Job’s Present State Is Humiliating
1“But nowH6258 thoseH6810 who are youngerH6810H3117 thanH4480 I 1mockH7832 me, WhoseH834 fathersH1 I refusedH3988 to putH7896 with the dogsH3611 of my flockH6629.2IndeedH1571, whatH4100 good was the strengthH3581 of their handsH3027 to me? VigorH3624 had perishedH6 from them.3From povertyH2639 and famineH3720 they are gauntH1565, They who gnawH6207 at the dryH6723 ground by nightH570 in wasteH7724 and desolationH4875,4Who pluckH6998 saltweedH4408 by the bushesH7880, And whose foodH3899 is the rootH8328 of the broomH7574 shrubH7574.5They are drivenH1644 from the communityH1460; They shoutH7321 againstH5921 them as against a thiefH1590,6So that they liveH7931 on the slopesH6178 of ravinesH5158, In holesH2356 in the groundH6083 and among the rocksH3710.7AmongH996 the bushesH7880 they 2cryH5101 out; UnderH8478 the weedsH2738 they are gatheredH5596 togetherH5596.8WorthlessH5036 3fellowsH1121, evenH1571 4thoseH1121 withoutH1097 a nameH8034, They were castH5217 outH5217 from the landH776.
9“And nowH6258 I have becomeH1961 their 56tauntH5058, And I have becomeH1961 a 78bywordH4405 to them.10They loatheH8581 me and standH7368 aloofH7368 from me, And they do not 9refrainH2820 from 10spittingH7536 in my faceH6440.11BecauseH3588 He has undoneH6605 11my 12bowstringH3499 and 13afflictedH6031 me, They have castH7971 offH7971 14the bridleH7448 beforeH4480H6440 me.12On the rightH3225 handH3225 their 15mobH6526 arisesH6965; They 16pushH7971 aside my feetH7272 17and pileH5549 upH5549 their waysH734 of destructionH343 againstH5921 me.13They 18breakH5420 upH5420 my pathH5410, They promoteH3276 my destructionH1942; NoH3808 one restrainsH6113 them.14As through a wideH7342 gapH6556 they comeH857, 19AmidH8478 the stormH7724 they rollH1556 onH1556.1520SuddenH1091 terrorsH1091 are turnedH2015 uponH5921 me; They chaseH7291 away my dignityH5082 like the windH7307, And my 21prosperityH3444 has passedH5674 awayH5674 22like a cloudH5645.
16“And nowH6258 23my soulH5315 is pouredH8210 outH8210 24withinH5921 me; DaysH3117 of miseryH6040 have seizedH270 me.17At nightH3915 it piercesH5365 25my bonesH6106 26withinH4480H5921 me, And my gnawingH6207 pains do not restH7901.18By a greatH7230 forceH3581 my garmentH3830 is 27distortedH2664; It tiesH247 me upH247 like the collarH6310 of my coatH3801.19He has thrownH3384 me into the 28mireH2563, And I have becomeH4911 likeH4911 dustH6083 and ashesH665.20I 29cryH7768 outH7768 to You forH7768 helpH7768, but You do not answerH6030 me; I standH5975 up, and You turnH995 Your attentionH995 against me.21You have 30becomeH2015 cruelH393 to me; With the strengthH6108 of Your handH3027 You 31persecuteH7852 me.22You 32liftH5375 me upH5375 to the windH7307 and make me rideH7392 it; And You dissolveH4127 me in a stormH8663.23For I knowH3045 that You 33will bringH7725 me to deathH4194, And to the 34houseH1004 of meetingH4150 for allH3605 livingH2416.
24“YetH389 does one in a heapH5856 ofH5856 ruinsH5856 not reachH7971 outH7971 with his handH3027, OrH518 in his disasterH6365 does he not 35cryH7769 outH7769 forH7769 helpH7769?25Have I not 36weptH1058 for the 37one whose lifeH3117 is hardH7186? Was my soulH5315 not grievedH5701 for 38the needyH34?26WhenH3588 I 39expectedH6960 goodH2896, evilH7451 cameH935; When I waitedH3176 for lightH216, 40darknessH652 cameH935.2741I am seethingH7570 42withinH4578 and cannotH3808 restH1826; DaysH3117 of miseryH6040 confrontH6923 me.28I goH1980 aboutH1980 4344mourningH6937 withoutH3808 comfort; I standH6965 upH6965 in the assemblyH6951 and 45cryH7768 outH7768 forH7768 helpH7768.29I have becomeH1961 a brotherH251 to 46jackalsH8565, And a companionH7453 of ostrichesH1323H3284.30My 47skinH5785 turnsH7835 blackH7835 48on me, And my 49bonesH6106 burnH2787 with 50feverH2721.31Therefore my 51harpH3658 52is turnedH1961 to mourningH60, And my fluteH5748 to the soundH6963 of those who weepH1058.
