Job Despairs of God’s Dealings

1“12I am disgustedH6962 with my own lifeH2425; I will expressH5800 3my complaintH7879 freelyH5800; I will speakH1696 in the bitternessH4751 of my soulH5315.2I will sayH559 to GodH433, ‘4Do not condemnH7561 me; Let me knowH3045 whyH5921H4100 You contendH7378 with me.3Is it 5rightH2896 for You indeedH3588 to 6oppressH6231, To rejectH3988 7the workH3018 of Your handsH3709, And 8to lookH3313 favorablyH3313 on 9the planH6098 of the wickedH7563?4Do You have eyesH5869 of fleshH1320? OrH518 do You 10seeH7200 as mankindH582 seesH7200?5Are Your daysH3117 like the daysH3117 of a mortalH582, OrH518 11Your yearsH8141 like a man’sH1397 yearH3117,6That 12You should searchH1245 for my guiltH5771 And carefullyH1875 seekH1875 my sinH2403?7AccordingH5921 to Your knowledgeH1847 13I amH7561 indeedH3588 not guiltyH7561, Yet thereH369 isH369 14noH369 oneH5337 to saveH5337 me from Your handH3027.

8‘15Your handsH3027 fashionedH6087 and madeH6213 me 16altogetherH3162H5439, 17Yet would You destroyH1104 me?9RememberH2142 that You have madeH6213 me as 18clayH2563; Yet would You 19turnH7725 me into dustH6083 againH7725?10Did You not pourH5413 me outH5413 like milkH2461, And curdleH7087 me like cheeseH1385,11ClotheH3847 me with skinH5785 and fleshH1320, And intertwineH5526 me with bonesH6106 and tendonsH1517?12You have 20grantedH6213 me lifeH2425 and 21goodnessH2617; And Your careH6486 has guardedH8104 my spiritH7307.13Yet You have concealedH6845 22theseH428 thingsH428 in Your heartH3824; I knowH3045 that thisH2088 is withinH5973 You:14IfH518 I have sinnedH2398, You will 23takeH8104 noteH8104 of me, And 24will not acquitH5352 me of my guiltH5771.15IfH518 25I amH7561 wickedH7561, woeH480 to me! But if 26I amH6663 righteousH6663, I dare not liftH5375 upH5375 my headH7218. I am fullH7649 of shameH7036, and 27consciousH7202 of my miseryH6040.16And should my head be highH1342, 28You would huntH6679 me like a lionH7826; And You would showH6381 Your 29powerH6381 against me againH7725.17You renewH2318 30Your witnessesH5707 againstH5048 me And increaseH7235 Your angerH3708 towardH5973 me; 3132HardshipH2487 after hardshipH6635 is with me.

18‘33WhyH4100 then did You bringH3318 me outH3318 of the wombH7358? If only I had diedH1478 and noH3808 eyeH5869 had seenH7200 me!19I should have beenH1961 as thoughH3512 I had not beenH1961, BroughtH2986 from wombH990 to tombH6913.’20Would He not leaveH2308 34my fewH4592 daysH3117 aloneH2308? 3536WithdrawH7896 from me so that I may haveH1082 a littleH4592 cheerfulnessH108221BeforeH2962 I goH1980--37and I shall not returnH7725-- 38To the landH776 of darknessH2822 and 39deepH6757 shadowH6757,22The landH776 of utterH5890 gloomH5890 likeH3644 darknessH652 itself, Of deepH6757 shadowH6757 withoutH3808 orderH5468, And it shinesH3313 likeH3644 darknessH652.”
