Jeremiah 48:14-47
14HowH349 can you sayH559, ‘We are 1warriorsH1368, And menH376 competentH2428 for battleH4421’?15MoabH4124 has been destroyedH7703 and 2men have goneH5927 upH5927 to 3his citiesH5892; His choicestH4005 45youngH970 menH970 have also goneH3381 downH3381 to the slaughterH2874,” DeclaresH5002 the 6KingH4428, whose nameH8034 is the LordH3068 of armiesH6635.16“The disasterH343 of MoabH4124 will 7soonH7138 comeH935, And his catastropheH7463 has hurriedH3966 quicklyH4116.17MournH5110 for him, allH3605 you who live aroundH5439 him, And allH3605 of you who knowH3045 his nameH8034; SayH559, ‘HowH351 the mightyH5797 89scepterH4294 has been brokenH7665, A staffH4731 of splendorH8597!’1810ComeH3381 downH3381 from your gloryH3519 And sitH3427 on the parchedH6772 groundH6772, O 11daughterH1323 livingH3427 in 12DibonH1769, For the destroyerH7703 of MoabH4124 has comeH5927 upH5927 against you, He has ruinedH7843 your strongholdsH4013.19StandH5975 by the roadH1870 and keepH6822 watchH6822, You inhabitantH3427 of 13AroerH6177; 14AskH7592 him who fleesH5127 and her who escapesH4422 And sayH559, ‘WhatH4100 has happenedH1961?’20MoabH4124 has been putH954 toH954 shameH954, for it has beenH2865 15shatteredH2865. WailH3213 and cryH2199 outH2199; DeclareH5046 by the 16ArnonH769 That MoabH4124 has been destroyedH7703.
21“JudgmentH4941 has also comeH935 upon the plainH776H4334, upon HolonH2473, 17JahzahH3096, and againstH5921 18MephaathH4158, 22againstH5921 DibonH1769, NeboH5015, and Beth-diblathaimH1015, 23againstH5921 KiriathaimH7156, Beth-gamulH1014, and 19Beth-meonH1010, 24againstH5921 20KeriothH7152, BozrahH1224, and allH3605 the citiesH5892 of the landH776 of MoabH4124, farH7350 and nearH7138. 25The 21hornH7161 of MoabH4124 has been cutH1438 offH1438, and his 22armH2220 brokenH7665,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068. 26“23MakeH7937 him drunkH7937, for he has 24becomeH1431 25arrogantH1431 towardH5921 the LordH3068; so MoabH4124 will 26vomitH5606, and he alsoH1571 will becomeH1961 a laughingstockH7814. 27Now was IsraelH3478 not a 27laughingstockH7814 to you? OrH518 was he 2829caughtH4672 among thievesH1590? For wheneverH4480H1767 you speakH1697 about him you 30shakeH5110 your head in scorn.28LeaveH5800 the citiesH5892 and liveH7931 among the 31rockyH5553 cliffsH5553, You inhabitantsH3427 of MoabH4124, And be like a 32doveH3123 that nestsH7077 BeyondH5676 the mouthH6310 of the chasmH6354.2933We have heardH8085 of the prideH1347 of MoabH4124--he is veryH3966 proudH1343-- Of his haughtinessH7312, his 34prideH1347, his arroganceH1346, and 35his self-exaltationH3820H7312.30I knowH3045 his 36furyH5678,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “But it is futileH3808H3653; His idleH907 boastsH907 have accomplishedH6213 nothingH3808.31ThereforeH5921H3651 I will 37wailH3213 for MoabH4124, For allH3605 of MoabH4124 I will cryH2199 outH2199; 38I will moanH1897 for the menH376 of 39Kir-heresH7025.32MoreH4480 thanH4480 the 40weepingH1065 for 41JazerH3270 I will weepH1058 for you, O vineH1612 of SibmahH7643! Your tendrilsH5189 stretchedH5674 acrossH5674 the seaH3220, They reachedH5060 to the seaH3220 of JazerH3270; Upon your summerH7019 fruitsH7019 and your grapeH1210 harvestH1210 The destroyerH7703 has fallenH5307.33So 42joyH8057 and rejoicingH1524 are removedH622 From the fruitfulH3759 fieldH3759, and from the landH776 of MoabH4124. And I have 43eliminatedH7673 the wineH3196 from the wineH3342 pressesH3342; NoH3808 one will treadH1869 them with shoutingH1959, The shoutingH1959 will not be shoutsH1959 of joy. 3444From the outcryH2201 at HeshbonH2809 to 45ElealehH500, to JahazH3096 they have 46raisedH5414 their voiceH6963, from 47ZoarH6820 to HoronaimH2773, and to Eglath-shelishiyahH5700H7992; for evenH1571 the watersH4325 of NimrimH5249 will becomeH1961 desolateH4923. 35And I will putH7673 anH7673 endH7673 to MoabH4124,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “the one who offersH5927 sacrifice on the 48highH1116 placeH1116 and the one who 4950burnsH6999 incenseH6999 to his godsH430.
36“ThereforeH5921H3651 My 51heartH3820 makesH1993 aH1993 soundH1993 like flutesH2485 for MoabH4124; My heartH3820 also makesH1993 aH1993 soundH1993 like flutesH2485 for the menH376 of Kir-heresH7025. ThereforeH5921H3651 they have 52lostH6 the abundanceH3502 it producedH6213. 37For 53everyH3605 headH7218 is shaved baldH7144, and everyH3605 beardH2206 cutH1639 shortH1639; there are gashesH1417 on allH3605 the handsH3027, and 54sackclothH8242 aroundH5921 the waistsH4975. 38On allH3605 the 55housetopsH1406 of MoabH4124 and in its publicH7339 squaresH7339 56there is mourningH4553 everywhereH3605; for I have brokenH7665 MoabH4124 like an undesirableH369H2656 57vesselH3627,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068. 39“HowH349 58shatteredH2865 it is! How they have wailedH3213! HowH349 MoabH4124 has turnedH6437 his backH6203--he isH954 ashamedH954! So MoabH4124 will becomeH1961 a laughingstockH7814 and an 59objectH4288 ofH4288 terrorH4288 to allH3605 aroundH5439 him.”
40For thisH3541 isH3541 whatH3541 the LordH3068 saysH559: “BeholdH2009, one will 60flyH1675 swiftlyH1675 like an eagleH5404 And 61spreadH6566 outH6566 his wingsH3671 againstH413 MoabH4124.41KeriothH7152 has been capturedH3920 And the strongholdsH4679 have been seizedH8610, So the 62heartsH3820 of the warriorsH1368 of MoabH4124 on that dayH3117 Will be like the heartH3820 of a 63womanH802 in laborH6887.42MoabH4124 will be 64destroyedH8045 from being a peopleH5971 BecauseH3588 he has 65becomeH1431 66arrogantH1431 towardH5921 the LordH3068.4367TerrorH6343, pitH6354, and snareH6341 are coming upon you, InhabitantH3427 of MoabH4124,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.44“The one who 68fleesH5127 from the terrorH6343 Will fallH5307 into the pitH6354, And the one who climbsH5927 upH5927 out of the pitH6354 Will be caughtH3920 in the snareH6341; For I will bringH935 upon her, upon MoabH4124, The yearH8141 of their 69punishmentH6486,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.
45“In the shadowH6738 of HeshbonH2809 The fugitivesH5127 standH5975 withoutH4480 strengthH3581; For a fireH784 has spreadH3318 outH3318 from HeshbonH2809 And a 70flameH3852 from the midstH996 of 71SihonH5511, And it has devouredH398 the 72foreheadH6285 of MoabH4124 And the scalpsH6936 of the 73loudH7588 revelersH1121.4674WoeH188 to you, MoabH4124! The peopleH5971 of 75ChemoshH3645 have perishedH6; For your sonsH1121 have been takenH3947 away captiveH7628, And your daughtersH1323 into captivityH7633.47Yet I will 76restoreH7725 the fortunesH7622 of MoabH4124 In the 77latterH319 daysH3117,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.
ThisH2008 is the extentH5704 of the judgmentH4941 on MoabH4124.
