Deuteronomy 2

Wanderings in the Wilderness

1“1Then we turnedH6437 and setH5265 outH5265 for the wildernessH4057 by the wayH1870 of the 2RedH5488 SeaH3220, as the LordH3068 spokeH1696 to me, and we circledH5437 3MountH2022 SeirH8165 for manyH7227 daysH3117. 2And the LordH3068 spokeH559 to me, sayingH559, 3‘You have circledH5437 thisH2088 mountainH2022 longH7227 enoughH7227. Now turnH6437 northH6828, 44and commandH6680 the peopleH5971, sayingH559, “You are going to passH5674 through the 5territoryH1366 of your brothersH251 the sonsH1121 of EsauH6215, who liveH3427 in SeirH8165; and 6they will beH3372 afraidH3372 of you. So beH8104 veryH3966 carefulH8104; 5do not 7provokeH1624 them, for I will not giveH5414 you anyH4480 of their landH776, not even asH5704 muchH5704 asH5704 a 8footprintH4096H3709H7272, 9becauseH3588 I have givenH5414 MountH2022 SeirH8165 to EsauH6215 as a possessionH3425. 6You are to buyH7666 foodH400 from them with moneyH3701 so that you may eatH398, and you shall alsoH1571 purchaseH3739 waterH4325 from them with moneyH3701 so that you may drinkH8354. 7For the LordH3068 your GodH430 has blessedH1288 you in allH3605 10that you have doneH3027; He has knownH3045 your 11wanderingH1980 through thisH2088 12greatH1419 wildernessH4057. TheseH2088 13fortyH705 yearsH8141 the LordH3068 your GodH430 has been with you; you have not lackedH2637 anythingH1697.”’

8“So we passedH5674 beyondH5674H4480 our brothersH251 the sonsH1121 of EsauH6215, who liveH3427 in SeirH8165, awayH4480 from the 14ArabahH6160 roadH1870, awayH4480 from ElathH365 and 15Ezion-geberH6100. And we turnedH6437 and passedH5674 throughH5674 by the wayH1870 of the wildernessH4057 of MoabH4124. 9Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to me, ‘Do not attackH6696 MoabH4124, norH408 provokeH1624 them to warH4421, for I will not giveH5414 you anyH4480 of 16their landH776 as a possessionH3425, becauseH3588 I have givenH5414 17ArH6144 to 18the sonsH1121 of LotH3876 as a possessionH3425.’ 10(The 19EmimH368 livedH3427 there previouslyH6440, a peopleH5971 as greatH1419, numerousH7227, and tallH7311 as the AnakimH6062. 11Like the AnakimH6062, they tooH637 are regardedH2803 as 20RephaimH7497, but the MoabitesH4125 callH7121 them EmimH368. 1221The HoritesH2752 previouslyH6440 livedH3427 in SeirH8165, but the sonsH1121 of EsauH6215 dispossessedH3423 them and destroyedH8045 them from beforeH6440 22them, and settledH3427 inH8478 their placeH8478; 23justH3512 asH3512 IsraelH3478 didH6213 to the landH776 of 24their possessionH3425 whichH834 the LordH3068 gaveH5414 them.) 13‘NowH6258 ariseH6965 and crossH5674 overH5674 the 25WadiH5158 ZeredH2218 yourselves.’ So we crossedH5674 overH5674 the 26WadiH5158 ZeredH2218. 14Now the 27timeH3117 that it tookH1980 for us to comeH1980 from Kadesh-barneaH6947 untilH5704H834 we crossedH5674 overH5674 the 28WadiH5158 ZeredH2218 was 29thirty-eightH7970H8083 yearsH8141, untilH5704 30allH3605 the generationH1755 of the menH376 of warH4421 perishedH8552 from withinH7130 the campH4264, justH3512 asH3512 31the LordH3068 had swornH7650 to them. 1532IndeedH1571, the handH3027 of the LordH3068 was against them, to destroyH2000 them from withinH7130 the campH4264 untilH5704 they allH8552 perishedH8552.

16“So it cameH1961 aboutH1961, whenH3512 33allH3605 the menH376 of warH4421 had finallyH8552 perishedH8552H4191 from amongH7130 the peopleH5971, 17that the LordH3068 spokeH1696 to me, sayingH559, 18‘TodayH3117 you shall crossH5674 overH5674 34ArH6144, the borderH1366 of MoabH4124. 19When you comeH7126 oppositeH4136 the 35sonsH1121 of AmmonH5983, do not attackH6696 them norH408 provokeH1624 them, for I will not giveH5414 you anyH4480 of the landH776 of the sonsH1121 of AmmonH5983 as a possessionH3425, becauseH3588 I have givenH5414 it to 36the sonsH1121 of LotH3876 as a possessionH3425.’ 20(It is alsoH637 regardedH2803 as the landH776 of the 37RephaimH7497, because the RephaimH7497 previouslyH6440 livedH3427 in it, but the AmmonitesH5984 callH7121 them ZamzumminH2157, 21a peopleH5971 as greatH1419, numerousH7227, and tallH7311 as the AnakimH6062; but the LordH3068 destroyedH8045 them beforeH6440 38them. And they dispossessedH3423 them and settledH3427 inH8478 their placeH8478, 22justH3512 asH3512 He didH6213 for the sonsH1121 of EsauH6215, who 39liveH3427 in SeirH8165, whenH834 He destroyedH8045 40the HoritesH2752 from beforeH6440 them; they dispossessedH3423 them and settledH3427 inH8478 their placeH8478, where they remain evenH5704 to thisH2088 dayH3117. 23And as for the 41AvvimH5761, who livedH3427 in villagesH2691 as farH5704 as GazaH5804, the 4243CaphtorimH3732, who cameH3318 from 4445CaphtorH3731, destroyedH8045 them and livedH3427 inH8478 their placeH8478.) 24‘AriseH6965, setH5265 outH5265, and passH5674 throughH5674 the 4647ValleyH5158 of ArnonH769. LookH7200! I have handedH5414H3027 overH5414 to you SihonH5511 the AmoriteH567, kingH4428 of HeshbonH2809, and his landH776; startH2490 takingH3423 possessionH3423 and plungeH1624 intoH1624 battleH4421 with him. 25ThisH2088 dayH3117 I will beginH2490 to putH5414 48the dreadH6343 and fearH3374 of you upon the facesH6440 of 49peopleH5971 everywhereH3605, 50whoH834, when they hearH8085 the newsH8088 of you, 51will trembleH7264 and beH2342 inH2342 anguishH2342 becauseH4480H6440 of you.’

26“52So I sentH7971 messengersH4397 from the wildernessH4057 of KedemothH6932 to SihonH5511 kingH4428 of HeshbonH2809 with wordsH1697 of peaceH7965, sayingH559, 27‘Let me passH5674 through your landH776; I will 53travelH1980 only on the roadH1870. I will not turnH5493 asideH5493 to the rightH3225 or to the leftH8040. 28You will sellH7666 me foodH400 for moneyH3701 so that I may eatH398, and giveH5414 me waterH4325 for moneyH3701 so that I may drinkH8354, 54onlyH7534 let me passH5674 throughH5674 on 55footH7272, 29justH3512 asH3512 the sonsH1121 of EsauH6215 who liveH3427 in SeirH8165 and the MoabitesH4125 who liveH3427 in 56ArH6144 didH6213 for me, untilH5704H834 I crossH5674 overH5674 the JordanH3383 into the landH776 that the LordH3068 our GodH430 is givingH5414 us.’ 30But 57SihonH5511 kingH4428 of HeshbonH2809 wasH14 not willingH14 for us to passH5674 58through his land; for the 59LordH3068 your GodH430 hardenedH7185 his spiritH7307 and madeH553 his heartH3824 obstinateH553, inH4616 orderH4616 toH4616 handH3027H5414 him overH5414 to you, as he is todayH2088H3117. 31And the LordH3068 saidH559 to me, ‘SeeH7200, I have begunH2490 to turnH5414 SihonH5511 and his landH776 overH5414 60to you. BeginH2490 takingH3423 possessionH3423, so that you may possessH3423 his landH776.’

32“Then SihonH5511 cameH3318 outH3318 61with allH3605 his peopleH5971 to meetH7122 us in battleH4421 at JahazH3096. 33And 62the LordH3068 our GodH430 turnedH5414 him overH5414 63to us, and we 6465defeatedH5221 him with his sonsH1121 and allH3605 his peopleH5971. 34So we capturedH3920 allH3605 his citiesH5892 at that timeH6256 and 6667utterlyH2763 destroyedH2763 68the menH4962, womenH802, and childrenH2945 of everyH3605 cityH5892. We leftH7604 noH3808 survivorH8300. 35We tookH962 69onlyH7534 the animalsH929 as our plunderH962, and the spoilsH7998 of the citiesH5892 whichH834 we had capturedH3920. 36From 70AroerH6177 whichH834 is on the edgeH8193 of the 71ValleyH5158 of ArnonH769 and from the cityH5892 whichH834 is in the 72valleyH5158, even to GileadH1568, there was noH3808 cityH7151 that wasH7682 tooH4480 73highH7682 for us; the LordH3068 our GodH430 turnedH5414 it allH3605 overH5414 74to us. 3775OnlyH7534 you did not goH7126 nearH7126 the landH776 of the sonsH1121 of AmmonH5983, allH3605 alongH3027 the 76riverH5158 77JabbokH2999 and the citiesH5892 of the hillH2022 countryH2022, and whereverH3605H834 the LordH3068 our GodH430 had commandedH6680 us to avoid.
