Reject Idolatry
1“12IfH3588 a prophetH5030 orH176 a dreamerH2492 of dreamsH2472 arisesH6965 amongH7130 you and givesH5414 you a signH226 orH176 a wonderH4159, 2and the signH226 or the wonderH4159 comesH935 true, of whichH834 he spokeH1696 to you, sayingH559, ‘3Let’s followH1980H310 otherH312 godsH430 (whomH834 you have not knownH3045) and let’s serveH5647 them,’ 3you shall not listenH8085 to the wordsH1697 of that prophetH5030 orH176 dreamerH2492 of dreamsH2472; for the LordH3068 your GodH430 is 4testingH5254 you to findH3045 outH3045 whether 5you loveH157 the LordH3068 your GodH430 with allH3605 your heartH3824 and with allH3605 your soulH5315. 46You shall followH310H1980 the LordH3068 your GodH430 and fearH3372 Him; and you shall keepH8104 His commandmentsH4687, listenH8085 to His voiceH6963, serveH5647 Him, and 7clingH1692 to Him. 5But that prophetH5030 orH176 that dreamerH2492 of dreamsH2472 shall be 8putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191, becauseH3588 he has spokenH1696 falselyH5627 againstH5921 the LordH3068 your GodH430 who broughtH3318 you outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 and redeemedH6299 you from the houseH1004 of 9slaveryH5650, 10to driveH5080 you from the wayH1870 in whichH834 the LordH3068 your GodH430 commandedH6680 you to walkH1980. 11So you shall eliminateH1197 the evilH7451 from amongH7130 you.
6“12IfH3588 your brotherH251, your mother’sH517 sonH1121, orH176 your sonH1121 orH176 daughterH1323, orH176 the wifeH802 13you cherishH2436, orH176 your friendH7453 whoH834 is like your own soulH5315, enticesH5496 you secretlyH5643, sayingH559, ‘14Let’s goH1980 and serveH5647 otherH312 godsH430’ (whomH834 neitherH3808 you norH3808 your fathersH1 have knownH3045, 7of the godsH430 of the peoplesH5971 whoH834 are aroundH5439 you, nearH7138 you, orH176 farH7350 from you, from one endH7097 of the earthH776 to the other endH7097), 815you shall not consentH14 to him or listenH8085 to him; 16and your eyeH5869 shall not pityH2347 him, norH3808 shall you spareH2550 or concealH3680 him. 917InsteadH3588, you shall mostH2026 certainlyH2026 killH2026 him; 18your handH3027 shall be firstH7223 against him to putH4191 him toH4191 deathH4191, and afterwardH314 the handH3027 of allH3605 the peopleH5971. 10So you shall stoneH5619H68 him 19to deathH4191, becauseH3588 he has attemptedH1245 20to driveH5080 you awayH5080 from the LordH3068 your GodH430 who broughtH3318 you outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, out of the houseH1004 of 21slaveryH5650. 11Then 22allH3605 IsraelH3478 will hearH8085 about it and beH3372 afraidH3372, and will not doH6213 suchH2088 a wickedH7451 thingH1697 amongH7130 you againH3254.
12“IfH3588 you hearH8085 in oneH259 of your citiesH5892, whichH834 the LordH3068 your GodH430 is givingH5414 you to liveH3427 in, anyone sayingH559 that 13some worthlessH1121H1100 menH376 have goneH3318 outH3318 from amongH7130 you and have seducedH5080 the inhabitantsH3427 of their cityH5892, sayingH559, ‘23Let’s goH1980 and serveH5647 otherH312 godsH430’ (whomH834 you have not knownH3045), 14then you shall investigateH1875, searchH2713 outH2713, and inquireH7592 thoroughlyH3190. And ifH2009 it is trueH571 and the matterH1697 is certainH3559 that thisH2088 abominationH8441 has been committedH6213 amongH7130 you, 1524you shall mostH5221 certainlyH5221 strikeH5221 the inhabitantsH3427 of that cityH5892 with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719. 25UtterlyH2763 destroyH2763 it and allH3605 who are in it and its cattleH929, with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719. 1626Then you shall gatherH6908 allH3605 its plunderH7998 into the middleH8432 of its publicH7339 squareH7339, and burnH8313 the cityH5892 and allH3605 its plunderH7998 with fireH784 as a wholeH3632 burntH3632 offeringH3632 to the LordH3068 your GodH430; and it shall be a 2728ruinH8510 foreverH5769. It shall neverH3808 be rebuiltH1129. 17NothingH3808H3972 atH3972 allH3972 from whatH2764 isH2764 designatedH2764 forH2764 destructionH2764 is to clingH1692 to your handH3027, inH4616 orderH4616 thatH4616 the LordH3068 may turnH7725 from 29His burningH2740 angerH639 and 30showH5414 mercyH7356 to you, and haveH7355 compassionH7355 onH7355 you and 31make you increaseH7235, justH3512 32asH3512 He has swornH7650 to your fathersH1, 1833ifH3588 you will listenH8085 to the voiceH6963 of the LordH3068 your GodH430, 34keepingH8104 allH3605 His commandmentsH4687 whichH834 I am commandingH6680 you todayH3117, 35and doingH6213 whatH3477 isH3477 rightH3477 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068 your GodH430.
