16NowδὲdeG1161the soldiersστρατιῶταιstratiōtaiG4757tookG520Him awayἀπήγαγονapēgagonG520into thepalaceαὐλῆς,aulēsG833(that is, the Praetoriumπραιτώριον,praitōrionG4232),and they calledG4779togetherσυγκαλοῦσινsugkalousinG4779the wholeὅληνholēnG3650RomancohortσπεῖρανspeiranG4686.

17And they dressedἐνδιδύσκουσινendiduskousinG1737Him inpurpleπορφύρανporphuranG4209,and after twistingG4120togetherπλέξαντεςplexantesG4120a crownστέφανονstephanonG4735of thornsἀκάνθινονakanthinonG174,they putπεριτιθέασινperititheasinG4060it on Him;

18and they beganἤρξαντοērxantoG757salutingἀσπάζεσθαιaspazesthaiG782Him: “HailχαῖρεchaireG5463,KingβασιλεῦbasileuG935of the JewsἸουδαίων.IoudaiōnG2453!”

19And they repeatedlybeatἔτυπτονetuptonG5180His headκεφαλὴνkephalēnG2776with areedκαλάμῳkalamōG2563and spitG1716onG1716Him, and kneelingτιθέντες γόναταtithentes gonataG1119 G5087,they bowedG4352downπροσεκύνουνprosekunounG4352beforeG4352Him.

20And afterὅτεhoteG3753they had mockedἐνέπαιξανenepaixanG1702Him, they tookG1562thepurpleπορφύρανporphuranG4209cloakoffG1562Him and putἐνέδυσανenedusanG1746His owngarmentsἱμάτιαhimatiaG2440on Him. And they ledG1806Him outG1806to crucifyσταυρώσωσινstaurōsōsinG4717Him.
