12And Calebכָּלֵ֔בka.LevH3612saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whoeverאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834attacksיַכֶּ֥הya.KehH5221Kiriath-sepherH7158and capturesוּלְכָדָ֑הּu.le.kha.DahH3920it, I will giveוְנָתַ֥תִּיve.na.Ta.tiH5414him my daughterבִתִּ֖יvi.TiH1323Achsahעַכְסָ֥ה'akh.SahH5915as a wifeלְאִשָּֽׁה׃le.'i.ShahH802.”

13NowOthnielעָתְנִיאֵ֣ל'a.te.ni.'ElH6274the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Kenazקְנַ֔זke.NazH7073,Caleb’sכָלֵ֖בkha.LevH3612youngerהַקָּטֹ֣ן מִמֶּ֑נּוּha.ka.Ton mi.Me.nuH6996 H4480brotherאֲחִ֥י'a.ChiH251,capturedוַֽיִּלְכְּדָהּ֙vai.yil.ke.DahH3920it; so he gaveוַיִּתֶּן־vai.yi.ten-H5414him his daughterבִתּ֖וֹvi.ToH1323Achsahעַכְסָ֥ה'akh.SahH5915as a wifeלְאִשָּֽׁה׃le.'i.ShahH802.

14Thenit happenedוַיְהִ֣יvay.HiH1961that when she cameבְּבוֹאָ֗הּbe.vo.'AhH935to him,she incitedוַתְּסִיתֵ֙הוּ֙va.te.si.Te.huH5496him to askלִשְׁא֤וֹלlish.'olH7592her fatherאָבִ֙יהָ֙'a.Vi.haH1for a fieldהַשָּׂדֶ֔הha.sa.DehH7704. Then later,she dismountedוַתִּצְנַ֖חva.titz.NachH6795fromher donkeyהַחֲמ֑וֹרha.cha.MorH2543,and Calebכָּלֵ֖בka.LevH3612saidוַיֹּֽאמֶר־vai.yo.mer-H559to her, “Whatמַה־mah-H4100do you want?”

15She saidוַתֹּ֨אמֶרva.To.merH559to him, “Giveהָֽבָה־ha.vah-H3051me a blessingבְרָכָ֗הve.ra.KhahH1293:sinceכִּ֣יkiH3588you have givenנְתַתָּ֔נִיne.ta.Ta.niH5414me the landאֶ֤רֶץ'E.retzH776of theNegevהַנֶּ֙גֶב֙ha.Ne.gevH5045,giveוְנָתַתָּ֥הve.na.ta.TahH5414me springsגֻּלֹּ֣תgu.LotH1543of waterמָ֑יִםMa.yimH4325also.” So Calebכָּלֵ֗בka.LevH3612gaveוַיִּתֶּן־vai.yi.ten-H5414her the upperעִלִּ֔ית'i.LitH5942springsגֻּלֹּ֣תgu.LotH1543and the lowerתַּחְתִּֽית׃ פtach.TitH8482springsגֻּלֹּ֥תgu.LotH1543.

16Now thedescendantsוּבְנֵ֣יu.ve.NeiH1121ofthe Keniteקֵינִי֩kei.NiH7017,Moses’מֹשֶׁ֜הmo.ShehH4872father-in-lawH2860,wentH5927upH5927from thecityH5892of palmsH8558with the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063,to the wildernessמִדְבַּ֣רmid.BarH4057of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063whichאֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834is in the southבְּנֶ֣גֶבbe.Ne.gevH5045ofAradעֲרָ֑ד'a.RadH6166;and they wentוַיֵּ֖לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980and livedוַיֵּ֥שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427with the peopleהָעָֽם׃ha.'AmH5971.

17Then Judahיְהוּדָה֙ye.hu.DahH3063wentוַיֵּ֤לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980with his brotherאָחִ֔יו'a.ChivH251Simeonשִׁמְע֣וֹןshim.'onH8095,and they struckוַיַּכּ֕וּvai.ya.KuH5221the Canaanitesהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֖יha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669livingיוֹשֵׁ֣בyo.ShevH3427in Zephathצְפַ֑תtze.FatH6857,and utterlyH2763destroyedוַיַּחֲרִ֣ימוּvai.ya.cha.Ri.muH2763it. So the nameשֵׁם־shem-H8034of the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892was calledוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121Hormahחָרְמָֽה׃cha.re.MahH2767.

18And Judahיְהוּדָה֙ye.hu.DahH3063tookוַיִּלְכֹּ֤דvai.yil.KodH3920Gazaעַזָּ֣ה'a.ZahH5804with its territoryגְּבוּלָ֔הּge.vu.LahH1366,Ashkelonאַשְׁקְל֖וֹן'ash.ke.LonH831with its territoryגְּבוּלָ֑הּge.vu.LahH1366,and Ekronעֶקְר֖וֹןek.RonH6138with its territoryגְּבוּלָֽהּ׃ge.vu.LahH1366.

19Now the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068was with Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063,and they tookH3423possessionH3423of the hillהָהָ֑רha.HarH2022countryH2022; but they could notdriveH3423outH3423the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֣יyo.she.VeiH3427of the valleyהָעֵ֔מֶקha.'E.mekH6010,becauseH3588they hadironבַּרְזֶ֖לbar.ZelH1270chariotsרֶ֥כֶבRe.khevH7393.

20Then they gaveוַיִּתְּנ֤וּvai.yi.te.NuH5414Hebronחֶבְר֔וֹןchev.RonH2275to Calebלְכָלֵב֙le.kha.LevH3612,as Mosesמֹשֶׁ֑הmo.ShehH4872hadpromisedדִּבֶּ֣רdi.BerH1696;and he droveH3423outH3423from thereמִשָּׁ֔םmi.ShamH8033the threeשְׁלֹשָׁ֖הshe.lo.ShahH7969sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Anakהָעֲנָֽק׃ha.'a.NakH6061.

21But the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Benjaminבִנְיָמִ֑ןvin.ya.MinH1144did not driveH3423outH3423theJebusitesהַיְבוּסִי֙hay.vu.SiH2983who livedיֹשֵׁ֣בyo.ShevH3427in Jerusalemיְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֔םye.ru.sha.LimH3389;so the Jebusitesהַיְבוּסִ֜יhay.vu.SiH2983have livedוַיֵּ֨שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427with the sonsבְּנֵ֤יbe.NeiH1121of Benjaminבִנְיָמִן֙vin.ya.MinH1144in Jerusalemבִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םbi.Ru.sha.LimH3389to thisהַזֶּֽה׃ סha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117.

22Likewiseגַּם־gam-H1571the houseבֵית־veit-H1004of Josephיוֹסֵ֛ףyo.SefH3130wentH5927upH5927against BethelH1008,and the Lordוַֽיהוָ֖הva.Yah.wehH3068was with them.

23The houseבֵית־veit-H1004of Josephיוֹסֵ֖ףyo.SefH3130had menspyוַיָּתִ֥ירוּvai.ya.Ti.ruH8446outH8446BethelH1008(the nameוְשֵׁם־ve.shem-H8034of the cityהָעִ֥ירha.'IrH5892previouslyלְפָנִ֖יםle.fa.NimH6440was Luzלֽוּז׃LuzH3870).

24And the spiesהַשֹּׁ֣מְרִ֔יםha.Sho.me.RimH8104sawוַיִּרְאוּ֙vai.yir.'UH7200a manאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376comingH3318outH3318of the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892,and they saidוַיֹּ֣אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559to him, “Pleaseנָא֙na'H4994showהַרְאֵ֤נוּhar.'E.nuH7200us the entranceמְב֣וֹאme.Vo'H3996to the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892, andwe will treatוְעָשִׂ֥ינוּve.'a.Si.nuH6213you kindlyחָֽסֶד׃Cha.sedH2617.”

25So he showedוַיַּרְאֵם֙vai.yar.'EmH7200them the entranceמְב֣וֹאme.Vo'H3996to the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892,and they struckוַיַּכּ֥וּvai.ya.KuH5221the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892with the edgeלְפִי־le.fi-H6310of the swordחָ֑רֶבCha.revH2719,but they letH7971the manהָאִ֥ישׁha.'IshH376and allכָּל־kol-H3605his familyמִשְׁפַּחְתּ֖וֹmish.pach.ToH4940goשִׁלֵּֽחוּ׃shi.Le.chuH7971freeH7971.

26Then the manהָאִ֔ישׁha.'IshH376wentוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to the landאֶ֖רֶץ'E.retzH776of the Hittitesהַחִתִּ֑יםha.chi.TimH2850and builtוַיִּ֣בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129a cityעִ֗יר'IrH5892,and namedוַיִּקְרָ֤א שְׁמָהּ֙vai.yik.Ra' she.MahH7121 H8034it Luzל֔וּזLuzH3870,whichה֣וּאhu'H1931is its nameשְׁמָ֔הּshe.MahH8034to thisהַזֶּֽה׃ פha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117.

27But Manassehמְנַשֶּׁ֗הme.na.ShehH4519did not takeH3423possessionהוֹרִ֣ישׁho.RishH3423of Beth-sheanH1052and its villagesבְּנוֹתֶיהָ֮be.no.tei.HaH1323,or Taanachתַּעְנַ֣ךְta'.NakhH8590and its villagesבְּנֹתֶיהָ֒be.no.tei.HaH1323,or the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֨יyo.shevH3427of Dorד֜וֹרDorH1756and its villagesבְּנוֹתֶ֗יהָbe.no.Tei.haH1323,or the inhabitantsיוֹשְׁבֵ֤יyo.she.VeiH3427of Ibleamיִבְלְעָם֙yiv.le.'AmH2991and its villagesבְּנֹתֶ֔יהָbe.no.Tei.haH1323,or the inhabitantsיוֹשְׁבֵ֥יyo.she.VeiH3427of Megiddoמְגִדּ֖וֹme.gi.DoH4023and its villagesבְּנוֹתֶ֑יהָbe.no.Tei.haH1323; sothe Canaanitesהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֔יha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669persistedוַיּ֙וֹאֶל֙vai.Yo.'elH2974in livingלָשֶׁ֖בֶתla.She.vetH3427in thisH2088landבָּאָ֥רֶץba.'A.retzH776.

28And it cameH1961aboutH1961,whenכִּֽי־ki-H3588Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478becameH2388strongחָזַ֣קcha.ZakH2388,that they putוַיָּ֥שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760the Canaanitesהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֖יha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669to forcedH4522laborלָמַ֑סla.MasH4522;but they did not driveH3423them outH3423completelyH3423.

29AndEphraimוְאֶפְרַ֙יִם֙ve.'ef.Ra.yimH669did not driveH3423outH3423the Canaanitesהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֖יha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669who were livingהַיּוֹשֵׁ֣בhai.yo.ShevH3427in Gezerבְּגָ֑זֶרbe.Ga.zerH1507;so the Canaanitesהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֛יha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669livedוַיֵּ֧שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427in Gezerבְּגָֽזֶר׃ פbe.Ga.zerH1507amongבְּקִרְבּ֖וֹbe.kir.BoH7130them.

30Zebulunזְבוּלֻ֗ןze.vu.LunH2074did not driveH3423outH3423the inhabitantsיוֹשְׁבֵ֣יyo.she.VeiH3427of Kitronקִטְר֔וֹןkit.RonH7003,or the inhabitantsיוֹשְׁבֵ֖יyo.she.VeiH3427ofNahalolנַהֲלֹ֑לna.ha.LolH5096;so the Canaanitesהַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669livedוַיֵּ֤שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427amongבְּקִרְבּ֔וֹbe.kir.BoH7130them and becameוַיִּֽהְי֖וּvai.yih.YuH1961subject to forcedH4522laborלָמַֽס׃ סla.MasH4522.

36The borderוּגְבוּל֙u.ge.VulH1366of the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֔יha.'e.mo.RiH567ran from theascentH4610ofH4610AkrabbimH4610,from Selaמֵהַסֶּ֖לַעme.ha.Se.la'H5554and upwardוָמָֽעְלָה׃ פva.Ma.'e.lahH4605.
