Jeremiah 51:11-64
111SharpenH1305 the arrowsH2671, fillH4390 the quiversH7982! The LordH3068 has arousedH5782 the spiritH7307 of the kingsH4428 of the MedesH4074, BecauseH3588 His purposeH4209 is againstH5921 BabylonH894 to destroyH7843 it; For it is the 2vengeanceH5360 of the LordH3068, vengeanceH5360 for His templeH1964.123LiftH5375 up a 4signalH5251 againstH413 the wallsH2346 of BabylonH894; PostH2388 a strongH2388 guardH4929, StationH6965 5sentriesH8104, PlaceH3559 men in ambushH693! For the LordH3068 has bothH1571 6purposedH2161 and performedH6213 WhatH834 He spokeH1696 concerningH413 the inhabitantsH3427 of BabylonH894.13O you who 7dwellH7931 by manyH7227 watersH4325, AbundantH7227 in 8treasuresH214, Your endH7093 has comeH935, The 9measureH520 of your 1011endH1215.14The 12LordH3068 of hostsH6635 has swornH7650 by HimselfH5315: “SurelyH3588H518 I will fillH4390 you with a 13populationH120 like 14locustsH3218, And they will cryH6031 out with 15shoutsH1959 of victory overH5921 you.”
15It is 16He who madeH6213 the earthH776 by His powerH3581, Who establishedH3559 the worldH8398 by His wisdomH2451, And by His understandingH8394 He 17stretchedH5186 out the heavensH8064.16When He uttersH5414 His 18voiceH6963, there is a tumultH1995 of watersH4325 in the heavensH8064, And He causes the 19cloudsH5387 to ascendH5927 from the endH7097 of the earthH776; He makesH6213 lightningH1300 for the rainH4306 And bringsH3318 forthH3318 the 20windH7307 from His storehousesH214.1721AllH3605 mankindH120 is stupidH1197, devoidH4480 of knowledgeH1847; EveryH3605 goldsmithH6884 is putH954 to shameH954 by his 22idolsH6459, For his moltenH5262 imagesH5262 are 23deceitfulH8267, And there is noH3808 breathH7307 in them.18They are 24worthlessH1892, a workH4639 of mockeryH8595; In the timeH6256 of their punishmentH6486 they will perishH6.19The 25portionH2506 of JacobH3290 is not like theseH428; For the 26MakerH3335 of allH3605 is He, And of the 27tribeH7626 of His inheritanceH5159; The 28LordH3068 of hostsH6635 is His nameH8034.20He says, “You are My 2930war-clubH4661, My weaponH3627 of warH4421; And with you I 31shatterH5310 nationsH1471, And with you I destroyH7843 kingdomsH4467.21With you I 32shatterH5310 the horseH5483 and his riderH7392, And with you I shatterH5310 the 33chariotH7393 and its riderH7392,22And with you I shatterH5310 34manH376 and womanH802, And with you I shatterH5310 oldH2205 manH376 and 35youthH5288, And with you I shatterH5310 youngH970 manH970 and virginH1330,23And with you I shatterH5310 the shepherdH7462 and his flockH5739, And with you I shatterH5310 the farmerH406 and his teamH6776, And with you I shatterH5310 governorsH6346 and prefectsH5461.
24“But I will repayH7999 BabylonH894 and allH3605 the inhabitantsH3427 of 36ChaldeaH3778 for 37allH3605 their evilH7463 that they have doneH6213 in ZionH6726 before your eyesH5869,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.25“BeholdH2009, 38I am againstH413 you, 39O destroyingH7843 mountainH2022, Who destroysH7843 the wholeH3605 earthH776,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “And I will stretchH5186 out My handH3027 againstH5921 you, And rollH1556 you downH1556 from the cragsH5553, And I will makeH5414 you a 40burntH8316 out mountainH2022.26They will not takeH3947 from you even a stoneH68 for a cornerH6438 NorH3808 a stoneH68 for foundationsH4144, But you will be 41desolateH8077 foreverH5769,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.
2742LiftH5375 up a 43signalH5251 in the landH776, BlowH8628 a trumpetH7782 among the nationsH1471! ConsecrateH6942 the nationsH1471 againstH5921 her, SummonH8085 againstH5921 her the 44kingdomsH4467 of 45AraratH780, MinniH4508 and 46AshkenazH813; AppointH6485 a marshalH2951 againstH5921 her, BringH5927 up the 47horsesH5483 like bristlyH5569 locustsH3218.28ConsecrateH6942 the nationsH1471 againstH5921 her, The kingsH4428 of the MedesH4074, 48Their governorsH6346 and allH3605 49their 50prefectsH5461, And everyH3605 landH776 of 51their dominionH4475.29So the 52landH776 quakesH7493 and writhesH2342, For the purposesH4284 of the LordH3068 againstH5921 BabylonH894 standH6965, To makeH7760 the landH776 of BabylonH894 53A 54desolationH8047 withoutH369 inhabitantsH3427.30The 55mightyH1368 menH1368 of BabylonH894 have ceasedH2308 fightingH3898, They stayH3427 in the strongholdsH4679; 56Their strengthH1369 is 57exhaustedH5405, They are becomingH1961 58like womenH802; Their dwellingH4908 placesH4908 are setH3341 on fireH3341, The 59barsH1280 of her gates are brokenH7665.31One 6061courierH7323 runsH7323 to meetH7122 62anotherH7323, And one 6364messengerH5046 to meetH7122 65anotherH5046, To tellH5046 the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 That his cityH5892 has been capturedH3920 from endH7097 to end;32The fordsH4569 also have been seizedH8610, And they have burnedH8313 the marshesH98 with fireH784, And the menH376 of warH4421 are terrifiedH926.
33For thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: “The daughterH1323 of BabylonH894 is like a 66threshingH1637 floorH1637 At the timeH6256 67it is stampedH1869 firmH1869; YetH5750 in a littleH4592 whileH4592 the timeH6256 of 68harvestH7105 will comeH935 for her.”
34“NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 has 69devouredH398 me and crushedH2000 me, He has setH3322 me downH3322 like an 70emptyH7386 vesselH3627; He has 71swallowedH1104 me like a monsterH8577, He has filledH4390 his stomachH3770 with my delicaciesH5730; He has washedH1740 me awayH1740.35May the 72violenceH2555 done to me and to my fleshH7607 be upon BabylonH894,” The 73inhabitantH3427 of ZionH6726 will sayH559; And, “May my bloodH1818 be upon the inhabitantsH3427 of ChaldeaH3778,” JerusalemH3389 will sayH559. 36ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, “BeholdH2009, I am going to 74pleadH7378 your caseH7379 And 75exactH5358 fullH5360 vengeanceH5360 for you; And 76I will dryH2717 up her 77seaH3220 And makeH3001 her fountainH4726 dryH3001.3778BabylonH894 will becomeH1961 a heapH1530 of ruins, a hauntH4583 of jackalsH8565, An 79objectH8047 of horrorH8047 and hissingH8322, withoutH369 inhabitantsH3427.38They will roarH7580 togetherH3164 like 80youngH3715 lionsH3715, They will growlH5286 like lions’H738 cubsH1484.39When they becomeH2552 heatedH2552 up, I will serveH7896 them their banquetH4960 And 81makeH7937 them drunkH7937, that they may becomeH5937 jubilantH5937 And may 82sleepH3462 a perpetualH5769 sleepH8142 And not wakeH3364 up,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.40“I will bringH3381 them downH3381 like 83lambsH3733 84to the slaughterH2873, Like ramsH352 togetherH5973 with maleH6260 goatsH6260.
41“HowH349 8586SheshakH8347 has been capturedH3920, And 87the praiseH8416 of the wholeH3605 earthH776 been seizedH8610! HowH349 BabylonH894 has becomeH1961 an objectH8047 of horrorH8047 among the nationsH1471!42The 8889seaH3220 has comeH5927 up overH5921 BabylonH894; She has been engulfedH3680 with its tumultuousH1995 wavesH1530.43Her citiesH5892 have becomeH1961 an 90objectH8047 of horrorH8047, A parchedH6723 landH776 and a desertH6160, A landH776 in whichH2004 91noH3808H3605 manH376 livesH3427 And throughH5674 whichH2004 noH3808 sonH1121 of manH120 passesH5674.4492I will punishH6485 BelH1078 in BabylonH894, And I will make whatH1105 he has swallowedH1105 93comeH3318 out of his mouthH6310; And the nationsH1471 will noH3808 longerH5750 94streamH5102 to him. EvenH1571 the 95wallH2346 of BabylonH894 has fallenH5307 downH5307!
45“96ComeH3318 forthH3318 from her midstH8432, My peopleH5971, And eachH376 of you 97saveH4422 yourselvesH5315 From the fierceH2740 angerH639 of the LordH3068.46Now 98soH6435 that your heartH3824 does not growH7401 faintH7401, And you are not afraidH3372 at the 99reportH8052 that will be heardH8085 in the landH776-- For the reportH8052 will comeH935 100one yearH8141, And afterH310 that 101another reportH8052 in 102another yearH8141, And violenceH2555 will be in the landH776 With 103rulerH4910 againstH5921 rulerH4910--47ThereforeH3651 beholdH2009, daysH3117 are comingH935 When I will punishH6485 the 104idolsH6456 of BabylonH894; And her wholeH3605 landH776 will be 105putH954 to shameH954 And allH3605 her slainH2491 will fallH5307 in her midstH8432.48Then 106heavenH8064 and earthH776 and allH3605 that is in them Will shoutH7442 for joyH7442 overH5921 BabylonH894, For 107the destroyersH7703 will comeH935 to her from the northH6828,” DeclaresH5002 the LordH3068.
49108IndeedH1571 BabylonH894 is to fallH5307 for the slainH2491 of IsraelH3478, As alsoH1571 for BabylonH894 109the slainH2491 of allH3605 the earthH776 have fallenH5307.50You 110whoH6412 have escapedH6412 the swordH2719, DepartH1980! Do not stayH5975! 111RememberH2142 the LordH3068 from afarH7350, And let JerusalemH3389 112comeH5927 to your mindH3824.51113We are ashamedH954 becauseH3588 we have heardH8085 reproachH2781; DisgraceH3639 has coveredH3680 our facesH6440, For 114aliensH2114 have enteredH935 The holyH4720 placesH4720 of the Lord’sH3068 houseH1004.
52“ThereforeH3651 beholdH2009, the daysH3117 are comingH935,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “When I will punishH6485 her 115idolsH6456, And the mortallyH2491 woundedH2491 will groanH602 throughoutH3605 her landH776.53ThoughH3588 BabylonH894 should 116ascendH5927 to the heavensH8064, And thoughH3588 she should fortifyH1219 117her loftyH4791 strongholdH5797, From 118Me destroyersH7703 will comeH935 to her,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.
54The 119soundH6963 of an outcryH2201 from BabylonH894, And of greatH1419 destructionH7667 from the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778!55For the LordH3068 is going to destroyH7703 BabylonH894, And He will makeH6 her loudH1419 120noiseH6963 vanishH6 from her. And their 121wavesH1530 will roarH1993 like manyH7227 watersH4325; The tumultH7588 of their voicesH6963 122soundsH5414 forthH5414.56For the 123destroyerH7703 is comingH935 againstH5921 her, againstH5921 BabylonH894, And her mightyH1368 menH1368 will be capturedH3920, Their 124bowsH7198 are shatteredH2865; For the LordH3068 is a GodH410 of 125recompenseH1578, He will fullyH7999 repayH7999.57“I will 126makeH7937 her princesH8269 and her wiseH2450 menH2450 drunkH7937, Her governorsH6346, her prefectsH5461 and her mightyH1368 menH1368, That they may sleepH3462 a 127perpetualH5769 sleepH8142 and not wakeH3364 up,” 128DeclaresH5002 the KingH4428, whose nameH8034 is the LordH3068 of hostsH6635. 58ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, “The broadH7342 129wallH2346 of BabylonH894 will be completelyH6209 razedH6209 And her highH1364 130gatesH8179 will be setH3341 on fireH784; So the peoplesH5971 will 131toilH3021 for nothingH1767H7385, And the nationsH3816 becomeH3286 132exhaustedH3286 only for fireH784.”
59The 133messageH1697 whichH834 JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 commandedH6680 SeraiahH8304 the sonH1121 of 134NeriahH5374, the grandsonH1121 of MahseiahH4271, when he wentH1980 with 135ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 to BabylonH894 in the fourthH7243 yearH8141 of his reignH4427. (Now SeraiahH8304 was quartermasterH8269H4496.) 60So JeremiahH3414 136wroteH3789 in a singleH259 137scrollH5612 allH3605 the calamityH7463 whichH834 would comeH935 upon BabylonH894, that is, allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697 which have been writtenH3789 concerningH413 BabylonH894. 61Then JeremiahH3414 saidH559 to SeraiahH8304, “As soon as you comeH935 to BabylonH894, then seeH7200 that you readH7121 allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697 aloud, 62and sayH559, ‘You, O LordH3068, have 138promisedH1696 concerningH413 thisH2088 placeH4725 to 139cutH3772 it offH3772, so that there will be 140nothingH1115 dwellingH3427 in it, 141whetherH4480 manH120 or beastH929, but it will be a perpetualH5769 desolationH8077.’ 63And as soon as you finishH3615 readingH7121 thisH2088 142scrollH5612, you will tieH7194 a stoneH68 to it and 143throwH7993 it into the middleH8432 of the EuphratesH6578, 64and sayH559, ‘JustH3602 soH3602 shall BabylonH894 sinkH8257 downH8257 and 144not riseH6965 again becauseH4480H6440 of the calamityH7463 that I am going to bringH935 upon her; and they will becomeH3286 145exhaustedH3286.’” 146ThusH2008 farH5704 are the wordsH1697 of JeremiahH3414.
