Jeremiah 21:1-10
1The wordH1697 whichH834 cameH1961 to JeremiahH3414 from the LordH3068 when 1KingH4428 ZedekiahH6667 sentH7971 to him 2PashhurH6583 the sonH1121 of MalchijahH4441, and 3ZephaniahH6846 the priestH3548, the sonH1121 of MaaseiahH4641, sayingH559, 2“PleaseH4994 4inquireH1875 of the LordH3068 on our behalfH1157, for 5NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of 6BabylonH894 is warringH3898 againstH5921 us; perhapsH194 the LordH3068 will dealH6213 with us 7according to allH3605 His 8wonderfulH6381 actsH6381, so that the enemy will withdrawH5927 from us.”
3Then JeremiahH3414 saidH559 to them, “You shall sayH559 to ZedekiahH6667 as followsH3541: 4‘ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478, “BeholdH2009, I am about to 9turnH5437 backH5437 the weaponsH3627 of warH4421 whichH834 are in your handsH3027, with whichH834 you are warringH3898 againstH854 the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 and the ChaldeansH3778 who are besiegingH6696H5921 you outsideH4480H2351 the wallH2346; and I will 10gatherH622 them into the centerH8432 of thisH2088 cityH5892. 5I 11MyselfH589 will warH3898 againstH854 you with an 12outstretchedH5186 handH3027 and a mightyH2389 armH2220, even in 13angerH639 and wrathH2534 and greatH1419 indignationH7110. 6I will also strikeH5221 downH5221 the inhabitantsH3427 of thisH2088 cityH5892, both manH120 and beastH929; they will dieH4191 of a greatH1419 14pestilenceH1698. 7Then afterwardsH310H3651,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “15I will giveH5414 over ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 and his servantsH5650 and the peopleH5971, even those who surviveH7604 in thisH2088 cityH5892 from the pestilenceH1698, the swordH2719 and the famineH7458, into the handH3027 of NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and into the handH3027 of their foesH340 and into the handH3027 of those who seekH1245 their livesH5315; and he will strikeH5221 them downH5221 with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719. He 16will not spareH2347 them norH3808 haveH2550 pityH2550 norH3808 compassionH7355.”’
8“You shall also sayH559 to thisH2088 peopleH5971, ‘ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, “BeholdH2009, I 17setH5414 beforeH6440 you the wayH1870 of lifeH2425 and the wayH1870 of deathH4194. 9He who 18dwellsH3427 in thisH2088 cityH5892 will dieH4191 by the 19swordH2719 and by famineH7458 and by pestilenceH1698; but he who goesH3318 out and fallsH5307 awayH5307 to the ChaldeansH3778 who are besiegingH6696H5921 you will liveH2421, and he will haveH1961 his own lifeH5315 as bootyH7998. 10For I have 20setH7760 My faceH6440 against thisH2088 cityH5892 for 21harmH7463 and not for goodH2899,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068. “It will be 22givenH5414 into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 and he will 23burnH8313 it with fireH784.”’
