Jeremiah 2:5-34
5ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, “1WhatH4100 injusticeH5766 did your fathersH1 findH4672 in Me, That they wentH7368 farH7368 from Me And walkedH1980 afterH310 2emptinessH1892 and becameH1891 emptyH1891?6They did not sayH559, ‘WhereH346 is the LordH3068 Who 3broughtH5927 us up out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, Who 4ledH1980 us through the wildernessH4057, Through a landH776 of desertsH6160 and of pitsH7745, Through a landH776 of droughtH6723 and of 5deepH6757 darknessH6757, Through a landH776 that noH3808 oneH376 crossedH5674 And whereH8033 noH3808 manH120 dweltH3427?’7I broughtH935 you into the 6fruitfulH3759 landH776 To eatH398 its fruitH6529 and its goodH2898 thingsH2898. But you cameH935 and 7defiledH2930 My landH776, And My inheritanceH5159 you madeH7760 an abominationH8441.8The 8priestsH3548 did not sayH559, ‘WhereH346 is the LordH3068?’ And those who handleH8610 the lawH8451 9did not knowH3045 Me; The 10rulersH7462 also transgressedH6586 against Me, And the 11prophetsH5030 prophesiedH5012 by BaalH1168 And walkedH1980 afterH310 12things that did not profitH3276.
9“ThereforeH3651 I will yetH5750 13contendH7378 with you,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “And with your sons’H1121 sonsH1121 I will contendH7378.10For 14crossH5674 to the coastlandsH339 of 15KittimH3794 and seeH7200, And sendH7971 to 16KedarH6938 and observeH995 closelyH3966 And seeH7200 ifH2005 there has beenH1961 such a thing as thisH2088!11Has a nationH1471 changedH4171 godsH430 When 17they were not godsH430? But My peopleH5971 have 18changedH4171 their gloryH3519 For that which does not profitH3276.12Be appalledH8074, 19O heavensH8064, at thisH2088, And shudderH8175, be veryH3966 desolateH2717,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.13“For My peopleH5971 have committedH6213 twoH8147 evilsH7451: They have forsakenH5800 Me, The 20fountainH4726 of livingH2416 watersH4325, To hewH2672 for themselves 21cisternsH877, BrokenH7665 cisternsH877 That canH3201 holdH3557 noH3808 waterH4325.
14“Is IsraelH3478 22a slaveH5650? OrH518 is he a homebornH3211H1004 servant? WhyH4069 has he becomeH1961 a preyH957?15The youngH3715 23lionsH3715 have roaredH7580 at him, They have 24roaredH5414H6963 loudlyH5414H6963. And they have 25madeH7896 his landH776 a wasteH8047; His citiesH5892 have been destroyedH5327, withoutH1097 inhabitantH3427.16AlsoH1571 the 26menH1121 of 27MemphisH5297 and TahpanhesH8471 Have 28shavedH7462 the 29crownH6936 of your headH6936.17Have you not 30doneH6213 thisH2088 to yourself By your forsakingH5800 the LordH3068 your GodH430 WhenH6256 He 31ledH1980 you in the wayH1870?18But nowH6258 whatH4100 are you doing 32on the roadH1870 to EgyptH4714, To drinkH8354 the watersH4325 of the 3334NileH7883? Or whatH4100 are you doing on the roadH1870 to AssyriaH804, To drinkH8354 the watersH4325 of the 35EuphratesH5104?1936Your own wickednessH7463 will correctH3256 you, And your 37apostasiesH4878 will reproveH3198 you; KnowH3045 therefore and seeH7200 that it is evilH7451 and 38bitterH4751 For you to forsakeH5800 the LordH3068 your GodH430, And 39the dreadH6345 of Me is not in you,” declaresH5002 the LordH136 40GodH3068 of hostsH6635.
20“For longH5769 agoH5769 4142I brokeH7665 your yokeH5923 And toreH5423 offH5423 your bondsH4147; But you saidH559, ‘I will not serveH5647!’ For on everyH3605 43highH1364 hillH1389 And underH8478 everyH3605 greenH7488 treeH6086 You have lainH6808 downH6808 as a harlotH2181.21Yet I 44plantedH5193 you a choiceH8321 vineH8321, A completelyH3605 faithfulH571 seedH2233. HowH349 then have you turnedH2015 yourself before Me Into the 45degenerateH5493 shoots of a foreignH5237 vineH1612?22AlthoughH3588H518 you 46washH3526 yourself with lyeH5427 And 47useH7235 muchH7235 soapH1287, The 48stainH3799 of your iniquityH5771 is beforeH6440 Me,” declaresH5002 the LordH136 49GodH3068.23“50HowH349 can you sayH559, ‘I am not defiledH2930, I have not goneH1980 afterH310 the 51BaalsH1168’? LookH7200 at your wayH1870 in the 52valleyH1516! KnowH3045 whatH4100 you have doneH6213! You are a swiftH7031 youngH1072 camelH1072 53entanglingH8308 her waysH1870,24A 54wildH6501 donkeyH6501 accustomedH3928 to the wildernessH4057, That sniffsH7602 the windH7307 in her passionH185H5315. In the time of her 55heatH8385 whoH4310 can turnH7725 her awayH7725? AllH3605 who seekH1245 her will not becomeH3286 wearyH3286; In her monthH2320 they will findH4672 her.25KeepH4513 your feetH7272 from being unshodH3182 And your throatH1627 from thirstH6773; But you saidH559, ‘56It is 57hopelessH2976! NoH3808! For I have 58lovedH157 strangersH2114, And afterH310 them I will walkH1980.’
26“As the 59thiefH1590 is shamedH954 whenH3588 he is discoveredH4672, SoH3651 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 is shamedH954; They, their kingsH4428, their princesH8269 And their priestsH3548 and their prophetsH5030,27Who sayH559 to a treeH6086, ‘You are my fatherH1,’ And to a stoneH68, ‘You gaveH3205 me birthH3205.’ For they have turnedH6437 their 60backH6203 to Me, And not their faceH6440; But in the 61timeH6256 of their 62troubleH7463 they will sayH559, ‘AriseH6965 and saveH3467 us.’28But whereH346 are your 63godsH430 WhichH834 you madeH6213 for yourself? Let them ariseH6965, ifH518 they can 64saveH3467 you In the timeH6256 of your 65troubleH7463; For 66according to the numberH4557 of your citiesH5892 Are your godsH430, O JudahH3063.
29“WhyH4100 do you contendH7378 with Me? You have 67allH3605 transgressedH6586 against Me,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.30“68In vainH7723 I have struckH5221 your sonsH1121; They acceptedH3947 noH3808 chasteningH4148. Your 69swordH2719 has devouredH398 your prophetsH5030 Like a destroyingH7843 lionH743.31O generationH1755, heedH7200 the wordH1697 of the LordH3068. Have I beenH1961 a wildernessH4057 to IsraelH3478, OrH518 a 70landH776 of thickH3991 darknessH3991? WhyH4069 do My peopleH5971 sayH559, ‘71We are free to roamH7300; We will noH3808 longerH5750 comeH935 to You’?32Can a virginH1330 forgetH7911 her ornamentsH5716, Or a brideH3618 her attireH7196? Yet My peopleH5971 have 72forgottenH7911 Me DaysH3117 withoutH369 numberH4557.33HowH4100 wellH3190 you prepareH3190 your wayH1870 To seekH1245 loveH160! ThereforeH3651 evenH1571 73the wickedH7451 womenH7451 You have taughtH3925 your waysH1870.34AlsoH1571 on your skirtsH3671 is foundH4672 The 74lifebloodH1818H5315 of the innocentH5355 poorH34; You did not findH4672 them 75breakingH4290 in. But in spiteH5921 of allH3605 theseH428 thingsH428,
