17They sacrificedוַֽ֠יַּעֲבִירוּVai.ya.'a.vi.ruH5674their sonsבְּנֵיהֶ֤םbe.nei.HemH1121אֶת־'et-H853and daughtersבְּנֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙be.no.tei.HemH1323וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853in the fireבָּאֵ֔שׁba.'EshH784and practicedוַיִּקְסְמ֥וּvai.yik.se.MuH7080divinationקְסָמִ֖יםke.sa.MimH7081and soothsayingוַיְנַחֵ֑שׁוּvay.na.Che.shuH5172.They devoted themselvesוַיִּֽתְמַכְּר֗וּvai.yit.ma.ke.RuH4376to doingלַעֲשׂ֥וֹתla.'a.SotH6213evilהָרַ֛עha.Ra'H7451in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֥יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,provoking Him to angerלְהַכְעִיסֽוֹ׃le.hakh.'i.SoH3707.

18So the LORDיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068was veryמְאֹד֙me.'OdH3966angryוַיִּתְאַנַּ֨ףvai.yit.'a.NafH599with Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,and He removed themוַיְסִרֵ֖םvay.si.RemH5493fromמֵעַ֣לme.'AlH5921His presenceפָּנָ֑יו לֹ֣אpa.Nav lo'H6440 H3808.Onlyרַ֛קrakH7535the tribeשֵׁ֥בֶטShe.vetH7626of Judahיְהוּדָ֖ה לְבַדּֽוֹ׃ye.hu.Dah le.va.DoH3063 H905remainedנִשְׁאַ֔רnish.'ArH7604,

19and evenגַּם־gam-H1571Judahיְהוּדָ֕הye.hu.DahH3063did notלֹ֣אlo'H3808keepשָׁמַ֔רsha.MarH8104אֶת־'et-H853the commandmentsמִצְוֹ֖תmitz.VotH4687of the LORDיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068their Godאֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ם'e.lo.hei.HemH430,but livedוַיֵּ֣לְכ֔וּvai.Ye.le.KhuH1980according to the customsבְּחֻקּ֥וֹתbe.chu.KotH2708Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834had introducedעָשֽׂוּ׃'a.SuH6213.

20So the LORDיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068rejectedוַיִּמְאַ֨סvai.yim.'AsH3988allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the descendantsזֶ֤רַעZe.ra'H2233of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478.He afflicted themוַיְעַנֵּ֔םvay.'a.NemH6031and delivered themוַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖םvai.yi.te.NemH5414into the handsבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027of plunderersשֹׁסִ֑יםsho.SimH8154,untilעַ֛ד'adH5704אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834He had banished themהִשְׁלִיכָ֖םhish.li.KhamH7993from His presenceמִפָּנָֽיו׃mi.pa.NavH6440.

21Whenכִּֽי־ki-H3588the LORDhad tornקָרַ֣עka.Ra'H7167Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478away fromמֵעַל֙me.'AlH5921the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732,they made Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֣םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nebatנְבָ֑טne.VatH5028 H5077kingוַיַּמְלִ֖יכוּvai.yam.Li.khuH4427אֶת־'et-H853,and Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֤םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379אֶת־'et-H853led Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478away from followingמֵאַחֲרֵ֣יme.'a.cha.ReiH310the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068and caused them to commitוְהֶחֱטֵיאָ֖םve.he.che.tei.'AmH2398a greatגְדוֹלָֽה׃ge.do.LahH1419sinחֲטָאָ֥הcha.ta.'AhH2401.

22The Israelitesבְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478persistedוַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙vai.ye.le.KhuH1980in allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the sinsחַטֹּ֥אותcha.TotH2403thatאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֖םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379had committedעָשָׂ֑ה'a.SahH6213and did notלֹא־lo'-H3808turn awayסָ֖רוּSa.ruH5493from themמִמֶּֽנָּה׃mi.Me.nahH4480.

23Finallyעַ֠ד'adH5704אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834,the LORDיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068אֶת־'et-H853removedהֵסִ֨ירhe.SirH5493Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478fromמֵעַ֣לme.'AlH5921His presenceפָּנָ֔יוpa.NavH6440,asכַּאֲשֶׁ֣רka.'a.SherH834He had declaredדִּבֶּ֔רdi.BerH1696throughבְּיַ֖דbe.YadH3027allכָּל־kol-H3605His servantsעֲבָדָ֣יו'a.va.DavH5650the prophetsהַנְּבִיאִ֑יםha.ne.vi.'ImH5030.So Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֜לYis.ra.'ElH3478was exiledוַיִּ֨גֶלvai.Yi.gelH1540fromמֵעַ֤לme.'AlH5921their homelandאַדְמָתוֹ֙'ad.ma.ToH127into Assyriaאַשּׁ֔וּרָה'a.Shu.rahH804, where they aretoעַ֖ד'adH5704thisהַזֶּֽה׃ פha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117.

24Then the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֡וּר'a.ShurH804broughtוַיָּבֵ֣אvai.ya.Ve'H935people from Babylonמִבָּבֶ֡לmi.ba.VelH894,Cuthahוּ֠מִכּוּ֠תָהu.Mi.ku.tahH3575,Avvaוּמֵעַוָּ֤אu.me.'a.Va'H5755,Hamathוּמֵֽחֲמָת֙u.me.cha.MatH2574,and Sepharvaimוּסְפַרְוַ֔יִםu.se.far.Va.yimH5617and settled themוַיֹּ֙שֶׁב֙vai.Yo.shevH3427in the townsבְּעָרֵ֣יbe.'a.ReiH5892of Samariaשֹֽׁמְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111to replaceתַּ֖חַתTa.chatH8478the Israelitesבְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑לbe.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478.They took possession ofוַיִּֽרְשׁוּ֙vai.yir.ShuH3423אֶת־'et-H853Samariaשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111and livedוַיֵּֽשְׁב֖וּvai.ye.she.VuH3427in its townsבְּעָרֶֽיהָ׃be.'a.Rei.haH5892.

25Nowוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961when the settlers firstבִּתְחִלַּת֙bit.chi.LatH8462livedשִׁבְתָּ֣םshiv.TamH3427thereשָׁ֔םShamH8033,they did notלֹ֥אlo'H3808worshipיָרְא֖וּya.re.'UH3372אֶת־'et-H853the LORDיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,so Heיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068sentוַיְשַׁלַּ֨חvay.sha.LachH7971lionsהָ֣אֲרָי֔וֹתha.'a.ra.YotH738among themאֶת־'et-H853,whichוַיִּֽהְי֥וּvai.yih.YuH1961killedהֹרְגִ֖יםho.re.GimH2026some of them.

26So they spokeוַיֹּאמְר֗וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to the kingלְמֶ֣לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428of Assyriaאַשּׁוּר֮'a.ShurH804,sayingלֵאמֹר֒le.MorH559, “The peoplesהַגּוֹיִ֗םha.go.YimH1471thatאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834you have removedהִגְלִ֙יתָ֙hig.Li.taH1540and placedוַתּ֙וֹשֶׁב֙va.To.o.shevH3427in the citiesבְּעָרֵ֣יbe.'a.ReiH5892of Samariaשֹׁמְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111do notלֹ֣אlo'H3808knowיָֽדְע֔וּya.de.'UH3045אֶת־'et-H853the requirementsמִשְׁפַּ֖טmish.PatH4941of the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776.Because of thisכַּאֲשֶׁר֙ אֵינָ֣ם יֹדְעִ֔יםka.'a.Sher 'ei.Nam yo.de.'ImH834 H369 H3045אֶת־'et-H853מִשְׁפַּ֖טmish.PatH4941אֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430הָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776,He has sentוַיְשַׁלַּח־vay.sha.lach-H7971אוֹתָ֔ם'o.TamH853lionsהָאֲרָי֗וֹתha.'a.ra.YotH738among them,which are indeedוְהִנָּם֙ve.hi.NamH2009killing them offמְמִיתִ֣יםme.mi.TimH4191אֶת־'et-H853.”

27Then the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֜וּר לֵאמֹ֗ר'a.Shur le.MorH804 H559commandedוַיְצַ֨וvay.TzavH6680: “Send backהֹלִ֤יכוּho.Li.khuH1980שָׁ֙מָּה֙Sha.mahH8033oneאֶחָ֤ד'e.ChadH259of the priestsמֵהַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙me.ha.ko.ha.NimH3548אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834you carried offהִגְלִיתֶ֣םhig.li.TemH1540fromמִשָּׁ֔םmi.ShamH8033Samaria,and have him go backוְיֵלְכ֖וּve.ye.le.KhuH1980to liveוְיֵ֣שְׁבוּve.Ye.she.vuH3427thereשָׁ֑םShamH8033and teachוְיֹרֵ֕םve.yo.RemH3384אֶת־'et-H853the requirementsמִשְׁפַּ֖טmish.PatH4941of the Godאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.”

28Thus oneאֶחָ֣ד'e.ChadH259of the priestsמֵהַכֹּהֲנִ֗יםme.ha.ko.ha.NimH3548אֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834they had carried awayהִגְלוּ֙ מִשֹּׁ֣מְר֔וֹןhig.Lu mi.Sho.me.RonH1540 H8111cameוַיָּבֹ֞אvai.ya.Vo'H935and livedוַיֵּ֖שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427in Bethelוַֽיְהִי֙vay.HiH1008 H1961,and he began to teachמוֹרֶ֣הmo.RehH3384themאֹתָ֔ם'o.TamH853howאֵ֖יךְ'eikhH349they should worshipיִֽירְא֥וּyi.re.'UH3372אֶת־'et-H853the LORDיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

29Neverthelessוַיִּהְי֣וּvai.yih.YuH1961,the people of each nationH1471continued to makeעֹשִׂ֔ים'o.SimH6213their own godsאֱלֹהָ֑יו'e.lo.HavH430H1471in the citiesבְּעָ֣רֵיהֶ֔םbe.'A.rei.HemH5892whereאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834theyהֵ֥םhemH1992had settledיֹשְׁבִ֖יםyo.she.VimH3427שָֽׁם׃ShamH8033,and they set them upוַיַּנִּ֣יחוּ׀vai.ya.Ni.chuH5117in the shrinesבְּבֵ֣יתbe.VeitH1004thatאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834the peopleH1471of Samariaהַשֹּׁ֣מְרֹנִ֔יםha.Sho.me.ro.NimH8118had madeעָשׂוּ֙'a.SuH6213on the high placesהַבָּמ֗וֹתha.ba.MotH1116.
