2“When thisהַזֶּה֙ אֲלֵיכֶ֔םha.Zeh 'a.lei.KhemH2088H413letterהַסֵּ֤פֶרha.Se.ferH5612arrivesבְּבֹ֨אbe.Vo'H935,sinceוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258your master’sאֲדֹנֵיכֶ֑ם'a.do.nei.KhemH113sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121are with youוְאִתְּכֶ֖םve.'i.te.KhemH854and you haveוְאִתְּכֶם֙ve.'i.te.KhemH854chariotsהָרֶ֣כֶבha.Re.khevH7393and horsesוְהַסּוּסִ֔יםve.ha.su.SimH5483,a fortifiedמִבְצָ֖רmiv.TzarH4013cityוְעִ֥ירve.'IrH5892and weaponryוְהַנָּֽשֶׁק׃ve.ha.Na.shekH5402,

7Andוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961when the letterהַסֵּ֙פֶר֙ha.Se.ferH5612arrivedכְּבֹ֤א אֲלֵיהֶ֔םke.Vo' 'a.lei.HemH935H413,they tookוַיִּקְחוּ֙vai.yik.ChuH3947אֶת־'et-H853the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428and slaughteredוַֽיִּשְׁחֲט֖וּvai.yish.cha.TuH7819all seventyשִׁבְעִ֣יםshiv.'ImH7657of themאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376.They putוַיָּשִׂ֤ימוּvai.ya.Si.muH7760אֶת־'et-H853their headsרָֽאשֵׁיהֶם֙ra.shei.HemH7218in basketsבַּדּוּדִ֔יםba.du.DimH1731and sent themוַיִּשְׁלְח֥וּvai.yish.le.ChuH7971to Jehuאֵלָ֖יו'e.LavH413at Jezreelיִזְרְעֶֽאלָה׃yiz.re.'E.lahH3157.
8When the messengerהַמַּלְאָךְ֙ha.mal.'oKhH4397arrivedוַיָּבֹ֤אvai.ya.Vo'H935,he toldוַיַּגֶּד־vai.ya.ged-H5046Jehu, “They have broughtהֵבִ֖יאוּhe.Vi.'uH935the headsרָאשֵׁ֣יra.SheiH7218of the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of the kingלֵאמֹ֔ר הַמֶּ֑לֶךְle.Mor ha.Me.lekhH4428H559.”And Jehu orderedוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Pileשִׂ֣ימוּSi.muH7760themאֹתָ֞ם'o.TamH853in twoשְׁנֵ֧יshe.NeiH8147heapsצִבֻּרִ֛יםtzi.bu.RimH6652at the entranceפֶּ֥תַחPe.tachH6607of the gateהַשַּׁ֖עַרha.Sha.'arH8179untilעַד־'ad-H5704morningהַבֹּֽקֶר׃ha.Bo.kerH1242.”
9וַיְהִ֤יvay.HiH1961The next morningבַבֹּ֙קֶר֙va.Bo.kerH1242, Jehuwent outוַיֵּצֵ֣אvai.ye.Tze'H3318and stoodוַֽיַּעֲמֹ֔דvai.ya.'a.ModH5975beforeאֶל־'el-H413allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Youאַתֶּ֑ם הִנֵּ֨ה'a.Tem hi.NehH859H2009are innocentצַדִּקִ֖יםtza.di.KimH6662.It was Iאֲנִ֜י'a.NiH589who conspiredקָשַׁ֤רְתִּיka.Shar.tiH7194againstעַל־'al-H5921my masterאֲדֹנִי֙'a.do.NiH113and killed himוָאֶהְרְגֵ֔הוּva.'eh.re.Ge.huH2026.But whoוּמִ֥יu.MiH4310killedהִכָּ֖הhi.KahH5221אֶת־'et-H853allכָּל־kol-H3605theseאֵֽלֶּה׃'E.lehH428?

11So Jehuיֵה֗וּאye.Hu'H3058אֵ֣ת'etH853killedוַיַּ֣ךְvai.YakhH5221everyoneכָּל־kol-H3605in Jezreelבְּיִזְרְעֶ֔אלbe.yiz.re.'ElH3157who remainedהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֤יםha.nish.'a.RimH7604of the houseלְבֵית־le.veit-H1004of Ahabאַחְאָב֙'ach.'AvH256,as well as allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605his great menגְּדֹלָ֖יוge.do.LavH1419and close friendsוּמְיֻדָּעָ֣יוu.me.yu.da.'AvH3045and priestsוְכֹהֲנָ֑יו עַד־ve.kho.ha.Nav 'ad-H3548H5704,leavingהִשְׁאִֽיר־hish.'ir-H7604himwithoutבִּלְתִּ֥יbil.TiH1115a singlesurvivorשָׂרִֽיד׃sa.RidH8300.
13Jehuוְיֵה֗וּאve.ye.Hu'H3058metמָצָא֙ma.Tza'H4672אֶת־'et-H853some relativesאֲחֵי֙'a.CheiH251of Ahaziahאֲחַזְיָ֣הוּ'a.chaz.Ya.huH274kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063and askedוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whoמִ֣יmiH4310are youאַתֶּ֑ם'a.TemH859?” “We areאֲנַ֔חְנוּ'a.Nach.nuH587relativesאֲחֵ֤י'a.CheiH251of Ahaziahאֲחַזְיָ֙הוּ֙'a.chaz.Ya.huH274,”they answeredוַיֹּאמְר֗וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “and we have come downוַנֵּ֛רֶדva.Ne.redH3381to greetלִשְׁל֥וֹםlish.LomH7965the sonsבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121of the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428andוּבְנֵ֥יu.ve.NeiH1121of the queen motherהַגְּבִירָֽה׃ha.ge.vi.RahH1377.”
14Then Jehu orderedוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Take themתִּפְשׂ֣וּםtif.SumH8610aliveחַיִּ֔יםchai.YimH2416.”So his men took themוַֽיִּתְפְּשׂ֖וּםvai.yit.pe.SumH8610aliveחַיִּ֑יםchai.YimH2416,then slaughtered themוַֽיִּשְׁחָט֞וּםvai.yish.cha.TumH7819atאֶל־'el-H413the wellבּ֣וֹרBorH953of Beth-ekedH1044—forty-twoאַרְבָּעִ֤ים וּשְׁנַ֙יִם֙'ar.ba.'Im u.she.Na.yimH705H8147menאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376.Heוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808sparedהִשְׁאִ֥ירhish.'IrH7604noneאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376of them.
15When he leftוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980thereמִשָּׁ֡םmi.ShamH8033,he foundוַיִּמְצָ֣אvai.yim.Tza'H4672אֶת־'et-H853Jehonadabיְהוֹנָדָב֩ye.ho.na.DavH3082sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Rechabרֵכָ֨בre.KhavH7394,who was coming to meet himלִקְרָאת֜וֹlik.ra.ToH7122. Jehugreeted himוַֽיְבָרְכֵ֗הוּvay.va.re.Khe.huH1288and askedוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559אֵלָ֜יו'e.LavH413, “Isהֲיֵ֧שׁ אֶת־ha.Yesh 'et-H3426H854your heartלְבָבְךָ֣le.va.ve.KhaH3824as true to mineיָשָׁ֗רya.SharH3477asכַּאֲשֶׁ֤רka.'a.SherH834my heartלְבָבִי֙le.va.ViH3824isעִם־'im-H5973to yoursלְבָבֶ֔ךָle.va.Ve.khaH3824?” “It isיֵ֛שׁyeshH3426!”Jehonadabיְהוֹנָדָ֥בye.ho.na.DavH3082repliedוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559. “If it is,” said Jehuוָיֵ֖שׁva.YeshH3426, “giveתְּנָ֣הte.NahH5414meאֶת־'et-H853your handיָדֶ֑ךָya.De.khaH3027.”So he gave himוַיִּתֵּ֣ןvai.yi.TenH5414his handיָד֔וֹya.DoH3027,and Jehu helped himוַיַּעֲלֵ֥הוּvai.ya.'a.Le.huH5927intoאֵלָ֖יו'e.LavH413his chariotאֶל־ הַמֶּרְכָּבָֽה׃'el- ha.mer.ka.VahH4818H413,
17When Jehu cameוַיָּבֹא֙vai.ya.Vo'H935to Samariaשֹֽׁמְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111,he struck downוַ֠יַּךְVai.yakhH5221אֶת־'et-H853everyoneכָּל־kol-H3605belonging to Ahabלְאַחְאָ֛בle.'ach.'AvH256who remainedהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֧יםha.nish.'a.RimH7604thereבְּשֹׁמְר֖וֹןbe.sho.me.RonH8111,untilעַד־'ad-H5704he had destroyed themהִשְׁמִיד֑וֹhish.mi.DoH8045,according to the wordכִּדְבַ֣רkid.VarH1697thatאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068had spokenדִּבֶּ֖רdi.BerH1696toאֶל־'el-H413Elijahאֵלִיָּֽהוּ׃ פ'e.li.Ya.huH452.
Jehu Kills the Priests of Baal
18Then Jehuיֵהוּא֙ye.Hu'H3058אֶת־'et-H853brought allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971togetherוַיִּקְבֹּ֤ץvai.yik.BotzH6908and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559אֲלֵהֶ֔ם'a.le.HemH413, “Ahabאַחְאָ֕ב'ach.'AvH256servedעָבַ֥ד'a.VadH5647אֶת־'et-H853Baalהַבַּ֖עַלha.Ba.'alH1168a littleמְעָ֑טme.'AtH4592,but Jehuיֵה֖וּאye.Hu'H3058will serve himיַעַבְדֶ֥נּוּya.'av.De.nuH5647a lotהַרְבֵּֽה׃har.BehH7235.
19Now, thereforeוְעַתָּ֣הve.'a.TahH6258,summonקִרְא֨וּkir.'UH7121to meאֵלַ֜י'e.LaiH413allכָל־khol-H3605the prophetsנְבִיאֵ֣יne.vi.'EiH5030of Baalהַבַּ֡עַלha.Ba.'alH1168,allכָּל־kol-H3605his servantsעֹבְדָ֣יו'oe.DavH5647,and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605his priestsכֹּהֲנָיו֩ko.ha.NavH3548.See that no oneאִ֣ישׁ אַל־'ish 'al-H376H408is missingיִפָּקֵ֗דyi.pa.KedH6485,forכִּי֩kiH3588I havea greatגָּד֥וֹלga.DolH1419sacrificeזֶ֨בַחZe.vachH2077for Baalלַבַּ֔עַלla.Ba.'alH1168.Whoeverכֹּ֥לkolH3605אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834is missingיִפָּקֵ֖דyi.pa.KedH6485will notלֹ֣אlo'H3808liveיִֽחְיֶ֑הyich.YehH2421.”But Jehuוְיֵהוּא֙ve.ye.Hu'H3058was actingעָשָׂ֣ה'a.SahH6213deceptivelyבְעָקְבָּ֔הve.'a.ke.BahH6122in order toלְמַ֥עַןle.Ma.'anH4616destroyהַאֲבִ֖ידha.'a.VidH6אֶת־'et-H853the servantsעֹבְדֵ֥י'oe.DeiH5647of Baalהַבָּֽעַל׃ha.Ba.'alH1168.
21Then Jehuיֵהוּא֙ye.Hu'H3058sent wordוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971throughoutבְּכָל־be.kholH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and allכָּל־kol-H3605the servantsעֹבְדֵ֣י'oe.DeiH5647of Baalהַבַּ֔עַלha.Ba.'alH1168cameוַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.'uH935;there was notוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808a manאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376נִשְׁאַ֥רnish.'ArH7604whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834failedלֹֽא־lo'-H3808to showבָ֑אVa'H935.They enteredוַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.'uH935the templeבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Baalהַבַּ֔עַלha.Ba.'alH1168,and itבֵית־ הַבַּ֖עַלveit- ha.Ba.'alH1004H1168was filledוַיִּמָּלֵ֥אvai.yi.ma.Le'H4390from endפֶּ֥הpehH6310to endלָפֶֽה׃la.PehH6310.
22And Jehu saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the keeperלַֽאֲשֶׁר֙ עַל־la.'a.Sher 'al-H834H5921of the wardrobeהַמֶּלְתָּחָ֔הha.mel.ta.ChahH4458, “Bring outהוֹצֵ֣אho.Tze'H3318garmentsלְב֔וּשׁle.VushH3830for allלְכֹ֖לle.KholH3605the servantsעֹבְדֵ֣י'oe.DeiH5647of Baalהַבָּ֑עַלha.Ba.'alH1168.”So he brought outוַיֹּצֵ֥אvai.yo.Tze'H3318garmentsהַמַּלְבּֽוּשׁ׃ha.mal.BushH4403for them.
23Next, Jehuיֵה֛וּאye.Hu'H3058and Jehonadabוִיהוֹנָדָ֥בvi.ho.na.DavH3082sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Rechabרֵכָ֖בre.KhavH7394enteredוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.Vo'H935the templeבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Baalהַבָּ֑עַלha.Ba.'alH1168,and Jehu saidוַיֹּ֜אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the servantsלְעֹבְדֵ֣יle.'oe.DeiH5647of Baalהַבַּ֗עַלha.Ba.'alH1168, “Look aroundחַפְּשׂ֤וּcha.pe.SuH2664to seeוּרְאוּ֙u.re.'UH7200that there areיֶשׁ־yesh-H3426noפֶּן־pen-H6435servantsמֵעַבְדֵ֣יme.'av.DeiH5650of the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068hereפֹּ֤הpohH6311among youעִמָּכֶם֙'i.ma.KhemH5973—onlyכִּ֛י אִם־ki 'im-H3588H518servantsעֹבְדֵ֥י'oe.DeiH5647of Baalהַבַּ֖עַל לְבַדָּֽם׃ha.Ba.'al le.va.DamH1168H905.”
24And they went inוַיָּבֹ֕אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to offerלַעֲשׂ֖וֹתla.'a.SotH6213sacrificesזְבָחִ֣יםze.va.ChimH2077and burnt offeringsוְעֹל֑וֹתve.'o.LotH5930.Now Jehuוְיֵה֞וּאve.ye.Hu'H3058had stationedשָׂם־som-H7760eightyשְׁמֹנִ֣יםshe.mo.NimH8084menאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376outsideבַחוּץ֙va.ChutzH2351and warned themוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “If anyoneהָאִ֤ישׁha.'IshH376אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834allows one ofמִן־min-H4480the menהָאֲנָשִׁ֗יםha.'a.na.ShimH582אֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834Iאֲנִי֙'a.NiH589am deliveringמֵבִ֣יאme.Vi'H935intoעַל־'al-H5921your handsיְדֵיכֶ֔םye.dei.KhemH3027to escapeיִמָּלֵט֙yi.ma.LetH4422,he will forfeit his lifeנַפְשׁ֖וֹnaf.ShoH5315forתַּ֥חַתTa.chatH8478theirsנַפְשֽׁוֹ׃naf.ShoH5315.”
