1Now Ahabוּלְאַחְאָ֛בu.le.'ach.'AvH256had seventyשִׁבְעִ֥יםshiv.'ImH7657sonsבָּנִ֖יםba.NimH1121inSamariaבְּשֹׁמְר֑וֹןbe.sho.me.RonH8111.And Jehuיֵה֨וּאye.Hu'H3058wroteוַיִּכְתֹּב֩vai.yikh.ToH3789lettersסְפָרִ֜יםse.fa.RimH5612and sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֣חvai.yish.LachH7971themto Samariaשֹׁמְר֗וֹןsho.me.RonH8111,to the rulersשָׂרֵ֤יsa.ReiH8269of Jezreelיִזְרְעֶאל֙yiz.re.'eLH3157,the eldersהַזְּקֵנִ֔יםha.ze.ke.NimH2205,and to the guardiansהָאֹמְנִ֥יםha.'o.me.NimH539of the children ofAhabאַחְאָ֖ב'ach.'AvH256,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

2“Nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258,when thisהַזֶּה֙ha.ZehH2088letterהַסֵּ֤פֶרha.Se.ferH5612comesבְּבֹ֨אbe.Vo'H935to you, since your master’sאֲדֹנֵיכֶ֑ם'a.do.nei.KhemH113sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121are with you,as well as the chariotsהָרֶ֣כֶבha.Re.khevH7393and horsesוְהַסּוּסִ֔יםve.ha.su.SimH5483and a fortifiedמִבְצָ֖רmiv.TzarH4013cityוְעִ֥ירve.'IrH5892and the weaponsוְהַנָּֽשֶׁק׃ve.ha.Na.shekH5402,

3selectוּרְאִיתֶ֞םu.re.'i.TemH7200the bestהַטּ֤וֹבha.TovH2896andfittestוְהַיָּשָׁר֙ve.hai.ya.SharH3477of your master’sאֲדֹנֵיכֶ֔ם'a.do.nei.KhemH113sonsמִבְּנֵ֣יmi.be.NeiH1121,and setוְשַׂמְתֶּ֖םve.sam.TemH7760himon his father’sאָבִ֑יו'a.VivH1throneכִּסֵּ֣אki.Se'H3678,and fightוְהִֽלָּחֲמ֖וּve.hi.la.cha.MuH3898for your master’sאֲדֹנֵיכֶֽם׃'a.do.nei.KhemH113houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004.”

4But they fearedוַיִּֽרְאוּ֙vai.yir.'UH3372greatlyH3966and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “Beholdהִנֵּה֙hi.NehH2009,the twoשְׁנֵ֣יshe.NeiH8147kingsהַמְּלָכִ֔יםha.me.la.KhimH4428did not standעָמְד֖וּ'a.me.DuH5975beforeלְפָנָ֑יוle.fa.NavH6440him; howוְאֵ֖יךְve.'EikhH349then can we standנַעֲמֹ֥דna.'a.ModH5975?”

5And the one whoH834wasoverעַל־'al-H5921the householdהַבַּ֣יִתha.Ba.yitH1004,and he whoH834wasoverעַל־'al-H5921the cityהָעִ֟ירha.'IrH5892,the eldersוְהַזְּקֵנִים֩ve.ha.ze.ke.NimH2205,and the guardiansוְהָאֹמְנִ֨יםve.ha.'o.me.NimH539of the children,sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֣חvai.yish.LachH7971wordto Jehuיֵה֤וּא׀ye.Hu'H3058,sayingלֵאמֹר֙le.MorH559, “We are your servantsעֲבָדֶ֣יךָ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650,allוְכֹ֛לve.KholH3605that you sayתֹּאמַ֥רto.MarH559to us we will doנַעֲשֶׂ֑הna.'a.SehH6213,we will not makeנַמְלִ֣יךְnam.LikhH4427anyH376manH376kingH4427;doעֲשֵֽׂה׃'a.SehH6213whatH2896is goodH2896in your sightבְּעֵינֶ֖יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869.”

6Then he wroteוַיִּכְתֹּ֣בvai.yikh.ToH3789a letterסֵ֨פֶר׀Se.ferH5612to them a secondשֵׁנִ֜יתshe.NitH8145timeH8145sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, “Ifאִם־'im-H518you are on my side, and you will listenשֹׁמְעִ֗יםsho.me.'ImH8085to my voiceוּלְקֹלִ֣י׀u.le.ko.LiH6963,takeקְחוּ֙ke.ChuH3947the headsרָאשֵׁי֙ra.SheiH7218of the menאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376,your master’sאֲדֹנֵיכֶ֔ם'a.do.nei.KhemH113sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121,and comeוּבֹ֧אוּu.Vo.'uH935to me at Jezreelיִזְרְעֶ֑אלָהyiz.re.'E.lahH3157tomorrowמָחָ֖רma.CharH4279about this timeכָּעֵ֥תka.'EtH6256.”Now the king’sהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428sonsוּבְנֵ֤יu.ve.NeiH1121,seventyשִׁבְעִ֣יםshiv.'ImH7657personsH376, werewith the greatגְּדֹלֵ֥יge.do.LeiH1419menH1419of the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892, whowere rearingמְגַדְּלִ֥יםme.ga.de.LimH1431them.

7When the letterהַסֵּ֙פֶר֙ha.Se.ferH5612cameכְּבֹ֤אke.Vo'H935to them, they tookוַיִּקְחוּ֙vai.yik.ChuH3947the king’sהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121andslaughteredוַֽיִּשְׁחֲט֖וּvai.yish.cha.TuH7819them,seventyשִׁבְעִ֣יםshiv.'ImH7657personsאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376,and putוַיָּשִׂ֤ימוּvai.ya.Si.muH7760their headsרָֽאשֵׁיהֶם֙ra.shei.HemH7218in basketsבַּדּוּדִ֔יםba.du.DimH1731,and sentוַיִּשְׁלְח֥וּvai.yish.le.ChuH7971themto him at Jezreelיִזְרְעֶֽאלָה׃yiz.re.'E.lahH3157.

8When the messengerהַמַּלְאָךְ֙ha.mal.'oKhH4397cameוַיָּבֹ֤אvai.ya.Vo'H935and toldוַיַּגֶּד־vai.ya.ged-H5046him, sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “They have broughtהֵבִ֖יאוּhe.Vi.'uH935the headsרָאשֵׁ֣יra.SheiH7218of the king’sהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121,”he saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Putשִׂ֣ימוּSi.muH7760them in twoשְׁנֵ֧יshe.NeiH8147heapsצִבֻּרִ֛יםtzi.bu.RimH6652at the entranceפֶּ֥תַחPe.tachH6607of the gateהַשַּׁ֖עַרha.Sha.'arH8179untilעַד־'ad-H5704morningהַבֹּֽקֶר׃ha.Bo.kerH1242.”

9Now in the morningבַבֹּ֙קֶר֙va.Bo.kerH1242he wentוַיֵּצֵ֣אvai.ye.Tze'H3318out and stoodוַֽיַּעֲמֹ֔דvai.ya.'a.ModH5975and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559to allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971, “You areinnocentצַדִּקִ֖יםtza.di.KimH6662;beholdהִנֵּ֨הhi.NehH2009,I conspiredקָשַׁ֤רְתִּיka.Shar.tiH7194againstעַל־'al-H5921my masterאֲדֹנִי֙'a.do.NiH113and killedוָאֶהְרְגֵ֔הוּva.'eh.re.Ge.huH2026him, butwhoוּמִ֥יu.MiH4310killedהִכָּ֖הhi.KahH5221allכָּל־kol-H3605theseאֵֽלֶּה׃'E.lehH428?

10Knowדְּע֣וּde.'UH3045thenאֵפ֗וֹא'e.Fo'H645thatthere shall fallיִפֹּ֜לyi.PolH5307to the earthאַ֔רְצָה'Ar.tzahH776nothingלֹ֨אlo'H3808of the wordמִדְּבַ֤רmi.de.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068spokeדִּבֶּ֥רdi.BerH1696concerningעַל־'al-H5921the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Ahabאַחְאָ֑ב'ach.'AvH256,for the Lordוַיהוָ֣הva.Yah.wehH3068has doneעָשָׂ֔ה'a.SahH6213whatאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834He spokeדִּבֶּ֔רdi.BerH1696throughבְּיַ֖דbe.YadH3027His servantעַבְדּ֥וֹav.DoH5650Elijahאֵלִיָּֽהוּ׃'e.li.Ya.huH452.”

11So Jehuיֵה֗וּאye.Hu'H3058killedוַיַּ֣ךְvai.YakhH5221allכָּל־kol-H3605who remainedהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֤יםha.nish.'a.RimH7604of the houseלְבֵית־le.veit-H1004of Ahabאַחְאָב֙'ach.'AvH256inJezreelבְּיִזְרְעֶ֔אלbe.yiz.re.'ElH3157,and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605his greatגְּדֹלָ֖יוge.do.LavH1419menH1419and his acquaintancesוּמְיֻדָּעָ֣יוu.me.yu.da.'AvH3045and his priestsוְכֹהֲנָ֑יוve.kho.ha.NavH3548,untilעַד־'ad-H5704he leftהִשְׁאִֽיר־hish.'ir-H7604him withoutבִּלְתִּ֥יbil.TiH1115a survivorשָׂרִֽיד׃sa.RidH8300.

12Then he aroseוַיָּ֙קָם֙vai.Ya.komH6965and departedוַיָּבֹ֔אvai.ya.Vo'H935and wentוַיֵּ֖לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to Samariaשֹׁמְר֑וֹןsho.me.RonH8111.On the wayבַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃ba.Da.rekhH1870while he was atBeth-ekedH1044of the shepherdsהָרֹעִ֖יםha.ro.'ImH7462,

13Jehuוְיֵה֗וּאve.ye.Hu'H3058metמָצָא֙ma.Tza'H4672therelativesאֲחֵי֙'a.CheiH251of Ahaziahאֲחַזְיָ֣הוּ'a.chaz.Ya.huH274kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063and saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whoמִ֣יmiH4310are you?” And theyansweredוַיֹּאמְר֗וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “We are therelativesאֲחֵ֤י'a.CheiH251of Ahaziahאֲחַזְיָ֙הוּ֙'a.chaz.Ya.huH274;and we have comeוַנֵּ֛רֶדva.Ne.redH3381downH3381to greetלִשְׁל֥וֹםlish.LomH7965the sonsבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121of the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428and the sonsוּבְנֵ֥יu.ve.NeiH1121of the queenH1377motherH1377.”

14He saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Takeתִּפְשׂ֣וּםtif.SumH8610them aliveחַיִּ֔יםchai.YimH2416.”So they tookוַֽיִּתְפְּשׂ֖וּםvai.yit.pe.SumH8610them aliveחַיִּ֑יםchai.YimH2416and killedוַֽיִּשְׁחָט֞וּםvai.yish.cha.TumH7819them at the pitבּ֣וֹרBorH953of Beth-ekedH1044,forty-twoאַרְבָּעִ֤ים וּשְׁנַ֙יִם֙'ar.ba.'Im u.she.Na.yimH705 H8147menאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376;and he leftהִשְׁאִ֥ירhish.'IrH7604noneוְלֹֽא־ אִ֖ישׁve.lo'- 'ishH3808 H376of them.

15Now when he had departedוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980from thereמִשָּׁ֡םmi.ShamH8033, hemetוַיִּמְצָ֣אvai.yim.Tza'H4672Jehonadabיְהוֹנָדָב֩ye.ho.na.DavH3082the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121ofRechabרֵכָ֨בre.KhavH7394comingto meetלִקְרָאת֜וֹlik.ra.ToH7122him; and hegreetedוַֽיְבָרְכֵ֗הוּvay.va.re.Khe.huH1288him and saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Is your heartלְבָבְךָ֣le.va.ve.KhaH3824rightיָשָׁ֗רya.SharH3477,as my heartלְבָבִי֙le.va.ViH3824is with your heartלְבָבֶ֔ךָle.va.Ve.khaH3824?”And Jehonadabיְהוֹנָדָ֥בye.ho.na.DavH3082answeredוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “It is.” Jehu said, “If it is,giveתְּנָ֣הte.NahH5414meyour handיָדֶ֑ךָya.De.khaH3027.”And he gaveוַיִּתֵּ֣ןvai.yi.TenH5414him his handיָד֔וֹya.DoH3027,and he tookוַיַּעֲלֵ֥הוּvai.ya.'a.Le.huH5927him up to him into the chariotהַמֶּרְכָּבָֽה׃ha.mer.ka.VahH4818.

16He saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Comeלְכָ֣הle.KhahH1980with me andseeוּרְאֵ֖הu.re.'EhH7200my zealבְּקִנְאָתִ֣יbe.kin.'a.TiH7068for the Lordלַיהוָ֑הla.Yah.wehH3068.” Sohe made him rideוַיַּרְכִּ֥בוּvai.yar.Ki.vuH7392in his chariotבְּרִכְבּֽוֹ׃be.rikh.BoH7393.

17When he cameוַיָּבֹא֙vai.ya.Vo'H935to Samariaשֹֽׁמְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111, hekilledוַ֠יַּךְVai.yakhH5221allכָּל־kol-H3605who remainedהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֧יםha.nish.'a.RimH7604to Ahabלְאַחְאָ֛בle.'ach.'AvH256in Samariaבְּשֹׁמְר֖וֹןbe.sho.me.RonH8111,untilעַד־'ad-H5704he had destroyedהִשְׁמִיד֑וֹhish.mi.DoH8045him,according to the wordכִּדְבַ֣רkid.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834He spokeדִּבֶּ֖רdi.BerH1696to Elijahאֵלִיָּֽהוּ׃ פ'e.li.Ya.huH452.

Jehu Destroys Baal Worshipers

18Then Jehuיֵהוּא֙ye.Hu'H3058gatheredוַיִּקְבֹּ֤ץvai.yik.BotzH6908allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Ahabאַחְאָ֕ב'ach.'AvH256servedעָבַ֥ד'a.VadH5647Baalהַבַּ֖עַלha.Ba.'alH1168a littleמְעָ֑טme.'AtH4592;Jehuיֵה֖וּאye.Hu'H3058will serveיַעַבְדֶ֥נּוּya.'av.De.nuH5647him muchהַרְבֵּֽה׃har.BehH7235.

19Nowוְעַתָּ֣הve.'a.TahH6258,summonקִרְא֨וּkir.'UH7121allכָל־khol-H3605the prophetsנְבִיאֵ֣יne.vi.'EiH5030of Baalהַבַּ֡עַלha.Ba.'alH1168,allכָּל־kol-H3605his worshipersעֹבְדָ֣יו'oe.DavH5647and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605his priestsכֹּהֲנָיו֩ko.ha.NavH3548;let noאַל־'al-H408oneאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376be missingיִפָּקֵ֗דyi.pa.KedH6485,for I have a greatגָּד֥וֹלga.DolH1419sacrificeזֶ֨בַחZe.vachH2077for Baalלַבַּ֔עַלla.Ba.'alH1168;whoeverכֹּ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־kol 'a.Sher-H3605 H834is missingיִפָּקֵ֖דyi.pa.KedH6485shall not liveיִֽחְיֶ֑הyich.YehH2421.”But Jehuוְיֵהוּא֙ve.ye.Hu'H3058didעָשָׂ֣ה'a.SahH6213it incunningבְעָקְבָּ֔הve.'a.ke.BahH6122,soלְמַ֥עַןle.Ma.'anH4616that he might destroyהַאֲבִ֖ידha.'a.VidH6the worshipersעֹבְדֵ֥י'oe.DeiH5647of Baalהַבָּֽעַל׃ha.Ba.'alH1168.

20And Jehuיֵה֗וּאye.Hu'H3058saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Sanctifyקַדְּשׁ֧וּka.de.ShuH6942a solemnH6116assemblyעֲצָרָ֛ה'a.tza.RahH6116for Baalלַבַּ֖עַלla.Ba.'alH1168.” Andthey proclaimedוַיִּקְרָֽאוּ׃vai.yik.Ra.'uH7121it.

21Then Jehuיֵהוּא֙ye.Hu'H3058sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971throughoutבְּכָל־be.kholH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478and allכָּל־kol-H3605the worshipersעֹבְדֵ֣י'oe.DeiH5647of Baalהַבַּ֔עַלha.Ba.'alH1168cameוַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.'uH935,so that there was not a manאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376leftנִשְׁאַ֥רnish.'ArH7604whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834did not comeבָ֑אVa'H935.And when they wentוַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.'uH935intothe houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Baalהַבַּ֔עַלha.Ba.'alH1168,the houseבֵית־veit-H1004of Baalהַבַּ֖עַלha.Ba.'alH1168was filledוַיִּמָּלֵ֥אvai.yi.ma.Le'H4390from oneH6310endH6310to the otherH6310.

22He saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the one whoלַֽאֲשֶׁר֙la.'a.SherH834wasin chargeעַל־'al-H5921of the wardrobeהַמֶּלְתָּחָ֔הha.mel.ta.ChahH4458, “Bringהוֹצֵ֣אho.Tze'H3318out garmentsלְב֔וּשׁle.VushH3830for allלְכֹ֖לle.KholH3605the worshipersעֹבְדֵ֣י'oe.DeiH5647of Baalהַבָּ֑עַלha.Ba.'alH1168.”So he broughtוַיֹּצֵ֥אvai.yo.Tze'H3318out garmentsהַמַּלְבּֽוּשׁ׃ha.mal.BushH4403for them.

23Jehuיֵה֛וּאye.Hu'H3058wentוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.Vo'H935into the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Baalהַבָּ֑עַלha.Ba.'alH1168with Jehonadabוִיהוֹנָדָ֥בvi.ho.na.DavH3082the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Rechabרֵכָ֖בre.KhavH7394;and he saidוַיֹּ֜אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the worshipersלְעֹבְדֵ֣יle.'oe.DeiH5647of Baalהַבַּ֗עַלha.Ba.'alH1168, “Searchחַפְּשׂ֤וּcha.pe.SuH2664and seeוּרְאוּ֙u.re.'UH7200that thereיֶשׁ־yesh-H3426is hereפֹּ֤הpohH6311with you noneפֶּן־pen-H6435of the servantsמֵעַבְדֵ֣יme.'av.DeiH5650of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,but onlyלְבַדָּֽם׃le.va.DamH905the worshipersעֹבְדֵ֥י'oe.DeiH5647of Baalהַבַּ֖עַלha.Ba.'alH1168.”

24Then they wentוַיָּבֹ֕אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935in to offerלַעֲשׂ֖וֹתla.'a.SotH6213sacrificesזְבָחִ֣יםze.va.ChimH2077and burntוְעֹל֑וֹתve.'o.LotH5930offeringsH5930.Now Jehuוְיֵה֞וּאve.ye.Hu'H3058had stationedשָׂם־som-H7760for himself eightyשְׁמֹנִ֣יםshe.mo.NimH8084menאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376outsideבַחוּץ֙va.ChutzH2351,and he had saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “The oneH376whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834permits anyמִן־min-H4480of the menהָאִ֤ישׁha.'IshH376whomאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834I bringמֵבִ֣יאme.Vi'H935into your handsיְדֵיכֶ֔םye.dei.KhemH3027to escapeיִמָּלֵט֙yi.ma.LetH4422shall give up his lifeH5315in exchangeתַּ֥חַתTa.chatH8478.”

25Then it cameוַיְהִ֞יvay.HiH1961about, as soon as he had finishedכְּכַלֹּת֣וֹ׀ke.kha.lo.ToH3615offeringלַעֲשׂ֣וֹתla.'a.SotH6213the burntהָעֹלָ֗הha.'o.LahH5930offeringH5930,that Jehuיֵ֠הוּאYe.hu'H3058saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to theguardלָרָצִ֨יםla.ra.TzimH7323and to the royalH7991officersוְלַשָּׁלִשִׁ֜יםve.la.sha.li.ShimH7991, “Goבֹּ֤אוּBo.'uH935in,killהַכּוּם֙ha.KumH5221them; let noneאִ֣ישׁ אַל־'ish 'al-H376 H408comeיֵצֵ֔אye.Tze'H3318out.” And theykilledוַיַּכּ֖וּםvai.ya.KumH5221them with the edgeלְפִי־le.fi-H6310of the swordחָ֑רֶבCha.revH2719; and theguardהָֽרָצִים֙ha.ra.TzimH7323and the royalH7991officersוְהַשָּׁ֣לִשִׁ֔יםve.ha.Sha.li.ShimH7991threwוַיַּשְׁלִ֗כוּvai.yash.Li.khuH7993themout, and wentוַיֵּלְכ֖וּvai.ye.le.KhuH1980to theinnerH5892roomH5892of the houseבֵּית־beit-H1004of Baalהַבָּֽעַל׃ha.Ba.'alH1168.

26They broughtוַיֹּצִ֛אוּvai.yo.Tzi.'uH3318out the sacredpillarsמַצְּב֥וֹתma.tze.VotH4676of the houseבֵּית־beit-H1004of Baalהַבַּ֖עַלha.Ba.'alH1168and burnedוַֽיִּשְׂרְפֽוּהָ׃Vai.yis.re.Fu.haH8313them.
