2Evenתְּמ֣וֹלte.MolH1571 H8543in times pastשִׁלְשׁ֗וֹםshil.ShomH8032 H1571,while Saulשָׁא֣וּלsha.'UlH7586wasבִּהְי֣וֹתbih.YotH1961kingמֶ֔לֶךְMe.lekhH4428,youאַתָּ֛ה'a.TahH859werethe one who ledהַמּוֹצִ֥יאha.mo.Tzi'H3318Israel outיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478and brought them backוְהַמֵּבִ֖יאve.ha.me.Vi'H935אֶת־'et-H853.And the LORDיְהוָ֨הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559, ‘Youאַתָּ֨ה'a.TahH859will shepherdתִרְעֶ֤הtir.'EhH7462אֶת־'et-H853My peopleעַמִּי֙'a.MiH5971אֶת־'et-H853Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and youוְאַתָּה֙ve.'a.TahH859will beתִּהְיֶ֣הtih.YehH1961rulerנָגִ֔ידna.GidH5057overעַ֖ל'alH5921themעַמִּ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃'a.Mi Yis.ra.'ElH5971 H3478.’”

3So allכָּל־kol-H3605the eldersזִקְנֵ֨יzik.NeiH2205of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֤לYis.ra.'ElH3478cameוַ֠יָּבֹאוּVai.ya.vo.'uH935toאֶל־'el-H413the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428at Hebronחֶבְר֔וֹנָהchev.Ro.nahH2275, whereבְּחֶבְר֖וֹןbe.chev.RonH2275Davidדָּוִ֥ידda.VidH1732madeוַיִּכְרֹת֩vai.yikh.RotH3772a covenantבְּרִ֛יתbe.RitH1285with thembeforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the LORDיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068.And they anointedוַיִּמְשְׁח֨וּvai.yim.she.ChuH4886אֶת־'et-H853himדָּוִ֤ידda.VidH1732kingלְמֶ֙לֶךְ֙le.Me.lekhH4428overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,according to the wordכִּדְבַ֥רkid.VarH1697of the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068throughבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027Samuelשְׁמוּאֵֽל׃ סshe.mu.'ElH8050.

4Then Davidדָּוִ֧ידda.VidH1732and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the Israelitesיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478marchedוַיֵּ֨לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֖םye.ru.sha.LimH3389(that isהִ֣יאhi'H1931,Jebusיְב֑וּסye.VusH2982),whereוְשָׁם֙ve.ShamH8033the Jebusitesהַיְבוּסִ֔יhay.vu.SiH2983inhabitedיֹשְׁבֵ֖יyo.she.VeiH3427the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.

5The peopleיֹשְׁבֵ֤יyo.she.VeiH3427of Jebusיְבוּס֙ye.VusH2982saidוַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559to Davidלְדָוִ֔ידle.da.VidH1732, “You will neverלֹ֥אlo'H3808get inתָב֖וֹאta.Vo'H935hereהֵ֑נָּהHe.nahH2008.”Nevertheless, Davidדָּוִיד֙da.VidH1732אֶת־'et-H853capturedוַיִּלְכֹּ֤דvai.yil.KodH3920the fortressמְצֻדַ֣תme.tzu.DatH4686of Zionצִיּ֔וֹןtzi.YonH6726(that isהִ֖יאhi'H1931,the Cityעִ֥יר'irH5892of Davidדָּוִֽיד׃da.VidH1732).

6Now Davidדָּוִ֔ידda.VidH1732had saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whoeverכָּל־kol-H3605is the firstבָּרִ֣אשׁוֹנָ֔הba.Ri.sho.NahH7223to strike downמַכֵּ֤הma.KehH5221a Jebusiteיְבוּסִי֙ye.vu.SiH2983will becomeיִהְיֶ֥הyih.YehH1961chiefוּלְשָׂ֑רu.le.SarH8269commanderלְרֹ֖אשׁle.RoshH7218.”And Joabיוֹאָ֥בyo.'AvH3097sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zeruiahצְרוּיָ֖הtze.ru.YahH6870went upוַיַּ֧עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927firstבָּרִאשׁוֹנָ֛הba.ri.sho.NahH7223,and he becameוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961the chiefלְרֹֽאשׁ׃le.RoshH7218.

7So Davidדָּוִ֖ידda.VidH1732took up residenceוַיֵּ֥שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427in the fortressבַּמְצָ֑דbam.TzadH4679;that is whyעַל־ כֵּ֥ן'al- kenH5921 H3651it was calledקָרְאוּ־ka.re.'u-H7121the Cityעִ֥יר'irH5892of Davidדָּוִֽיד׃da.VidH1732.

8He built upוַיִּ֤בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129the cityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892around itמִסָּבִ֔יבmi.sa.VivH5439,fromמִן־min-H4480the supporting terracesהַמִּלּ֖וֹאha.mi.Lo'H4407toוְעַד־ve.'ad-H5704the surrounding wallהַסָּבִ֑יבha.sa.VivH5439,while Joabוְיוֹאָ֕בve.yo.'AvH3097restoredיְחַיֶּ֖הye.chai.YehH2421אֶת־'et-H853the restשְׁאָ֥רshe.'ArH7605of the cityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892.

9And Davidדָּוִ֖ידda.VidH1732becameוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980greaterהָל֣וֹךְha.LokhH1980and greaterוְגָד֑וֹלve.ga.DolH1431,for the LORDוַיהוָ֥הva.Yah.wehH3068of Hostsצְבָא֖וֹתtze.va.'otH6635was with himעִמּֽוֹ׃ פi.MoH5973.
