1Then all Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478gatheredוַיִּקָּבְצ֧וּvai.yi.ka.ve.TzuH6908themselves to Davidדָּוִ֖ידda.VidH1732unto Hebronחֶבְר֣וֹנָהchev.Ro.nahH2275,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, Behold, we arethy boneעַצְמְךָ֥'atz.me.KhaH6106and thy fleshוּֽבְשָׂרְךָ֖u.ve.sa.re.KhaH1320.

2And moreover in timeתְּמ֣וֹלte.MolH8543pastשִׁלְשׁ֗וֹםshil.ShomH8032,even when Saulשָׁא֣וּלsha.'UlH7586was kingמֶ֔לֶךְMe.lekhH4428, thou wasthe that leddest outהַמּוֹצִ֥יאha.mo.Tzi'H3318and broughtest inוְהַמֵּבִ֖יאve.ha.me.Vi'H935Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478:and the Lordיְהוָ֨הYah.wehH3068thy Godאֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559unto thee, Thou shalt feedתִרְעֶ֤הtir.'EhH7462my peopleH5971Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and thou shalt be rulerנָגִ֔ידna.GidH5057over my peopleH1571Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

3Therefore cameוַ֠יָּבֹאוּVai.ya.vo.'uH935all the eldersזִקְנֵ֨יzik.NeiH2205of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֤לYis.ra.'ElH3478to the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428to Hebronחֶבְר֔וֹנָהchev.Ro.nahH2275;and Davidדָּוִ֥ידda.VidH1732madeוַיִּכְרֹת֩vai.yikh.RotH3772a covenantבְּרִ֛יתbe.RitH1285with them in Hebronבְּחֶבְר֖וֹןbe.chev.RonH2275beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068;and they anointedוַיִּמְשְׁח֨וּvai.yim.she.ChuH4886Davidדָּוִ֤ידda.VidH1732kingלְמֶ֙לֶךְ֙le.Me.lekhH4428over Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,according to the wordכִּדְבַ֥רkid.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068byבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027Samuelשְׁמוּאֵֽל׃ סshe.mu.'ElH8050.

4And Davidדָּוִ֧ידda.VidH1732and all Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478wentH3212to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֖םye.ru.sha.LimH3389, which isJebusיְב֑וּסye.VusH2982;where the Jebusitesהַיְבוּסִ֔יhay.vu.SiH2983were,the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֖יyo.she.VeiH3427of the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.

5And the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֤יyo.she.VeiH3427of Jebusיְבוּס֙ye.VusH2982saidוַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559to Davidלְדָוִ֔ידle.da.VidH1732,Thou shalt not comeתָב֖וֹאta.Vo'H935hither. Nevertheless Davidדָּוִיד֙da.VidH1732tookוַיִּלְכֹּ֤דvai.yil.KodH3920the castleמְצֻדַ֣תme.tzu.DatH4686of Zionצִיּ֔וֹןtzi.YonH6726, which isthe cityעִ֥יר'irH5892of Davidדָּוִֽיד׃da.VidH1732.

6And Davidדָּוִ֔ידda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559,Whosoever smitethמַכֵּ֤הma.KehH5221the Jebusitesיְבוּסִי֙ye.vu.SiH2983firstבָּרִ֣אשׁוֹנָ֔הba.Ri.sho.NahH7223shall be chiefלְרֹ֖אשׁle.RoshH7218and captainוּלְשָׂ֑רu.le.SarH8269.So Joabיוֹאָ֥בyo.'AvH3097the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zeruiahצְרוּיָ֖הtze.ru.YahH6870wentH5927firstבָּרִאשׁוֹנָ֛הba.ri.sho.NahH7223upH5927,and was chiefלְרֹֽאשׁ׃le.RoshH7218.

7And Davidדָּוִ֖ידda.VidH1732dweltוַיֵּ֥שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427in the castleבַּמְצָ֑דbam.TzadH4679;therefore they calledקָרְאוּ־ka.re.'u-H7121it the cityעִ֥יר'irH5892of Davidדָּוִֽיד׃da.VidH1732.

8And he builtוַיִּ֤בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129the cityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892round aboutמִסָּבִ֔יבmi.sa.VivH5439,even from Milloהַמִּלּ֖וֹאha.mi.Lo'H4407round aboutהַסָּבִ֑יבha.sa.VivH5439:and Joabוְיוֹאָ֕בve.yo.'AvH3097repairedיְחַיֶּ֖הye.chai.YehH2421the restשְׁאָ֥רshe.'ArH7605of the cityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892.

9So Davidדָּוִ֖ידda.VidH1732waxedH3212greaterH1980and greaterH1419:for the Lordוַיהוָ֥הva.Yah.wehH3068of hostsצְבָא֖וֹתtze.va.'otH6635was with him.
