1 Kings 16

American Standard Version

1And the wordH1697 of Jehovah came to JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of HananiH2607 against BaashaH1201, sayingH559, 2Forasmuch as I exaltedH7311 thee out of the dustH6083, and madeH5414 thee princeH5057 over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and thou hast walked in the wayH1870 of JeroboamH3379, and hast madeH5414 my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398, to provokeH3707 me to angerH3707 with their sinsH2398; 3behold, I will utterly sweep away BaashaH1201 and his houseH1004; and I will makeH5414 thy houseH1004 like the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028. 4Him that dieth of BaashaH1201 in the cityH5892 shall the dogsH3611 eatH398; and him that dieth of his in the fieldH7704 shall the birdsH5775 of the heavensH8064 eatH398.

5Now the restH3499 of the acts of BaashaH1201, and what he did, and his might, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 6And BaashaH1201 slept with his fathersH1, and was buriedH6912 in TirzahH8656; and ElahH425 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead. 7And moreover by the prophetH5030 JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of HananiH2607 came the wordH1697 of Jehovah against BaashaH1201, and against his houseH1004, both because of all the evilH7451 that he did in the sight of Jehovah, to provokeH3707 him to angerH3707 with the workH4639 of his handsH3027, in being like the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, and because he smote him.

8In the twentyH6242 and sixth yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began ElahH425 the sonH1121 of BaashaH1201 to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478 in TirzahH8656, and reignedH4427 two yearsH8141. 9And his servantH5650 ZimriH2174, captain of halfH4276 his chariotsH7393, conspired against him. Now he was in TirzahH8656, drinkingH8354 himself drunkH8354 in the houseH1004 of Arza, who was over the householdH1004 in TirzahH8656: 10and ZimriH2174 wentH935 in and smote him, and killed him, in the twentyH6242 and seventh yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and reignedH4427 in his stead. 11And it came to pass, when he began to reignH4427, as soon as he satH3427 on his throneH3678, that he smote all the houseH1004 of BaashaH1201: he leftH7604 him not a single man-child, neither of his kinsfolks, nor of his friendsH7453. 12Thus did ZimriH2174 destroyH8045 all the houseH1004 of BaashaH1201, according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah, which he spake against BaashaH1201 by JehuH3058 the prophetH5030, 13for all the sinsH2398 of BaashaH1201, and the sinsH2398 of ElahH425 his sonH1121, which they sinnedH2398, and wherewith they made IsraelH3478 to sinH2398, to provokeH3707 Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, to angerH3707 with their vanitiesH1892. 14Now the restH3499 of the acts of ElahH425, and all that he did, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478?

15In the twentyH6242 and seventh yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 did ZimriH2174 reignH4427 sevenH7651 daysH3117 in TirzahH8656. Now the peopleH5971 were encampedH2583 against GibbethonH1405, which belonged to the PhilistinesH6430. 16And the peopleH5971 that were encampedH2583 heardH8085 sayH559, ZimriH2174 hath conspired, and hath alsoH1571 smitten the kingH4428: wherefore all IsraelH3478 made OmriH6018, the captain of the hostH6635, kingH4428 over IsraelH3478 that dayH3117 in the campH4264. 17And OmriH6018 wentH5927 up from GibbethonH1405, and all IsraelH3478 with him, and they besieged TirzahH8656. 18And it cameH935 to pass, when ZimriH2174 sawH7200 that the cityH5892 wasH1961 takenH3920, that he wentH935 into the castle of the king’sH4428 houseH1004, and burnt the king’sH4428 houseH1004 over him with fireH784, and diedH4191, 19for his sinsH2398 which he sinnedH2398 in doing that which was evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, in walking in the wayH1870 of JeroboamH3379, and in his sinH2398 which he did, to makeH6213 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398. 20Now the restH3499 of the acts of ZimriH2174, and his treasonH7195 that he wrought, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478?

21ThenH227 wereH1961 the peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478 dividedH2505 into two parts: halfH2677 of the peopleH5971 followed TibniH8402 the sonH1121 of GinathH1527, to make him kingH4427; and halfH2677 followed OmriH6018. 22But the peopleH5971 that followed OmriH6018 prevailedH2388 against the peopleH5971 that followed TibniH8402 the sonH1121 of GinathH1527: so TibniH8402 diedH4191, and OmriH6018 reignedH4427. 23In the thirtyH7970 and first yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began OmriH6018 to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478, and reignedH4427 twelve yearsH8141: sixH8337 yearsH8141 reignedH4427 he in TirzahH8656. 24And he boughtH7069 the hillH2022 SamariaH8111 of ShemerH8106 for two talentsH3603 of silverH3701; and he builtH1129 on the hillH2022, and calledH7121 the nameH8034 of the cityH5892 which he builtH1129, after the nameH8034 of ShemerH8106, the owner of the hillH2022, SamariaH8111. 25And OmriH6018 did that which was evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, and dealt wickedly above all that were before him. 26For he walked in all the wayH1870 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, and in his sinsH2398 wherewith he made IsraelH3478 to sinH2398, to provokeH3707 Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, to angerH3707 with their vanitiesH1892. 27Now the restH3499 of the acts of OmriH6018 which he did, and his might that he showed, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 28So OmriH6018 slept with his fathersH1, and was buriedH6912 in SamariaH8111; and AhabH256 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.

29And in the thirtyH7970 and eighth yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began AhabH256 the sonH1121 of OmriH6018 to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478: and AhabH256 the sonH1121 of OmriH6018 reignedH4427 over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111 twentyH6242 and twoH8147 yearsH8141. 30And AhabH256 the sonH1121 of OmriH6018 did that which was evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah above all that were before him. 31And it came to pass, as if it had beenH1961 a light thingH7043 for him to walk in the sinsH2403 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, that he tookH3947 to wifeH802 JezebelH348 the daughterH1323 of Ethbaal kingH4428 of the SidoniansH6722, and went and servedH5647 BaalH1168, and worshipped him. 32And he reared up an altarH4196 for BaalH1168 in the houseH1004 of BaalH1168, which he had builtH1129 in SamariaH8111. 33And AhabH256 madeH6213 the AsherahH842; and AhabH256 did yet more to provokeH3707 Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, to angerH3707 than all the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478 that were before him. 34In his daysH3117 did Hiel the Beth-elite buildH1129 JerichoH3405: he laid the foundation thereof with the loss of AbiramH48 his first-born, and setH5324 up the gates thereof with the loss of his youngestH6810 sonH1121 SegubH7687, according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah, which he spake by JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126.
