1 Kings 16
Revised Version 1895
1And the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of HananiH2607 againstH5921 BaashaH1201, sayingH559, 2Forasmuch as I exaltedH7311 thee outH4480 of the dustH6083, and madeH5414 thee princeH5057 over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478; and thou hast walked in the wayH1870 of JeroboamH3379, and hast madeH5414 my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398, to provokeH3707 meH5414 to angerH3707 with their sinsH2398; 3beholdH2005, I will utterly sweep awayH310 BaashaH1201 and his houseH1004; and I will makeH5414 thy houseH1004 like the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028. 4Him that dieth of BaashaH1201 in the cityH5892 shall the dogsH3611 eatH398; and him that dieth of his in the fieldH7704 shall the fowls of the air eatH398. 5NowH3117 the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of BaashaH1201, and whatH834 he didH6213, and his might, are they notH3808 writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 6And BaashaH1201 sleptH7901 with his fathersH1, and was buriedH6912 in TirzahH8656; and ElahH425 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his steadH8478. 7And moreoverH1571 by the handH3027 of the prophetH5030 JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of HananiH2607 cameH1961 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 againstH5921 BaashaH1201, and againstH5921 his houseH1004, bothH1571 becauseH5921 of allH3605 the evilH7451 that he didH6213 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, to provokeH3707 him to angerH3707 with the workH4639 of his handsH3027, in beingH1961 like the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, and becauseH5921 he smoteH5221 him. 8In the twentyH6242 and sixth yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began ElahH425 the sonH1121 of BaashaH1201 to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478 in TirzahH8656, and reignedH4427 two yearsH8141. 9And his servantH5650 ZimriH2174, captainH8269 of halfH4276 his chariotsH7393, conspiredH7194 againstH5921 him: now he was in TirzahH8656, drinkingH8354 himselfH1931 drunkH8354 in the houseH1004 of ArzaH777, whichH834 was over the householdH1004 in TirzahH8656: 10and ZimriH2174 wentH935 in and smoteH5221 him, and killedH5221 him, in the twentyH6242 and seventhH7651 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and reignedH4427 in his steadH8478. 11And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when he beganH1961 to reignH4427, as soon as he satH3427 on his throneH3678, that he smoteH5221 allH3605 the houseH1004 of BaashaH1201: he leftH7604 him notH3808 a single manH3605 child, neitherH3808 of his kinsfolks, norH3808 of his friendsH7453. 12Thus didH834 ZimriH2174 destroyH8045 allH3605 the houseH1004 of BaashaH1201, accordingH413 to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, whichH834 he spake againstH413 BaashaH1201 by JehuH3058 the prophetH5030, 13for allH3605 the sinsH2398 of BaashaH1201, and the sinsH2398 of ElahH425 his sonH1121, whichH834 they sinnedH2398, and wherewith they madeH3605 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398, to provokeH3707 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, to angerH3707 with their vanitiesH1892. 14NowH3117 the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of ElahH425, and allH3605 that he didH6213, are they notH3808 writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 15In the twentyH6242 and seventhH7651 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 didH834 ZimriH2174 reignH4427 sevenH7651 daysH3117 in TirzahH8656. NowH3117 the peopleH5971 were encampedH2583 againstH5921 GibbethonH1405, whichH834 belonged to the PhilistinesH6430. 16And the peopleH5971 that were encampedH2583 heardH8085 sayH559, ZimriH2174 hath conspiredH7194, and hath also smittenH5221 the kingH4428: wherefore allH3605 IsraelH3478 madeH7194 OmriH6018, the captainH8269 of the hostH6635, kingH4428 over IsraelH3478 that dayH3117 in the campH4264. 17And OmriH6018 wentH5927 upH5927 from GibbethonH1405, and allH3605 IsraelH3478 with him, and they besieged TirzahH8656. 18And it cameH935 to passH935, when ZimriH2174 sawH7200 that the cityH5892 was takenH3920, that he wentH935 intoH413 the castleH759 of the king’sH4428 houseH1004, and burntH8313 the king’sH4428 houseH1004 over him with fireH784, and diedH4191, 19for his sinsH2398 whichH834 he sinnedH2398 in doingH6213 that whichH834 was evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, in walking in the wayH1870 of JeroboamH3379, and in his sinH2398 whichH834 he didH6213, to makeH6213 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398. 20NowH3117 the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of ZimriH2174, and his treasonH7195 that he wrought, are they notH3808 writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 21Then were the peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478 dividedH2505 intoH1961 twoH2677 partsH2677: halfH2677 of the peopleH5971 followedH310 TibniH8402 the sonH1121 of GinathH1527, to make him kingH4427; and halfH2677 followedH310 OmriH6018. 22But the peopleH5971 that followedH310 OmriH6018 prevailedH2388 againstH854 the peopleH5971 that followedH310 TibniH8402 the sonH1121 of GinathH1527: soH834 TibniH8402 diedH4191, and OmriH6018 reignedH4427. 23In the thirtyH7970 and firstH259 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began OmriH6018 to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478, and reignedH4427 twelveH6240 yearsH8141: sixH8337 yearsH8141 reignedH4427 he in TirzahH8656. 24And he boughtH7069 the hillH2022 SamariaH8111 of ShemerH8106 for two talentsH3603 of silverH3701; and he builtH1129 on the hillH2022, and calledH7121 the nameH8034 of the cityH5892 whichH834 he builtH1129, afterH5921 the nameH8034 of ShemerH8106, the ownerH113 of the hillH2022, SamariaH8111. 25And OmriH6018 didH6213 that whichH834 was evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, and dealt wickedlyH7451 aboveH6440 allH3605 that were beforeH6440 him. 26For he walked in allH3605 the wayH1870 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, and in his sinsH2398 wherewith he madeH3605 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398, to provokeH3707 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, to angerH3707 with their vanitiesH1892. 27NowH3117 the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of OmriH6018 whichH834 he didH6213, and his might that he shewed, are they notH3808 writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 28So OmriH6018 sleptH7901 with his fathersH1, and was buriedH6912 in SamariaH8111: and AhabH256 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his steadH8478. 29And in the thirtyH7970 and eighthH8083 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began AhabH256 the sonH1121 of OmriH6018 to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478: and AhabH256 the sonH1121 of OmriH6018 reignedH4427 over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111 twentyH6242 and twoH8147 yearsH8141. 30And AhabH256 the sonH1121 of OmriH6018 didH6213 that whichH834 was evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068 aboveH6440 allH3605 that were beforeH6440 him. 31And it cameH1961 to passH1961, as ifH7043 it had been a lightH7043 thingH7043 for him to walk in the sinsH2403 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, that he tookH3947 to wifeH802 JezebelH348 the daughterH1323 of EthbaalH856 kingH4428 of the Zidonians, and wentH1961 and servedH5647 BaalH1168, and worshipped him. 32And he reared upH6965 an altarH4196 for BaalH1168 in the houseH1004 of BaalH1168, whichH834 he had builtH1129 in SamariaH8111. 33And AhabH256 madeH6213 the AsherahH842; and AhabH256 didH6213 yet moreH3254 to provokeH3707 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, to angerH3707 thanH4428 allH3605 the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478 that were beforeH6440 him. 34In his daysH3117 didH834 HielH2419 the Beth-elite buildH1129 JerichoH3405: he laidH3245 the foundationH3245 thereof with the loss of AbiramH48 his firstbornH1060, and setH5324 upH5324 the gatesH1817 thereof with the loss of his youngestH6810 sonH1121 SegubH7687; accordingH3027 to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, whichH834 he spake by the handH3027 of JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126.
