Jehu’s Prophecy against Baasha
1Then the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 toH413 JehuH3058 sonH1121 of HananiH2607 againstH5921 BaashaH1201, sayingH559: 2“EvenH3282 thoughH834 I lifted youH7311 outH4480 of the dustH6083 and madeH5414 you rulerH5057 overH5921 My peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, you have walkedH1980 in the wayH1870 of JeroboamH3379 and have caused My peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398 and to provoke Me to angerH3707 by their sinsH2403. 3So nowH2005 I will consumeH1197 BaashaH1201 and his houseH1004, and I will makeH5414 your houseH1004 like thatH1004 of JeroboamH3379 sonH1121 of NebatH5028:
5As for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of BaashaH1201, along with his accomplishmentsH834H6213 and mightH1369, are theyH1992 notH3808 writtenH3789 inH5921 the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 6And BaashaH1201 restedH7901 withH5973 his fathersH1 and was buriedH6912 in TirzahH8656, and his sonH1121 ElahH425 reignedH4427 in his placeH8478.
7MoreoverH1571, the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 throughH3027 the prophetH5030 JehuH3058 sonH1121 of HananiH2607 againstH413 BaashaH1201 and his houseH1004, because ofH5921 allH3605 the evilH7451 he had doneH6213 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, provoking Him to angerH3707 with the workH4639 of his handsH3027 and becomingH1961 like the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, and alsoH5921 becauseH834 Baasha had struck downH5221 the house of Jeroboam.
Elah Reigns in Israel
8In the twenty-sixthH6242H8337 yearH8141 of Asa’sH609 reignH4428 over JudahH3063, ElahH425 sonH1121 of BaashaH1201 became kingH4427 ofH5921 IsraelH3478, and he reigned in TirzahH8656 two yearsH8141.
9However, while ElahH1931 was in TirzahH8656 getting drunkH8354H7910 in the houseH1004 of ArzaH777 the stewardH5921 of his householdH1004 there, Elah’s servantH5650 ZimriH2174, the commanderH8269 of halfH4276 his chariotsH7393, conspiredH7194 against himH5921. 10So in the twenty-seventhH6242H7651 yearH8141 of Asa’sH609 reignH4428 over JudahH3063, ZimriH2174 went inH935, struck Elah downH5221, and killed himH4191. And Zimri reignedH4427 in his placeH8478.
11As soon asH1961 Zimri began to reignH4427 and was seatedH3427 onH5921 the throneH3678, he struck downH5221 the entireH3605 householdH1004 of BaashaH1201. He did notH3808 leaveH7604 a single maleH8366H7023, whether a kinsmanH1350 or friendH7453. 12So ZimriH2174 destroyedH8045 the entireH3605 householdH1004 of BaashaH1201, according to the wordH1697 thatH834 the LORDH3068 had spokenH1696 againstH413 BaashaH1201 throughH3027 JehuH3058 the prophetH5030. 13This happened because ofH413 allH3605 the sinsH2403 BaashaH1201 and his sonH1121 ElahH425 had committedH2398 and had caused IsraelH3478 to commitH2398, provokingH3707 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of Israel, to angerH3478 with their worthless idolsH1892.
14As for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of ElahH425, along with allH3605 his accomplishmentsH834H6213, are theyH1992 notH3808 writtenH3789 inH5921 the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478?
Zimri Reigns in Israel
15In the twenty-seventhH6242H7651H8141 yearH8141 of Asa’sH609 reignH4428 over JudahH3063, ZimriH2174 reignedH4427 in TirzahH8656 for sevenH7651 daysH3117. Now the troopsH5971 were encampedH2583 againstH5921 GibbethonH1405 of the PhilistinesH6430, 16and the peopleH5971 in the campH2583H559 heardH8085 that ZimriH2174 had conspiredH7194 against the kingH4428 andH1571 struck him downH5221. So there in the campH4264 that veryH1931 dayH3117, allH3605 IsraelH3478 proclaimed OmriH6018, the commanderH8269 of the armyH6635, kingH4427 overH5921 IsraelH3478.
17Then OmriH6018 andH5973 allH3605 the IsraelitesH3478 marched upH5927 from GibbethonH1405 and besiegedH6696H5921 TirzahH8656. 18When ZimriH2174 sawH7200 thatH3588 the cityH5892 was capturedH3920, he enteredH935H413 the citadelH759 of the royalH4428 palaceH1004 and burned it downH8313H784 upon himselfH5921. So he diedH4191 19because ofH5921 the sinsH2403 he had committedH2398, doingH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068 and followingH1980 the exampleH1870 of JeroboamH3379 and the sinH2403 he had committedH6213 and had caused IsraelH3478 to commitH2398.
20As for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of ZimriH2174 and the treasonH7195 he committedH7194, are theyH1992 notH3808 writtenH3789 inH5921 the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478?
Omri Reigns in Israel
21At that timeH227 the peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478 were dividedH2505: HalfH2677 of the peopleH5971 supportedH1961H310 TibniH8402 sonH1121 of GinathH1527 as kingH4427, and halfH2677 supportedH310 OmriH6018. 22But the followersH5971 of OmriH6018 proved strongerH2388 than thoseH5971 of TibniH8402 sonH1121 of GinathH1527. So TibniH8402 diedH4191 and OmriH6018 became kingH4427.
23In the thirty-firstH7970H259 yearH8141 of Asa’sH609 reignH4428 over JudahH3063, OmriH6018 became kingH4427 ofH5921 IsraelH3478, and he reigned twelveH8147H6240 yearsH8141, sixH8337 of them in TirzahH8656. 24He boughtH7069 the hillH2022 of SamariaH8111 fromH854 ShemerH8106 for two talentsH3603 of silverH37011 and builtH1129 a city there, callingH7121 it SamariaH8111 afterH5921 the nameH8034 of ShemerH8106, who had ownedH113 the hillH2022.
25But OmriH6018 didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068 and acted more wickedlyH7489 than allH3605 whoH834 were before himH6440. 26For he walkedH1980 in allH3605 the waysH1870 of JeroboamH3379 sonH1121 of NebatH5028 and in his sinsH2403, whichH834 he caused IsraelH3478 to commitH2398, provokingH3707 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, to angerH853 with their worthless idolsH1892.
27As for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of OmriH6018, along with his accomplishmentsH834H6213 and the mightH1369 he exercisedH6213, are theyH1992 notH3808 writtenH3789 inH5921 the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478?
28And OmriH6018 restedH7901 withH5973 his fathersH1 and was buriedH6912 in SamariaH8111, and his sonH1121 AhabH256 reignedH4427 in his placeH8478.
Ahab Reigns in Israel, Marries Jezebel
29In the thirty-eighthH7970H8083 yearH8141 of Asa’sH609 reignH4428 over JudahH3063, AhabH256 sonH1121 of OmriH6018 became kingH4427 ofH5921 IsraelH3478, and he reignedH4427 in SamariaH8111 twenty-twoH6242H8147 yearsH8141.
30However, AhabH256 sonH1121 of OmriH6018 didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, more than allH3605 whoH834 were before himH6440. 31And as if it wereH1961 not enoughH7043 for him to walkH1980 in the sinsH2403 of JeroboamH3379 sonH1121 of NebatH5028, he even marriedH3947H802 JezebelH348 the daughterH1323 of EthbaalH856 kingH4428 of the SidoniansH6722, and he then proceededH1980 to serveH5647 and worshipH7812 Baal.
32First, Ahab set upH6965 an altarH4196 for BaalH1168 in the templeH1004 of BaalH1168 thatH834 he had builtH1129 in SamariaH8111. 33ThenH256 he set upH6213 an Asherah poleH842. Thus AhabH256 didH6213 moreH3254 to provokeH3707 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of Israel, to angerH3478 than allH3605 the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478 before himH6440.
34In Ahab’s daysH3117, HielH2419 the BetheliteH1017 rebuiltH1129 JerichoH3405. At the cost of AbiramH48 his firstbornH1060 he laid its foundationH3245, and at the cost of SegubH7687 his youngestH6810 he set upH5324 its gatesH1817, according to the wordH1697 thatH834 the LORDH3068 had spokenH1696 throughH3027 JoshuaH3091 sonH1121 of NunH5126.2
