Prophecy against Baasha
1Now the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 to 1JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of 2HananiH2607 againstH5921 BaashaH1201, sayingH559, 2“SinceH3282H834 I 3exaltedH7311 you from the dustH6083 and madeH5414 you leaderH5057 overH5921 My peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and 4you have walkedH1980 in the wayH1870 of JeroboamH3379 and have misledH2398 My peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 intoH2398 sinH2398, provokingH3707 Me toH3707 angerH3707 with their sinsH2403, 3beholdH2009, 5I am going to 6burnH1197 7BaashaH1201 and his houseH1004, and 8I will makeH5414 your houseH1004 like the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028. 49Anyone belonging to BaashaH1201 who diesH4191 in the cityH5892, the dogsH3611 will eatH398; and anyone belonging to him who diesH4191 in the fieldH7704, the birdsH5775 of the skyH8064 will eatH398.”
510Now as for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of BaashaH1201 and whatH834 he didH6213 and his mightH1369, are they not writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478?
The Israelite Kings
6And BaashaH1201 11layH7901 downH7901 with his fathersH1 and was buriedH6912 in 12TirzahH8656, and his sonH1121 ElahH425 becameH4427 kingH4427 inH8478 his placeH8478. 7MoreoverH1571, the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 throughH3027 13the prophetH5030 JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of HananiH2607 cameH1961 againstH413 BaashaH1201 and his householdH1004, both becauseH5921 of allH3605 the evilH7463 that he didH6213 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068, provokingH3707 Him toH3707 angerH3707 with 14the workH4639 of his handsH3027, by beingH1961 like the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, and becauseH5921H834 15he struckH5221 16it.
8In the twenty-sixthH6242H8337 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, ElahH425 the sonH1121 of BaashaH1201 becameH4427 kingH4427 overH5921 IsraelH3478 at TirzahH8656, and reigned for two yearsH8141. 9And his servantH5650 17ZimriH2174, commanderH8269 of halfH4276 his chariotsH7393, conspiredH7194 againstH5921 him. Now 18Elah was in TirzahH8656 drinkingH8354 himself drunkH7910 in the houseH1004 of ArzaH777, 19whoH834 was inH5921 chargeH5921 ofH5921 the householdH1004 in TirzahH8656. 10Then ZimriH2174 cameH935 inH935 and struckH5221 him and putH4191 him toH4191 deathH4191 in the twenty-seventhH6242H7651 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and he becameH4427 kingH4427 inH8478 his placeH8478. 11And when he becameH4427 kingH4427, as soon as he satH3427 on his throneH3678, 20he 21killedH5221 allH3605 the householdH1004 of BaashaH1201; he did not leaveH7604 22a single maleH8366H7023 aliveH7604, either of his 23relativesH1350 or of his friendsH7453.
12So ZimriH2174 eliminatedH8045 allH3605 the householdH1004 of BaashaH1201, 24in accordance with the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 whichH834 He spokeH1696 againstH413 BaashaH1201 throughH3027 25JehuH3058 the prophetH5030, 13for allH3605 the sinsH2403 of BaashaH1201 and the sinsH2403 of his sonH1121 ElahH425, whichH834 they 26committedH2398 and into whichH834 they misledH2398 IsraelH3478, 27provokingH3707 the LordH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478 toH3707 angerH3707 with their 28idolsH1892. 1429Now as for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of ElahH425 and allH3605 that he didH6213, are they not writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478?
15In the twenty-seventhH6242H7651 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, ZimriH2174 reignedH4427 for sevenH7651 daysH3117 in TirzahH8656. Now the peopleH5971 were campedH2583 againstH5921 30GibbethonH1405, whichH834 belonged to the PhilistinesH6430. 16And the peopleH5971 who were campedH2583 heardH8085 31it being saidH559, “ZimriH2174 has conspiredH7194 and has alsoH1571 struckH5221 andH5221 killedH5221 the kingH4428!” Therefore allH3605 IsraelH3478 madeH4427 OmriH6018, the commanderH8269 of the armyH6635, kingH4427 overH5921 IsraelH3478 that dayH3117 in the campH4264. 17Then OmriH6018 and allH3605 IsraelH3478 with him wentH5927 upH5927 from GibbethonH1405 and besiegedH6696H5921 TirzahH8656. 18When ZimriH2174 sawH7200 that the cityH5892 was takenH3920, he wentH935 into the citadelH759 of the king’sH4428 houseH1004 and burnedH8313 the king’sH4428 houseH1004 overH5921 himself with fireH784, and 32diedH4191, 19becauseH5921 of his sinsH2403 whichH834 he 33committedH2398, doingH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068, 34walkingH1980 in the wayH1870 of JeroboamH3379, and in his sinH2403 whichH834 he committedH6213, misleadingH2398 IsraelH3478 intoH2398 sinH2398. 2035Now as for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of ZimriH2174 and his conspiracyH7195 whichH834 he 36carriedH7194 outH7194, are they not writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478?
21ThenH227 the peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478 were dividedH2505 into twoH2677 partsH2677: halfH2677 of the peopleH5971 followedH1961H310 TibniH8402 the sonH1121 of GinathH1527, to makeH4427 him kingH4427; the other halfH2677 followedH310 OmriH6018. 22But the peopleH5971 whoH834 followedH310 OmriH6018 prevailedH2388 overH2388 the peopleH5971 whoH834 followedH310 TibniH8402 the sonH1121 of GinathH1527. And TibniH8402 diedH4191 and OmriH6018 becameH4427 kingH4427. 23In the thirty-firstH7970H259 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, OmriH6018 becameH4427 kingH4427 overH5921 IsraelH3478 and reigned for twelveH8147H6240 yearsH8141; he reignedH4427 for sixH8337 yearsH8141 at 37TirzahH8656. 24And he purchasedH7069 the hillH2022 38SamariaH8111 from ShemerH8106 for 39two talentsH3603 of silverH3701; and he builtH1129 on the hillH2022, and namedH7121H8034 the cityH5892 whichH834 he builtH1129 4041SamariaH8111, afterH5921 the nameH8034 of ShemerH8106, the ownerH113 of the hillH2022.
25Now 42OmriH6018 didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068, and 43actedH7489 moreH4480 wickedlyH7489 thanH4480 allH3605 whoH834 were beforeH6440 him. 26For he 44walkedH1980 45entirelyH3605 in the wayH1870 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028 and in his sinsH2403 into whichH834 he misledH2398 IsraelH3478, provokingH3707 the LordH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478 toH3707 angerH3707 with their 46idolsH1892. 27Now as for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of OmriH6018 whichH834 he didH6213 and his mightH1369 whichH834 he 47displayedH6213, are they not writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 28And OmriH6018 48layH7901 downH7901 with his fathersH1 and was buriedH6912 in SamariaH8111; and his sonH1121 AhabH256 becameH4427 kingH4427 inH8478 his placeH8478.
29Now AhabH256 the sonH1121 of OmriH6018 becameH4427 kingH4427 overH5921 IsraelH3478 in the thirty-eighthH7970H8083 yearH8141 of AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and AhabH256 the sonH1121 of OmriH6018 reignedH4427 overH5921 IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111 for twenty-twoH6242H8147 yearsH8141. 30AhabH256 the sonH1121 of OmriH6018 didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068 49moreH4480 thanH4480 allH3605 whoH834 were beforeH6440 him.
31And as though it had beenH7043 aH7043 trivialH7043 thingH7043 for him to walkH1980 in the sinsH2403 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, 50he marriedH3947H802 JezebelH348 the daughterH1323 of EthbaalH856 kingH4428 of the 51SidoniansH6722, and wentH1980 and servedH5647 BaalH1168, and worshipedH2331 him. 32So he erectedH6965 an altarH4196 for BaalH1168 at 52the houseH1004 of BaalH1168, whichH834 he builtH1129 in SamariaH8111. 33AhabH256 also madeH6213 53the 54AsherahH842. So 55AhabH256 didH6213 moreH3254 to provokeH3707 the LordH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478 toH3707 angerH3707 thanH4480 allH3605 the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478 whoH834 were beforeH6440 him. 3456In his daysH3117 HielH2419 the BetheliteH1017 rebuiltH1129 JerichoH3405; he laidH3245 its foundationsH3245 with the loss of AbiramH48 his firstbornH1060, and setH5324 upH5324 its gatesH1817 with the loss of his youngestH6810 son SegubH7687, in accordance with the wordH1697 of the LordH3068, whichH834 He spokeH1696 by JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126.
