1 Kings 9
American Standard Version
1And it came to pass, when SolomonH8010 had finishedH3615 the buildingH1129 of the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and the king’sH4428 houseH1004, and all Solomon’s desireH2654 which he wasH1961 pleasedH2654 to do, 2that Jehovah appearedH7200 to SolomonH8010 the secondH8145 timeH8145, as he had appearedH7200 unto him at GibeonH1391. 3And Jehovah saidH559 unto him, I have heardH8085 thy prayerH8605 and thy supplicationH8467, that thou hast madeH7760 before me: I have hallowed this houseH1004, which thou hast builtH1129, to putH7760 my nameH8034 there for everH5769; and mine eyesH5869 and my heartH3820 shall beH1961 there perpetually. 4And as for thee, if thou wilt walkH1980 before me, as DavidH1732 thy fatherH1 walkedH1980, in integrityH8537 of heartH3824, and in uprightnessH3476, to do according to all that I have commandedH6680 thee, and wilt keepH8104 my statutesH2706 and mine ordinancesH4941; 5then I will establishH6965 the throneH3678 of thy kingdomH4467 over IsraelH3478 for everH5769, according as I promised to DavidH1732 thy fatherH1, sayingH559, There shall not fail thee a manH376 upon the throneH3678 of IsraelH3478. 6But if ye shall turnH7725 awayH7725 from following me, ye or your children, and not keepH8104 my commandmentsH4687 and my statutesH2708 which I have setH5414 before you, but shall goH1980 and serveH5647 otherH312 godsH430, and worship them; 7then will I cutH3772 off IsraelH3478 out of the landH127 which I have givenH5414 them; and this houseH1004, which I have hallowed for my nameH8034, will I cast out of my sight; and IsraelH3478 shall beH1961 a proverbH4912 and a bywordH4912 among all peoplesH5971. 8And though this houseH1004 is so high, yet shall every oneH2088 that passeth by it beH1961 astonished, and shall hissH8319; and they shall sayH559, WhyH4100 hath Jehovah done thusH3602 unto this landH776, and to this houseH1004? 9and they shall answer, Because they forsook Jehovah their GodH430, who broughtH935 forthH3318 their fathersH1 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and laid holdH2388 on otherH312 godsH430, and worshipped them, and servedH5647 them: thereforeH3651 hath Jehovah broughtH935 all this evilH7451 upon them.
10And it came to pass at the endH7097 of twentyH6242 yearsH8141, wherein SolomonH8010 had builtH1129 the twoH8147 housesH1004, the houseH1004 of Jehovah and the king’sH4428 houseH1004 11(now HiramH2438 the kingH4428 of TyreH6865 had furnished SolomonH8010 with cedar-trees and fir-trees, and with goldH2091, according to all his desireH2656), that thenH227 kingH4428 SolomonH8010 gaveH5414 HiramH2438 twentyH6242 citiesH5892 in the landH776 of GalileeH1551. 12And HiramH2438 cameH3318 out from TyreH6865 to seeH7200 the citiesH5892 which SolomonH8010 had givenH5414 him; and they pleased him not. 13And he saidH559, What citiesH5892 are these which thou hast givenH5414 me, my brotherH251? And he calledH7121 them the landH776 of CabulH3521 unto this dayH3117. 14And HiramH2438 sentH7971 to the kingH4428 sixscore talentsH3603 of goldH2091.
15And this is the reason of the levy which kingH4428 SolomonH8010 raised, to buildH1129 the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and his own houseH1004, and MilloH4407, and the wallH2346 of JerusalemH3389, and HazorH2674, and MegiddoH4023, and GezerH1507. 16PharaohH6547 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 had goneH5927 up, and takenH3920 GezerH1507, and burnt it with fireH784, and slainH2026 the CanaanitesH3669 that dweltH3427 in the cityH5892, and givenH5414 it for a portion unto his daughterH1323, Solomon’s wifeH802. 17And SolomonH8010 builtH1129 GezerH1507, and Beth-horonH1032 the nether, 18and BaalathH1191, and TamarH8559 in the wildernessH4057, in the landH776, 19and all the store-cities that SolomonH8010 had, and the citiesH5892 for his chariotsH7393, and the citiesH5892 for his horsemenH6571, and that which SolomonH8010 desired to buildH1129 for his pleasure in JerusalemH3389, and in LebanonH3844, and in all the landH776 of his dominionH4475. 20As for all the peopleH5971 that were leftH3498 of the AmoritesH567, the HittitesH2850, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of IsraelH3478; 21their children that were leftH3498 after them in the landH776, whom the children of IsraelH3478 were not ableH3201 utterly to destroyH2763, of them did SolomonH8010 raise a levy of bondservants unto this dayH3117. 22But of the children of IsraelH3478 did SolomonH8010 makeH5414 no bondservants; but they were the menH376 of warH4421, and his servantsH5650, and his princesH8269, and his captains, and rulers of his chariotsH7393 and of his horsemenH6571.
23These were the chiefH8269 officers that were over Solomon’s workH4399, fiveH2568 hundredH3967 and fiftyH2572, who bare ruleH7287 over the peopleH5971 that wrought in the workH4399.
24But Pharaoh’s daughterH1323 cameH5927 up out of the cityH5892 of DavidH1732 unto her houseH1004 which Solomon had builtH1129 for her: thenH227 did he buildH1129 MilloH4407.
25And threeH7969 timesH6471 in a yearH8141 did SolomonH8010 offer burnt-offerings and peace-offerings upon the altarH4196 which he builtH1129 unto Jehovah, burning incenseH6999 therewith, upon the altarH4196 that was before Jehovah. So he finished the houseH1004.
26And kingH4428 SolomonH8010 madeH6213 a navy of shipsH590 in Ezion-geberH6100, which is beside Eloth, on the shoreH8193 of the Red SeaH3220, in the landH776 of EdomH123. 27And HiramH2438 sentH7971 in the navy his servantsH5650, shipmen that had knowledge of the seaH3220, with the servantsH5650 of SolomonH8010. 28And they cameH935 to OphirH211, and fetched from thence goldH2091, fourH702 hundredH3967 and twentyH6242 talentsH3603, and broughtH935 it to kingH4428 SolomonH8010.
