1 Kings 22
American Standard Version
1And they continued threeH7969 yearsH8141 without warH4421 between Syria and IsraelH3478. 2And it came to pass in the thirdH7992 yearH8141, that JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 came downH3381 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 3And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto his servantsH5650, KnowH3045 ye that Ramoth-gilead is ours, and we are still, and takeH3947 it not out of the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of Syria? 4And he saidH559 unto JehoshaphatH3092, Wilt thou go with me to battleH4421 to Ramoth-gilead? And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, I am as thou art, my peopleH5971 as thy peopleH5971, my horsesH5483 as thy horsesH5483.
5And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559 unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, Inquire first, I pray thee, for the wordH1697 of Jehovah. 6Then the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 gatheredH6908 the prophetsH5030 togetherH6908, about fourH702 hundredH3967 menH376, and saidH559 unto them, Shall I goH5927 against Ramoth-gilead to battleH4421, or shall I forbear? And they saidH559, GoH5927 up; for the LordH136 will deliver it into the handH3027 of the kingH4428. 7But JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, Is there not hereH6311 a prophetH5030 of Jehovah besides, that we may inquire of him? 8And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto JehoshaphatH3092, There is yetH5750 oneH259 manH376 by whom we may inquire of Jehovah, MicaiahH4321 the sonH1121 of ImlahH3229: but I hateH8130 him; for he doth not prophesyH5012 goodH2896 concerning me, but evilH7451. And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, Let not the kingH4428 sayH559 soH3651. 9Then the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 calledH7121 an officer, and saidH559, Fetch quicklyH4116 MicaiahH4321 the sonH1121 of ImlahH3229. 10Now the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 were sittingH3427 each on his throneH3678, arrayed in their robes, in an open place at the entranceH6607 of the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111; and all the prophetsH5030 were prophesyingH5012 before them. 11And ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of Chenaanah madeH6213 him hornsH7161 of ironH1270, and saidH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until they be consumed. 12And all the prophetsH5030 prophesiedH5012 soH3651, sayingH559, GoH5927 up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosperH6743; for Jehovah will deliver it into the handH3027 of the kingH4428.
13And the messengerH4397 that wentH1980 to callH7121 MicaiahH4321 spake unto him, sayingH559, Behold now, the wordsH1697 of the prophetsH5030 declare goodH2896 unto the kingH4428 with oneH259 mouthH6310: let thy wordH1697, I pray thee, beH1961 like the wordH1697 of oneH259 of them, and speakH1696 thou goodH2896. 14And MicaiahH4321 saidH559, As Jehovah liveth, what Jehovah saith unto me, that will I speakH1696. 15And when he was comeH935 to the kingH4428, the kingH4428 saidH559 unto him, MicaiahH4321, shall we goH935 to Ramoth-gilead to battleH4421, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, GoH935 up and prosperH6743; and Jehovah will deliver it into the handH3027 of the kingH4428. 16And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto him, HowH4100 many timesH6471 shall I adjureH7650 thee that thou speakH1696 unto me nothing but the truthH571 in the nameH8034 of Jehovah? 17And he saidH559, I sawH7200 all IsraelH3478 scatteredH6327 upon the mountainsH2022, as sheepH6629 that have no shepherdH7462: and Jehovah saidH559, These have no masterH113; let them returnH7725 every manH376 to his houseH1004 in peaceH7965. 18And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 to JehoshaphatH3092, Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesyH5012 goodH2896 concerning me, but evilH7451? 19And Micaiah saidH559, ThereforeH3651 hearH8085 thou the wordH1697 of Jehovah: I sawH7200 Jehovah sittingH3427 on his throneH3678, and all the hostH6635 of heavenH8064 standingH5975 by him on his rightH3225 handH3225 and on his left. 20And Jehovah saidH559, Who shall entice AhabH256, that he may goH5927 up and fallH5307 at Ramoth-gilead? And oneH2088 saidH559 on this manner; and another saidH559 on that manner. 21And there cameH3318 forthH3318 a spiritH7307, and stoodH5975 before Jehovah, and saidH559, I will entice him. 22And Jehovah saidH559 unto him, Wherewith? And he saidH559, I will goH3318 forthH3318, and will beH1961 a lyingH8267 spiritH7307 in the mouthH6310 of all his prophetsH5030. And he saidH559, Thou shalt entice him, and shalt prevailH3201 alsoH1571: goH3318 forthH3318, and do soH3651. 23NowH6258 thereforeH6258, behold, Jehovah hath putH5414 a lyingH8267 spiritH7307 in the mouthH6310 of all these thy prophetsH5030; and Jehovah hath spokenH1696 evilH7451 concerning thee.
24Then ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of Chenaanah came near, and smote MicaiahH4321 on the cheekH3895, and saidH559, Which way went the SpiritH7307 of Jehovah from me to speakH1696 unto thee? 25And MicaiahH4321 saidH559, Behold, thou shalt seeH7200 on that dayH3117, when thou shalt goH935 into an innerH2315 chamberH2315 to hideH2247 thyself. 26And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559, TakeH3947 MicaiahH4321, and carry him backH7725 unto AmonH526 the governor of the cityH5892, and to JoashH3101 the king’sH4428 sonH1121; 27and sayH559, ThusH3541 saith the kingH4428, PutH7760 this fellow in the prison, and feed him with breadH3899 of affliction and with waterH4325 of affliction, until I comeH935 in peaceH7965. 28And MicaiahH4321 saidH559, If thou returnH7725 at all in peaceH7965, Jehovah hath not spokenH1696 by me. And he saidH559, HearH8085, ye peoplesH5971, all of you.
29So the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 wentH5927 up to Ramoth-gilead. 30And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto JehoshaphatH3092, I will disguiseH2664 myself, and goH935 into the battleH4421; but putH3847 thou on thy robes. And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 disguisedH2664 himself, and wentH935 into the battleH4421. 31Now the kingH4428 of Syria had commandedH6680 the thirtyH7970 and twoH8147 captains of his chariotsH7393, sayingH559, FightH3898 neither with smallH6996 nor greatH1419, save onlyH905 with the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 32And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariotsH7393 sawH7200 JehoshaphatH3092, that they saidH559, SurelyH389 it is the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478; and they turnedH5493 asideH5493 to fightH3898 against him: and JehoshaphatH3092 criedH2199 out. 33And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariotsH7393 sawH7200 that it wasH1961 not the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, that they turnedH7725 backH7725 from pursuing him. 34And a certain manH376 drewH4900 his bowH7198 at a venture, and smote the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 between the joints of the armorH8302: wherefore he saidH559 unto the driver of his chariot, TurnH2015 thy handH3027, and carry me out of the host; for I am sore woundedH5221. 35And the battleH4421 increased that dayH3117: and the kingH4428 wasH1961 stayed up in his chariotH4818 against the Syrians, and diedH4191 at even; and the bloodH1818 ran out of the woundH4347 into the bottom of the chariotH4818. 36And there wentH935 a cryH7440 throughout the host about the goingH935 down of the sunH8121, sayingH559, Every manH376 to his cityH5892, and every manH376 to his country.
37So the kingH4428 diedH4191, and was broughtH935 to SamariaH8111; and they buriedH6912 the kingH4428 in SamariaH8111. 38And they washedH7364 the chariotH7393 by the poolH1295 of SamariaH8111; and the dogsH3611 lickedH3952 up his bloodH1818 (now the harlots washedH7364 themselves there); according unto the wordH1697 of Jehovah which he spake. 39Now the restH3499 of the acts of AhabH256, and all that he did, and the ivoryH8127 houseH1004 which he builtH1129, and all the citiesH5892 that he builtH1129, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 40So AhabH256 slept with his fathersH1; and AhaziahH274 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
41And JehoshaphatH3092 the sonH1121 of AsaH609 began to reignH4427 over JudahH3063 in the fourth yearH8141 of AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 42JehoshaphatH3092 was thirtyH7970 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 twentyH6242 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389. And his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was AzubahH5806 the daughterH1323 of ShilhiH7977. 43And he walked in all the wayH1870 of AsaH609 his fatherH1; he turnedH5493 not asideH5493 from it, doing that which was rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of Jehovah: howbeit the high places were not taken awayH5493; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places. 44And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
45Now the rest of the acts of JehoshaphatH3092, and his might that he showed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of Judah? 46And the remnant of the sodomites, that remained in the daysH3117 of his father Asa, he put away out of the land. 47And there was no king in Edom: a deputy was king. 48Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Ezion-geber. 49Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto JehoshaphatH3092, Let my servants goH1980 with thy servants in the shipsH591. But JehoshaphatH3092 would not. 50And JehoshaphatH3092 slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; And Jehoram his sonH1121 reigned in his stead.
51Ahaziah the sonH1121 of Ahab began to reignH4427 over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4427 of Judah, and he reignedH4427 two years over Israel. 52And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the sonH1121 of Nebat, wherein he made IsraelH3478 to sin. 53And he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger Jehovah, the God of IsraelH3478, according to all that his fatherH1 had done.
