8And it shall be, when ye haveseizedכְּתָפְשְׂכֶ֣םke.ta.fe.se.KhemH8610uponוְהָיָ֞הve.ha.YahH1961thecityהָעִ֗ירha.'IrH5892, that ye shallsetתַּצִּ֤יתוּta.Tzi.tuH3341thecityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892onfireבָּאֵ֔שׁba.'EshH784; according to thewordכִּדְבַ֥רkid.VarH1697of theLORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068shall yedoתַּעֲשׂ֑וּta.'a.SuH6213:seeרְא֖וּre.'UH7200, I havecommandedצִוִּ֥יתִיtzi.Vi.tiH6680youH6680.

9AndJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091sentH7971themforthH7971: and theywentאֶל־'el-H413to the ambushment, andabodeוַיֵּשְׁב֗וּvai.ye.she.VuH3427betweenH996Beth-el andAiהָעַ֖יha.'AiH5857, on thewestמִיָּ֣םmi.YamH3220sideH3220ofAiלָעָ֑יla.'AiH5857: butJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091lodged thatnightבַּלַּ֥יְלָהba.Lay.lahH3915among thepeopleהָעָֽם׃ha.'AmH5971.

12And hetookH3947aboutH3947fiveכַּחֲמֵ֥שֶׁתka.cha.Me.shetH2568thousandאֲלָפִ֖ים'a.la.FimH505menאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376, andsetוַיָּ֨שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760them inambushאֹרֵ֗ב'o.RevH693betweenH996Beth-el andAiהָעַ֖יha.'AiH5857, on thewestמִיָּ֥םmi.YamH3220sideH3220of thecityלָעִֽיר׃la.'IrH5892.

13Soאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834theysetוַיָּשִׂ֨ימוּvai.ya.Si.muH7760thepeopleהָעָ֜םha.'AmH5971,evenH853allכָּל־kol-H3605thehostהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗הha.ma.cha.NehH4264that was on thenorthמִצְּפ֣וֹןmi.tze.FonH6828of thecityלָעִ֔ירla.'IrH5892, and their liers in wait that were on thewestמִיָּ֣םmi.YamH3220of thecityלָעִ֑ירla.'IrH5892; andJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091went thatnightבַּלַּ֥יְלָהba.Lay.lahH3915intoH8432themidstH8432of the vale.

14And itcameH1961topassH1961, when thekingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428ofAiהָעַ֗יha.'AiH5857sawH7200it, that they hasted androseH7925upH7200earlyוַיַּשְׁכִּ֡ימוּvai.yash.Ki.muH7925, and themenH376of thecityהָעִ֣ירha.'IrH5892wentH3318outH3318againstH6440Israelיִ֠שְׂרָאֵלYis.ra.'elH3478tobattleלַֽמִּלְחָמָ֞הla.mil.cha.MahH4421, he andallוְכָל־ve.kholH3605hispeopleעַמּ֛וֹa.MoH5971, at the timeappointedלַמּוֹעֵ֖דla.mo.'EdH4150,beforeH6440theArabahהָֽעֲרָבָ֑הha.'a.ra.VahH6160; but he wistnotלֹ֣אlo'H3808that there was anambushאֹרֵ֥ב'o.RevH693againstH6440himbehindמֵאַחֲרֵ֥יme.'a.cha.ReiH310thecityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892.

15AndJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֥עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091andallH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478madeH3605as if they werebeatenוַיִּנָּֽגְע֛וּvai.yi.na.ge.'UH5060beforeלִפְנֵיהֶ֑םlif.nei.HemH6440them, andfledוַיָּנֻ֖סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127by thewayדֶּ֥רֶךְDe.rekhH1870of thewildernessהַמִּדְבָּֽר׃ha.mid.BarH4057.

16Andallכָּל־kol-H3605thepeopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971that were in thecityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892werecalledH2199togetherוַיִּזָּעֲק֗וּvai.yi.za.'a.KuH2199topursueלִרְדֹּ֖ףlir.DofH7291afterH310them: and theypursuedוַֽיִּרְדְּפוּ֙vai.yir.de.FuH7291afterH310Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091, and weredrawnוַיִּנָּתְק֖וּvai.yi.na.te.KuH5423awayH310from thecityH5892.

17And there wasnotוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808amanאִ֗ישׁ'IshH376leftH7604inAiבָּעַי֙ba.'AiH5857or Beth-el, thatwentH3318notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808outH3318afterאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478: and theyleftH7604thecityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892openפְּתוּחָ֔הpe.tu.ChahH6605, andpursuedוַֽיִּרְדְּפ֖וּvai.yir.de.FuH7291afterאַחֲרֵ֥י'a.cha.ReiH310Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ פYis.ra.'ElH3478.

19And theambushוְהָאוֹרֵ֡בve.ha.'o.RevH693aroseקָם֩kamH6965quicklyH4116outH5186of theirplaceמִמְּקוֹמ֤וֹmi.me.ko.MoH4725, and theyranוַיָּר֙וּצוּ֙vai.ya.Ru.tzuH7323assoonH4116as he hadstretchedכִּנְט֣וֹתkin.TotH5186outH5186hishandיָד֔וֹya.DoH3027, andenteredH935intoH935thecityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892, andtookוַֽיִּלְכְּד֑וּהָvai.yil.ke.Du.haH3920it; and they hasted andsetH6965thecityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892onfireבָּאֵֽשׁ׃ba.'EshH784.

20And when themenH376ofAiהָעַ֨יha.'AiH5857lookedH7200behindאַחֲרֵיהֶ֜ם'a.cha.rei.HemH310them, theysawH7200, and,beholdוְהִנֵּ֨הve.hi.NehH2009, thesmokeעֲשַׁ֤ן'a.ShanH6227of thecityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892ascendedH5927upH5927toheavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יְמָהha.sha.May.mahH8064, and they hadnoוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808powerיָדַ֛יִםya.Da.yimH3027tofleeלָנ֖וּסla.NusH5127thiswayהֵ֣נָּהHe.nahH2008or thatwayוָהֵ֑נָּהva.He.nahH2008: and thepeopleוְהָעָם֙ve.ha.'AmH5971thatfledהַנָּ֣סha.NasH5127to thewildernessהַמִּדְבָּ֔רha.mid.BarH4057turnedוַיִּפְנ֣וּvai.yif.NuH6437backH6437uponהָיָ֨הha.YahH1961thepursuersהָרוֹדֵֽף׃ha.ro.DefH7291.
