3So Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091aroseוַיָּ֧קָםvai.Ya.komH6965,and all the peopleעַ֥ם'amH5971of warהַמִּלְחָמָ֖הha.mil.cha.MahH4421,to go upלַעֲל֣וֹתla.'a.LotH5927against Aiהָעָ֑יha.'AiH5857:and Joshuaיְ֠הוֹשֻׁעַYe.ho.shu.a'H3091chose outוַיִּבְחַ֣רvai.yiv.CharH977thirtyשְׁלֹשִׁ֨יםshe.lo.ShimH7970thousandאֶ֤לֶף'E.lefH505mightyגִּבּוֹרֵ֣יgi.bo.ReiH1368menאִישׁ֙'ishH376of valourהַחַ֔יִלha.Cha.yilH2428,and sent them awayוַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֖םvai.yish.la.ChemH7971by nightלָֽיְלָה׃La.ye.lahH3915.

4And he commandedוַיְצַ֨וvay.TzavH6680them, sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559,Beholdרְ֠אוּRe.'uH7200,ye shall lie in waitאֹרְבִ֤ים'o.re.VimH693against the cityלָעִיר֙la.'IrH5892, evenbehindמֵאַחֲרֵ֣יme.'a.cha.ReiH310the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892:goH7368not veryמְאֹ֑דme.'OdH3966farתַּרְחִ֥יקוּtar.Chi.kuH7368from the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892,but be ye all readyנְכֹנִֽים׃ne.kho.NimH3559:

5And I, and all the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971that arewith me, will approachנִקְרַ֖בnik.RavH7126unto the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892:and it shall come to pass, when they come outיֵצְא֤וּye.tze.'UH3318againstH7125us, as at the firstבָּרִֽאשֹׁנָ֔הba.ri.sho.NahH7223,that we will fleeוְנַ֖סְנוּve.Nas.nuH5127beforeלִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃lif.nei.HemH6440them,

6(For they will come outוְיָצְא֣וּve.ya.tze.'UH3318afterאַחֲרֵ֗ינוּ'a.cha.Rei.nuH310us) till we have drawnהַתִּיקֵ֤נוּha.ti.Ke.nuH5423them from the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892;for they will sayיֹֽאמְר֔וּyo.me.RuH559,They fleeנָסִ֣יםna.SimH5127beforeלְפָנֵ֔ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440us, as at the firstבָּרִֽאשֹׁנָ֑הba.ri.sho.NahH7223:therefore we will fleeוְנַ֖סְנוּve.Nas.nuH5127beforeלִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃lif.nei.HemH6440them.

7Then ye shall rise upתָּקֻ֙מוּ֙ta.Ku.muH6965from the ambushמֵהָ֣אוֹרֵ֔בme.Ha.'o.RevH693,and seizeוְהוֹרַשְׁתֶּ֖םve.ho.rash.TemH3423upon the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892:for Yhwhיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֖ם'e.lo.hei.KhemH430will deliverוּנְתָנָ֛הּu.ne.ta.NahH5414it into your handבְּיֶדְכֶֽם׃be.yed.KhemH3027.

8And it shall be, when ye have takenכְּתָפְשְׂכֶ֣םke.ta.fe.se.KhemH8610the cityהָעִ֗ירha.'IrH5892, thatye shall setתַּצִּ֤יתוּta.Tzi.tuH3341the cityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892on fireבָּאֵ֔שׁba.'EshH784:according to the commandmentכִּדְבַ֥רkid.VarH1697of Yhwhיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068shall ye doתַּעֲשׂ֑וּta.'a.SuH6213.Seeרְא֖וּre.'UH7200,I have commandedצִוִּ֥יתִיtzi.Vi.tiH6680you.

9Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091therefore sent them forthוַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֣םvai.yish.la.ChemH7971:and they wentH3212to lie in ambushהַמַּאְרָ֔בha.ma'.RavH3993,and abodeוַיֵּשְׁב֗וּvai.ye.she.VuH3427between Beth–elH1008and Aiהָעַ֖יha.'AiH5857,on the west sideמִיָּ֣םmi.YamH3220of Aiלָעָ֑יla.'AiH5857:but Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091lodgedוַיָּ֧לֶןvai.Ya.lenH3885that nightבַּלַּ֥יְלָהba.Lay.lahH3915amongבְּת֥וֹךְbe.TokhH8432the peopleהָעָֽם׃ha.'AmH5971.

10And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ye.ho.Shu.a'H3091rose up earlyוַיַּשְׁכֵּ֤םvai.yash.KemH7925in the morningבַּבֹּ֔קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242,and numberedוַיִּפְקֹ֖דvai.yif.KodH6485the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971,and went upוַיַּ֨עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927,he and the eldersוְזִקְנֵ֧יve.zik.NeiH2205of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478,beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971to Aiהָעָֽי׃ha.'AiH5857.

11And all the peopleהָעָ֨םha.'AmH5971, even the peopleof warהַמִּלְחָמָ֜הha.mil.cha.MahH4421that werewith him, went upעָלוּ֙'a.LuH5927,and drew nighוַֽיִּגְּשׁ֔וּvai.yi.ge.ShuH5066,and cameוַיָּבֹ֖אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935before the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892,and pitchedוַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙vai.ya.cha.NuH2583on the north sideמִצְּפ֣וֹןmi.tze.FonH6828of Aiלָעַ֔יla.'AiH5857: now there wasa valleyוְהַגַּ֖יve.ha.GaiH1516between them and Aiהָעָֽי׃ha.'AiH5857.

12And he tookוַיִּקַּ֕חvai.yi.KachH3947about fiveכַּחֲמֵ֥שֶׁתka.cha.Me.shetH2568thousandאֲלָפִ֖ים'a.la.FimH505menאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376,and setוַיָּ֨שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760them to lie in ambushאֹרֵ֗ב'o.RevH693between Beth–elH1008and AiH5857,on the west sideמִיָּ֥םmi.YamH3220of the cityלָעִֽיר׃la.'IrH5892 H5857.

13And when they had setוַיָּשִׂ֨ימוּvai.ya.Si.muH7760the peopleהָעָ֜םha.'AmH5971, evenall the armyהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗הha.ma.cha.NehH4264that wason the northמִצְּפ֣וֹןmi.tze.FonH6828of the cityלָעִ֔ירla.'IrH5892,and their liers in waitעֲקֵב֖וֹa.ke.VoH6119on the westמִיָּ֣םmi.YamH3220of the cityלָעִ֑ירla.'IrH5892,Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091wentH3212that nightבַּלַּ֥יְלָהba.Lay.lahH3915into the midstבְּת֥וֹךְbe.TokhH8432of the valleyהָעֵֽמֶק׃ha.'E.mekH6010.

14And it came to pass, when the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Aiהָעַ֗יha.'AiH5857sawכִּרְא֣וֹתkir.'otH7200it,that they hastedוַֽיְמַהֲר֡וּvay.ma.ha.RuH4116and rose up earlyוַיַּשְׁכִּ֡ימוּvai.yash.Ki.muH7925,and the menאַנְשֵֽׁי־'an.shei-H582of the cityהָעִ֣ירha.'IrH5892went outוַיֵּצְא֣וּvai.ye.tze.'UH3318againstH7125Israelיִ֠שְׂרָאֵלYis.ra.'elH3478to battleלַֽמִּלְחָמָ֞הla.mil.cha.MahH4421,he and all his peopleעַמּ֛וֹa.MoH5971,at a time appointedלַמּוֹעֵ֖דla.mo.'EdH4150,beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the plainהָֽעֲרָבָ֑הha.'a.ra.VahH6160;but he wistיָדַ֔עya.Da'H3045not that there wereliers in ambushאֹרֵ֥ב'o.RevH693against him behindמֵאַחֲרֵ֥יme.'a.cha.ReiH310the cityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892.

15And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֥עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091and all Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478made as if they were beatenוַיִּנָּֽגְע֛וּvai.yi.na.ge.'UH5060beforeלִפְנֵיהֶ֑םlif.nei.HemH6440them, and fledוַיָּנֻ֖סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127by the wayדֶּ֥רֶךְDe.rekhH1870of the wildernessהַמִּדְבָּֽר׃ha.mid.BarH4057.

16And all the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971that werein Aiבָּעַ֔יba.'irH5892 H5857were calledוַיִּזָּעֲק֗וּvai.yi.za.'a.KuH2199together to pursueלִרְדֹּ֖ףlir.DofH7291afterאַחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם'a.cha.rei.HemH310them: and they pursuedוַֽיִּרְדְּפוּ֙vai.yir.de.FuH7291afterאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091,and were drawn awayוַיִּנָּתְק֖וּvai.yi.na.te.KuH5423from the cityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892.

17And there was not a manאִ֗ישׁ'IshH376leftנִשְׁאַ֣רnish.'ArH7604in Aiבָּעַי֙ba.'AiH5857or Beth–elH1008,that went not outיָצְא֖וּya.tze.'UH3318afterH310Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478:and they leftוַיַּעַזְב֤וּvai.ya.'az.VuH5800the cityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892openפְּתוּחָ֔הpe.tu.ChahH6605,and pursuedוַֽיִּרְדְּפ֖וּvai.yir.de.FuH7291after Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ פYis.ra.'ElH3478.

18And Yhwhיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091,Stretch outנְ֠טֵהNe.tehH5186the spearבַּכִּיד֤וֹןba.ki.DonH3591that isin thy handבְּיָֽדְךָ֙be.ya.de.KhaH3027toward Aiהָעַ֔יha.'AiH5857;for I will giveאֶתְּנֶ֑נָּה'et.te.Ne.nahH5414it into thine handבְיָדְךָ֖ve.ya.de.KhaH3027.And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091stretched outוַיֵּ֧טvai.YetH5186the spearבַּכִּיד֥וֹןba.ki.DonH3591that he hadin his handבְּיָד֖וֹbe.ya.DoH3027toward the cityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892.

19And the ambushוְהָאוֹרֵ֡בve.ha.'o.RevH693aroseקָם֩kamH6965quicklyמְהֵרָ֨הme.he.RahH4120out of their placeמִמְּקוֹמ֤וֹmi.me.ko.MoH4725,and they ranוַיָּר֙וּצוּ֙vai.ya.Ru.tzuH7323as soon as he had stretched outכִּנְט֣וֹתkin.TotH5186his handיָד֔וֹya.DoH3027:and they enteredוַיָּבֹ֥אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935into the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892,and tookוַֽיִּלְכְּד֑וּהָvai.yil.ke.Du.haH3920it, and hastedוַֽיְמַהֲר֔וּvay.ma.ha.RuH4116and setוַיַּצִּ֥יתוּvai.ya.Tzi.tuH3341the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892on fireבָּאֵֽשׁ׃ba.'EshH784.

20And when the menאַנְשֵׁי֩'an.SheiH582of Aiהָעַ֨יha.'AiH5857lookedוַיִּפְנ֣וּvai.yif.NuH6437behindאַחֲרֵיהֶ֜ם'a.cha.rei.HemH310them, they sawוַיִּרְא֗וּvai.yir.'UH7200,and, behold, the smokeעֲשַׁ֤ן'a.ShanH6227of the cityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892ascended upעָלָ֜ה'a.LahH5927to heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יְמָהha.sha.May.mahH8064,and they had no powerיָדַ֛יִםya.Da.yimH3027to fleeלָנ֖וּסla.NusH5127this way or that wayH2008:and the peopleוְהָעָם֙ve.ha.'AmH5971that fledהַנָּ֣סha.NasH5127to the wildernessהַמִּדְבָּ֔רha.mid.BarH4057turned backנֶהְפַּ֖ךְneh.PakhH2015upon the pursuersהָרוֹדֵֽף׃ha.ro.DefH7291.

21And when Joshuaוִיהוֹשֻׁ֨עַvi.ho.Shu.a'H3091and all Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֜לYis.ra.'ElH3478sawרָא֗וּra.'UH7200that the ambushהָֽאֹרֵב֙ha.'o.RevH693had takenלָכַ֤דla.KhadH3920the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892,and that the smokeעֲשַׁ֣ן'a.ShanH6227of the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892ascendedעָלָ֖ה'a.LahH5927,then they turned againוַיָּשֻׁ֕בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725,and slewוַיַּכּ֖וּvai.ya.KuH5221the menאַנְשֵׁ֥י'an.SheiH582of Aiהָעָֽי׃ha.'AiH5857.

22And the otherH428issued outיָצְא֤וּya.tze.'UH3318of the cityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892againstH7125them; so they were in the midstבַּתָּ֔וֶךְba.Ta.vekhH8432of Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙le.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,some on this side, and some on that side: and they smoteוַיַּכּ֣וּvai.ya.KuH5221them, so thatעַד־'ad-H5704they letהִשְׁאִֽיר־hish.'ir-H7604none of them remainשָׂרִ֥ידsa.RidH8300or escapeוּפָלִֽיט׃u.fa.LitH6412.
