Ahijah Prophesies against the King

1At that timeH6256 AbijahH29 the sonH1121 of JeroboamH3379 becameH2470 sickH2470. 2And JeroboamH3379 saidH559 to his wifeH802, “NowH4994 ariseH6965 and 1disguiseH8132 yourself so that they will not knowH3045 that you are the wifeH802 of JeroboamH3379, and goH1980 to 2ShilohH7887. BeholdH2009, AhijahH281 the prophetH5030 is thereH8033, whoH1931 3saidH1696 regardingH5921 me that I would be kingH4428 overH5921 thisH2088 peopleH5971. 34TakeH3947 tenH6235 loavesH3899 with you, some pastriesH5350, and a jarH1228 of honeyH1706, and goH935 to him. He will tellH5046 you whatH4100 will happenH1961 to the boyH5288.”

4And Jeroboam’sH3379 wifeH802 didH6213 soH3651, and setH6965 outH6965 and wentH1980 to 5ShilohH7887, and cameH935 to the houseH1004 of 6AhijahH281. Now AhijahH281 couldH3201 not seeH7200 7becauseH3588 his eyesH5869 wereH6965 8glossyH6965 from his oldH7869 ageH7869. 5Now the LordH3068 had saidH559 to AhijahH281, “BeholdH2009, the wifeH802 of JeroboamH3379 is comingH935 to 9inquireH1875 of you aboutH413 her sonH1121, becauseH3588 he isH2470 sickH2470. You shall sayH1696 suchH2090 and suchH2088 to her, for it will be when she arrivesH935, that 10she is going to makeH5235 herself unrecognizableH5235.”

6So when AhijahH281 heardH8085 the soundH6963 of her feetH7272 comingH935 in the doorwayH6607, he saidH559, “ComeH935 inH935, wifeH802 of JeroboamH3379; whyH4100 do you makeH5235 yourself unrecognizableH5235? Nevertheless, I am sentH7971 to you with a harshH7186 message. 7GoH1980, sayH559 to JeroboamH3379, ‘ThisH3541 isH3541 whatH3541 the LordH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 saysH559: “11BecauseH3282H834 I exaltedH7311 you from amongH8432 the peopleH5971 and madeH5414 you leaderH5057 overH5921 My peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, 8and 12toreH7167 the kingdomH4467 awayH7167 from the houseH1004 of DavidH1732 and gaveH5414 it to you--13yet you have not beenH1961 like My servantH5650 DavidH1732, whoH834 keptH8104 My commandmentsH4687 and followedH1980H310 Me with allH3605 his heartH3824, 14to doH6213 onlyH7534 that whichH3477 was rightH3477 in My sightH5869; 9you also have doneH6213 moreH4480 evilH7489 thanH4480 allH3605 whoH834 were beforeH6440 you, and 15you have goneH1980 and madeH6213 for yourself otherH312 godsH430 and 16castH4541 metalH4541 imagesH4541 to provokeH3707 Me toH3707 angerH3707, and have 17thrownH7993 Me behindH310 your backH1458-- 10thereforeH3651 beholdH2009, I am bringingH935 disasterH7463 on the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, and 18I will eliminateH3772 from JeroboamH3379 19everyH8366 maleH8366H7023 person, 20both 21bondH6113 and freeH5800 in IsraelH3478, and I 22will makeH1197 a cleanH310 sweepH1197 of the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, justH3512 asH3512 one sweepsH1197 awayH1197 dungH1557 untilH5704 it isH8552 allH8552 goneH8552. 1123Anyone belonging to JeroboamH3379 who diesH4191 in the cityH5892, the dogsH3611 will eatH398. And anyone who diesH4191 in the fieldH7704, the birdsH5775 of the skyH8064 will eatH398; for the LordH3068 has spokenH1696 it.”’ 12Now you, ariseH6965, goH1980 to your houseH1004. 24When your feetH7272 enterH935 the cityH5892 the childH3206 will dieH4191. 13Then allH3605 IsraelH3478 will mournH5594 for him and buryH6912 him, for 25he aloneH905 of Jeroboam’sH3379 family will comeH935 to the graveH6913, becauseH3282 in him 26somethingH1697 goodH2896 was foundH4672 towardH413 the LordH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478 in the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379. 14Moreover, 27the LordH3068 will raiseH6965 upH6965 for Himself a kingH4428 overH5921 IsraelH3478 whoH834 will eliminateH3772 the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379 thisH2088 dayH3117 28and from nowH6258 on.

15“For the LordH3068 will strikeH5221 IsraelH3478, justH3512 asH3512 a reedH7070 swaysH5110 in the waterH4325; and 29He will uprootH5428 IsraelH3478 from 30thisH2088 goodH2896 landH127 whichH834 He gaveH5414 to their fathersH1, and 31will scatterH2219 them beyondH4480H5676 the Euphrates RiverH5104, 32becauseH3282H834 they have madeH6213 their 33AsherimH842, provokingH3707 the LordH3068 toH3707 angerH3707. 16He will giveH5414 upH5414 IsraelH3478 34becauseH1558 of the sinsH2403 of JeroboamH3379, whichH834 he 35committedH2398 and with whichH834 he misledH2398 IsraelH3478 intoH2398 sinH2398.”

17Then Jeroboam’sH3379 wifeH802 aroseH6965 and departedH1980, and cameH935 to 36TirzahH8656. 37As she was enteringH935 the thresholdH5592 of the houseH1004, the childH5288 diedH4191. 1838Then allH3605 IsraelH3478 buriedH6912 him and mournedH5594 for him, in accordance with the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 whichH834 He had spokenH1696 throughH3027 His servantH5650 AhijahH281 the prophetH5030.

19Now as for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JeroboamH3379, 39howH834 he madeH3898 warH3898 and howH834 he reignedH4427, beholdH2009, they are writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478. 20And the timeH3117 that JeroboamH3379 reignedH4427 was twenty-twoH6242H8147 yearsH8141; and he 40layH7901 downH7901 with his fathersH1, and his sonH1121 NadabH5070 reignedH4427 inH8478 his placeH8478.

Rehoboam Misleads Judah

2141Now RehoboamH7346 the sonH1121 of SolomonH8010 reignedH4427 in JudahH3063. RehoboamH7346 was forty-oneH705H259 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he becameH4427 kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 for seventeenH7651H6240 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389, 42the cityH5892 whichH834 the LordH3068 had chosenH977 from allH3605 the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 to putH7760 His nameH8034 thereH8033. And his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was NaamahH5279 the AmmonitessH5985. 22And the people of 43JudahH3063 didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068, and they 44provokedH7065 Him toH7065 jealousyH7065 with their sinsH2403 whichH834 they 45committedH2398, moreH4480 thanH4480 allH3605 that their fathersH1 had doneH6213. 23For they, tooH1571, builtH1129 for themselves 46highH1116 placesH1116, 47memorialH4676 stonesH4676, and 4849AsherimH842 on everyH3605 highH1364 hillH1389 and 50underH8478 everyH3605 luxuriantH7488 treeH6086. 24There were alsoH1571 51maleH6945 cultH6945 prostitutesH6945 in the landH776. They committedH6213 52allH3605 the same abominationsH8441 of the nationsH1471 whichH834 the LordH3068 dispossessedH3423 beforeH6440 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478.

2553Now it happenedH1961 in the fifthH2549 yearH8141 of KingH4428 RehoboamH7346, that ShishakH7895 the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 marchedH5927 againstH5921 JerusalemH3389. 26And he tookH3947 away the treasuresH214 of the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 and the treasuresH214 of the king’sH4428 houseH1004, and 54he tookH3947 everythingH3605; 55he even tookH3947 allH3605 the shieldsH4043 of goldH2091 whichH834 SolomonH8010 had madeH6213. 27So KingH4428 RehoboamH7346 madeH6213 shieldsH4043 of bronzeH5178 inH8478 their placeH8478, and 56entrustedH6485 them to the 57careH3027 of the commandersH8269 of the 58guardH7323 who guardedH8104 the doorwayH6607 of the king’sH4428 houseH1004. 28And it happenedH1961 as oftenH1767 as the kingH4428 enteredH935 the houseH1004 of the LordH3068, that the 59guardsH7323 would carryH5375 them and would bringH7725 them backH7725 into the 60guards’H7323 roomH8372.

2961Now as for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of RehoboamH7346 and allH3605 that he didH6213, are they not writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of JudahH3063? 3062And there was warH4421 betweenH996 RehoboamH7346 and JeroboamH3379 continuallyH3605H3117. 31And RehoboamH7346 63layH7901 downH7901 with his fathersH1 and was buriedH6912 with his fathersH1 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732; and 64his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was NaamahH5279 the AmmonitessH5985. And his sonH1121 AbijamH38 becameH4427 kingH4427 inH8478 his placeH8478.
