2And the Lordאֲדֹנָ֨י'a.do.NaiH136gaveוַיִּתֵּן֩vai.yi.TenH5414Jehoiakimיְהוֹיָקִ֣יםye.ho.ya.KimH3079kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֗הye.hu.DahH3063into his handבְּיָד֜וֹbe.ya.DoH3027,with partוּמִקְצָת֙u.mik.TzatH7117of the vesselsכְּלֵ֣יke.LeiH3627of the houseבֵית־veit-H1004of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430:which he carriedוַיְבִיאֵ֥םvay.vi.'EmH935into the landאֶֽרֶץ־'e.retz-H776of Shinarשִׁנְעָ֖רshin.'ArH8152to the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of his godאֱלֹהָ֑יו'e.lo.HavH430;and he broughtהֵבִ֔יאhe.Vi'H935the vesselsהַכֵּלִ֣יםha.ke.LimH3627into the treasureאוֹצַ֥ר'o.TzarH214houseבֵּ֖יתbeitH1004of his godאֱלֹהָֽיו׃'e.lo.HavH430.
3And the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428spakeוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto Ashpenazלְאַשְׁפְּנַ֖זle.'ash.pe.NazH828the masterרַ֣בravH7227of his eunuchsסָרִיסָ֑יוsa.ri.SavH5631,that he should bringלְהָבִ֞יאle.ha.Vi'H935certainof the childrenמִבְּנֵ֧יmi.be.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and of the king’sהַמְּלוּכָ֖הha.me.lu.KhahH4410seedוּמִזֶּ֥רַעu.mi.Ze.ra'H2233,and of the princesהַֽפַּרְתְּמִֽים׃Ha.par.te.MimH6579;
4Childrenיְלָדִ֣יםye.la.DimH3206in whom wasno blemishמוּם֩me.'umH3971,but wellוְטוֹבֵ֨יve.to.VeiH2896favouredמַרְאֶ֜הmar.'EhH4758,and skilfulוּמַשְׂכִּילִ֣יםu.mas.ki.LimH7919in all wisdomחָכְמָ֗הchokh.mahH2451,and cunningוְיֹ֤דְעֵיve.Yo.de.'eiH3045in knowledgeדַ֙עַת֙da.'atH1847,and understandingוּמְבִינֵ֣יu.me.vi.NeiH995scienceמַדָּ֔עma.Da'H4093, and such as hadabilityכֹּ֣חַKo.achH3581in them to standלַעֲמֹ֖דla.'a.ModH5975in the king’sהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428palaceבְּהֵיכַ֣לbe.hei.KhalH1964,and whom they might teachוּֽלֲלַמְּדָ֥םu.la.la.me.DamH3925the learningסֵ֖פֶרSe.ferH5612and the tongueוּלְשׁ֥וֹןu.le.ShonH3956of the Chaldeansכַּשְׂדִּֽים׃kas.DimH3778.
5And the kingהַמֶּ֜לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428appointedוַיְמַן֩vay.ManH4487them a dailyH3117provisionדְּבַר־de.var-H1697of the king’sהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428meatH6598,and of the wineוּמִיֵּ֣יןu.mi.YeinH3196which he drankמִשְׁתָּ֔יוmish.TavH4960:so nourishingוּֽלְגַדְּלָ֖םu.le.ga.de.LamH1431them threeשָׁל֑וֹשׁsha.Lo.oshH7969yearsשָׁנִ֣יםsha.NimH8141,that at the endוּמִ֨קְצָתָ֔םu.Mik.tza.TamH7117thereof they might standיַֽעַמְד֖וּya.'am.DuH5975beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428.
7Unto whom the princeשַׂ֥רsarH8269of the eunuchsהַסָּרִיסִ֖יםha.sa.ri.SimH5631gaveוַיָּ֧שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760namesשֵׁמ֑וֹתshe.MotH8034:for he gaveוַיָּ֨שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760unto Danielלְדָֽנִיֵּ֜אלle.da.ni.YelH1840the nameof Belteshazzarבֵּ֣לְטְשַׁאצַּ֗רbe.le.te.sha.TzarH1095;and to Hananiahוְלַֽחֲנַנְיָה֙ve.la.cha.nan.YahH2608,of Shadrachשַׁדְרַ֔ךְshad.RakhH7714;and to Mishaelוּלְמִֽישָׁאֵ֣לu.le.mi.sha.'ElH4332,of Meshachמֵישַׁ֔ךְmei.ShakhH4335;and to Azariahוְלַעֲזַרְיָ֖הve.la.'a.zar.YahH5838,of Abed–negoH5664.
8But Danielדָּנִיֵּאל֙da.ni.yeLH1840purposedוַיָּ֤שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760in his heartלִבּ֔וֹli.BoH3820that he would not defileיִתְגָּאַ֛לyit.ga.'AlH1351himself with the portionH6598of the king’sהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428meatH6598,nor with the wineוּבְיֵ֣יןu.ve.YeinH3196which he drankמִשְׁתָּ֑יוmish.TavH4960:therefore he requestedוַיְבַקֵּשׁ֙vay.va.KeshH1245of the princeמִשַּׂ֣רmi.SarH8269of the eunuchsהַסָּרִיסִ֔יםha.sa.ri.SimH5631that he might not defileיִתְגָּאָֽל׃yit.ga.'AlH1351himself.
10And the princeשַׂ֤רsarH8269of the eunuchsהַסָּרִיסִים֙ha.sa.ri.SimH5631saidוַיֹּ֜אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto Danielלְדָ֣נִיֵּ֔אלle.Da.ni.YelH1840,I fearיָרֵ֤אya.Re'H3373my lordאֲדֹנִ֣י'a.do.NiH113the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,who hath appointedמִנָּ֔הmi.NahH4487your meatמַאֲכַלְכֶ֖םma.'a.khal.KhemH3978and your drinkמִשְׁתֵּיכֶ֑םmish.tei.KhemH4960:for why should he seeיִרְאֶ֨הyir.'EhH7200your facesפְּנֵיכֶ֜םpe.nei.KhemH6440worse likingזֹֽעֲפִ֗יםzo.'a.FimH2196than the childrenהַיְלָדִים֙hay.la.DimH3206which areof your sortכְּגִֽילְכֶ֔םke.gi.le.KhemH1524? then shall ye make meendangerוְחִיַּבְתֶּ֥םve.chi.yav.TemH2325my headרֹאשִׁ֖יro.ShiH7218to the kingלַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃la.Me.lekhH4428.
11Then saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559Danielדָּנִיֵּ֖אלda.ni.YelH1840to Melzarהַמֶּלְצַ֑רha.mel.TzarH4453,whom the princeשַׂ֣רsarH8269of the eunuchsהַסָּֽרִיסִ֔יםha.sa.ri.SimH5631had setמִנָּה֙mi.NahH4487over Danielדָּנִיֵּ֣אלda.ni.YelH1840,Hananiahחֲנַנְיָ֔הcha.nan.YahH2608,Mishaelמִֽישָׁאֵ֖לmi.sha.'ElH4332,and Azariahוַעֲזַרְיָֽה׃va.'a.zar.YahH5838,
12Proveנַס־nas-H5254thy servantsעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650,I beseech thee, tenעֲשָׂרָ֑ה'a.sa.RahH6235daysיָמִ֣יםya.MimH3117;and let them giveוְיִתְּנוּ־ve.yi.te.nu-H5414us pulseהַזֵּרֹעִ֛יםha.ze.ro.'ImH2235to eatוְנֹאכְלָ֖הve.no.khe.LahH398,and waterוּמַ֥יִםu.Ma.yimH4325to drinkוְנִשְׁתֶּֽה׃ve.nish.TehH8354.
13Then let our countenancesמַרְאֵ֔ינוּmar.'Ei.nuH4758be looked uponוְיֵרָא֤וּve.ye.ra.'UH7200beforeלְפָנֶ֙יךָ֙le.fa.Nei.khaH6440thee, and the countenanceוּמַרְאֵה֙u.mar.'EhH4758of the childrenהַיְלָדִ֔יםhay.la.DimH3206that eatהָאֹ֣כְלִ֔יםha.'O.khe.LimH398of the portionH6598of the king’sהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428meatH6598:and as thou seestתִּרְאֵ֔הtir.'EhH7200,dealעֲשֵׂ֖ה'a.SehH6213with thy servantsעֲבָדֶֽיךָ׃'a.va.Dei.khaH5650.
15And at the endוּמִקְצָת֙u.mik.TzatH7117of tenעֲשָׂרָ֔ה'a.sa.RahH6235daysיָמִ֣יםya.MimH3117their countenancesמַרְאֵיהֶם֙mar.'ei.HemH4758appearedנִרְאָ֤הnir.'AhH7200fairerט֔וֹבTovH2896and fatterוּבְרִיאֵ֖יu.ve.ri.'EiH1277in fleshבָּשָׂ֑רba.SarH1320than all the childrenהַיְלָדִ֔יםhay.la.DimH3206which did eatהָאֹ֣כְלִ֔יםha.'O.khe.LimH398the portionH6598of the king’sהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428meatH6598.
17As for these fourאַרְבַּעְתָּ֔ם'ar.ba'.TamH702childrenוְהַיְלָדִ֤יםve.hay.la.DimH3206,Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֛יםha.'E.lo.HimH430gaveנָתַ֨ןna.TanH5414them knowledgeמַדָּ֥עma.Da'H4093and skillוְהַשְׂכֵּ֖לve.has.KelH7919in all learningסֵ֣פֶרSe.ferH5612and wisdomוְחָכְמָ֑הve.cha.khe.MahH2451:and Danielוְדָנִיֵּ֣אלve.da.ni.YelH1840had understandingהֵבִ֔יןhe.VinH995in all visionsחָז֖וֹןcha.ZonH2377and dreamsוַחֲלֹמֽוֹת׃va.cha.lo.MotH2472.
18Now at the endוּלְמִקְצָת֙u.le.mik.TzatH7117of the daysהַיָּמִ֔יםhai.ya.MimH3117that the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428had saidאָמַ֥ר'a.MarH559he should bringלַהֲבִיאָ֑םla.ha.vi.'AmH935them in, then the princeשַׂ֣רsarH8269of the eunuchsהַסָּרִיסִ֔יםha.sa.ri.SimH5631broughtוַיְבִיאֵם֙vay.vi.'EmH935them in beforeלִפְנֵ֖יlif.NeiH6440Nebuchadnezzarנְבֻכַדְנֶצַּֽר׃ne.vu.khad.ne.TzarH5019.
19And the kingהַמֶּלֶךְ֒ha.me.leKhH4428communedוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696with them; and among them all was foundנִמְצָא֙nim.Tza'H4672none like Danielכְּדָנִיֵּ֣אלke.da.ni.YelH1840,Hananiahחֲנַנְיָ֔הcha.nan.YahH2608,Mishaelמִֽישָׁאֵ֖לmi.sha.'ElH4332,and Azariahוַעֲזַרְיָ֑הva.'a.zar.YahH5838:therefore stoodוַיַּֽעַמְד֖וּvai.ya.'am.DuH5975they beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428.
20And in all mattersדְּבַר֙de.VarH1697of wisdomחָכְמַ֣תcha.khe.MatH2451andunderstandingבִּינָ֔הbi.NahH998,that the kingהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428enquiredבִּקֵּ֥שׁbi.KeshH1245of them, he foundוַֽיִּמְצָאֵ֞םvai.yim.tza.'EmH4672them ten timesעֶ֣שֶׂר'E.serH6235betterיָד֗וֹתya.DotH3027than all the magiciansהַֽחַרְטֻמִּים֙ha.char.tu.MimH2748andastrologersהָֽאַשָּׁפִ֔יםha.'a.sha.FimH825that werein all his realmמַלְכוּתֽוֹ׃mal.khu.ToH4438.
