10NowDavid’sדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732heartלֵב־lev-H3820troubledוַיַּ֤ךְvai.YakhH5221him afterאַחֲרֵי־ כֵ֖ן'a.cha.rei- khenH310 H3651he had countedסָפַ֣רsa.FarH5608the peopleהָעָ֑ם סha.'AmH5971.So Davidדָּוִ֜דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068, “I have sinnedחָטָ֤אתִיcha.Ta.tiH2398greatlyמְאֹד֙me.'OdH3966in whatאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834I have doneעָשִׂ֔יתִי'a.Si.tiH6213.But nowוְעַתָּ֣הve.'a.TahH6258, Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,pleaseנָא֙na'H4994overlookהַֽעֲבֶר־ha.'a.ver-H5674the guiltעֲוֹ֣ן'a.VonH5771of Your servantעַבְדְּךָ֔'av.de.KhaH5650, forI have actedH5528veryמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966foolishlyנִסְכַּ֖לְתִּיnis.Kal.tiH5528.”

11When Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732gotH6965upH6965in the morningבַּבֹּ֑קֶר פba.Bo.kerH1242,the wordוּדְבַר־u.de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068cameהָיָה֙ha.YahH1961toGadגָּ֣דgadH1410the prophetהַנָּבִ֔יאha.na.Vi'H5030,David’sדָוִ֖דda.VidH1732seerחֹזֵ֥הcho.ZehH2374,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

12“Goהָל֞וֹךְha.LokhH1980and speakוְדִבַּרְתָּ֣ve.di.bar.TaH1696to Davidדָּוִ֗דda.VidH1732, ‘ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559: “I am imposingנוֹטֵ֣לno.TelH5190upon you threeשָׁלֹ֕שׁsha.LoshH7969choices;chooseבְּחַר־be.char-H977for yourself oneאַֽחַת־'a.chat-H259of them, and I will doוְאֶֽעֱשֶׂה־ve.'e.'e.seh-H6213it to you.”’”

13So Gadגָ֥דgadH1410cameוַיָּבֹא־vai.ya.vo'-H935to Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732and toldוַיַּגֶּד־vai.ya.ged-H5046him, and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “ShallsevenשֶֽׁבַעShe.va'H7651yearsשָׁנִ֣ים׀sha.NimH8141of famineרָעָ֣ב׀ra.'AvH7458comeהֲתָב֣וֹאha.ta.Vo'H935to you in your landבְּאַרְצֶ֡ךָbe.'ar.Tze.khaH776?OrH518will you fleeנֻסְךָ֨nus.KhaH5127for threeשְׁלֹשָׁ֣הshe.lo.ShahH7969monthsחֳ֠דָשִׁיםCho.da.shimH2320beforeלִפְנֵֽי־lif.nei-H6440your enemiesצָרֶ֜יךָtza.Rei.khaH6862while they pursueרֹדְפֶ֗ךָro.de.Fe.khaH7291you? Or shall there be threeשְׁלֹ֨שֶׁתshe.Lo.shetH7969daysיָמִ֥יםya.MimH3117of plagueדֶּ֙בֶר֙de.verH1698in your landבְּאַרְצֶ֔ךָbe.'ar.Tze.khaH776?Nowעַתָּה֙'a.TahH6258considerדַּ֣עda'H3045and seeוּרְאֵ֔הu.re.'EhH7200whatמָה־mah-H4100answerדָּבָֽר׃ סda.VarH1697I shall returnאָשִׁ֥יב'a.ShivH7725to Him who sentשֹׁלְחִ֖יsho.le.ChiH7971me.”

14Then Davidדָּוִ֛דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Gadגָּ֖דgadH1410, “I am in greatמְאֹ֑דme.'OdH3966distressH6887.Let us nowנָּ֤אna'H4994fallנִפְּלָה־ni.pe.lah-H5307into the handבְיַד־ve.yad-H3027of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,for His merciesרַֽחֲמָ֔יוra.cha.moH7356are greatרַבִּ֣יםra.BimH7227;but do not let me fallאֶפֹּֽלָה׃'e.Po.lahH5307into humanאָדָ֖ם'a.DamH120handsוּבְיַד־u.ve.yad-H3027.”

15Sothe Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068sentוַיִּתֵּ֨ןvai.yi.TenH5414a plagueדֶּ֙בֶר֙de.verH1698upon Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478from the morningמֵהַבֹּ֖קֶרme.ha.Bo.kerH1242untilH5704the appointedמוֹעֵ֑דmo.'EdH4150timeעֵ֣ת'etH6256,and seventyשִׁבְעִ֥יםshiv.'ImH7657thousandאֶ֖לֶף'E.lefH505menאִֽישׁ׃'IshH376of the peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971from Danמִדָּן֙mi.DanH1835to BeershebaH884diedוַיָּ֣מָתvai.Ya.motH4191.

16When the angelהַמַּלְאָ֥ךְ׀ha.mal.'AkhH4397extendedוַיִּשְׁלַח֩vai.yish.LachH7971his handיָד֨וֹya.DoH3027towardJerusalemיְרֽוּשָׁלִַם֮ye.ru.sha.LimH3389to destroyלְשַׁחֲתָהּ֒le.sha.cha.TahH7843it,the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068relentedוַיִּנָּ֤חֶםvai.yi.Na.chemH5162of the disasterH7463and saidוַ֠יֹּאמֶרVai.yo.merH559to the angelלַמַּלְאָ֞ךְla.mal.'AkhH4397who destroyedהַמַּשְׁחִ֤יתha.mash.ChitH7843the peopleבָּעָם֙ba.'AmH5971, “It is enoughרַ֔בRavH7227!Nowעַתָּ֖ה'a.TahH6258dropהֶ֣רֶףHe.refH7503your handיָדֶ֑ךָya.De.khaH3027!”And the angelוּמַלְאַ֤ךְu.mal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068was by the threshingגֹּ֖רֶןGo.renH1637floorH1637of Araunahהָאֲרַ֥וְנָהha.'Or.nahH728the Jebusiteהַיְבֻסִֽי׃ סhay.vu.SiH2983.

17Then Davidדָּוִ֨דda.VidH1732spokeוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559to the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068when he sawבִּרְאֹת֣וֹ׀bir.'o.ToH7200the angelהַמַּלְאָ֣ךְ׀ha.mal.'AkhH4397who was strikingH5221downH5221the peopleבָעָ֗םva.'AmH5971,and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Beholdהִנֵּ֨הhi.NehH2009,it is I who have sinnedחָטָ֙אתִי֙cha.Ta.tiH2398,and it is I who have doneH5753wrongהֶעֱוֵ֔יתִיhe.'e.Vei.tiH5753; buttheseוְאֵ֥לֶּהve.'E.lehH428sheepהַצֹּ֖אןha.TzonH6629,whatמֶ֣הmehH4100have they doneעָשׂ֑וּ'a.SuH6213?Pleaseנָ֥אna'H4994let Your handיָדְךָ֛ya.de.KhaH3027be against me and against my father’sאָבִֽי׃ פ'a.ViH1houseוּבְבֵ֥יתu.ve.VeitH1004!”

18So Gadגָ֥דgadH1410cameוַיָּבֹא־vai.ya.vo'-H935to Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732that dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Goעֲלֵה֙'a.LehH5927upH5927,erectהָקֵ֤םha.KemH6965an altarמִזְבֵּ֔חַmiz.Be.achH4196to the Lordלַֽיהוָה֙la.Yah.wehH3068on the threshingבְּגֹ֖רֶןbe.Go.renH1637floorH1637ofAraunahאֲרַ֥וְנָה'a.ra.ne.yahH728the Jebusiteהַיְבֻסִֽי׃hay.vu.SiH2983.”

19Then Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732wentH5927upH5927in accordance with the wordכִּדְבַר־kid.var-H1697of Gadגָּ֔דGadH1410,justH3512asH3512the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068had commandedצִוָּ֥הtzi.VahH6680.

20And Araunahאֲרַ֗וְנָה'a.Rav.nahH728lookedH8259downוַיַּשְׁקֵ֣ףvai.yash.KefH8259and sawוַיַּ֤רְאvai.Yar'H7200the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428and his servantsעֲבָדָ֔יו'a.va.DavH5650crossingH5674overH5674towardעָלָ֑יו'a.LavH5921him; so Araunahאֲרַ֔וְנָה'a.Rav.nahH728wentH3318outH3318and bowedH2331his faceאַפָּ֖יו'a.PavH639to the groundאָֽרְצָה׃'A.re.tzahH776before the kingלַמֶּ֛לֶךְla.Me.lekhH4428.

21Then Araunahאֲרַ֔וְנָה'a.Rav.nahH728saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whyמַדּ֛וּעַma.Du.a'H4069has my lordאֲדֹנִֽי־'a.do.ni-H113the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428comeבָּ֥אba'H935to his servantעַבְדּ֑וֹav.DoH5650?”And Davidדָּוִ֜דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “To buyלִקְנ֧וֹתlik.NotH7069the threshingהַגֹּ֗רֶןha.Go.renH1637floorH1637from you, in order to buildלִבְנ֤וֹתliv.NotH1129an altarמִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙miz.Be.achH4196to the Lordלַֽיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068,so that the plagueהַמַּגֵּפָ֖הha.ma.ge.FahH4046may bewithdrawnוְתֵעָצַ֥רve.te.'a.TzarH6113from the peopleהָעָֽם׃ha.'AmH5971.”

22Araunahאֲרַ֙וְנָה֙'a.Rav.nahH728then saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732, “Let my lordאֲדֹנִ֥י'a.do.NiH113the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428takeיִקַּ֥חyi.KachH3947and offerוְיַ֛עַלve.Ya.'alH5927upH5927whatH2896isH2896goodהַטּ֣וֹבha.TovH2896in his sightבְּעֵינָ֑יוbe.'ay.noH5869.Lookרְאֵה֙re.'EhH7200, here arethe oxenהַבָּקָ֣רha.ba.KarH1241for the burntלָעֹלָ֔הla.'o.LahH5930offeringH5930,the threshingH4173sledgesH4173and the yokesוּכְלֵ֥יu.khe.LeiH3627of the oxenהַבָּקָ֖רha.ba.KarH1241for the woodלָעֵצִֽים׃la.'e.TzimH6086.

23Everythingהַכֹּ֗לha.KolH3605,O kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,Araunahאֲרַ֥וְנָה'a.Rav.nahH728givesנָתַ֛ןna.TanH5414to the kingלַמֶּ֑לֶךְ סla.Me.lekhH4428.”And Araunahאֲרַ֙וְנָה֙'a.Rav.nahH728saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428, “May the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430beH7521favorableH7521to you.”

24However, the kingהַמֶּ֜לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Araunahאֲרַ֗וְנָה'a.Rav.nahH728, “NoH3808,but I will certainlyקָנ֨וֹka.NoH7069buyאֶקְנֶ֤ה'ek.NehH7069itfrom you for a priceבִּמְחִ֔ירbim.ChirH4242; forI will not offerאַעֲלֶ֛ה'a.'a.LehH5927burntעֹל֣וֹתo.LotH5930offeringsH5930to the Lordלַיהוָ֥הla.Yah.wehH3068my Godאֱלֹהַ֖י'e.lo.HaiH430thatH2600costH2600me nothingH2600.” SoDavidדָּוִ֤דda.VidH1732boughtוַיִּ֨קֶןvai.Yi.kenH7069the threshingהַגֹּ֙רֶן֙ha.Go.renH1637floorH1637and the oxenהַבָּקָ֔רha.ba.KarH1241for fiftyחֲמִשִּֽׁים׃cha.mi.ShimH2572shekelsשְׁקָלִ֥יםshe.ka.LimH8255of silverבְּכֶ֖סֶףbe.Khe.sefH3701.

25Then Davidדָּוִ֤דda.VidH1732builtוַיִּבֶן֩vai.yi.VenH1129thereשָׁ֨םshamH8033an altarמִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙miz.Be.achH4196to the Lordלַֽיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068,and he offeredוַיַּ֥עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927burntעֹל֖וֹתo.LotH5930offeringsH5930and peaceוּשְׁלָמִ֑יםu.she.la.MimH8002offeringsH8002. Andthe Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068respondedH6279toH6279prayerH6279for the landלָאָ֔רֶץla.'A.retzH776,and the plagueהַמַּגֵּפָ֖הha.ma.ge.FahH4046waswithdrawnוַתֵּעָצַ֥רva.te.'a.TzarH6113from Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.
