2He wastwenty-fiveעֶשְׂרִ֨ים וְחָמֵ֤שׁ'es.Rim ve.cha.MeshH6242H2568yearsשָׁנָה֙sha.NahH8141oldבֶּן־ben-H1121when he becameH4427kingבְמָלְכ֔וֹve.ma.le.KhoH4427,and he reignedמָלַ֖ךְma.LakhH4427for twenty-nineוְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים וָתֵ֙שַׁע֙ve.'es.Rim va.Te.sha'H6242H8672yearsשָׁנָ֔הsha.NahH8141in Jerusalemבִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑םbi.ru.sha.LimH3389;and his mother’sאִמּ֔וֹ'i.MoH517nameוְשֵׁ֣םve.ShemH8034was Abiאֲבִ֖י'a.ViH21the daughterבַּת־bat-H1323of Zechariahזְכַרְיָֽה׃ze.khar.YahH2148.
4He removedהֵסִ֣ירhe.SirH5493the highהַבָּמ֗וֹתha.ba.MotH1116placesH1116and smashedH7665the memorialH4676stonesH4676toH7665piecesH7665,and cutוְכָרַ֖תve.kha.RatH3772downH3772theAsherahהָֽאֲשֵׁרָ֑הha.'a.she.RahH842.He also crushedוְכִתַּת֩ve.khi.TatH3807toH3807piecesH3807the bronzeהַנְּחֹ֜שֶׁתha.ne.Cho.shetH5178serpentנְחַ֨שׁne.ChashH5175that Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872had madeעָשָׂ֣ה'a.SahH6213,for untilעַד־'ad-H5704thoseהָהֵ֙מָּה֙ha.He.mahH1992daysהַיָּמִ֤יםhai.ya.MimH3117the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478had been burningH6999incenseH6999to it; and it was calledוַיִּקְרָא־vai.yik.ra'-H7121Nehushtanנְחֻשְׁתָּֽן׃ne.chush.TanH5180.
5He trustedבָּטָ֑חba.TachH982in the Lordבַּיהוָ֥הba.Yah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵֽי־'e.lo.hei-H430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478; andafterוְאַחֲרָ֞יוve.'a.cha.RavH310him there was noH3808one likeכָמֹ֗הוּkha.Mo.huH3644him among allבְּכֹל֙be.KholH3605the kingsמַלְכֵ֣יmal.KheiH4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063,norH3808among thosewhoוַאֲשֶׁ֥רva.'a.SherH834cameH1961beforeלְפָנָֽיו׃le.fa.NavH6440him.
6For heclungוַיִּדְבַּק֙vai.yid.BakH1692to the Lordבַּֽיהוָ֔הba.Yah.wehH3068;he did not desistסָ֖רsarH5493from followingמֵאַֽחֲרָ֑יוme.'a.cha.RavH310Him, but keptוַיִּשְׁמֹר֙vai.yish.MorH8104His commandmentsמִצְוֹתָ֔יוmitz.vo.TavH4687,whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068had commandedצִוָּ֥הtzi.VahH6680Mosesמֹשֶֽׁה׃mo.ShehH4872.
7And the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068was with him; whereverבְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־be.Khol 'a.Sher-H3605H834he wentיֵצֵ֖אye.Tze'H3318he wasH7919successfulH7919. Andhe revoltedוַיִּמְרֹ֥דvai.yim.RodH4775against the kingבְּמֶֽלֶךְ־be.Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֖וּר'a.ShurH804and did not serveעֲבָדֽוֹ׃a.va.DoH5647him.
9Now in the fourthהָֽרְבִיעִית֙ha.re.vi.'ItH7243yearבַּשָּׁנָ֤הba.sha.NahH8141of Kingלַמֶּ֣לֶךְla.Me.lekhH4428Hezekiahחִזְקִיָּ֔הוּchiz.ki.Ya.huH2396,whichהִ֚יאhi'H1931was the seventhהַשְּׁבִיעִ֔יתha.she.vi.'ItH7637yearהַשָּׁנָ֣הha.sha.NahH8141of Hosheaלְהוֹשֵׁ֥עַle.ho.She.a'H1954sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Elahאֵלָ֖ה'e.LahH425kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,Shalmaneserשַׁלְמַנְאֶ֧סֶרshal.man.'E.serH8022kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֛וּר'a.ShurH804marchedעָלָ֞ה'a.LahH5927againstעַל־'al-H5921Samariaשֹׁמְר֖וֹןsho.me.RonH8111and besiegedוַיָּ֥צַר עָלֶֽיהָ׃vai.Ya.tzar 'a.Lei.haH6696H5921it.
10And at the endמִקְצֵה֙mik.TzehH7097of threeשָׁלֹ֣שׁsha.LoshH7969yearsשָׁנִ֔יםsha.NimH8141they capturedוַֽיִּלְכְּדֻ֗הָvai.yil.ke.Du.haH3920it; in the sixthשֵׁ֖שׁsheshH8337yearבִּשְׁנַת־bish.nat-H8141of Hezekiahלְחִזְקִיָּ֑הle.chiz.ki.YahH2396,whichהִ֣יאhi'H1931wasthe ninthתֵּ֗שַׁעTe.sha'H8672yearשְׁנַת־she.nat-H8141of Hosheaלְהוֹשֵׁ֙עַ֙le.ho.She.a'H1954kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,Samariaשֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃sho.me.RonH8111was capturedנִלְכְּדָ֖הnil.ke.DahH3920.
11Then the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֛וּר'a.ShurH804ledH1540Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478intoH1540exileוַיֶּ֧גֶלvai.Ye.gelH1540to Assyriaאַשּׁ֑וּרָה'a.Shu.rahH804,and putוַיַּנְחֵ֞םvai.yan.ChemH5148them inHalahבַּחְלַ֧חbach.LachH2477and on the Haborוּבְחָב֛וֹרu.ve.cha.VorH2249,the riverנְהַ֥רne.HarH5104of Gozanגּוֹזָ֖ןgo.ZanH1470,and in the citiesוְעָרֵ֥יve.'a.ReiH5892of the Medesמָדָֽי׃ma.DaiH4074.
12This happenedbecauseעַ֣ל׀'alH5921H834theydid not obeyשָׁמְע֗וּsha.me.'UH8085the voiceבְּקוֹל֙be.kOlH6963of the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068their Godאֱלֹהֵיהֶ֔ם'e.lo.hei.HemH430,but violatedוַיַּעַבְרוּ֙vai.ya.'av.RuH5674His covenantבְּרִית֔וֹbe.ri.ToH1285,allכָּל־kol-H3605that Mosesמֹשֶׁ֖הmo.ShehH4872the servantעֶ֣בֶד'E.vedH5650of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068had commandedצִוָּ֔הtzi.VahH6680;they would neitherH3808listenשָׁמְע֖וּsha.me.'UH8085norH3808doעָשֽׂוּ׃ פ'a.SuH6213it.
13Now in the fourteenthוּבְאַרְבַּע֩ עֶשְׂרֵ֨הu.ve.'ar.Ba' 'es.RehH702H6240yearשָׁנָ֜הsha.NahH8141of Kingלַמֶּ֣לֶךְla.Me.lekhH4428Hezekiahחִזְקִיָּ֗הchiz.ki.YahH2396,Sennacheribסַנְחֵרִ֤יבsan.che.RivH5576kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁוּר֙'a.ShurH804marchedעָלָ֞ה'a.LahH5927againstעַ֣ל'alH5921allכָּל־kol-H3605the fortifiedהַבְּצֻר֖וֹתha.be.tzu.RotH1219citiesעָרֵ֧י'a.ReiH5892of Judahיְהוּדָ֛הye.hu.DahH3063and seizedוַֽיִּתְפְּשֵֽׂם׃Vai.yit.pe.SemH8610them.
14Then Hezekiahחִזְקִיָּ֣הchiz.ki.YahH2396kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֣הye.hu.DahH3063sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֣חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersto the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁוּר֩׀'a.ShurH804at Lachishלָכִ֨ישָׁה׀la.Khi.shahH3923,sayingלֵאמֹ֤ר׀le.MorH559, “I have doneH2398wrongH2398.Withdrawשׁ֣וּבshuvH7725from me; whateverאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you imposeתִּתֵּ֥ןti.TenH5414on me I will endureאֶשָּׂ֑א'e.Sa'H5375.”So the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֜וּר'a.ShurH804imposedוַיָּ֨שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760on Hezekiahחִזְקִיָּ֣הchiz.ki.YahH2396kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֗הye.hu.DahH3063the payment ofthreeשְׁלֹ֤שׁshe.LoshH7969hundredמֵאוֹת֙me.'OtH3967talentsכִּכַּר־ki.kar-H3603of silverכֶּ֔סֶףKe.sefH3701and thirtyוּשְׁלֹשִׁ֖יםu.she.lo.ShimH7970talentsכִּכַּ֥רki.KarH3603of goldזָהָֽב׃za.HavH2091.
15Hezekiahחִזְקִיָּ֔הchiz.ki.YahH2396then gaveוַיִּתֵּן֙vai.yi.TenH5414himallכָּל־kol-H3605the silverהַכֶּ֖סֶףha.Ke.sefH3701that was foundהַנִּמְצָ֣אha.nim.Tza'H4672in the houseבֵית־veit-H1004of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,and in the treasuriesוּבְאֹצְר֖וֹתu.ve.'o.tze.RotH214of the king’sהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004.
16At that timeבָּעֵ֣תba.'EtH6256Hezekiahחִזְקִיָּ֜הchiz.ki.YahH2396cutקִצַּ֨ץki.TzatzH7112offH7112the gold fromthe doorsדַּלְת֨וֹתdal.TotH1817of the templeהֵיכַ֤לhei.KhalH1964of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068, and fromthe doorpostsH539,whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834Hezekiahחִזְקִיָּ֖הchiz.ki.YahH2396kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063had overlaidצִפָּ֔הtzi.PahH6823,and he gaveוַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖םvai.yi.te.NemH5414it to the kingלְמֶ֥לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428of Assyriaאַשּֽׁוּר׃ פ'a.ShurH804.
17Then the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֡וּר'a.ShurH804sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֣חvai.yish.LachH7971Tartanתַּרְתָּ֥ןtar.TanH8661,Rab-sarisH7249,and RabshakehH7262from Lachishלָכִ֜ישׁla.KhishH3923to Kingהַמֶּ֧לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Hezekiahחִזְקִיָּ֛הוּchiz.ki.Ya.huH2396with a largeכָּבֵ֖דka.VedH3515armyבְּחֵ֥ילbe.CheilH2428to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָ֑םye.ru.sha.LimH3389.So they wentH5927upH5927and cameוַיָּבֹ֣אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֔םye.ru.sha.LimH3389.And when they wentH5927upH5927,they cameוַיָּבֹ֗אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935and stoodוַיַּֽעַמְדוּ֙vai.ya.'am.DuH5975by theconduitבִּתְעָלַת֙bit.'a.LatH8585of the upperהָֽעֶלְיוֹנָ֔הha.'el.yo.NahH5945poolהַבְּרֵכָ֣הha.be.re.KhahH1295,whichאֲשֶׁ֕ר'a.SherH834is on the roadבִּמְסִלַּ֖תbim.si.LatH4546of thefuller’sכוֹבֵֽס׃kho.VesH3526fieldשְׂדֵ֥הse.DehH7704.
18Then they calledוַֽיִּקְרְאוּ֙vai.yik.re.'UH7121to the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428, andEliakimאֶלְיָקִ֥ים'el.ya.KimH471the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Hilkiahחִלְקִיָּ֖הוּchil.ki.Ya.huH2518,whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834was inH5921chargeH5921ofH5921the householdהַבָּ֑יִתha.Ba.yitH1004,Shebnahוְשֶׁבְנָה֙ve.shev.NahH7644the scribeH5613,and Joahוְיוֹאָ֥חve.yo.'AchH3098the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Asaphאָסָ֖ף'a.SafH623the secretaryH4206,wentH3318outH3318to them.
