24Then the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֡וּר'a.ShurH804broughtוַיָּבֵ֣אvai.ya.Ve'H935peoplefrom Babylonמִבָּבֶ֡לmi.ba.VelH894,Cuthahוּ֠מִכּוּ֠תָהu.Mi.ku.tahH3575,Avvaוּמֵעַוָּ֤אu.me.'a.Va'H5755,Hamathוּמֵֽחֲמָת֙u.me.cha.MatH2574,and Sepharvaimוּסְפַרְוַ֔יִםu.se.far.Va.yimH5617,and settledוַיֹּ֙שֶׁב֙vai.Yo.shevH3427themin the citiesבְּעָרֵ֣יbe.'a.ReiH5892of Samariaשֹֽׁמְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111inH8478placeתַּ֖חַתTa.chatH8478ofH8478the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478.So they tookH3423possessionוַיִּֽרְשׁוּ֙vai.yir.ShuH3423of Samariaשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111and livedוַיֵּֽשְׁב֖וּvai.ye.she.VuH3427in its citiesבְּעָרֶֽיהָ׃be.'a.Rei.haH5892.
25And at the beginningבִּתְחִלַּת֙bit.chi.LatH8462of their livingשִׁבְתָּ֣םshiv.TamH3427thereשָׁ֔םShamH8033, theydid not fearיָרְא֖וּya.re.'UH3372the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068;therefore the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068sentוַיְשַׁלַּ֨חvay.sha.LachH7971lionsהָ֣אֲרָי֔וֹתha.'a.ra.YotH738among them that were killingהֹרְגִ֖יםho.re.GimH2026some of them.
26So they spokeוַיֹּאמְר֗וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to the kingלְמֶ֣לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428of Assyriaאַשּׁוּר֮'a.ShurH804,sayingלֵאמֹר֒le.MorH559, “The nationsהַגּוֹיִ֗םha.go.YimH1471whomאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834you have takenH1540intoH1540exileהִגְלִ֙יתָ֙hig.Li.taH1540and settledוַתּ֙וֹשֶׁב֙va.To.o.shevH3427in the citiesבְּעָרֵ֣יbe.'a.ReiH5892of Samariaשֹׁמְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111do not knowיָֽדְע֔וּya.de.'UH3045the customמִשְׁפַּ֖טmish.PatH4941of the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776;so He has sentוַיְשַׁלַּח־vay.sha.lach-H7971lionsהָאֲרָי֗וֹתha.'a.ra.YotH738among them, and beholdוְהִנָּם֙ve.hi.NamH2009,they are killingמְמִיתִ֣יםme.mi.TimH4191them becauseכַּאֲשֶׁר֙ka.'a.SherH834they do not knowיֹדְעִ֔יםyo.de.'ImH3045the customמִשְׁפַּ֖טmish.PatH4941of the Godאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.”
27Then the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֜וּר'a.ShurH804issuedH6680commandsוַיְצַ֨וvay.TzavH6680,sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, “Takeהֹלִ֤יכוּho.Li.khuH1980oneאֶחָ֤ד'e.ChadH259of the priestsמֵהַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙me.ha.ko.ha.NimH3548thereH8033whomאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834you ledH1540intoH1540exileהִגְלִיתֶ֣םhig.li.TemH1540, and havehim goוְיֵלְכ֖וּve.ye.le.KhuH1980and liveוְיֵ֣שְׁבוּve.Ye.she.vuH3427thereH8033;and have him teachוְיֹרֵ֕םve.yo.RemH3384them the customמִשְׁפַּ֖טmish.PatH4941of the Godאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.”
28So oneאֶחָ֣ד'e.ChadH259of the priestsמֵהַכֹּהֲנִ֗יםme.ha.ko.ha.NimH3548whomאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834they had ledH1540intoH1540exileהִגְלוּ֙hig.LuH1540from Samariaמִשֹּׁ֣מְר֔וֹןmi.Sho.me.RonH8111cameוַיָּבֹ֞אvai.ya.Vo'H935and livedוַיֵּ֖שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427in BethelH1008,and taughtמוֹרֶ֣הmo.RehH3384them howאֵ֖יךְ'eikhH349they were to fearיִֽירְא֥וּyi.re.'UH3372the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.
29But everyגּ֥וֹיGoyH1471nationגּ֖וֹיGoyH1471was stillmakingעֹשִׂ֔ים'o.SimH6213godsאֱלֹהָ֑יו'e.lo.HavH430of its own, and they putוַיַּנִּ֣יחוּ׀vai.ya.Ni.chuH5117themin the housesבְּבֵ֣יתbe.VeitH1004of the highהַבָּמ֗וֹתha.ba.MotH1116placesH1116whichאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834the peopleH8118ofH8118SamariaH8118had madeעָשׂוּ֙'a.SuH6213,everyגּ֥וֹיGoyH1471nationגּוֹי֙goyH1471in their citiesבְּעָ֣רֵיהֶ֔םbe.'A.rei.HemH5892in whichאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834they livedיֹשְׁבִ֖יםyo.she.VimH3427.
31and the AvvitesH5757madeעָשׂ֥וּ'a.SuH6213Nibhazנִבְחַ֖זniv.ChazH5026and Tartakתַּרְתָּ֑קtar.TakH8662; andthe Sepharvitesוְהַסְפַרְוִ֗יםve.has.far.VimH5616were burningשֹׂרְפִ֤יםso.re.FimH8313their childrenבְּנֵיהֶם֙be.nei.HemH1121in the fireבָּאֵ֔שׁba.'EshH784toAdrammelechלְאַדְרַמֶּ֥לֶךְle.'ad.ra.Me.lekhH152and Anammelechוַֽעֲנַמֶּ֖לֶךְva.'a.na.Me.lekhH6048,the godsאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.ahH430ofSepharvaimסְפַרְוָֽיִם׃se.fa.rimH5617.
32They also fearedH3372the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068andappointedוַיַּעֲשׂ֨וּvai.ya.'a.SuH6213from their entireH7098populationH7098priestsכֹּהֲנֵ֣יko.ha.NeiH3548of the highבָמ֔וֹתva.MotH1116placesH1116,who actedעֹשִׂ֥ים'o.SimH6213for them in the housesבְּבֵ֥יתbe.VeitH1004of the highהַבָּמֽוֹת׃ha.ba.MotH1116placesH1116.
33They fearedH3372the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,yet they were servingעֹֽבְדִ֔ים'oe.DimH5647their own godsאֱלֹֽהֵיהֶם֙'e.lo.hei.HemH430in accordance with the customכְּמִשְׁפַּט֙ke.mish.PatH4941of the nationsהַגּוֹיִ֔םha.go.YimH1471from among whomאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834they had been takenH1540intoH1540exileהִגְל֥וּhig.LuH1540.
34To thisהַזֶּה֙ha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֤וֹםhai.YomH3117they actעֹשִׂ֔ים'o.SimH6213in accordance with the earlierהָרִֽאשֹׁנִ֑יםha.ri.sho.NimH7223customsכַּמִּשְׁפָּטִ֖יםka.mish.pa.TimH4941:they do not fearH3372the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,norH369do theyfollowעֹשִׂ֗ים'o.SimH6213their statutesכְּחֻקֹּתָם֙ke.chu.ko.TamH2708,their ordinancesוּכְמִשְׁפָּטָ֔םu.khe.mish.pa.TamH4941,the Lawוְכַתּוֹרָ֣הve.kha.to.RahH8451,or the commandmentsוְכַמִּצְוָ֗הve.kha.mitz.VahH4687whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068commandedצִוָּ֤הtzi.VahH6680the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Jacobיַעֲקֹ֔בya.'a.KoH3290,whomאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834He namedשָׂ֥ם שְׁמ֖וֹsam she.MoH7760H8034Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.
35The Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068madeוַיִּכְרֹ֨תvai.yikh.RotH3772a covenantבְּרִ֔יתbe.RitH1285with them and commandedוַיְצַוֵּ֣םvay.tza.VemH6680them, sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “You shall not fearתִֽירְא֖וּti.re.'UH3372otherאֲחֵרִ֑ים'a.che.RimH312godsאֱלֹהִ֣ים'E.lo.HimH430,norH3808bowH2331downH2331to them, norH3808serveתַעַבְד֔וּםta.'av.DumH5647them, norH3808sacrificeתִזְבְּח֖וּtiz.be.ChuH2076to them.
36But the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068,whoאֲשֶׁר֩'a.SherH834broughtH5927you upH5927from the landמֵאֶ֧רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֛יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714with greatגָּד֛וֹלga.DolH1419powerבְּכֹ֧חַbe.Kho.achH3581and withan outstretchedנְטוּיָ֖הne.tu.YahH5186armוּבִזְר֥וֹעַu.viz.Ro.a'H2220,Him you shall fearתִירָ֑אוּti.Ra.'uH3372,and to Him you shall bowH2331downH2331,and to Him you shall sacrificeתִזְבָּֽחוּ׃tiz.Ba.chuH2076.
