24The kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֡וּר'a.ShurH804broughtוַיָּבֵ֣אvai.ya.Ve'H935menfrom Babylonמִבָּבֶ֡לmi.ba.VelH894and from Cuthahוּ֠מִכּוּ֠תָהu.Mi.ku.tahH3575and fromAvvaוּמֵעַוָּ֤אu.me.'a.Va'H5755and fromHamathוּמֵֽחֲמָת֙u.me.cha.MatH2574and Sepharvaimוּסְפַרְוַ֔יִםu.se.far.Va.yimH5617,and settledוַיֹּ֙שֶׁב֙vai.Yo.shevH3427themin the citiesבְּעָרֵ֣יbe.'a.ReiH5892of Samariaשֹֽׁמְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111in placeתַּ֖חַתTa.chatH8478of the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478.So they possessedוַיִּֽרְשׁוּ֙vai.yir.ShuH3423Samariaשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111and livedוַיֵּֽשְׁב֖וּvai.ye.she.VuH3427in its citiesבְּעָרֶֽיהָ׃be.'a.Rei.haH5892.

25At the beginningבִּתְחִלַּת֙bit.chi.LatH8462of their livingשִׁבְתָּ֣םshiv.TamH3427thereשָׁ֔םShamH8033, theydid not fearיָרְא֖וּya.re.'UH3372the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068;therefore the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068sentוַיְשַׁלַּ֨חvay.sha.LachH7971lionsהָ֣אֲרָי֔וֹתha.'a.ra.YotH738among them which killedהֹרְגִ֖יםho.re.GimH2026some of them.

26So they spokeוַיֹּאמְר֗וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to the kingלְמֶ֣לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428of Assyriaאַשּׁוּר֮'a.ShurH804,sayingלֵאמֹר֒le.MorH559, “The nationsהַגּוֹיִ֗םha.go.YimH1471whomאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834you have carriedH1540awayH1540into exileהִגְלִ֙יתָ֙hig.Li.taH1540in the citiesבְּעָרֵ֣יbe.'a.ReiH5892of Samariaשֹׁמְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111do not knowיָֽדְע֔וּya.de.'UH3045the customמִשְׁפַּ֖טmish.PatH4941of the godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776;so he has sentוַיְשַׁלַּח־vay.sha.lach-H7971lionsהָאֲרָי֗וֹתha.'a.ra.YotH738among them, and beholdוְהִנָּם֙ve.hi.NamH2009,they killמְמִיתִ֣יםme.mi.TimH4191them becauseכַּאֲשֶׁר֙ka.'a.SherH834they do not knowיֹדְעִ֔יםyo.de.'ImH3045the customמִשְׁפַּ֖טmish.PatH4941of the godאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.”

27Then the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֜וּר'a.ShurH804commandedוַיְצַ֨וvay.TzavH6680,sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, “Takeהֹלִ֤יכוּho.Li.khuH1980thereH8033oneאֶחָ֤ד'e.ChadH259of the priestsמֵהַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙me.ha.ko.ha.NimH3548whomאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834you carriedH1540awayH1540intoexileהִגְלִיתֶ֣םhig.li.TemH1540and lethim goוְיֵלְכ֖וּve.ye.le.KhuH1980and liveוְיֵ֣שְׁבוּve.Ye.she.vuH3427thereH8033;and let him teachוְיֹרֵ֕םve.yo.RemH3384them the customמִשְׁפַּ֖טmish.PatH4941of the godאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.”

28So oneאֶחָ֣ד'e.ChadH259of the priestsמֵהַכֹּהֲנִ֗יםme.ha.ko.ha.NimH3548whomאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834they had carriedH1540awayH1540into exileהִגְלוּ֙hig.LuH1540from Samariaמִשֹּׁ֣מְר֔וֹןmi.Sho.me.RonH8111cameוַיָּבֹ֞אvai.ya.Vo'H935and livedוַיֵּ֖שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427at BethelH1008,and taughtמוֹרֶ֣הmo.RehH3384them howאֵ֖יךְ'eikhH349they should fearיִֽירְא֥וּyi.re.'UH3372the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

29But everyגּ֥וֹיGoyH1471nationגּ֖וֹיGoyH1471still madeעֹשִׂ֔ים'o.SimH6213godsאֱלֹהָ֑יו'e.lo.HavH430of its own and putוַיַּנִּ֣יחוּ׀vai.ya.Ni.chuH5117themin the housesבְּבֵ֣יתbe.VeitH1004of the highהַבָּמ֗וֹתha.ba.MotH1116placesH1116whichאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834the peopleH8118of SamariaH8118had madeעָשׂוּ֙'a.SuH6213,everyגּ֥וֹיGoyH1471nationגּוֹי֙goyH1471in their citiesבְּעָ֣רֵיהֶ֔םbe.'A.rei.HemH5892in whichאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834they livedיֹשְׁבִ֖יםyo.she.VimH3427.

30The menH376of Babylonבָבֶ֗לva.VelH894madeעָשׂוּ֙'a.SuH6213Succoth-benothH5524,the menH376of Cuthכ֔וּתKhutH3575madeעָשׂ֖וּ'a.SuH6213Nergalנֵֽרְגַ֑לne.re.GalH5370,the menH376of Hamathחֲמָ֖תcha.MatH2574madeעָשׂ֥וּ'a.SuH6213Ashimaאֲשִׁימָֽא׃'a.shi.Ma'H807,

31and the AvvitesH5757madeעָשׂ֥וּ'a.SuH6213Nibhazנִבְחַ֖זniv.ChazH5026and Tartakתַּרְתָּ֑קtar.TakH8662; andthe Sepharvitesוְהַסְפַרְוִ֗יםve.has.far.VimH5616burnedשֹׂרְפִ֤יםso.re.FimH8313their childrenבְּנֵיהֶם֙be.nei.HemH1121in the fireבָּאֵ֔שׁba.'EshH784toAdrammelechלְאַדְרַמֶּ֥לֶךְle.'ad.ra.Me.lekhH152and Anammelechוַֽעֲנַמֶּ֖לֶךְva.'a.na.Me.lekhH6048the godsאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.ahH430ofSepharvaimסְפַרְוָֽיִם׃se.fa.rimH5617.

32They also fearedH3372the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068andappointedוַיַּעֲשׂ֨וּvai.ya.'a.SuH6213from amongמִקְצוֹתָם֙mik.tzo.TamH7098themselves priestsכֹּהֲנֵ֣יko.ha.NeiH3548of the highבָמ֔וֹתva.MotH1116placesH1116,who actedעֹשִׂ֥ים'o.SimH6213for them in the housesבְּבֵ֥יתbe.VeitH1004of the highהַבָּמֽוֹת׃ha.ba.MotH1116placesH1116.

33They fearedH3372the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068and servedעֹֽבְדִ֔ים'oe.DimH5647their own godsאֱלֹֽהֵיהֶם֙'e.lo.hei.HemH430according to the customכְּמִשְׁפַּט֙ke.mish.PatH4941of the nationsהַגּוֹיִ֔םha.go.YimH1471from among whomאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834they had been carriedH1540awayH1540into exileהִגְל֥וּhig.LuH1540.

35with whom the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068madeוַיִּכְרֹ֨תvai.yikh.RotH3772a covenantבְּרִ֔יתbe.RitH1285and commandedוַיְצַוֵּ֣םvay.tza.VemH6680them, sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “You shall not fearתִֽירְא֖וּti.re.'UH3372otherאֲחֵרִ֑ים'a.che.RimH312godsאֱלֹהִ֣ים'E.lo.HimH430,norH3808bowתִשְׁתַּחֲו֣וּtish.ta.cha.VuH7812downH7812yourselves to them norH3808serveתַעַבְד֔וּםta.'av.DumH5647them norH3808sacrificeתִזְבְּח֖וּtiz.be.ChuH2076to them.

36But the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068,whoאֲשֶׁר֩'a.SherH834broughtהֶעֱלָ֨הhe.'e.LahH5927you up from the landמֵאֶ֧רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֛יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714with greatגָּד֛וֹלga.DolH1419powerבְּכֹ֧חַbe.Kho.achH3581and withan outstretchedנְטוּיָ֖הne.tu.YahH5186armוּבִזְר֥וֹעַu.viz.Ro.a'H2220,Him you shall fearתִירָ֑אוּti.Ra.'uH3372,and to Him you shall bowתִֽשְׁתַּחֲו֖וּtish.ta.cha.VuH7812yourselves downH7812,and to Him you shall sacrificeתִזְבָּֽחוּ׃tiz.Ba.chuH2076.

37The statutesהַחֻקִּ֨יםha.chu.KimH2706and the ordinancesהַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֜יםha.mish.pa.TimH4941and the lawוְהַתּוֹרָ֤הve.ha.to.RahH8451and the commandmentוְהַמִּצְוָה֙ve.ha.mitz.VahH4687whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834He wroteכָּתַ֣בka.TavH3789for you,you shall observeתִּשְׁמְר֥וּןtish.me.RunH8104to doלַעֲשׂ֖וֹתla.'a.SotH6213foreverכָּל־ הַיָּמִ֑יםkol- hai.ya.MimH3605 H3117;and you shall not fearתִֽירְא֖וּti.re.'UH3372otherאֲחֵרִֽים׃'a.che.RimH312godsאֱלֹהִ֥ים'E.lo.HimH430.

38The covenantוְהַבְּרִ֛יתve.ha.be.RitH1285that I have madeכָּרַ֥תִּיka.Ra.tiH3772with you,you shall not forgetתִשְׁכָּ֑חוּtish.Ka.chuH7911,norH3808shall you fearתִֽירְא֖וּti.re.'UH3372otherאֲחֵרִֽים׃'a.che.RimH312godsאֱלֹהִ֥ים'E.lo.HimH430.

39But the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם'e.lo.hei.KhemH430you shall fearתִּירָ֑אוּti.Ra.'uH3372;and He will deliverיַצִּ֣ילya.TzilH5337you from the handמִיַּ֖דmi.YadH3027of allכָּל־kol-H3605your enemiesH340.”

40However, they did not listenשָׁמֵ֑עוּsha.Me.'uH8085,but they didעֹשִֽׂים׃'o.SimH6213according to their earlierהָֽרִאשׁ֖וֹןha.ri.ShonH7223customכְּמִשְׁפָּטָ֥םke.mish.pa.TamH4941.

41So while theseהָאֵ֗לֶּהha.'E.lehH428nationsהַגּוֹיִ֣םha.go.YimH1471fearedH3372the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,they also servedעֹֽבְדִ֑ים'oe.DimH5647theiridolsפְּסִֽילֵיהֶ֖םpe.si.lei.HemH6456;their childrenH1121likewiseגַּם־gam-H1571and their grandchildrenH1121,as their fathersאֲבֹתָם֙'a.vo.TamH1didעָשׂ֤וּ'a.SuH6213,so they doעֹשִׂ֔ים'o.SimH6213to thisהַזֶּֽה׃ פha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117.
