4Then JeremiahH3414 calledH7121 1BaruchH1263 the sonH1121 of NeriahH5374, and BaruchH1263 wroteH3789 on a 23scrollH4039H5612 4at the dictationH6310 of JeremiahH3414 allH3605 the wordsH1697 of the LordH3068 whichH834 He had spokenH1696 to him. 5JeremiahH3414 commandedH6680 BaruchH1263, sayingH559, “I am 56restrictedH6113; I cannotH3201H3808 goH935 into the houseH1004 of the LordH3068. 6So you goH935 and 7readH7121 from the scrollH4039 whichH834 you have 8writtenH3789 9at my dictationH6310 the wordsH1697 of the LordH3068 10to the peopleH5971 in the Lord’sH3068 houseH1004 on a 11fastH6685 dayH3117. And alsoH1571 you shall readH7121 them 12to allH3605 the people of JudahH3063 who comeH935 from their citiesH5892. 713PerhapsH194 their supplicationH8467 will 14comeH5307 beforeH6440 the LordH3068, and everyoneH376 will turnH7725 from his evilH7451 wayH1870, for 15greatH1419 is the angerH639 and the wrathH2534 that the LordH3068 has pronouncedH1696 againstH413 thisH2088 peopleH5971.” 8BaruchH1263 the sonH1121 of NeriahH5374 didH6213 according to allH3605 that JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 commandedH6680 him, 16readingH7121 from the bookH5612 the wordsH1697 of the LordH3068 in the Lord’sH3068 houseH1004.

9Now in the 17fifthH2549 yearH8141 of JehoiakimH3079 the sonH1121 of JosiahH2977, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, in the 18ninthH8671 monthH2320, allH3605 the peopleH5971 in JerusalemH3389 and allH3605 the peopleH5971 who 19cameH935 from the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 to JerusalemH3389 proclaimedH7121 a 20fastH6685 beforeH6440 the LordH3068. 10Then BaruchH1263 readH7121 from the bookH5612 the wordsH1697 of JeremiahH3414 in the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 in the 21chamberH3957 of 22GemariahH1587 the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227 the 23scribeH5613, in the upperH5945 courtH2691, at the 24entryH6607 of the NewH2319 GateH8179 of the Lord’sH3068 houseH1004, to allH3605 the peopleH5971.

11Now when 25MicaiahH4321 the sonH1121 of GemariahH1587, the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227, had heardH8085 allH3605 the wordsH1697 of the LordH3068 from the bookH5612, 12he wentH3381 downH3381 to the king’sH4428 houseH1004, into the scribe’sH5613 chamberH3957. And beholdH2009, allH3605 the officialsH8269 were sittingH3427 thereH8033--26ElishamaH476 the scribeH5613, and 27DelaiahH1806 the sonH1121 of ShemaiahH8098, and 28ElnathanH494 the sonH1121 of AchborH5907, and GemariahH1587 the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227, and ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of HananiahH2608, and allH3605 the other officialsH8269. 13MicaiahH4321 29declaredH5046 to them allH3605 the wordsH1697 that he had heardH8085 when BaruchH1263 readH7121 from the bookH5612 to the peopleH5971. 14Then allH3605 the officialsH8269 sentH7971 30JehudiH3065 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418, the sonH1121 of ShelemiahH8018, the sonH1121 of CushiH3570, to BaruchH1263, sayingH559, “TakeH3947 in your handH3027 the scrollH4039 from whichH834 you have readH7121 to the peopleH5971 and comeH1980.” So BaruchH1263 the sonH1121 of NeriahH5374 31tookH3947 the scrollH4039 in his handH3027 and wentH935 to them. 15They saidH559 to him, “SitH3427 downH3427, pleaseH4994, and readH7121 it to us.” So BaruchH1263 32readH7121 it to them. 16When they had heardH8085 allH3605 the wordsH1697, they turnedH6342 in 33fearH6342 oneH376 to anotherH7453 and saidH559 to BaruchH1263, “We will surelyH5046 34reportH5046 allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697 to the kingH4428.” 17And they askedH7592 BaruchH1263, sayingH559, “TellH5046 us, pleaseH4994, 35howH349 did you writeH3789 allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697? Was it 36at his dictationH6310?” 18Then BaruchH1263 saidH559 to them, “He 37dictatedH4480H6310H7121 allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697 to me, and I wroteH3789 them with inkH1773 on the bookH5612.” 19Then the officialsH8269 saidH559 to BaruchH1263, “GoH1980, 38hideH5641 yourself, you and JeremiahH3414, and do not let anyone knowH3045 whereH375 you are.”

20So they wentH935 to the 39kingH4428 in the courtH2691, but they had depositedH6485 the scrollH4039 in the chamberH3957 of 40ElishamaH476 the scribeH5613, and they reportedH5046H241 allH3605 the wordsH1697 to the kingH4428. 21Then the kingH4428 sentH7971 JehudiH3065 to getH3947 the scrollH4039, and he tookH3947 it out of the chamberH3957 of ElishamaH476 the scribeH5613. And JehudiH3065 41readH7121 it to the kingH4428 as well as to allH3605 the officialsH8269 who stoodH5975 besideH4480H5921 the kingH4428. 22Now the kingH4428 was sittingH3427 in the 42winterH2779 houseH1004 in the 43ninthH8671 monthH2320, with a fire burningH1197 in the brazierH254 beforeH6440 him. 23When JehudiH3065 had readH7121 threeH7969 or fourH702 columnsH1817, the king cutH7167 it with a scribe’sH5613 knifeH8593 and 44threwH7993 it into the fireH784 that was in the brazierH254, untilH5704 allH3605 the scrollH4039 was consumedH8552 in the fireH784 that was in the brazierH254. 24Yet the kingH4428 and allH3605 his servantsH5650 who heardH8085 allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697 were 45not afraidH6342, norH3808 did they 46rendH7167 their garmentsH899. 25Even thoughH1571 ElnathanH494 and DelaiahH1806 and GemariahH1587 47pleadedH6293 with the kingH4428 not to burnH8313 the scrollH4039, he would not listenH8085 to them. 26And the kingH4428 commandedH6680 JerahmeelH3396 the king’sH4428 sonH1121, SeraiahH8304 the sonH1121 of AzrielH5837, and ShelemiahH8018 the sonH1121 of AbdeelH5655 to 48seizeH3947 BaruchH1263 the scribeH5613 and JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030, but the 49LordH3068 hidH5641 them.

27Then the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 to JeremiahH3414 afterH310 the kingH4428 had 50burnedH8313 the scrollH4039 and the wordsH1697 whichH834 51BaruchH1263 had writtenH3789 at the dictationH6310 of JeremiahH3414, sayingH559, 28“52TakeH3947 againH7725 anotherH312 scrollH4039 and writeH3789 on it allH3605 the formerH7223 wordsH1697 that were 53on the firstH7223 scrollH4039 whichH834 JehoiakimH3079 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 burnedH8313. 29And concerningH5921 JehoiakimH3079 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 you shall sayH559, ‘ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, “You have 54burnedH8313 thisH2088 scrollH4039, sayingH559, ‘55WhyH4069 have you writtenH3789 on it 56that the 57kingH4428 of BabylonH894 will certainlyH935 comeH935 and destroyH7843 thisH2088 landH776, and will make manH120 and beastH929 to ceaseH7673 from it?’” 30ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 concerningH5921 JehoiakimH3079 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, “He shall haveH1961 58noH3808 one to sitH3427 on the throneH3678 of DavidH1732, and his 59deadH5038 bodyH5038 shall be castH7993 out to the heatH2721 of the dayH3117 and the frostH7140 of the nightH3915. 31I will also 60punishH6485 him and his 61descendantsH2233 and his servantsH5650 for their iniquityH5771, and I will 62bringH935 on them and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 and the menH376 of JudahH3063 allH3605 the calamityH7463 that I have declaredH1696 to them--but they did not listenH8085.”’”

32Then JeremiahH3414 tookH3947 anotherH312 scrollH4039 and gaveH5414 it to BaruchH1263 the sonH1121 of NeriahH5374, the scribeH5613, and he 63wroteH3789 on it at the dictationH6310 of JeremiahH3414 allH3605 the wordsH1697 of the bookH5612 whichH834 JehoiakimH3079 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 had burnedH8313 in the fireH784; and manyH7227 64similar wordsH1697 were addedH3254 to them.
