1 Kings 21:1-19
1Now it cameH1961 about afterH310 theseH428 thingsH1697 that NabothH5022 the JezreeliteH3158 hadH1961 a vineyardH3754 whichH834 was in 1JezreelH3157 besideH681 the palaceH1964 of AhabH256 kingH4428 of SamariaH8111. 2AhabH256 spokeH1696 to NabothH5022, sayingH559, “2GiveH5414 me your vineyardH3754, that I may haveH1961 it for a vegetableH3419 gardenH1588 becauseH3588 it is closeH7138 besideH681 my houseH1004, and I will giveH5414 you a betterH2896 vineyardH3754 thanH4480 it in its placeH8478; ifH518 3you likeH2896H5869, I will giveH5414 you the priceH4242 of 4it in moneyH3701.” 3But NabothH5022 saidH559 to AhabH256, “The LordH3068 forbidH2486 me 5that I should giveH5414 you the inheritanceH5159 of my fathersH1.” 46So AhabH256 cameH935 into his houseH1004 sullenH5620 and vexedH2198 becauseH5921 of the wordH1697 whichH834 NabothH5022 the JezreeliteH3158 had spokenH1696 to him; for he saidH559, “I will not giveH5414 you the inheritanceH5159 of my fathersH1.” And he layH7901 downH7901 on his bedH4296 and turnedH5437 awayH5437 his faceH6440 and ateH398 noH3808 7foodH3899.
5But JezebelH348 his wifeH802 cameH935 to him and saidH1696 to him, “HowH4100 is it that your spiritH7307 is so sullenH5620 that you are not eatingH398 8foodH3899?” 6So he saidH1696 to her, “BecauseH3588 I spokeH1696 to NabothH5022 the JezreeliteH3158 and saidH559 to him, ‘GiveH5414 me your vineyardH3754 for moneyH3701; orH176 else, ifH518 it pleasesH2655 you, I will giveH5414 you a vineyardH3754 in its placeH8478.’ But he saidH559, ‘I will not giveH5414 you my vineyardH3754.’” 7JezebelH348 his wifeH802 saidH559 to him, “9Do you nowH6258 10reignH6213H4410 overH5921 IsraelH3478? AriseH6965, eatH398 breadH3899, and let your heartH3820 be joyfulH3190; I will giveH5414 you the vineyardH3754 of NabothH5022 the JezreeliteH3158.”
811So she wroteH3789 lettersH5612 in Ahab’sH256 nameH8034 and sealedH2856 them with his sealH2368, and sentH7971 lettersH5612 to 12the eldersH2205 and to the noblesH2715 whoH834 were livingH3427 with NabothH5022 in his cityH5892. 9Now she wroteH3789 in the lettersH5612, sayingH559, “ProclaimH7121 a fastH6685 and seatH3427 NabothH5022 at the headH7218 of the peopleH5971; 10and seatH3427 twoH8147 13worthlessH1100 menH376 beforeH5048 him, and let them testifyH5749 against him, sayingH559, ‘14You cursedH1288 GodH430 and the kingH4428.’ Then takeH3318 him out and 15stoneH5619 him 16to deathH4191.”
11So the menH376 of his cityH5892, the eldersH2205 and the noblesH2715 whoH834 livedH3427 in his cityH5892, didH6213 as JezebelH348 had sentH7971 word to them, justH3512 as it was writtenH3789 in the lettersH5612 whichH834 she had sentH7971 them. 12They 17proclaimedH7121 a fastH6685 and seatedH3427 NabothH5022 at the headH7218 of the peopleH5971. 13Then the twoH8147 worthlessH1100 menH376 cameH935 in and satH3427 beforeH5048 him; and the worthlessH1100 menH376 testifiedH5749 against him, even against NabothH5022, beforeH5048 the peopleH5971, sayingH559, “NabothH5022 cursedH1288 GodH430 and the kingH4428.” 18So they tookH3318 him outsideH4480H2351 the cityH5892 and stonedH5619 him 19to deathH4191 with stonesH68. 14Then they sentH7971 word to JezebelH348, sayingH559, “NabothH5022 has been stonedH5619 and is deadH4191.”
15When JezebelH348 heardH8085 that NabothH5022 had been stonedH5619 and was deadH4191, JezebelH348 saidH559 to AhabH256, “AriseH6965, takeH3423 possessionH3423 of the vineyardH3754 of NabothH5022, the JezreeliteH3158, whichH834 he refusedH3985 to giveH5414 you for moneyH3701; for NabothH5022 is not aliveH2416, but deadH4191.” 16When AhabH256 heardH8085 that NabothH5022 was deadH4191, AhabH256 aroseH6965 to goH3381 downH3381 to the vineyardH3754 of NabothH5022 the JezreeliteH3158, to takeH3423 possessionH3423 of it.
17Then the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 to ElijahH452 the TishbiteH8664, sayingH559, 18“AriseH6965, goH3381 downH3381 to meetH7122 AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, 20whoH834 is in SamariaH8111; beholdH2009, he is in the vineyardH3754 of NabothH5022 whereH834H8033 he has goneH3381 downH3381 to takeH3423 possessionH3423 of it. 19You shall speakH1696 to him, sayingH559, ‘ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, “21Have you murderedH7523 and alsoH1571 takenH3423 possessionH3423?”’ And you shall speakH1696 to him, sayingH559, ‘ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, “22In the placeH4725 whereH834 the dogsH3611 lickedH3952 up the bloodH1818 of NabothH5022 the dogsH3611 will lickH3952 up your bloodH1818, evenH1571 yoursH859.”’”
