2Now when Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּ֔הוּye.chiz.ki.Ya.huH2396sawוַיַּרְא֙vai.yaR'H7200that Sennacheribסַנְחֵרִ֑יבsan.che.RivH5576had comeבָ֖אva'H935and thathe intendedוּפָנָ֕יוu.fa.NavH6440to make warלַמִּלְחָמָ֖הla.mil.cha.MahH4421on Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ye.ru.sha.LimH3389,

3he decidedוַיִּוָּעַ֗ץvai.yi.va.'AtzH3289with his officersשָׂרָיו֙sa.RavH8269and his warriorsוְגִבֹּרָ֔יוve.gi.bo.RavH1368to cutH5640offH5640the supply ofwaterמֵימֵ֣יmei.MeiH4325from the springsH5871whichאֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834wereoutsideמִח֣וּץmi.ChutzH4480 H2351the cityלָעִ֑ירla.'IrH5892,and they helpedוַֽיַּעְזְרֽוּהוּ׃Vai.ya'.ze.Ru.huH5826him.

4So manyרָ֔בRavH7227peopleעַם־'am-H5971assembledוַיִּקָּבְצ֣וּvai.yi.ka.ve.TzuH6908and stoppedוַֽיִּסְתְּמוּ֙vai.yis.te.MuH5640up allכָּל־kol-H3605the springsהַמַּעְיָנ֔וֹתha.ma'.ya.NotH4599andthe streamהַנַּ֛חַלha.Na.chalH5158which flowedהַשּׁוֹטֵ֥ףha.sho.TefH7857throughבְּתוֹךְ־be.tokh-H8432the regionהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Whyלָ֤מָּהLa.mahH4100should the kingsמַלְכֵ֣יmal.KheiH4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֔וּר'a.ShurH804comeיָב֙וֹאוּ֙ya.Vo.'uH935and findוּמָצְא֖וּu.ma.tze.'UH4672abundantרַבִּֽים׃ra.BimH7227waterמַ֥יִםMa.yimH4325?”

5And he tookH2388courageH2388andrebuiltוַיִּבֶן֩vai.yi.VenH1129allכָּל־kol-H3605the wallהַחוֹמָ֨הha.cho.MahH2346that had been brokenH6555downהַפְּרוּצָ֜הha.pe.ru.TzahH6555anderectedוַיַּ֣עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927towersהַמִּגְדָּל֗וֹתha.mig.da.LotH4026on it, and builtanotherאַחֶ֔רֶת'a.Che.retH312outsideוְלַח֙וּצָה֙ve.la.Chu.tzahH2351wallהַחוֹמָ֣הha.cho.MahH2346and strengthenedH2388theMilloהַמִּלּ֖וֹאha.mi.Lo'H4407inthe cityעִ֣יר'irH5892of Davidדָּוִ֑ידda.VidH1732,and madeוַיַּ֥עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213weaponsשֶׁ֛לַחShe.lachH7973and shieldsוּמָגִנִּֽים׃u.ma.gi.NimH4043in greatH7230numberH7230.

6He appointedוַיִּתֵּ֛ןvai.yi.TenH5414militaryמִלְחָמ֖וֹתmil.cha.MotH4421officersשָׂרֵ֥יsa.ReiH8269overעַל־'al-H5921the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971and gatheredוַיִּקְבְּצֵ֣םvai.yik.be.TzemH6908them to him in the squareרְחוֹב֙re.chOvH7339at the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892gateשַׁ֣עַרSha.'arH8179, andspokeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696encouraginglyעַל־ לְבָבָ֖ם'al- le.va.VamH5921 H3824to them, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

8With him is onlyan armזְר֣וֹעַze.Ro.a'H2220of fleshבָּשָׂ֔רba.SarH1320, butwith us is the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙'e.lo.Hei.nuH430to helpלְעָזְרֵ֔נוּle.'a.ze.Re.nuH5826us and to fightוּלְהִלָּחֵ֖םu.le.hi.la.ChemH3898our battlesמִלְחֲמֹתֵ֑נוּmil.cha.mo.Te.nuH4421.”And the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971reliedוַיִּסָּמְכ֣וּvai.yi.sa.me.KhuH5564on the wordsדִּבְרֵ֖יdiv.ReiH1697of Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּ֥הוּye.chiz.ki.Ya.huH2396kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָֽה׃ פye.hu.DahH3063.

Sennacherib Undermines Hezekiah

10“Thusכֹּ֣הkohH3541saysאָמַ֔ר'a.MarH559Sennacheribסַנְחֵרִ֖יבsan.che.RivH5576kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֑וּר'a.ShurH804, ‘On whatמָה֙mahH4100are you trustingבֹּטְחִ֔יםbo.te.ChimH982that you are remainingוְיֹשְׁבִ֥יםve.yo.she.VimH3427in Jerusalemבִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃bi.ru.sha.LimH3389under siegeבְּמָצ֖וֹרbe.ma.TzorH4692?

17He also wroteכָּתַ֔בka.TavH3789lettersוּסְפָרִ֣יםu.se.fa.RimH5612to insultלְחָרֵ֕ףle.cha.RefH2778the Lordלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and to speakוְלֵֽאמֹ֨רve.le.MorH559againstעָלָ֜יו'a.LavH5921Him, sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, “As the godsכֵּֽאלֹהֵ֞יke.lo.HeiH430of the nationsגּוֹיֵ֤go.YeH1471of the landsהָאֲרָצוֹת֙ha.'a.ra.tzOtH776have not deliveredהִצִּ֤ילוּhi.Tzi.luH5337their peopleעַמָּם֙'a.MamH5971from my handמִיָּדִ֔יmi.ya.DiH3027,soכֵּ֣ןkenH3651the Godאֱלֹהֵ֧י'e.lo.HeiH430of Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּ֛הוּye.chiz.ki.Ya.huH2396will not deliverיַצִּ֞ילya.TzilH5337His peopleעַמּ֖וֹa.MoH5971from my handמִיָּדִֽי׃mi.ya.DiH3027.”

18They calledוַיִּקְרְא֨וּvai.yik.re.'UH7121this out with a loudגָּד֜וֹלga.DolH1419voiceבְקוֹל־ve.kol-H6963in the languageH3066of JudahH3066to the peopleעַ֤ם'amH5971of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ye.ru.sha.LimH3389whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834were on the wallהַֽחוֹמָ֔הha.cho.MahH2346,to frightenלְיָֽרְאָ֖םle.ya.re.'AmH3372and terrifyוּֽלְבַהֲלָ֑םu.le.va.ha.LamH926them, soלְמַ֖עַןle.Ma.'anH4616that they might takeיִלְכְּד֥וּyil.ke.DuH3920the cityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892.

19They spokeוַֽיְדַבְּר֔וּvay.da.be.RuH1696of the Godאֱלֹהֵ֖י'e.lo.HeiH430of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָ֑םye.ru.sha.LimH3389as ofthe godsאֱלֹהֵי֙'e.lo.HeiH430of the peoplesעַמֵּ֣י'a.MeiH5971of the earthהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776,the workמַעֲשֵׂ֖הma.'a.SehH4639of men’sהָאָדָֽם׃ סha.'a.DamH120handsיְדֵ֥יye.DeiH3027.

Hezekiah’s Prayer Is Answered

20But Kingהַמֶּ֗לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּ֣הוּye.chiz.ki.Ya.huH2396and Isaiahוִֽישַֽׁעְיָ֧הוּvi.sha'.Ya.huH3470the prophetהַנָּבִ֖יאha.na.Vi'H5030,the sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Amozאָמ֛וֹץ'a.MotzH531,prayedוַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֞לvai.yit.pa.LelH6419aboutעַל־'al-H5921thisH2088and criedוַֽיִּזְעֲק֖וּvai.yiz.'a.KuH2199out to heavenהַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ פha.sha.Ma.yimH8064.

21And the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971an angelמַלְאָ֔ךְmal.'AkhH4397who destroyedוַיַּכְחֵ֞דvai.yakh.ChedH3582everyכָּל־kol-H3605mightyגִּבּ֥וֹרgi.BorH1368warriorH1368,commanderוְנָגִ֣ידve.na.GidH5057and officerוְשָׂ֔רve.SarH8269in the campבְּמַחֲנֵ֖הbe.ma.cha.NehH4264of the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֑וּר'a.ShurH804.So he returnedוַיָּשָׁב֩vai.ya.ShavH7725in shameבְּבֹ֨שֶׁת פָּנִ֜יםbe.Vo.shet pa.NimH1322 H6440to his own landלְאַרְצ֗וֹle.'ar.TzoH776.And when he had enteredוַיָּבֹא֙vai.ya.Vo'H935the templeבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of his godאֱלֹהָ֔יו'e.lo.HavH430,someH4480of his ownH4578childrenוּמִֽיצִיאֵ֣יu.mi.tzi.'ovH3329 H4578killedהִפִּילֻ֥הוּhi.pi.Lu.huH5307him thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033with the swordבֶחָֽרֶב׃ve.Cha.revH2719.

22So the Lordיְהוָ֨הYah.wehH3068savedוַיּוֹשַׁע֩vai.yo.Sha'H3467Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּ֜הוּye.chiz.ki.Ya.huH2396and the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֣יyo.she.VeiH3427of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֗םye.ru.sha.LimH3389from the handמִיַּ֛דmi.YadH3027of Sennacheribסַנְחֵרִ֥יבsan.che.RivH5576the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֖וּר'a.ShurH804and from the handוּמִיַּד־u.mi.yad-H3027of allכֹּ֑לKolH3605others, andguidedוַֽיְנַהֲלֵ֖םvay.na.ha.LemH5095them on everyH5439sideH5439.

23Andmanyוְ֠רַבִּיםVe.ra.bimH7227were bringingמְבִיאִ֨יםme.vi.'ImH935giftsמִנְחָ֤הmin.ChahH4503to the Lordלַיהוָה֙la.Yah.wehH3068at Jerusalemלִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םli.Ru.sha.LimH3389and choiceH4030presentsH4030to Hezekiahלִֽיחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּli.chiz.ki.Ya.huH2396kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063, so thathe was exaltedוַיִּנַּשֵּׂ֛אvai.yin.na.Se'H5375in the sightלְעֵינֵ֥יle.'ei.NeiH5869of allכָל־khol-H3605nationsהַגּוֹיִ֖םha.go.YimH1471thereafterמֵאַֽחֲרֵי־ כֵֽן׃ סme.'a.cha.rei- KhenH4480 H310 H3651.

24In thoseהָהֵ֔םha.HemH1992daysבַּיָּמִ֣יםbai.ya.MimH3117Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּye.chiz.ki.Ya.huH2396becameH2470mortallyלָמ֑וּתla.MutH4191illH2470;and he prayedוַיִּתְפַּלֵּל֙vai.yit.pa.LelH6419to the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068, and the Lordspokeוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him and gaveנָ֥תַןNa.tanH5414him a signוּמוֹפֵ֖תu.mo.FetH4159.

25But Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּ֔הוּye.chiz.ki.Ya.huH2396gaveH7725noוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808returnH7725for the benefitכִגְמֻ֤לkhig.MulH1576he receivedH5921,becauseכִּ֥יkiH3588his heartלִבּ֑וֹli.BoH3820wasproudגָבַ֖הּga.VahH1361;therefore wrathקֶ֔צֶףKe.tzefH7110cameוַיְהִ֤יvay.HiH1961on him and on Judahיְהוּדָ֖הye.hu.DahH3063and Jerusalemוִירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃vi.ru.sha.LimH3389.

26However,Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּ֙הוּ֙ye.chiz.ki.Ya.huH2396humbledוַיִּכָּנַ֤עvai.yi.ka.Na'H3665the prideבְּגֹ֣בַהּbe.GoahH1363of his heartלִבּ֔וֹli.BoH3820,both he and the inhabitantsוְיֹשְׁבֵ֣יve.yo.she.VeiH3427of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָ֑םye.ru.sha.LimH3389,so that the wrathקֶ֣צֶףKe.tzefH7110of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068did not comeבָ֤אva'H935on them in the daysבִּימֵ֖יbi.MeiH3117of Hezekiahיְחִזְקִיָּֽהוּ׃ye.chiz.ki.Ya.huH2396.

27Now Hezekiahלִֽיחִזְקִיָּ֛הוּli.chiz.ki.Ya.huH2396hadוַיְהִ֧יvay.HiH1961immenseמְאֹ֑דme.'OdH3966richesעֹ֥שֶׁר'O.sherH6239and honorוְכָב֖וֹדve.kha.VodH3519;and he madeעָֽשָׂה־'a.sah-H6213for himself treasuriesוְאֹֽצָר֣וֹתve.'o.tza.RotH214for silverלְכֶ֨סֶףle.Khe.sefH3701,goldוּלְזָהָ֜בu.le.za.HavH2091,preciousיְקָרָ֗הye.ka.RahH3368stonesוּלְאֶ֣בֶןu.le.'E.venH68,spicesוְלִבְשָׂמִים֙ve.liv.sa.MimH1314,shieldsוּלְמָ֣גִנִּ֔יםu.le.Ma.gi.NimH4043and allוּלְכֹ֖לu.le.KholH3605kinds of valuableחֶמְדָּֽה׃chem.DahH2532articlesכְּלֵ֥יke.LeiH3627,
