2Then some cameוַיָּבֹ֗אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935and reportedוַיַּגִּ֤ידוּvai.ya.Gi.duH5046to Jehoshaphatלִֽיהוֹשָׁפָט֙li.ho.sha.FatH3092,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “A greatרָ֛בravH7227multitudeהָמ֥וֹןha.MonH1995is comingבָּ֣אba'H935againstעָלֶ֜יךָ'a.Lei.khaH5921you from beyondמֵעֵ֥בֶרme.'E.verH5676the seaלַיָּ֖םlai.YamH3220, out ofAramמֵאֲרָ֑םme.'a.RamH758and beholdוְהִנָּם֙ve.hi.NamH2009, they are inHazazon-tamarH2688(that is EngediH5872).”

3Jehoshaphatיְהוֹשָׁפָ֛טye.ho.sha.FatH3092was afraidוַיִּרָ֕אvai.yi.Ra'H3372andturnedוַיִּתֵּ֧ןvai.yi.TenH5414his attentionפָּנָ֖יוpa.NavH6440to seekלִדְר֣וֹשׁlid.Ro.oshH1875the Lordלַיהוָ֑הla.Yah.wehH3068, andproclaimedוַיִּקְרָא־vai.yik.ra'-H7121a fastצ֖וֹםTzomH6685throughoutעַל־'al-H5921allכָּל־kol-H3605Judahיְהוּדָֽה׃ye.hu.DahH3063.

Jehoshaphat’s Prayer

5Then Jehoshaphatיְהוֹשָׁפָ֗טye.ho.sha.FatH3092stoodוַיַּעֲמֹ֣דvai.ya.'a.ModH5975in the assemblyבִּקְהַ֧לbik.HalH6951of Judahיְהוּדָ֛הye.hu.DahH3063and Jerusalemוִירוּשָׁלִַ֖םvi.ru.sha.LimH3389,in the houseבְּבֵ֣יתbe.VeitH1004of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068beforeלִפְנֵ֖יlif.NeiH6440the newהַחֲדָשָֽׁה׃ha.cha.da.ShahH2319courtהֶחָצֵ֥רhe.cha.TzerH2691,

6and he saidוַיֹּאמַ֗רvai.yo.MarH559, “O Lordיְהוָ֞הYah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֤י'e.lo.HeiH430of our fathersאֲבֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙'a.vo.Tei.nuH1,are You not Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430in the heavensבַּשָּׁמַ֔יִםba.sha.Ma.yimH8064? Jahaziel Answers the Prayer

Enemies Destroy Themselves

21When he had consultedוַיִּוָּעַץ֙vai.yi.va.'AtzH3289with the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971,he appointedוַיַּעֲמֵ֤דvai.ya.'a.MedH5975those who sangמְשֹֽׁרֲרִים֙me.sho.ra.RimH7891to the Lordלַיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068and those whopraisedוּֽמְהַֽלְלִ֖יםu.me.ha.LimH1984Himin holyקֹ֑דֶשׁKo.deshH6944attireלְהַדְרַת־le.had.rat-H1927,as they wentבְּצֵאת֙be.tzeTH3318out beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the armyהֶֽחָל֔וּץhe.cha.LutzH2502and saidוְאֹֽמְרִים֙ve.'o.me.RimH559, “Giveהוֹד֣וּho.DuH3034thanksH3034to the Lordלַיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068,for His lovingkindnessחַסְדּֽוֹ׃chas.DoH2617is everlastingלְעוֹלָ֖םle.'o.LamH5769.”

22Whenוּבְעֵת֩u.ve.'EtH6256they beganהֵחֵ֨לּוּhe.Che.luH2490singingבְרִנָּ֜הve.ri.NahH7440and praisingוּתְהִלָּ֗הu.te.hi.LahH8416,the Lordיְהוָ֣ה׀Yah.wehH3068setנָתַ֣ןna.TanH5414ambushesמְ֠אָֽרְבִיםMe.'a.re.vimH693againstעַל־'al-H5921the sonsבְּנֵ֨יbe.NeiH1121ofAmmonעַמּ֜וֹןa.MonH5983,Moabמוֹאָ֧בmo.'AvH4124and Mountוְהַר־ve.har-H2022Seirשֵׂעִ֛ירse.'IrH8165,who had comeהַבָּאִ֥יםha.ba.'ImH935against Judahלִֽיהוּדָ֖הli.hu.DahH3063; so they wereroutedוַיִּנָּגֵֽפוּ׃vai.yi.na.Ge.fuH5062.

23For the sonsבְּנֵ֨יbe.NeiH1121of Ammonעַמּ֧וֹןa.MonH5983and Moabוּמוֹאָ֛בu.mo.'AvH4124roseוַ֠יַּֽעַמְדוּVai.ya.'am.duH5975up againstעַל־'al-H5921the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֥יyo.she.VeiH3427of Mountהַר־har-H2022Seirשֵׂעִ֖ירse.'IrH8165destroyingלְהַחֲרִ֣יםle.ha.cha.RimH2763themcompletelyוּלְהַשְׁמִ֑ידu.le.hash.MidH8045;and when they had finishedוּכְכַלּוֹתָם֙u.khe.kha.lo.TamH3615with the inhabitantsבְּיוֹשְׁבֵ֣יbe.yo.she.VeiH3427of Seirשֵׂעִ֔ירse.'IrH8165,they helpedעָזְר֥וּ'a.ze.RuH5826to destroyלְמַשְׁחִֽית׃le.mash.ChitH4889oneאִישׁ־'ish-H376anotherבְּרֵעֵ֖הוּbe.re.'E.huH7453.

24When Judahוִֽיהוּדָ֛הvi.hu.DahH3063cameבָּ֥אba'H935to the lookoutהַמִּצְפֶּ֖הha.mitz.PehH4707of the wildernessלַמִּדְבָּ֑רla.mid.BarH4057,they lookedוַיִּפְנוּ֙vai.yif.NuH6437towardאֶל־'el-H413the multitudeהֶ֣הָמ֔וֹןhe.ha.MonH1995,and beholdH2009, they werecorpsesפְּגָרִ֛יםpe.ga.RimH6297lyingנֹפְלִ֥יםno.fe.LimH5307on the groundאַ֖רְצָה'Ar.tzahH776,and noH369oneH369had escapedפְּלֵיטָֽה׃pe.lei.TahH6413.

25When Jehoshaphatיְהוֹשָׁפָ֣טye.ho.sha.FatH3092and his peopleוְעַמּוֹ֮ve.'a.MoH5971cameוַיָּבֹ֨אvai.ya.Vo'H935to takeלָבֹ֣זla.VozH962their spoilשְׁלָלָם֒she.la.LamH7998,they foundוַיִּמְצְאוּ֩vai.yim.tze.'UH4672muchלָרֹ֜בla.RoH7230among them, includinggoodsוּרְכ֤וּשׁu.re.KhushH7399,garmentsH899and valuableH2536thingsוּכְלֵ֣יu.khe.LeiH3627which they tookוַיְנַצְּל֥וּvay.na.tze.LuH5337for themselves, more thanH4480they could carryמַשָּׂ֑אma.Sa'H4853.And they were threeשְׁלוֹשָׁ֛הshe.lo.ShahH7969daysיָמִ֧יםya.MimH3117takingבֹּזְזִ֥יםbo.ze.ZimH962the spoilהַשָּׁלָ֖לha.sha.LalH7998becauseכִּ֥יkiH3588there was so muchרַב־rav-H7227.

Triumphant Return to Jerusalem

26Then on the fourthהָרְבִעִ֗יha.re.vi.'IH7243dayוּבַיּ֣וֹםu.vai.YomH3117they assembledנִקְהֲלוּ֙nik.ha.LuH6950in the valleyלְעֵ֣מֶקle.'E.mekH6010of Beracahבְּרָכָ֔הbe.ra.KhahH1294,for thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033they blessedבֵּרֲכ֣וּbe.ra.KhuH1288the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068.Thereforeעַל־ כֵּ֡ן'al- kenH5921 H3651they have namedקָֽרְא֞וּ שֵׁ֨םka.re.'U shemH7121 H8034that placeהַמָּק֥וֹםha.ma.KomH4725“The Valleyעֵ֥מֶק'E.mekH6010ofBeracahבְּרָכָ֖הbe.ra.KhahH1294”untilעַד־'ad-H5704todayהַיּֽוֹם׃hai.YomH3117.

27Everyכָּל־kol-H3605manאִ֨ישׁ'ishH376of Judahיְהוּדָ֤הye.hu.DahH3063and Jerusalemוִֽירוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙vi.ru.sha.LimH3389returnedוַ֠יָּשֻׁבוּVai.ya.shu.vuH7725with Jehoshaphatוִֽיהוֹשָׁפָ֣טvi.ho.sha.FatH3092at their headבְּרֹאשָׁ֔םbe.ro.ShamH7218,returningלָשׁ֥וּבla.ShuvH7725to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֖םye.ru.sha.LimH3389with joyבְּשִׂמְחָ֑הbe.sim.ChahH8057,for the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068had made them to rejoiceשִׂמְּחָ֥םsi.me.ChamH8055overH4480their enemiesH340.
