2 Samuel 6
(1 Chronicles 13:1–7)
1DavidH1732 againH5750 assembledH622 the chosenH977 men of IsraelH3478, thirtyH7970 thousandH505 in allH3605. 2And heH1732 and allH3605 his troopsH5971 set outH1980 for Baale of JudahH11841 to bring upH5927 from thereH8033 the arkH727 of GodH430, whichH834 is calledH7121 by the NameH8034—2 the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 of HostsH6635, who is enthronedH3427 between the cherubimH3742 that are on itH5921.
3They setH7392 the arkH727 of GodH430 onH413 a newH2319 cartH5699 and brought itH5375 from the houseH1004 of AbinadabH41, whichH834 was on the hillH1389. UzzahH5798 and AhioH283, the sonsH1121 of AbinadabH41, were guidingH5090 the newH2319 cartH5699, 4bringingH5375 with itH5973 the arkH727 of GodH430.3 And AhioH283 was walkingH1980 in frontH6440 of the arkH727.
Uzzah Touches the Ark
(1 Chronicles 13:8–14)
5DavidH1732 and allH3605 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 were celebratingH7832 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 with all kindsH3605 of wood instrumentsH6086H1265,4 harpsH3658, stringed instrumentsH5035, tambourinesH8596, sistrumsH4517, and cymbalsH6767.
6When they cameH935 toH5704 the threshing floorH1637 of NaconH5225,5 UzzahH5798 reached outH7971 and took holdH270 of the arkH727 of GodH430, becauseH3588 the oxenH1241 had stumbledH8058. 7And the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 burnedH2734 against UzzahH5798, and GodH430 struck him downH5221 on the spotH8033 forH5921 his irreverenceH7944,6 and he diedH4191 thereH8033 besideH5973 the arkH727 of GodH430.
8Then DavidH1732 became angryH2734 becauseH5921 the LORDH3068 had burst forthH6555H6556 against UzzahH5798. So he namedH7121 thatH1931 placeH4725 Perez-uzzahH6560,7 as it is called toH5704 thisH2088 dayH3117.
9ThatH1931 dayH3117 DavidH1732 fearedH3372 the LORDH3068 and askedH559, “HowH349 can the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 ever comeH935 to meH413?” 10So heH1732 was unwillingH3808H14 to moveH5493H413 the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 toH5921 the CityH5892 of DavidH1732; instead, he tookH1732 it asideH5186 to the houseH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 the GittiteH1663. 11Thus the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 remainedH3427 in the houseH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 the GittiteH1663 for threeH7969 monthsH2320, and the LORDH3068 blessedH1288 him and allH3605 his householdH1004.
The Ark Brought to Jerusalem
(1 Chronicles 15:1–28)
12Now it was reportedH5046 to KingH4428 DavidH1732H559, “The LORDH3068 has blessedH1288 the houseH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 andH853 allH3605 thatH834 belongs to him, because ofH5668 the arkH727 of GodH430.”
So DavidH1732 wentH1980 and had the arkH727 of GodH430 brought upH5927 from the houseH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 into the CityH5892 of DavidH1732 with rejoicingH8057. 13WhenH3588 those carryingH5375 the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 had advancedH6805 sixH8337 pacesH6806, he sacrificedH2076 an oxH7794 and a fattened calfH4806.
14And DavidH1732, wearingH2296 a linenH906 ephodH646, dancedH3769 with allH3605 his mightH5797 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, 15while heH1732 and allH3605 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 brought upH5927 the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 with shoutingH8643 and the soundingH6963 of the ram’s hornH7782.
Michal’s Contempt for David
(1 Chronicles 15:29–16:3)
As the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 was enteringH935 the CityH5892 of DavidH1732, Saul’sH7586 daughterH1323 MichalH4324 looked downH8259 fromH1157 a windowH2474 and sawH7200 KingH4428 DavidH1732 leapingH6339 and dancingH3769 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and she despisedH959 him in her heartH3820.
17So they broughtH935 the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 and setH3322 itH853 in its placeH4725 insideH8432 the tentH168 thatH834 DavidH1732 had pitchedH5186 for it. Then DavidH1732 offeredH5927 burnt offeringsH5930 and peace offeringsH8002 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068.
18When DavidH1732 had finishedH3615 sacrificingH5927 the burnt offeringsH5930 and peace offeringsH8002, he blessedH1288 the peopleH5971 in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 of HostsH6635. 19Then he distributedH2505 to everyH3605H5971 manH376 andH5704 womanH802 amongH3605 the multitudeH1995 of IsraelH3478 aH259 loafH2471 of breadH3899, aH259 date cakeH829,8 and aH259 raisin cakeH809. And allH3605 the peopleH5971 departedH1980, eachH376 to his own homeH1004.
20When DavidH1732 returnedH7725 home to blessH1288 his own householdH1004, Saul’sH7586H7122 daughterH1323 MichalH4324 came outH3318 to meet himH1732. “HowH4100 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 has distinguished himselfH3513 todayH3117!” she saidH559. “HeH834 has uncovered himselfH1540 todayH3117 in the sightH5869 of the maidservantsH519 of his subjectsH5650, like aH259 vulgar personH7386 wouldH1540 do.”
21But DavidH1732 saidH559 toH413 MichalH4324, “I was dancing beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, whoH834 choseH977 me over your fatherH1 and allH3605 his houseH1004 when He appointedH6680 meH853 rulerH5057 overH5921 the LORD’sH3068H5921 peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. I will celebrateH7832 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, 22and I will humiliateH7043H1961 and humbleH8217 myselfH5869 even moreH5750 than thisH2063. Yet I will be honoredH3513 byH5973 the maidservantsH519 of whomH834 you have spokenH559H5973.”
23And MichalH4324 the daughterH1323 of SaulH7586 hadH1961 noH3808 childrenH3206 toH5704 the dayH3117 of her deathH4194.
