2 Samuel 6
Peril in Moving the Ark
11Now DavidH1732 againH5750 gatheredH622 allH3605 the chosenH977 men of IsraelH3478, thirtyH7970 thousandH505. 2And DavidH1732 2departedH6965H1980 from 34Baale-judahH1184, with allH3605 the peopleH5971 whoH834 were with him, to bringH5927 upH5927 from thereH8033 the arkH727 of GodH430 whichH834 is calledH7121 by the 5NameH8034, the very nameH8034 of the LordH3068 of armiesH6635 who 6is 7enthronedH3427 above the cherubimH3742. 3They had mountedH7392 the arkH727 of GodH430 on 8a newH2319 cartH5699 and movedH5375 it from the houseH1004 of AbinadabH41, whichH834 was on the hillH1389; and UzzahH5798 and AhioH283, the sonsH1121 of AbinadabH41, were leadingH5090 the newH2319 cartH5699. 4So 9they broughtH5375 it with the arkH727 of GodH430 from the houseH1004 of AbinadabH41, whichH834 was on the hillH1389; and AhioH283 was walkingH1980 aheadH6440 of the arkH727. 5Meanwhile, DavidH1732 and allH3605 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 10were celebratingH7832 beforeH6440 the LordH3068 11with allH3605 kinds of instruments made of juniperH1265 woodH6086, and with 12lyresH3658, harpsH5035, tambourinesH8596, castanetsH4517, and cymbalsH6767.
6But when they cameH935 to the 13threshingH1637 floorH1637 of NaconH5225, UzzahH5798 14reachedH7971 outH7971 towardH413 the arkH727 of GodH430 and tookH270 holdH270 of it, becauseH3588 the oxenH1241 nearly overturnedH8058 it. 7And the angerH639 of the LordH3068 burnedH2734 against UzzahH5798, and 15GodH430 struckH5221 him down thereH8033 for 16his irreverenceH7944; and he diedH4191 thereH8033 by the arkH727 of GodH430. 8Then DavidH1732 becameH2734 angryH2734 becauseH5921H834 17of the Lord’sH3068 outburstH6555H6556 against UzzahH5798; and that placeH4725 has been calledH7121 18Perez-uzzahH6560 to thisH2088 dayH3117. 9So 19DavidH1732 wasH3372 afraidH3372 of the LordH3068 that dayH3117; and he saidH559, “HowH349 can the arkH727 of the LordH3068 comeH935 to me?” 10And DavidH1732 was unwillingH3808H14 to moveH5493 the arkH727 of the LordH3068 into the cityH5892 of DavidH1732 with him; but DavidH1732 tookH5186 it asideH5186 to the houseH1004 of 20Obed-edomH5654, the GittiteH1663. 11The arkH727 of the LordH3068 remainedH3427 in the houseH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 the GittiteH1663 for threeH7969 monthsH2320, and the LordH3068 21blessedH1288 Obed-edomH5654 and allH3605 his householdH1004.
The Ark Is Brought to Jerusalem
12Now it was reportedH5046 to KingH4428 DavidH1732, sayingH559, “The LordH3068 has blessedH1288 the houseH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 and allH3605 that belongs to him, on accountH5668 of the arkH727 of GodH430.” 22So DavidH1732 wentH1980 and broughtH5927 the arkH727 of GodH430 upH5927 from the houseH1004 of Obed-edomH5654 to 23the cityH5892 of DavidH1732 with joyH8057. 13And so it was, that 24whenH3588 25those carryingH5375 the arkH727 of the LordH3068 marchedH6805 sixH8337 pacesH6806, he sacrificedH2076 an 26oxH7794 and a fattenedH4806 steerH4806. 14And 27DavidH1732 was dancingH3769 beforeH6440 the LordH3068 with allH3605 his strengthH5797, and DavidH1732 was 28wearingH2296 a linenH906 ephodH646. 15So DavidH1732 and allH3605 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 were bringingH5927 upH5927 the arkH727 of the LordH3068 with joyfulH8643 shoutingH8643 and the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782.
16Then it happenedH1961, as the arkH727 of the LordH3068 was comingH935 into the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, that 29MichalH4324 the daughterH1323 of SaulH7586 lookedH8259 downH8259 throughH1157 the windowH2474 and sawH7200 KingH4428 DavidH1732 leapingH6339 and dancingH3769 beforeH6440 the LordH3068; and she wasH959 contemptuousH959 of him in her heartH3820.
17Now they broughtH935 inH935 the arkH727 of the LordH3068 and setH3322 it 30in its placeH4725 insideH8432 the tentH168 whichH834 DavidH1732 had pitchedH5186 for it; and 31DavidH1732 offeredH5927 burntH5930 offeringsH5930 and peaceH8002 offeringsH8002 beforeH6440 the LordH3068. 18When DavidH1732 had finishedH3615 offeringH5927 the burntH5930 offeringH5930 and the peaceH8002 offeringsH8002, 32he blessedH1288 the peopleH5971 in the nameH8034 of the LordH3068 of armiesH6635. 19Further, he distributedH2505 to allH3605 the peopleH5971, to allH3605 the multitudeH1995 of IsraelH3478, bothH4480 to menH376 and womenH802, a cakeH2471 of breadH3899, oneH259 of datesH829, and oneH259 of raisinsH809 to eachH376 oneH376. Then allH3605 the peopleH5971 leftH1980, eachH376 to his houseH1004.
20But when DavidH1732 returnedH7725 to blessH1288 his own householdH1004, MichalH4324 the daughterH1323 of SaulH7586 cameH3318 outH3318 to meetH7122 DavidH1732 and saidH559, “HowH4100 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 dignifiedH3513 himself todayH3117! For 33he exposedH1540 himself todayH3117 in the sightH5869 of his servants’H5650 femaleH519 slavesH519, as oneH259 of the 34rabbleH7386 shamelesslyH1540 exposesH1540 himself!” 21But DavidH1732 saidH559 to MichalH4324, “35I was beforeH6440 the LordH3068, whoH834 preferredH977 me to your fatherH1 and to allH3605 his houseH1004, to appointH6680 me as rulerH5057 overH5921 the peopleH5971 of the LordH3068, overH5921 IsraelH3478. So I will 36celebrateH7832 beforeH6440 the LordH3068! 22And I might demeanH7043 myself even moreH5750 thanH4480 thisH2088 and be lowlyH8217 in my own sightH5869, but with the femaleH519 slavesH519 of whomH834 you have spokenH559, with them I am to be heldH3513 inH3513 honorH3513!” 23And MichalH4324 the daughterH1323 of SaulH7586 hadH1961 noH3808 childH3206 to the dayH3117 of her deathH4194.
