2 Samuel 4

1Now when Ish-bosheth sonH1121 of SaulH7586 heardH8085 thatH3588 AbnerH74 had diedH4191 in HebronH2275, he lostH7503 courageH3027, and allH3605 IsraelH3478 was dismayedH926. 2Saul’sH7586 sonH1121 had twoH8147 menH582 who were leadersH8269 of raiding partiesH1416H1961. OneH259 was namedH8034 BaanahH1196H8034 and the otherH8145 RechabH7394; they were sonsH1121 of RimmonH7417 the BeerothiteH886 of the tribeH1121 of BenjaminH1144H3588—BeerothH881 is consideredH2803 part ofH5921 BenjaminH1144, 3because the BeerothitesH886 fledH1272 to GittaimH1664 and have livedH1961 thereH8033 as foreignersH1481 toH5704 thisH2088 dayH3117.

4And JonathanH3083 sonH1121 of SaulH7586 had a sonH1121 who was lame inH5223 his feetH7272. He wasH1961 fiveH2568 years oldH1121H8141 when the reportH8052 about SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 cameH935 from JezreelH3157. His nurseH539 picked him upH5375 and fledH5127H1961, but as she was hurryingH2648 to escapeH5127, he fellH5307 and became lameH6452. His nameH8034 was MephiboshethH4648.

5Now RechabH7394 and BaanahH1196, the sonsH1121 of RimmonH7417 the BeerothiteH886, set outH1980 and arrivedH935 atH413 the houseH1004 of Ish-boshethH378 in the heatH2527 of the dayH3117, while the kingH1931 was taking his middayH6672 napH7901. 6They enteredH935H5704 the interiorH8432 of the houseH1004 as if to getH3947 some wheatH2406, and they stabbed himH5221 inH413 the stomachH2570. Then RechabH7394 and his brotherH251 BaanahH1196 slipped awayH4422.

7They had enteredH935 the houseH1004 while Ish-boshethH1931 was lyingH7901 onH5921 his bedH4296H2315H4904, and having stabbedH5221 and killed himH4191, they beheadedH5493 himH7218, tookH3947 his headH7218, and traveledH1980 allH3605 nightH3915 by wayH1870 of the ArabahH6160. 8They broughtH935 the headH7218 of Ish-boshethH378 toH413 DavidH1732 at HebronH2275 and saidH559 toH413 the kingH4428, “Here isH2009 the headH7218 of Ish-boshethH378 sonH1121 of SaulH7586, your enemyH341 whoH834 soughtH1245 your lifeH5315. TodayH3117H2088 the LORDH3068 has grantedH5414 vengeanceH5360 to my lordH113 the kingH4428 against SaulH7586 and his offspringH2233.”

The Execution of Rechab and Baanah

9But DavidH1732 answeredH6030 RechabH7394 andH853 his brotherH251 BaanahH1196, the sonsH1121 of RimmonH7417 the BeerothiteH886, “As surely as the LORDH3068 livesH2416, whoH834 has redeemedH6299 my lifeH5315 from allH3605 distressH6869, 10whenH3588 someone toldH5046 meH559, ‘LookH2009, SaulH7586 is deadH4191,’ and thoughtH5869 heH1931 wasH1961 a bearer of good newsH1319, I seizedH270 him and put him to deathH2026 at ZiklagH6860. ThatH834 was his rewardH5414 for his newsH1309! 11How much moreH637, whenH3588 wickedH7563 menH582 killH2026 a righteousH6662 manH376 in his own houseH1004 and onH5921 his own bedH4904, shall I not nowH6258H3808 requireH1245 his bloodH1818 fromH4480 your handsH3027 and remove youH1197 from the earthH776!”

12So DavidH1732 commandedH6680 his young menH5288, and they killedH2026 Rechab and Baanah. They cut offH7112 their handsH3027 and feetH7272 and hungH8518 their bodies byH5921 the poolH1295 in HebronH2275, but they tookH3947 the headH7218 of Ish-boshethH378 and buriedH6912 it in Abner’sH74 tombH6913 in HebronH2275.
