2 Samuel 7
(1 Chronicles 17:1–15)
1AfterH1961H3588 the kingH4428 had settledH3427 into his palaceH1004 and the LORDH3068 had given him restH5117 from allH3605 his enemiesH341 around himH5439, 2he saidH559 toH413 NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, “HereH7200H4994 I amH595, livingH3427 in a houseH1004 of cedarH730, while the arkH727 of GodH430 remainsH3427 inH8432 a tentH3407.”
3And NathanH5416H413 repliedH559 to the kingH4428, “GoH1980 and doH6213 allH3605 thatH834 is in your heartH3824, forH3588 the LORDH3068 is with youH5973.”
4But thatH1931H1961 nightH3915 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 toH413 NathanH5416, sayingH559, 5“GoH1980 and tellH559 My servantH5650H413 DavidH1732 that this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559: Are you the oneH859 to buildH1129 for Me a houseH1004 to dwell inH3427? 6ForH3588 I have notH3808 dweltH3427 in a houseH1004 from the dayH3117 I broughtH5927 the Israelites upH1121H3478 out of EgyptH4714 untilH5704 thisH2088 dayH3117, but I haveH1961 moved aboutH1980 with a tentH168 as My dwellingH4908. 7In allH3605 My journeysH1980 with allH3605 the IsraelitesH1121H3478, have I ever askedH1696H1697H854 anyH259 of the leadersH76261 I appointedH6680 to shepherdH7462 My peopleH5971 IsraelH3478H559, ‘WhyH4100 haven’tH3808 you builtH1129 Me a houseH1004 of cedarH730?’
8NowH6258 thenH3541, you are to tellH559 My servantH5650 DavidH1732 that this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 of HostsH6635 saysH559: IH589 took youH3947 fromH4480 the pastureH5116, from followingH310 the flockH6629, to beH1961 the rulerH5057 overH5921 My peopleH5971H5921 IsraelH3478. 9I have beenH1961 with youH5973 whereverH3605H834 you have goneH1980, and I have cut offH3772 allH3605 your enemiesH341 from before youH6440. Now I will makeH6213 for you a nameH8034 like that ofH8034H1419 the greatestH1419 in the landH776.
10And I will provideH7760 a placeH4725 for My peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 and will plant themH5193 so that they may dwell inH7931 a place of their ownH8478 and be disturbedH7264 noH3808 moreH5750. NoH3808 longerH3254 will the sonsH1121 of wickednessH5766 oppress themH6031 as they didH834 at the beginningH7223 11and have done sinceH4480 the dayH3117 I appointedH6680 judgesH8199 overH5921 My peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. I will give you restH5117 from allH3605 your enemiesH341.
The LORDH3068H3588 declaresH5046 to you thatH3068 He Himself will establishH6213 a houseH1004 for you. 12And whenH3588 your daysH3117 are fulfilledH4390 and you restH7901 withH854 your fathersH1, I will raise upH6965 your descendantH2233 after youH310, whoH834 will comeH3318 from your own bodyH4578, and I will establishH3559 his kingdomH4467. 13HeH1931 will buildH1129 a houseH1004 for My NameH8034, and I will establishH3559 the throneH3678 of his kingdomH4467 foreverH5704H5769. 14IH589 will beH1961 his FatherH1, and heH1931 will beH1961 My sonH1121.2 WhenH834 he does wrongH5753, I will discipline himH3198 with the rodH7626 of menH582 and with the blowsH5061 of the sonsH1121 of menH120.
15But My loving devotionH2617 will neverH3808 be removed from himH5493 asH834 I removedH5493 it fromH4480H5973 SaulH7586, whomH834 I removed fromH5493 before youH6440. 16Your houseH1004 and kingdomH4467 will endureH539 foreverH5769 beforeH6440 MeH5704,3 and your throneH3678 will beH1961 establishedH3559 foreverH5704H5769.”
17SoH3651 NathanH5416 relayedH1696 toH413 DavidH1732 allH3605 the wordsH1697 of thisH2088 entireH3605 revelationH2384.
David’s Prayer of Thanksgiving
(1 Chronicles 17:16–27)
18Then KingH4428 DavidH1732 went inH935, satH3427 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and saidH559, “WhoH4310 am IH595, O LordH136 GODH3069, and whatH4310 is my houseH1004, thatH3588 You have brought meH935 this farH5704H1988? 19And as ifH5750 thisH2063 was a small thingH6994 in Your eyesH5869, O LordH136 GODH3069, You have alsoH1571 spokenH1696 aboutH413 the futureH7350 of the houseH1004 of Your servantH5650. Is thisH2063 Your customH8451 with manH120, O LordH136 GODH3069?4 20WhatH4100 moreH3254H5750 can DavidH1732 sayH1696 to YouH413? For YouH859 knowH3045 Your servantH5650, O LordH136 GODH3069. 21For the sakeH5668 of Your wordH1697 and according to Your own heartH3820, You have accomplishedH6213 thisH3605H2063 great thingH1420 and revealed itH3045 to Your servantH5650.
22HowH5921H3651 great You areH1431, O LordH136 GODH3069! ForH3588 there is noneH369 like YouH3644, and there is noH369 GodH430 but YouH2108, according to everythingH3605 we have heardH8085 with our own earsH241. 23And whoH4310 is like Your peopleH5971 IsraelH3478—the oneH259 nationH1471 on earthH776 whomH834 GodH430 went outH1980 to redeemH6299 as a peopleH5971 for Himself and to makeH7760 a nameH8034 for Himself? You performedH6213 greatH1420 and awesome wondersH3372 by driving out nationsH1471 and their godsH430 from beforeH6440 Your peopleH5971, whomH834 You redeemedH6299 for Yourself from EgyptH4714.5 24For You have establishedH3559 Your peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 as Your very own foreverH5704H5769, and YouH859, O LORDH3068, have becomeH1961 their GodH430.
25And nowH6258, O LORDH3068 GodH430, confirmH6965 foreverH5704H5769 the wordH1697 You have spokenH1696 concerningH5921 Your servantH5650H5921 and his houseH1004. DoH6213 asH834 You have promisedH1696, 26so that Your nameH8034 will be magnifiedH1431 foreverH5704H5769 when it is saidH559, ‘The LORDH3068 of HostsH6635 is GodH430 overH5921 IsraelH3478.’ And the houseH1004 of Your servantH5650 DavidH1732 will beH1961 establishedH3559 before YouH6440. 27ForH3588 YouH859, O LORDH3068 of HostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, have revealedH1540 this to Your servantH5650 when You saidH559, ‘I will buildH1129 a houseH1004 for you.’ ThereforeH5921H3651 Your servantH5650 has foundH4672 the courageH3820 to offerH6419 thisH2063 prayerH8605 to YouH413.
28And nowH6258, O LordH136 GODH3069, YouH859 areH1931 GodH430! Your wordsH1697 areH1961 trueH571, and You have promisedH1696 thisH2063 goodnessH2896 toH413 Your servantH5650. 29Now thereforeH6258, may it please YouH2974 to blessH1288 the houseH1004 of Your servantH5650, that it may continueH1961 foreverH5769 before YouH6440. ForH3588 YouH859, O LordH136 GODH3069, have spokenH1696, and with Your blessingH1293 the houseH1004 of Your servantH5650 will be blessed foreverH1288H5769.”
