5וַיְהִ֤יvay.HiH1961As oneהָֽאֶחָד֙ha.'e.ChadH259of them was cutting downמַפִּ֣ילma.PilH5307a treeהַקּוֹרָ֔הha.ko.RahH6982וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853,the ironהַבַּרְזֶ֖לha.bar.ZelH1270axe headfellנָפַ֣לna.FalH5307intoאֶל־'el-H413the waterהַמָּ֑יִםha.Ma.yimH4325. “Ohאֲהָ֥הּ'a.HahH162,my masterאֲדֹנִ֖י'a.do.NiH113,”he cried outוַיִּצְעַ֥ק וַיֹּ֛אמֶרvai.yitz.'Ak vai.Yo.merH6817 H559, “itוְה֥וּאve.Hu'H1931was borrowedשָׁאֽוּל׃sha.'UlH7592!”

6“Whereאָ֣נָה'A.nahH575did it fallנָפָ֑לna.FalH5307?”askedוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559the manאִישׁ־'ish-H376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430.And when he showedוַיַּרְאֵ֙הוּ֙vai.yar.'E.huH7200himאֶת־'et-H853the placeהַמָּק֔וֹםha.ma.KomH4725,the man of God cutוַיִּקְצָב־vai.yik.tzov-H7094a stickעֵץ֙'etzH6086,threwוַיַּשְׁלֶךְ־vai.yash.lekh-H7993it thereשָׁ֔מָּהSha.mahH8033,and made the ironהַבַּרְזֶֽל׃ha.bar.ZelH1270floatוַיָּ֖צֶףvai.Ya.tzefH6687.

7“Lift it outהָ֣רֶםHa.remH7311,”he saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559,and the man reached outוַיִּשְׁלַ֥חvai.yish.LachH7971his handיָד֖וֹya.DoH3027and took itוַיִּקָּחֵֽהוּ׃ פvai.yi.ka.Che.huH3947.

8Now the kingוּמֶ֣לֶךְu.Me.lekhH4428of Aramאֲרָ֔ם'a.RamH758wasהָיָ֥הha.YahH1961at warנִלְחָ֖םnil.ChamH3898against Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.After consultingוַיִּוָּעַץ֙vai.yi.va.'AtzH3289withאֶל־'el-H413his servantsעֲבָדָ֣יו'a.va.DavH5650,he saidלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, “My campתַּחֲנֹתִֽי׃ta.cha.no.TiH8466will beinאֶל־'el-H413suchפְּלֹנִ֥יpe.lo.NiH6423and suchאַלְמֹנִ֖י'al.mo.NiH492a placeמְק֛וֹםme.KomH4725.”

9Then the manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֗יםha.'E.lo.HimH430sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֞חvai.yish.LachH7971word toאֶל־'el-H413the kingמֶ֤לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לֵאמֹ֔רYis.ra.'El le.MorH3478 H559: “Be careful notהִשָּׁ֕מֶרhi.Sha.merH8104to pass byמֵעֲבֹ֖רme.'a.VorH5674thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088placeהַמָּק֣וֹםha.ma.KomH4725,forכִּֽי־ki-H3588the Arameansאֲרָ֥ם'a.RamH758are going downנְחִתִּֽים׃ne.chi.TimH5185thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033.”

10So the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֞חvai.yish.LachH7971word toאֶֽל־'el-H413the placeהַמָּק֞וֹםha.ma.KomH4725אֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the manאִישׁ־'ish-H376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֛יםha.'E.lo.HimH430had pointed outאָֽמַר־'a.mar-H559.Time and againאַחַ֖ת שְׁתָּֽיִם׃'a.Chat she.Ta.yimH3808 H259 H8147Elishawarned the kingוְהִזְהִיר֖וֹve.hiz.hi.roH2094,so that he was on his guardוְנִשְׁמַ֣רve.nish.MarH8104in such placesשָׁ֑םShamH8033.

11Forעַל־'al-H5921thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088reasonהַדָּבָ֖רha.da.VarH1697the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Aramאֲרָ֔ם'a.RamH758became enragedוַיִּסָּעֵר֙ לֵ֣בvai.yi.sa.'Er levH5590 H3820and calledוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121his servantsעֲבָדָיו֙'a.va.DavH5650to demandוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559of themאֶל־'el-H413אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם'a.lei.HemH413הֲלוֹא֙ha.lO'H3808, “Tell meתַּגִּ֣ידוּta.Gi.duH5046,which oneמִ֥יmiH4310of us ison the sideאֶל־'el-H413of the kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478?”

12But oneאַחַ֣ד'a.ChadH259of his servantsמֵֽעֲבָדָ֔יוme.'a.va.DavH5650repliedוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “No oneל֖וֹאLo'H3808,my lordאֲדֹנִ֣י'a.do.NiH113the kingהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428.Forכִּֽי־ki-H3588Elishaאֱלִישָׁ֤ע'e.li.Sha'H477,the prophetהַנָּבִיא֙ha.na.Vi'H5030אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,tellsיַגִּיד֙ya.GidH5046the kingלְמֶ֣לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478אֶת־'et-H853the very wordsהַ֨דְּבָרִ֔יםha.de.va.RimH1697אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you speakתְּדַבֵּ֖רte.da.BerH1696in your bedroomבַּחֲדַ֥ר מִשְׁכָּבֶֽךָ׃ba.cha.Dar mish.ka.Ve.khaH2315 H4904.”

13So the king saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Goלְכ֤וּle.KhuH1980and seeוּרְאוּ֙u.re.'UH7200whereאֵיכֹ֣ה'ei.KhohH351heה֔וּאHu'H1931is,that I may sendוְאֶשְׁלַ֖חve.'esh.LachH7971men to capture himוְאֶקָּחֵ֑הוּve.'e.ka.Che.huH3947.”On receiving the reportוַיֻּגַּד־vai.yu.gad-H5046לֵאמֹ֖רle.MorH559הִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009, “Elisha is in Dothanבְדֹתָֽן׃ve.do.TanH1886,”

14the king of Aramsentוַיִּשְׁלַח־vai.yish.lach-H7971horsesסוּסִ֥יםsu.SimH5483,chariotsוְרֶ֖כֶבve.Re.khevH7393,and a greatכָּבֵ֑דka.VedH3515armyוְחַ֣יִלve.Cha.yilH2428שָׁ֛מָּהSha.mahH8033.They went thereוַיָּבֹ֣אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935by nightלַ֔יְלָהLay.lahH3915and surroundedוַיַּקִּ֖פוּ עַל־vai.ya.Ki.fu 'al-H5362 H5921the cityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892.

15When the servantמְשָׁרֵ֨תme.sha.RetH8334of the manאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִים֮ha.'E.lo.HimH430got upלָקוּם֒la.KumH6965and went outוַיֵּצֵ֕אvai.ye.Tze'H3318early in the morningוַ֠יַּשְׁכֵּםVai.yash.kemH7925,beholdוְהִנֵּה־ve.hi.neh-H2009,an armyחַ֛יִלCha.yilH2428with horsesוְס֣וּסve.SusH5483and chariotsוָרָ֑כֶבva.Ra.khevH7393had surroundedסוֹבֵ֥בso.VevH5437אֶת־'et-H853the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892.So heנַעֲר֥וֹ אֵלָ֛יוna.'a.Ro 'e.LavH5288 H413asked Elishaוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Ohאֲהָ֥הּ'a.HahH162,my masterאֲדֹנִ֖י'a.do.NiH113,whatאֵיכָ֥ה'ei.KhahH349are we to doנַֽעֲשֶֽׂה׃Na.'a.SehH6213?”
