2And he didוַיַּ֥עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213evilהָרַ֖עha.Ra'H7451in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֣יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the LORDיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,butרַ֗קRakH7535notלֹ֚אlo'H3808like the kingsכְּמַלְכֵ֣יke.mal.KheiH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834precededהָי֖וּha.YuH1961himלְפָנָֽיו׃le.fa.NavH6440.

3Shalmaneserשַׁלְמַנְאֶ֖סֶרshal.man.'E.serH8022kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֑וּר'a.ShurH804attackedעָלָ֣יו'a.LavH5921himעָלָ֔ה'a.LahH5927,and Hosheaהוֹשֵׁ֙עַ֙ho.She.a'H1954becameוַֽיְהִי־vay.hi-H1961hisvassalעֶ֔בֶד'E.vedH5650and paidוַיָּ֥שֶׁבvai.Ya.shevH7725himtributeמִנְחָֽה׃min.ChahH4503.

4But the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֨וּר'a.ShurH804discoveredוַיִּמְצָא֩vai.yim.Tza'H4672that Hosheaבְּהוֹשֵׁ֜עַbe.ho.She.a'H1954had conspiredקֶ֗שֶׁרKe.sherH7195אֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834to sendשָׁלַ֤חsha.LachH7971envoysמַלְאָכִים֙mal.'a.KhimH4397toאֶל־'el-H413Kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428Soס֣וֹאSo'H5471of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,and that he had notוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808paidהֶעֱלָ֥הhe.'e.LahH5927tributeמִנְחָ֛הmin.ChahH4503to the kingלְמֶ֥לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֖וּר'a.ShurH804as in previous yearsH8141.Therefore the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֔וּר'a.ShurH804arrestedוַֽיַּעַצְרֵ֙הוּ֙vai.ya.'atz.Re.huH6113Hosheaand put himוַיַּאַסְרֵ֖הוּ בֵּ֥יתvai.ya.'as.Re.hu beitH631 H1004in prisonכֶּֽלֶא׃Ke.le'H3608.

5Then the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֖וּר'a.ShurH804invadedוַיַּ֥עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927the wholeבְּכָל־be.kholH3605landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776,marched upוַיַּ֙עַל֙vai.Ya.'alH5927to Samariaשֹׁמְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111,and besiegedוַיָּ֥צַרvai.Ya.tzarH6696itעָלֶ֖יהָ'a.Lei.haH5921for threeשָׁלֹ֥שׁsha.LoshH7969yearsשָׁנִֽים׃sha.NimH8141.

6In the ninthהַתְּשִׁיעִ֜יתha.te.shi.'ItH8671yearבִּשְׁנַ֨תbish.NatH8141of Hosheaלְהוֹשֵׁ֗עַle.ho.She.a'H1954,the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁוּר֙'a.ShurH804אֶת־'et-H853capturedלָכַ֤דla.KhadH3920Samariaשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111and carried awayוַיֶּ֥גֶלvai.Ye.gelH1540אֶת־'et-H853the Israelitesיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478to Assyriaאַשּׁ֑וּרָה'a.Shu.rahH804,where he settledוַיֹּ֨שֶׁבvai.Yo.shevH3427themאֹתָ֜ם'o.TamH853in Halahבַּחְלַ֧חbach.LachH2477,in Gozanגּוֹזָ֖ןgo.ZanH1470by the Haborוּבְחָב֛וֹרu.ve.cha.VorH2249Riverנְהַ֥רne.HarH5104,and in the citiesוְעָרֵ֥יve.'a.ReiH5892of the Medesמָדָֽי׃ פma.DaiH4074.

7All this happenedוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588the peopleבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478had sinnedחָטְא֤וּcha.te.'UH2398against the LORDלַיהוָ֣הla.Yah.wehH3068their Godאֱלֹהֵיהֶ֔ם'e.lo.hei.HemH430,who had broughtהַמַּעֲלֶ֤הha.ma.'a.LehH5927themאֹתָם֙'o.TamH853out of the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714from underמִתַּ֕חַתmi.Ta.chatH8478the handיַ֖דyadH3027of Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֣הpar.'OhH6547kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Egyptמִצְרָ֑יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714.They had worshipedוַיִּֽירְא֖וּvai.yi.re.'UH3372otherאֲחֵרִֽים׃'a.che.RimH312godsאֱלֹהִ֥ים'E.lo.HimH430

8and walkedוַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙vai.ye.le.KhuH1980in the customsבְּחֻקּ֣וֹתbe.chu.KotH2708of the nationsהַגּוֹיִ֔םha.go.YimH1471thatאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068had driven outהוֹרִ֣ישׁho.RishH3423beforeמִפְּנֵ֖יmi.pe.NeiH6440the Israelitesבְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑לbe.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478,as well as in the practicesאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834introducedעָשֽׂוּ׃'a.SuH6213by the kingsוּמַלְכֵ֥יu.mal.KheiH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478.
