9Then King Ahaziah sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֥חvai.yish.LachH7971to Elijahאֵלָ֛יו'e.LavH413a captainשַׂר־sar-H8269with his company of fifty menH2572.So the captain went upוַיַּ֣עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927toאֵלָ֗יו וְהִנֵּה֙'e.Lav ve.hi.NehH413 H2009Elijah,who was sittingיֹשֵׁב֙yo.ShevH3427onעַל־'al-H5921topרֹ֣אשׁroshH7218of a hillהָהָ֔רha.HarH2022,and saidוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696to himאֵלָ֔יו'e.LavH413, “Manאִ֚ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,the kingהַמֶּ֥לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428declaresדִּבֶּ֖רdi.BerH1696, ‘Come downרֵֽדָה׃Re.dahH3381!’”

10Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ וַיְדַבֵּר֮'e.li.Ya.hu vay.da.BerH452 H1696answeredוַיַּעֲנֶ֣ה אֶל־vai.ya.'a.Neh 'el-H6030 H413the captainשַׂ֣ר הַחֲמִשִּׁים֒sar ha.cha.mi.ShimH8269 H2572, “Ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518Iאָ֔נִי'A.niH589am a manאִ֤ישׁ'ishH376of Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430,may fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784come downתֵּ֤רֶדTe.redH3381fromמִן־min-H4480heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and consumeוְתֹאכַ֥לve.to.KhalH398youאֹתְךָ֖'o.te.KhaH853andוְאֶת־ve.'EtH853yourfiftyחֲמִשֶּׁ֑יךָcha.mi.Shei.khaH2572men.”And fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784came downוַתֵּ֤רֶדva.Te.redH3381fromמִן־min-H4480heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and consumedוַתֹּ֥אכַלva.To.khalH398the captainאֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH853andוְאֶת־ve.'EtH853hisfifty menחֲמִשָּֽׁיו׃cha.mi.ShavH2572.

11וַיָּ֜שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725So the king sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֥חvai.yish.LachH7971to Elijahאֵלָ֛יו'e.LavH413anotherאַחֵ֖ר'a.CherH312captainשַׂר־ חֲמִשִּׁ֥יםsar- cha.mi.ShimH8269 H2572with hisfiftyוַחֲמִשָּׁ֑יוva.cha.mi.ShavH2572men.Andוַיַּ֙עַן֙vai.Ya.'anH6030the captainsaidוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696toאֵלָ֔יו'e.LavH413Elijah, “Manאִ֚ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430כֹּֽה־koh-H3541,the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428declaresאָמַ֥ר'a.MarH559, ‘Come downרֵֽדָה׃Re.dahH3381at onceמְהֵרָ֥הme.he.RahH4120!’”

12Again Elijahאֵלִיָּה֮ וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֲלֵיהֶם֒'e.li.Yah vay.da.Ber 'a.lei.HemH452 H1696 H413repliedוַיַּ֣עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030, “Ifאִם־'im-H518Iאָ֔נִי'A.niH589am a manאִ֤ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ha.'E.lo.HimH430,may fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784come downתֵּ֤רֶדTe.redH3381fromמִן־min-H4480heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and consumeוְתֹאכַ֥לve.to.KhalH398youאֹתְךָ֖'o.te.KhaH853andוְאֶת־ve.'EtH853yourfiftyחֲמִשֶּׁ֑יךָcha.mi.Shei.khaH2572men.”And the fireאֵשׁ־'esh-H784of Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430came downוַתֵּ֤רֶדva.Te.redH3381fromמִן־min-H4480heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and consumedוַתֹּ֥אכַלva.To.khalH398the captainאֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH853andוְאֶת־ve.'EtH853hisfifty menחֲמִשָּֽׁיו׃cha.mi.ShavH2572.

13Soוַיָּ֗שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725the king sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֛חvai.yish.LachH7971a thirdשְׁלִשִׁ֖יםshe.li.ShimH7992captainשַׂר־sar-H8269with his fifty menחֲמִשִּׁ֥יםcha.mi.ShimH2572.And the thirdהַשְּׁלִישִׁ֜יha.she.li.ShiH7992captainשַׂר־sar-H8269וַחֲמִשָּׁ֑יוva.cha.mi.ShavH2572הַחֲמִשִּׁ֨יםha.cha.mi.ShimH2572went upוַיַּ֡עַל וַיָּבֹא֩vai.Ya.'al vai.ya.Vo'H5927 H935,fellוַיִּכְרַ֥עvai.yikh.Ra'H3766onעַל־'al-H5921his kneesבִּרְכָּ֣יו׀bir.KavH1290beforeלְנֶ֣גֶדle.Ne.gedH5048Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452,and begged himוַיִּתְחַנֵּ֤ן וַיְדַבֵּ֣רvai.yit.cha.Nen vay.da.BerH2603 H413 H1696, “Manאִ֚ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,may my lifeנַפְשִׁ֗יnaf.ShiH5315and the livesוְנֶ֨פֶשׁve.Ne.feshH5315of theseאֵ֛לֶּה'E.lehH428fiftyחֲמִשִּׁ֖יםcha.mi.ShimH2572servants of yoursעֲבָדֶ֥יךָֽ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650pleaseנָ֣אna'H4994be preciousתִּֽיקַר־ti.kar-H3365in your sightבְּעֵינֶֽיךָ׃be.'ei.Nei.khaH5869.

14Beholdהִ֠נֵּהHi.nehH2009,fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784has come downיָ֤רְדָהYa.re.dahH3381fromמִן־min-H4480heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and consumedוַ֠תֹּאכַלVa.to.khalH398אֶת־'et-H853the firstהָרִאשֹׁנִ֖יםha.ri.sho.NimH7223וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853twoשְׁנֵ֞יshe.NeiH8147captainsשָׂרֵ֧יsa.ReiH8269of fiftyהַחֲמִשִּׁ֛יםha.cha.mi.ShimH2572,with all their menחֲמִשֵּׁיהֶ֑םcha.mi.shei.HemH2572.But nowוְעַתָּ֕הve.'a.TahH6258may my lifeנַפְשִׁ֖יnaf.ShiH5315be preciousתִּיקַ֥רti.KarH3365in your sightבְּעֵינֶֽיךָ׃ סbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869.”

15Then the angelמַלְאַ֤ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיְדַבֵּ֞רvay.da.BerH1696toאֶל־'el-H413Elijahאֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452, “Go downרֵ֣דredH3381with himאוֹת֔וֹ'o.ToH854.Do notאַל־'al-H408be afraidתִּירָ֖אti.Ra'H3372of himמִפָּנָ֑יוmi.pa.NavH6440.”So Elijah got upוַיָּ֛קָםvai.Ya.komH6965and went downוַיֵּ֥רֶדvai.Ye.redH3381with himאוֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH854toאֶל־'el-H413the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428.

16And Elijah saidוַיְדַבֵּ֨רvay.da.BerH1696to King Ahaziahאֵלָ֜יו'e.LavH413, “This is whatכֹּֽה־koh-H3541the LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559:Is there really noהַֽמִבְּלִ֤י אֵין־ha.mi.be.Li 'ein-H1097 H369Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478for you to inquireלִדְרֹשׁ֮lid.RoshH1875of His wordבִּדְבָר֑וֹbid.va.RoH1697?Is that whyיַ֜עַןYa.'anH3282אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you have sentשָׁלַ֣חְתָּsha.Lach.taH7971messengersמַלְאָכִים֮mal.'a.KhimH4397to inquireלִדְרֹ֖שׁlid.RoshH1875of Baal-zebubH1176,the godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430of Ekronעֶקְרוֹן֒'ek.rOnH6138?Thereforeלָ֠כֵןLa.khenH3651you will notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808get up fromתֵרֵ֥דte.RedH3381the bedהַמִּטָּ֞הha.mi.TahH4296on whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you are lyingעָלִ֥יתָ שָּׁ֛ם'a.Li.ta shamH5927 H8033מִמֶּ֖נָּהmi.Me.nahH4480כִּֽי־ki-H3588.You will surely dieH4191.”

17So Ahaziah diedוַיָּ֜מָתvai.Ya.motH4191according to the wordכִּדְבַ֥רkid.VarH1697of the LORDיְהוָ֣ה׀Yah.wehH3068thatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452had spokenדִּבֶּ֣רdi.BerH1696.And sinceכִּ֛יkiH3588he hadהָ֥יָהHa.yahH1961noלֹֽא־lo'-H3808sonבֶּן־ben-H1121,Jehoramיְהוֹרָם֙ye.ho.RamH3088succeeded himוַיִּמְלֹ֤ךְvai.yim.LokhH4427תַּחְתָּ֔יו פtach.TavH8478in the secondשְׁתַּ֔יִםshe.Ta.yimH8147yearבִּשְׁנַ֣תbish.NatH8141of the reignמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Jehoramלִיהוֹרָ֥םli.ho.RamH3088sonבֵּֽן׃BenH1121of Jehoshaphatיְהוֹשָׁפָ֖טye.ho.sha.FatH3092over Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063.
