1Then Moabמוֹאָב֙mo.'AvH4124rebelledוַיִּפְשַׁ֤עvai.yif.Sha'H6586against Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478afterאַחֲרֵ֖י'a.cha.ReiH310the deathמ֥וֹתMotH4194of Ahabאַחְאָֽב׃'ach.'AvH256.

2And Ahaziahאֲחַזְיָ֜ה'a.chaz.YahH274fell downוַיִּפֹּ֨לvai.yi.PolH5307through a latticeהַשְּׂבָכָ֗הha.se.va.KhahH7639in his upper chamberבַּעֲלִיָּת֛וֹba.'a.li.ya.ToH5944that wasin Samariaבְּשֹׁמְר֖וֹןbe.sho.me.RonH8111,and was sickוַיָּ֑חַלvai.Ya.chalH2470:and he sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֣חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֔יםmal.'a.KhimH4397,and saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto them, GoH3212,enquireדִרְשׁ֗וּdir.ShuH1875of Baal–zebubH1176the godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Ekronעֶקְר֔וֹןek.RonH6138whether I shall recoverאֶחְיֶ֖ה'ech.YehH2421of this diseaseמֵחֳלִ֥יme.cho.LiH2483.

3But the angelוּמַלְאַ֣ךְu.mal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068saidדִּבֶּר֙di.BerH1696to Elijahאֵלִיָּ֣ה'e.li.YahH452the Tishbiteהַתִּשְׁבִּ֔יha.tish.BiH8664,Ariseק֣וּםkumH6965,go upעֲלֵ֔ה'a.LehH5927to meetH7125the messengersמַלְאֲכֵ֣יmal.'a.KheiH4397of the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Samariaשֹׁמְר֑וֹןsho.me.RonH8111,and sayוְדַבֵּ֣רve.da.BerH1696unto them, Is it not because there isnot a Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478, thatye goהֹֽלְכִ֔יםho.le.KhimH1980to enquireלִדְרֹ֕שׁlid.RoshH1875of Baal–zebubH1176the godאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of Ekronעֶקְרֽוֹן׃ek.RonH6138?

4Now therefore thus saithאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,Thou shalt not come downתֵרֵ֥דte.RedH3381from that bedהַמִּטָּ֞הha.mi.TahH4296on which thou art gone upעָלִ֥יתָ'a.Li.taH5927,but shalt surelyמ֣וֹתMotH4191dieתָּמ֑וּתta.MutH4191.And Elijahאֵלִיָּֽה׃'e.li.YahH452departedH3212.

5And when the messengersהַמַּלְאָכִ֖יםha.mal.'a.KhimH4397turned backוַיָּשׁ֥וּבוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725unto him, he saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto them, Why are ye nowזֶּ֥הzehH2088turned backשַׁבְתֶּֽם׃shav.TemH7725?

6And they saidוַיֹּאמְר֨וּvai.yo.me.RuH559unto him, There cameH5927a manאִ֣ישׁ׀'ishH376upH5927to meetH7125us, and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto us, GoH3212,turn againשׁוּבוּ֮shu.VuH7725unto the kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428that sentשָׁלַ֣חsha.LachH7971you, and sayוְדִבַּרְתֶּ֣םve.di.bar.TemH1696unto him, Thus saithאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068, Is it not because there isnot a Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478, thatthou sendestשֹׁלֵ֔חַsho.Le.achH7971to enquireלִדְרֹ֕שׁlid.RoshH1875of Baal–zebubH1176the godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Ekronעֶקְר֑וֹןek.RonH6138?therefore thou shalt not come downתֵרֵ֥דte.RedH3381from that bedהַמִּטָּ֞הha.mi.TahH4296on which thou art gone upH5927,but shalt surelyמ֥וֹתMotH4191dieתָּמֽוּת׃ta.MutH4191.

7And he saidוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696unto them, What mannerמִשְׁפַּ֣טmish.PatH4941of manהָאִ֔ישׁha.'IshH376was hewhich came upעָלָ֖ה'a.LahH5927to meetH7125you, and toldוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696you these wordsהַדְּבָרִ֖יםha.de.va.RimH1697?

8And they answeredוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559him, He wasan hairyשֵׂעָ֔רse.'ArH8181manאִ֚ישׁ בַּ֣עַל'ish Ba.'alH376 H1167,and girtאָז֣וּר'a.ZurH247with a girdleוְאֵז֥וֹרve.'e.ZorH232of leatherע֖וֹרorH5785about his loinsבְּמָתְנָ֑יוbe.ma.te.NavH4975.And he saidוַיֹּאמַ֕רvai.yo.MarH559, It isElijahאֵלִיָּ֥ה'e.li.YahH452the Tishbiteהַתִּשְׁבִּ֖יha.tish.BiH8664.

9Then the kingהַמֶּ֥לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֥חvai.yish.LachH7971unto him a captainשַׂר־sar-H8269of fiftyחֲמִשִּׁ֖יםcha.mi.ShimH2572with his fiftyוַחֲמִשָּׁ֑יוva.cha.mi.ShavH2572.And he went upוַיַּ֣עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927to him: and, behold, he satיֹשֵׁב֙yo.ShevH3427on the topרֹ֣אשׁroshH7218of an hillהָהָ֔רha.HarH2022.And he spakeוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696unto him, Thou manאִ֚ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,the kingH4428hath saidדִּבֶּ֖רdi.BerH1696,Come downרֵֽדָה׃Re.dahH3381.

10And Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452answeredוַיַּעֲנֶ֣הvai.ya.'a.NehH6030and saidוַיְדַבֵּר֮vay.da.BerH1696to the captainשַׂ֣רsarH8269of fiftyהַחֲמִשִּׁים֒ha.cha.mi.ShimH2572, If I bea manאִ֤ישׁ'ishH376of Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430,then let fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784come downתֵּ֤רֶדTe.redH3381from heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064,and consumeוְתֹאכַ֥לve.to.KhalH398thee and thy fiftyחֲמִשֶּׁ֑יךָcha.mi.Shei.khaH2572.And there came downוַתֵּ֤רֶדva.Te.redH3381fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784from heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064,and consumedוַתֹּ֥אכַלva.To.khalH398him and his fiftyחֲמִשָּֽׁיו׃cha.mi.ShavH2572.

11Againוַיָּ֜שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725also he sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֥חvai.yish.LachH7971unto him anotherאַחֵ֖ר'a.CherH312captainשַׂר־sar-H8269of fiftyחֲמִשִּׁ֥יםcha.mi.ShimH2572with his fiftyוַחֲמִשָּׁ֑יוva.cha.mi.ShavH2572.And he answeredוַיַּ֙עַן֙vai.Ya.'anH6030and saidוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696unto him, O manאִ֚ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,thus hath the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428saidאָמַ֥ר'a.MarH559,Come downרֵֽדָה׃Re.dahH3381quicklyמְהֵרָ֥הme.he.RahH4120.

12And Elijahאֵלִיָּה֮'e.li.YahH452answeredוַיַּ֣עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030and saidוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696unto them, If I bea manאִ֤ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ha.'E.lo.HimH430,let fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784come downתֵּ֤רֶדTe.redH3381from heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064,and consumeוְתֹאכַ֥לve.to.KhalH398thee and thy fiftyחֲמִשֶּׁ֑יךָcha.mi.Shei.khaH2572.And the fireאֵשׁ־'esh-H784of Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430came downוַתֵּ֤רֶדva.Te.redH3381from heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064,and consumedוַתֹּ֥אכַלva.To.khalH398him and his fiftyחֲמִשָּֽׁיו׃cha.mi.ShavH2572.

13And he sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֛חvai.yish.LachH7971againוַיָּ֗שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725a captainשַׂר־sar-H8269of the thirdשְׁלִשִׁ֖יםshe.li.ShimH7992fiftyחֲמִשִּׁ֥יםcha.mi.ShimH2572with his fiftyוַחֲמִשָּׁ֑יוva.cha.mi.ShavH2572.And the thirdהַשְּׁלִישִׁ֜יha.she.li.ShiH7992captainשַׂר־sar-H8269of fiftyהַחֲמִשִּׁ֨יםha.cha.mi.ShimH2572went upוַיַּ֡עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927,and cameוַיָּבֹא֩vai.ya.Vo'H935and fellוַיִּכְרַ֥עvai.yikh.Ra'H3766on his kneesבִּרְכָּ֣יו׀bir.KavH1290beforeלְנֶ֣גֶדle.Ne.gedH5048Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452,and besoughtוַיִּתְחַנֵּ֤ןvai.yit.cha.NenH2603him, and saidוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696unto him, O manאִ֚ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,I pray thee, let my lifeנַפְשִׁ֗יnaf.ShiH5315,and the lifeוְנֶ֨פֶשׁve.Ne.feshH5315of these fiftyחֲמִשִּׁ֖יםcha.mi.ShimH2572thy servantsעֲבָדֶ֥יךָֽ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650,be preciousתִּֽיקַר־ti.kar-H3365in thy sightבְּעֵינֶֽיךָ׃be.'ei.Nei.khaH5869.

14Behold, there cameיָ֤רְדָהYa.re.dahH3381fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784downH3381from heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064,and burnt upוַ֠תֹּאכַלVa.to.khalH398the twoשְׁנֵ֞יshe.NeiH8147captainsשָׂרֵ֧יsa.ReiH8269of the formerהָרִאשֹׁנִ֖יםha.ri.sho.NimH7223fiftiesהַחֲמִשִּׁ֛יםha.cha.mi.ShimH2572with their fiftiesחֲמִשֵּׁיהֶ֑םcha.mi.shei.HemH2572:therefore let my lifeנַפְשִׁ֖יnaf.ShiH5315now be preciousתִּיקַ֥רti.KarH3365in thy sightבְּעֵינֶֽיךָ׃ סbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869.

15And the angelמַלְאַ֤ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיְדַבֵּ֞רvay.da.BerH1696unto Elijahאֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452,Go downרֵ֣דredH3381with him: be not afraidתִּירָ֖אti.Ra'H3372of himמִפָּנָ֑יוmi.pa.NavH6440.And he aroseוַיָּ֛קָםvai.Ya.komH6965,and went downוַיֵּ֥רֶדvai.Ye.redH3381with him unto the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428.

16And he saidוַיְדַבֵּ֨רvay.da.BerH1696unto him, Thus saithאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068,Forasmuch as thou hast sentשָׁלַ֣חְתָּsha.Lach.taH7971messengersמַלְאָכִים֮mal.'a.KhimH4397to enquireלִדְרֹשׁ֮lid.RoshH1875of Baal–zebubH1176the godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Ekronעֶקְרוֹן֒'ek.rOnH6138, is it not because there isno Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478to enquireלִדְרֹ֖שׁlid.RoshH1875of his wordבִּדְבָר֑וֹbid.va.RoH1697?therefore thou shalt not come downתֵרֵ֥דte.RedH3381off that bedהַמִּטָּ֞הha.mi.TahH4296on which thou art gone upעָלִ֥יתָ'a.Li.taH5927,but shalt surelyמ֥וֹתMotH4191dieתָּמֽוּת׃ta.MutH4191.

17So he diedוַיָּ֜מָתvai.Ya.motH4191according to the wordכִּדְבַ֥רkid.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֣ה׀Yah.wehH3068which Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452had spokenדִּבֶּ֣רdi.BerH1696.And Jehoramיְהוֹרָם֙ye.ho.RamH3088reignedוַיִּמְלֹ֤ךְvai.yim.LokhH4427in his stead in the secondשְׁתַּ֔יִםshe.Ta.yimH8147yearבִּשְׁנַ֣תbish.NatH8141of Jehoramלִיהוֹרָ֥םli.ho.RamH3088the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jehoshaphatיְהוֹשָׁפָ֖טye.ho.sha.FatH3092kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063;because he had no sonבֵּֽן׃BenH1121.
