Revised Version 1895

1And they continued threeH7969 yearsH8141 withoutH369 warH4421 betweenH996 SyriaH758 and IsraelH3478. 2And it cameH1961 to passH1961 in the thirdH7992 yearH8141, that JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 cameH1961 downH3381 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 3And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto his servantsH5650, KnowH3045 ye that Ramoth-gileadH7433 is ours, and weH587 be stillH2814, and takeH3947 it notH3588 outH3045 of the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of SyriaH758? 4And he saidH559 unto JehoshaphatH3092, Wilt thou go with meH413 to battleH4421 to Ramoth-gileadH7433? And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, I am as thou art, my peopleH5971 as thy peopleH5971, my horsesH5483 as thy horsesH5483. 5And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559 unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, InquireH1875, I prayH4994 thee, at the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 todayH3117. 6Then the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 gatheredH6908 the prophetsH5030 togetherH6908, aboutH5921 fourH702 hundredH3967 menH376, and saidH559 unto them, Shall I goH5927 againstH5921 Ramoth-gileadH7433 to battleH4421, or shall I forbear? And they saidH559, GoH5927 upH5927; for the LordH136 shall deliverH5414 it intoH413 the handH3027 of the kingH4428. 7But JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, Is there notH369 hereH6311 besidesH5750 a prophetH5030 of the LORDH3068, that we might inquireH1875 of him? 8And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto JehoshaphatH3092, There is yet one manH376 by whomH259 weH3588 may inquireH1875 of the LORDH3068, MicaiahH4321 the sonH1121 of ImlahH3229: but I hateH8130 him; for he doth notH3808 prophesyH5012 goodH2896 concerning meH413, but evilH7451. And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, LetH408 notH3808 the kingH4428 sayH559 soH3651. 9Then the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 calledH7121 an officerH5631, and saidH559, Fetch quicklyH4116 MicaiahH4321 the sonH1121 of ImlahH3229. 10Now the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 satH3427 eachH376 on his throneH3678, arrayedH3847 in their robesH899, in an openH6440 placeH3605 at the entranceH6607 of the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111; and allH3605 the prophetsH5030 prophesiedH5012 beforeH6440 them. 11And ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of ChenaanahH3668 madeH6213 him hornsH7161 of ironH1270, and saidH559, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, With theseH428 shalt thou pushH5055 the Syrians, untilH5704 they be consumedH3615. 12And allH3605 the prophetsH5030 prophesiedH5012 soH3651, sayingH559, GoH5927 upH5927 to Ramoth-gileadH7433, and prosperH6743: for the LORDH3068 shall deliverH5414 it intoH3027 the handH3027 of the kingH4428. 13And the messengerH4397 that wentH1980 to callH7121 MicaiahH4321 spake unto him, sayingH559, BeholdH2009 nowH4994, the wordsH1697 of the prophetsH5030 declareH1696 goodH2896 unto the kingH4428 with one mouthH6310: letH4994 thy wordH1697, I prayH4994 thee, be like the wordH1697 of one of them, and speakH1696 thou goodH2896. 14And MicaiahH4321 saidH559, As the LORDH3068 liveth, whatH834 the LORDH3068 saith unto meH413, that will I speakH1696. 15And when he was comeH935 to the kingH4428, the kingH4428 saidH559 unto him, MicaiahH4321, shall weH518 goH935 to Ramoth-gileadH7433 to battleH4421, or shall weH518 forbear? And he answeredH559 him, GoH935 upH5927, and prosperH6743; and the LORDH3068 shall deliverH5414 it intoH413 the handH3027 of the kingH4428. 16And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto him, HowH4100 manyH4100 timesH6471 shall I adjureH7650 thee that thou speakH1696 unto meH413 nothingH3808 but the truthH571 in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068? 17And he saidH559, I sawH7200 allH3605 IsraelH3478 scatteredH6327 uponH413 the mountainsH2022, as sheepH6629 that have noH3808 shepherdH7462: and the LORDH3068 saidH559, TheseH428 have noH3808 masterH113; letH3808 them returnH7725 everyH3605 manH376 to his houseH1004 in peaceH7965. 18And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 to JehoshaphatH3092, DidH3808 I notH3808 tellH559 thee that he would notH3808 prophesyH5012 goodH2896 concerning meH413, but evilH7451? 19And he saidH559, Therefore hearH8085 thou the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068: I sawH7200 the LORDH3068 sittingH3427 on his throneH3678, and allH3605 the hostH6635 of heavenH8064 standingH5975 by him on his rightH3225 handH3225 and on his leftH8040. 20And the LORDH3068 saidH559, Who shall entice AhabH256, that he may goH5927 upH5927 and fallH5307 at Ramoth-gileadH7433? And one saidH559 on this manner; and anotherH2088 saidH559 on that manner. 21And there cameH3318 forthH3318 a spiritH7307, and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and saidH559, I will entice him. 22And the LORD saidH559 unto him, Wherewith? And he saidH559, I will goH3318 forthH3318, and will be a lyingH8267 spiritH7307 in the mouthH6310 of allH3605 his prophetsH5030. And he saidH559, Thou shalt entice him, and shalt prevailH3201 also: goH3318 forthH3318, and doH6213 soH3651. 23NowH6258 therefore, beholdH2009, the LORDH3068 hath putH5414 a lyingH8267 spiritH7307 in the mouthH6310 of allH3605 theseH428 thy prophetsH5030; and the LORDH3068 hath spokenH1696 evilH7451 concerning thee. 24Then ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of ChenaanahH3668 cameH5066 nearH5066, and smoteH5221 MicaiahH4321 on the cheekH3895, and saidH559, WhichH2088 wayH2088 wentH5066 the spiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 from meH5921 to speakH1696 unto thee? 25And MicaiahH4321 saidH559, BeholdH2005, thou shalt seeH7200 on that dayH3117, when thou shalt goH935 intoH935 an innerH2315 chamberH2315 to hideH2247 thyself. 26And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559, TakeH3947 MicaiahH4321, and carryH3947 him backH7725 unto AmonH526 the governorH8269 of the cityH5892, and to JoashH3101 the king’sH4428 sonH1121; 27and sayH559, ThusH3541 saith the kingH4428, PutH7760 this fellow in the prisonH3608, and feedH398 him with breadH3899 of affliction and with waterH4325 of affliction, untilH5704 I comeH935 in peaceH7965. 28And MicaiahH4321 saidH559, IfH518 thou returnH7725 at allH3605 in peaceH7965, the LORDH3068 hath notH3808 spokenH1696 by meH7725. And he saidH559, HearH8085, ye peoplesH5971, allH3605 of youH518. 29SoH5927 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 wentH5927 upH5927 to Ramoth-gileadH7433. 30And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto JehoshaphatH3092, I will disguiseH2664 myself, and goH935 intoH413 the battleH4421; but putH3847 thou on thy robesH899. And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 disguisedH2664 himselfH413, and wentH935 intoH413 the battleH4421. 31NowH3588 the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 had commandedH6680 the thirtyH7970 and twoH8147 captainsH8269 of his chariotsH7393, sayingH559, FightH3898 neitherH3808 with smallH6996 norH3808 greatH1419, save onlyH905 with the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 32And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when the captainsH8269 of the chariotsH7393 sawH7200 JehoshaphatH3092, that they saidH559, SurelyH389 it is the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478; and they turnedH5493 asideH5493 to fightH3898 againstH5921 him: and JehoshaphatH3092 criedH2199 outH2199. 33And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when the captainsH8269 of the chariotsH7393 sawH7200 that it was notH3808 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, that they turnedH7725 backH7725 from pursuingH310 him. 34And a certainH376 manH376 drewH4900 his bowH7198 at a venture, and smoteH5221 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 betweenH996 the joints of the harness: wherefore he saidH559 unto the driverH7395 of his chariotH7395, TurnH2015 thine handH3027, and carryH3318 meH4480 outH3318 of the hostH4264; for I am sore woundedH5221. 35And the battleH4421 increased that dayH3117: and the kingH4428 was stayedH5975 upH5927 in his chariotH4818 againstH413 the Syrians, and diedH4191 at even: and the bloodH1818 ranH3332 outH3332 of the woundH4347 intoH413 the bottomH2436 of the chariotH4818. 36And there wentH935 a cryH7440 throughoutH413 the hostH4264 aboutH413 the goingH935 down of the sunH8121, sayingH559, EveryH376 manH376 to his cityH5892, and everyH376 manH376 to his countryH776. 37SoH935 the kingH4428 diedH4191, and was broughtH935 to SamariaH8111; and they buriedH6912 the kingH4428 in SamariaH8111. 38And they washedH7364 the chariotH7393 by the poolH1295 of SamariaH8111; and the dogsH3611 lickedH3952 upH5921 his bloodH1818; (nowH1696 the harlots washedH7364 themselvesH1696 there;) accordingH5921 unto the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 whichH834 he spake. 39NowH3117 the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of AhabH256, and allH3605 that he didH6213, and the ivoryH8127 houseH1004 whichH834 he builtH1129, and allH3605 the citiesH5892 that he builtH1129, are they notH3808 writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 40So AhabH256 sleptH7901 with his fathersH1; and AhaziahH274 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his steadH8478. 41And JehoshaphatH3092 the sonH1121 of AsaH609 began to reignH4427 over JudahH3063 in the fourthH702 yearH8141 of AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 42JehoshaphatH3092 was thirtyH7970 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 twentyH6242 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389. And his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was AzubahH5806 the daughterH1323 of ShilhiH7977. 43And he walked in allH3605 the wayH1870 of AsaH609 his fatherH1; he turnedH5493 notH3808 asideH5493 from it, doingH6213 that whichH5869 was rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of the LORDH3068: howbeit the high placesH3605 were notH3808 takenH5493 awayH5493; the peopleH3808 still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high placesH3605. 44And Jehoshaphat madeH2076 peace with the king of IsraelH5971. 45Now the rest of the acts of JehoshaphatH3092, and his might that he shewed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of Judah? 46And the remnant of the sodomites, whichH834 remained in the daysH3117 of his father Asa, he put away outH5921 of the land. 47And there was noH4480 king in Edom: a deputy was king. 48Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went notH369; for the ships were broken at Ezion-geber. 49Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto JehoshaphatH3092, LetH1980 my servants goH1980 with thy servants in the shipsH591. But JehoshaphatH3092 would notH3808. 50And JehoshaphatH3092 slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of DavidH5973 his father: and Jehoram his sonH1121 reigned in his stead. 51Ahaziah the sonH1121 of Ahab began to reignH4427 over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4427 of Judah, and he reignedH4427 two years over Israel. 52And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the wayH5921 of his father, and in the wayH5921 of his mother, and in the wayH5921 of Jeroboam the sonH1121 of Nebat, wherein he made IsraelH3478 to sin. 53And he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger the LORDH3068, the GodH3068 of IsraelH3478, according to all that his fatherH1 had doneH6213.
