1 Kings 1:2-15
2Wherefore his servantsH5650 saidH559 unto him, Let there beH1961 soughtH1245 for my lordH113 the kingH4428 a youngH5291 virginH1330: and let her standH5975 before the kingH4428, and cherish him; and let her lieH7901 in thy bosomH2436, that my lordH113 the kingH4428 may get heat. 3So they soughtH1245 for a fair damsel throughout all the bordersH1366 of IsraelH3478, and foundH4672 AbishagH49 the ShunammiteH7767, and broughtH935 her to the kingH4428. 4And the damsel wasH1961 veryH3966 fair; and she cherished the kingH4428, and ministered to him; but the kingH4428 knewH3045 her not.
5Then AdonijahH138 the sonH1121 of HaggithH2294 exalted himself, sayingH559, I will be kingH4427: and he prepared him chariotsH7393 and horsemenH6571, and fiftyH2572 menH376 to runH7323 before him. 6And his fatherH1 had not displeased him at any time in sayingH559, WhyH4069 hast thou done so? and he was alsoH1571 a veryH3966 goodly man; and he was bornH3205 after AbsalomH53. 7And he conferred with JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870, and with AbiatharH54 the priestH3548: and they following AdonijahH138 helpedH5826 him. 8But ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, and BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, and NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, and ShimeiH8096, and Rei, and the mightyH1368 menH1368 that belongedH1961 to DavidH1732, were not with AdonijahH138. 9And AdonijahH138 slew sheepH6629 and oxenH1241 and fatlingsH4806 by the stoneH68 of Zoheleth, which is beside En-rogelH5883; and he calledH7121 all his brethren, the king’sH4428 sonsH1121, and all the menH376 of JudahH3063, the king’sH4428 servantsH5650: 10but NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, and BenaiahH1141, and the mightyH1368 menH1368, and SolomonH8010 his brotherH251, he calledH7121 not.
11Then NathanH5416 spake unto Bath-sheba the motherH517 of SolomonH8010, sayingH559, Hast thou not heardH8085 that AdonijahH138 the sonH1121 of HaggithH2294 doth reignH4427, and DavidH1732 our lordH113 knoweth it not? 12NowH6258 thereforeH6258 come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counselH6098, that thou mayest saveH4422 thine ownH5315 lifeH5315, and the lifeH5315 of thy sonH1121 SolomonH8010. 13GoH935 and get thee in unto kingH4428 DavidH1732, and sayH559 unto him, Didst not thou, my lordH113, O kingH4428, swearH7650 unto thy handmaid, sayingH559, Assuredly SolomonH8010 thy sonH1121 shall reignH4427 after me, and he shall sitH3427 upon my throneH3678? whyH4069 then doth AdonijahH138 reignH4427? 14Behold, while thou yetH5750 talkest there with the kingH4428, I also will comeH935 in after thee, and confirm thy wordsH1697.
15And Bath-sheba wentH935 in unto the kingH4428 into the chamberH2315: and the kingH4428 was veryH3966 oldH2204; and AbishagH49 the ShunammiteH7767 was ministering unto the kingH4428.
