1 Samuel 15
Revised Version 1895
1And SamuelH8050 saidH559 unto SaulH7586, The LORDH3068 sentH7971 meH413 to anointH4886 thee to be kingH4428 over his peopleH5971, over IsraelH3478: nowH6258 therefore hearken thou unto the voiceH6963 the wordsH1697 of the LORDH3068. 2ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, I have marked that whichH834 AmalekH6002 didH6213 to IsraelH3478, howH834 he setH7760 himself againstH4714 him in the wayH1870, when he cameH5927 upH5927 outH853 of EgyptH4714. 3NowH6258 go and smiteH5221 AmalekH6002, and utterly destroyH2763 allH3605 that they have, and spareH2550 them notH3808; but slayH4191 bothH3605 manH376 and womanH802, infantH3243 and suckling, oxH7794 and sheepH7716, camelH1581 and ass. 4And SaulH7586 summonedH8085 the peopleH5971, and numberedH6485 them in TelaimH2923, twoH3967 hundredH3967 thousandH505 footmenH7273, and tenH6235 thousandH505 menH376 of JudahH3063. 5And SaulH7586 cameH935 to the cityH5892 of AmalekH6002, and laidH935 wait in the valleyH5158. 6And SaulH7586 saidH559 unto the KenitesH7017, GoH5927, departH5493, getH8432 youH859 downH3381 from among the AmalekitesH6002, lestH6435 I destroyH3605 youH859 with them: for ye shewed kindnessH2617 to allH3605 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, when they cameH5927 upH5927 outH413 of EgyptH4714. SoH6213 the KenitesH7017 departedH5493 from among the AmalekitesH6002. 7And SaulH7586 SmoteH5221 the AmalekitesH6002, from HavilahH2341 as thou goest to ShurH7793, that is beforeH6440 EgyptH4714. 8And he tookH8610 AgagH90 the kingH4428 of the AmalekitesH6002 aliveH2416, and utterly destroyed allH3605 the peopleH5971 with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719. 9But SaulH7586 and the peopleH5971 sparedH2550 AgagH90, and the bestH4315 of the sheepH6629, and of the oxenH1241, and of the fatlingsH4932, and the lambsH3733, and allH3605 that was goodH2896, and would notH3808 utterly destroyH2763 them: but everyH3605 thingH3605 that was vile and refuseH3808, that they destroyed utterly. 10Then cameH1961 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 unto SamuelH8050, sayingH559, 11It repenteth meH413 that I have setH6965 upH6965 SaulH7586 to be kingH4428: for he is turnedH7725 backH7725 from followingH310 meH413, and hath notH3808 performed my commandmentsH1697. And SamuelH8050 was wroth; and he criedH2199 unto the LORDH3068 allH3605 nightH3915. 12And SamuelH8050 roseH7925 earlyH7925 to meetH7122 SaulH7586 in the morningH1242; and it was toldH5046 SamuelH8050, sayingH559, SaulH7586 cameH935 to CarmelH3760, and, beholdH2009, he setH5324 him upH7925 a monumentH3027, and is goneH3381 aboutH5437, and passedH5674 on, and goneH3381 downH3381 to GilgalH1537. 13And SamuelH8050 cameH935 to SaulH7586: and SaulH7586 saidH559 unto him, BlessedH1288 be thou of the LORDH3068: I have performed the commandmentH1697 of the LORDH3068. 14And SamuelH8050 saidH559, WhatH4100 meaneth then this bleatingH6963 of the sheepH6629 in mine earsH241, and the lowingH6963 of the oxenH1241 whichH834 I hearH8085? 15And SaulH7586 saidH559, They have broughtH935 them from the AmalekitesH6003: for the peopleH5971 sparedH2550 the bestH4315 of the sheepH6629 and of the oxenH1241, to sacrificeH2076 unto the LORDH3068 thy GodH430; and the restH3498 weH834 have utterly destroyed. 16Then SamuelH8050 saidH559 unto SaulH7586, Stay, and I will tellH5046 thee whatH834 the LORDH3068 hath saidH559 to meH413 this nightH3915. And he saidH559 unto him, SayH559 on. 17And SamuelH8050 saidH559, ThoughH518 thou wast littleH6996 in thine ownH5869 sightH5869, wast thou notH3808 made the headH7218 of the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478? And the LORDH3068 anointedH4886 thee kingH4428 over IsraelH3478; 18and the LORDH3068 sentH7971 thee on a journeyH1870, and saidH559, GoH7971 and utterly destroyH3615 the sinnersH2400 the AmalekitesH6002, and fightH3898 againstH3898 them untilH5704 they be consumedH3615. 19wherefore then didst thou notH3808 obeyH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068, but didst fly uponH413 the spoilH7998, and didst that whichH5869 was evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068? 20And SaulH7586 saidH559 unto SamuelH8050, Yea, I have obeyedH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068, and have goneH935 the wayH1870 whichH834 the LORDH3068 sentH7971 meH413, and have broughtH935 AgagH90 the kingH4428 of AmalekH6002, and have utterly destroyed the AmalekitesH6002. 21But the peopleH5971 tookH3947 of the spoilH7998, sheepH6629 and oxenH1241, the chief of the devotedH2764 things, to sacrificeH2076 unto the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 in GilgalH1537. 22And SamuelH8050 saidH559, Hath the LORDH3068 as greatH2896 delightH2656 in burntH5930 offeringsH3068 and sacrificesH2077, as in obeyingH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068? BeholdH2009, to obeyH8085 is betterH2896 thanH2896 sacrificeH2077, and to hearken thanH2896 the fatH2459 of ramsH352. 23For rebellionH4805 is as the sinH2403 of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatryH8655 and teraphimH8655. BecauseH3588 thou hast rejectedH3988 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, he hath also rejectedH3988 thee from being kingH4428. 24And SaulH7586 saidH559 unto SamuelH8050, I have sinnedH2398: for I have transgressed the commandmentH6310 of the LORDH3068, and thy wordsH1697: becauseH3588 I fearedH3372 the peopleH5971, and obeyedH8085 their voiceH6963. 25NowH6258 therefore, I prayH4994 thee, pardonH5375 my sinH2403, and turnH7725 againH7725 with meH4994, that I may worshipH7812 the LORDH3068. 26And SamuelH8050 saidH559 unto SaulH7586, I will notH3808 returnH7725 with thee: for thou hast rejectedH3988 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, and the LORDH3068 hath rejectedH3988 thee from beingH1961 kingH4428 over IsraelH3478. 27And as SamuelH8050 turnedH5437 aboutH5437 to goH5437 awayH5437, he laidH2388 holdH2388 upon the skirtH3671 of his robeH4598, and it rent. 28And SamuelH8050 saidH559 unto him, The LORDH3068 hath rent the kingdomH4468 of IsraelH3478 from thee this dayH3117, and hath givenH5414 it to a neighbour of thine, that is betterH2896 thanH4480 thou. 29And also the StrengthH5331 of IsraelH3478 will notH3808 lieH8266 norH3808 repentH5162: for he is notH3808 a manH120. that he should repentH5162. 30Then he saidH559, I have sinnedH2398: yet honour meH4994 nowH6258, I prayH4994 thee, beforeH5048 the eldersH2205 of my peopleH5971, and beforeH5048 IsraelH3478, and turnH7725 againH7725 with meH4994, that I may worshipH7812 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430. 31SoH7725 SamuelH8050 turnedH7725 againH7725 afterH310 SaulH7586; and SaulH7586 worshipped the LORDH3068. 32Then saidH559 SamuelH8050, BringH5066 ye hither to meH413 AgagH90 the kingH4428 of the AmalekitesH6002. And AgagH90 cameH5066 unto him delicately. And AgagH90 saidH559, SurelyH403 the bitternessH4751 of deathH4194 is pastH5493. 33And SamuelH8050 saidH559, As thy swordH2719 hath madeH7921 womenH802 childlessH7921, soH3651 shall thy motherH517 be childlessH7921 among womenH802. And SamuelH8050 hewedH8158 AgagH90 in piecesH8158 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 in GilgalH1537. 34Then SamuelH8050 wentH5927 to RamahH7414; and SaulH7586 wentH5927 upH5927 to his houseH1004 to GibeahH1390 of SaulH7586. 35And SamuelH8050 cameH413 noH3808 moreH3254 to seeH7200 SaulH7586 untilH5704 the dayH3117 of his deathH4194; for SamuelH8050 mournedH56 for SaulH7586: and the LORDH3068 repentedH5162 that he had made SaulH7586 kingH4427 over IsraelH3478.
