1 Samuel 5
Revised Version 1895
1NowH935 the PhilistinesH6430 had takenH3947 the arkH727 of GodH430, and they broughtH935 it from Eben-ezer unto AshdodH795. 2And the PhilistinesH6430 tookH3947 the arkH727 of GodH430, and broughtH935 it intoH935 the houseH1004 of DagonH1712, and setH935 it by DagonH1712. 3And when they of AshdodH796 aroseH7925 earlyH7925 on the morrow, beholdH2009, DagonH1712 was fallenH5307 uponH5307 his faceH6440 to the groundH776 beforeH6440 the arkH727 of the LORDH3068. And they tookH3947 DagonH1712, and setH7725 him in his placeH4725 againH7725. 4And when they aroseH7925 earlyH7925 on the morrow morningH1242, beholdH2009, DagonH1712 was fallenH5307 uponH5921 his faceH6440 to the groundH776 beforeH6440 the arkH727 of the LORDH3068; and the headH7218 of DagonH1712 and bothH8147 the palmsH3709 of his handsH3027 layH5307 cutH3772 offH3772 uponH5921 the thresholdH4670; onlyH7535 the stump of DagonH1712 was leftH7604 to him. 5Therefore neitherH3808 the priestsH3548 of DagonH1712, norH3808 anyH3605 that comeH935 intoH935 Dagon’sH1712 houseH1004, treadH1869 on the thresholdH4670 of DagonH1712 in AshdodH795, unto this dayH3117. 6But the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 was heavyH3513 uponH413 them of AshdodH795, and he destroyedH5221 them, and smoteH5221 them with tumours, evenH853 AshdodH795 and the bordersH1366 thereof. 7And when the menH376 of AshdodH795 sawH7200 that it was soH3651, they saidH559, The arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 shall notH3808 abideH3427 with usH5921: for his handH3027 is sore uponH5921 as, and uponH5921 DagonH1712 our godH430. 8They sentH7971 therefore and gatheredH622 allH3605 the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430 unto them, and saidH559, WhatH4100 shall weH3605 doH6213 with the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478? And they answeredH559, LetH7971 the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 be carriedH6213 aboutH413 unto GathH1661. And they carriedH6213 the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 aboutH413 thither. 9And it was soH1961, that, afterH310 they had carried it aboutH1961, the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 was againstH3027 the cityH5892 with a veryH3966 greatH1419 discomfiture: and he smoteH5221 the menH376 of the cityH5892, both smallH6996 and greatH1419, and tumours brake outH3027 uponH1961 them. 10SoH7971 they sentH7971 the arkH727 of GodH430 to EkronH6138. And it cameH935 to passH935, as the arkH727 of GodH430 cameH935 to EkronH6138, that the EkronitesH6139 criedH2199 outH7971, sayingH559, They have broughtH935 aboutH1961 the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 to usH413, to slayH4191 usH413 and our peopleH5971. 11They sentH7971 therefore and gatheredH622 togetherH622 allH3605 the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430, and they saidH559, SendH7971 awayH7971 the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, and letH7971 it goH7971 againH7725 to itsH3605 ownH1961 placeH4725, that it slayH4191 usH7725 notH3808, and our peopleH5971: for there was a deadlyH4194 discomfiture throughoutH3605 allH3605 the cityH5892, the handH3027 of GodH430 was veryH3966 heavyH3513 there. 12And the menH376 that diedH4191 notH3808 were smittenH5221 with the tumours: and the cryH7775 of the cityH5892 wentH5927 upH5927 to heavenH8064.
