1 Samuel 10
Revised Version 1895
1Then SamuelH8050 tookH3947 the vial of oilH8081, and pouredH3332 it uponH5921 his headH7218, and kissedH5401 him, and saidH559, Is it notH3808 that the LORDH3068 hath anointedH4886 thee to be princeH5057 over his inheritanceH5159? 2When thou art departedH1980 from meH413 todayH3117, then thou shalt findH4672 twoH8147 menH376 by Rachel’sH7354 sepulchre, in the borderH1366 of BenjaminH1144 at ZelzahH6766; and they will sayH559 unto thee, The asses whichH834 thou wentest to seekH1245 are foundH4672: and, loH2009, thy fatherH1 hath leftH1980 the care of the asses, and taketh thoughtH559 for youH834, sayingH559, WhatH4100 shall I doH6213 for my sonH1121? 3Then shalt thou goH935 on forwardH935 from thence, and thou shalt comeH935 to the oakH436 of TaborH8396, and there shall meetH4672 thee there threeH7969 menH376 goingH935 upH5927 to GodH430 to Beth-el, one carryingH5375 threeH7969 kids, and anotherH259 carryingH5375 threeH7969 loavesH3899 of breadH3899, and anotherH259 carryingH5375 a bottle of wineH3196: 4and they will salute thee, and giveH5414 thee twoH8147 loavesH3899 of breadH3899; whichH3899 thou shalt receiveH3947 of their handH3027. 5AfterH310 that thou shalt comeH935 to the hillH1389 of GodH430, whereH834 is the garrisonH5333 of the PhilistinesH6430: and it shall comeH935 to passH935, when thou art comeH935 thither to the cityH5892, that thou shalt meetH6440 a band of prophetsH5030 comingH935 downH3381 from the highH1116 placeH1116 with a psaltery, and a timbrelH8596, and a pipe, and a harpH3658, beforeH6440 them; and they shall be prophesyingH5012: 6and the spiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 will comeH2015 mightily uponH5921 thee, and thou shalt prophesyH5012 with them, and shalt be turnedH2015 intoH5921 anotherH312 manH376. 7And letH1961 it be, when theseH428 signsH226 are comeH935 unto thee, that thou doH6213 as occasionH3027 serveH1961 thee; for GodH430 is with thee. 8And thou shalt goH935 downH3381 beforeH6440 meH413 to GilgalH1537; and, beholdH2009, I will comeH935 downH3381 unto thee, to offerH5927 burntH5930 offeringsH8002, and to sacrificeH2077 sacrificesH2077 of peaceH8002 offeringsH8002: sevenH7651 daysH3117 shalt thou tarry, tillH5704 I comeH935 unto thee, and shew thee whatH834 thou shalt doH6213. 9And it was soH1961, that when he had turnedH6437 his backH6437 to goH935 from SamuelH8050, GodH430 gaveH1961 him anotherH312 heartH3820: and allH3605 thoseH428 signsH226 cameH935 to passH935 that dayH3117. 10And when they cameH935 thither to the hillH1389, beholdH2009, a band of prophetsH5030 metH7122 him; and the spiritH7307 of GodH430 cameH935 mightily uponH5921 him, and he prophesiedH5012 among them. 11And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when allH3605 that knewH3045 him beforetime sawH7200 that, beholdH2009, he prophesiedH5012 with the prophetsH5030, then the peopleH5971 saidH559 one to anotherH7453, WhatH4100 is this that is comeH1961 unto the sonH1121 of KishH7027? Is SaulH7586 also among the prophetsH5030? 12And one of the sameH3651 placeH1961 answeredH559 and saidH559, And who is their fatherH1? Therefore it becameH1961 a proverbH4912, Is SaulH7586 also among the prophetsH5030? 13And when he had made an endH3615 of prophesyingH5012, he cameH935 to the highH1116 placeH1116. 14And Saul’sH7586 uncleH1730 saidH559 unto him and to his servantH5288, Whither wentH1980 ye? And he saidH559, To seekH1245 the asses: and when weH3588 sawH7200 that they were notH369 foundH369, weH3588 cameH935 to SamuelH8050. 15And Saul’sH7586 uncleH1730 saidH559, TellH5046 meH4994, I prayH4994 thee, whatH4100 SamuelH8050 saidH559 unto youH5046. 16And SaulH7586 saidH559 unto his uncleH1730, He toldH5046 usH413 plainlyH559 that the asses were foundH4672. But concerning the matterH1697 of the kingdomH4410, whereof SamuelH8050 spake, he toldH5046 him notH3808. 17And SamuelH8050 calledH6817 the peopleH5971 togetherH6817 unto the LORDH3068 to MizpahH4709; 18and he saidH559 unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, I broughtH5927 upH5927 IsraelH3478 outH413 of EgyptH4714, and I deliveredH5337 youH3605 outH413 of the handH3027 of the EgyptiansH4714, and outH413 of the handH3027 of allH3605 the kingdomsH4467 that oppressedH3905 youH3605: 19but ye have this dayH3117 rejectedH3988 your GodH430, who himselfH1931 saveth youH859 outH6440 of allH3605 your calamitiesH6869 and your distresses; and ye have saidH559 unto him, Nay, but setH7760 a kingH4428 over usH5921. NowH6258 therefore presentH3320 yourselves beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 by your tribesH7626, and by your thousandsH505. 20SoH7126 SamuelH8050 broughtH7126 allH3605 the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 nearH7126, and the tribeH7626 of BenjaminH1144 was takenH3920. 21And he broughtH7126 the tribeH7626 of BenjaminH1144 nearH7126 by their familiesH4940, and the familyH4940 of the Matrites was takenH3920: and SaulH7586 the sonH1121 of KishH7027 was takenH3920; but when they soughtH1245 him, he could notH3808 be foundH4672. 22Therefore they askedH7592 of the LORDH3068 furtherH5750, Is there yet a manH376 to comeH935 hither? And the LORDH3068 answeredH559, BeholdH2009, he hath hidH2244 himselfH1931 among the stuff. 23And they ranH7323 and fetched him thence; and when he stoodH3320 among the peopleH5971, he was higherH4605 thanH3605 anyH3605 of the peopleH5971 from his shouldersH7926 and upwardH4605. 24And SamuelH8050 saidH559 to allH3605 the peopleH5971, SeeH7200 ye him whomH834 the LORDH3068 hath chosenH977, that there is noneH369 like him among allH3605 the peopleH5971? And allH3605 the peopleH5971 shoutedH7321, and saidH559, GodH3068 save the kingH4428. 25Then SamuelH8050 toldH1696 the peopleH5971 the mannerH4941 of the kingdomH4410, and wroteH3789 it in a bookH5612, and laidH7971 it upH853 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. And SamuelH8050 sentH7971 allH3605 the peopleH5971 awayH7971, everyH3605 manH376 to his houseH1004. 26And SaulH7586 also wentH1980 to his houseH1004 to GibeahH1390; and there wentH1980 with him the host, whoseH834 heartsH3820 GodH430 had touchedH5060. 27But certain sonsH1121 of Belial saidH559, HowH4100 shall this manH1121 saveH3467 usH935? And they despisedH959 him, and broughtH935 him noH3808 presentH4503. But he heldH1961 his peace.
