Leviticus 25
The Sabbatical Year and Year of Jubilee
1The LordH3068 then spokeH1696 to MosesH4872 on MountH2022 SinaiH5514, sayingH559, 2“SpeakH1696 to the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 and sayH559 to them, ‘WhenH3588 you comeH935 into the landH776 whichH834 I am going to giveH5414 you, then the landH776 shall haveH7673 a SabbathH7676 to the LordH3068. 3For 1sixH8337 yearsH8141 you shall sowH2232 your fieldH7704, and for sixH8337 yearsH8141 you shall pruneH2168 your vineyardH3754 and gatherH622 inH622 its produceH8393, 4but during 2the seventhH7637 yearH8141 the landH776 shall haveH1961 a SabbathH7676 restH7677, a SabbathH7676 to the LordH3068; you shall not sowH2232 your fieldH7704 norH3808 pruneH2168 your vineyardH3754. 5You shall not reapH7114 your harvest’sH7105 3aftergrowthH5599, and you shall not gatherH1219 your grapesH6025 of untrimmedH5139 vinesH5139; the landH776 shall haveH1961 a sabbaticalH7677 yearH8141. 64All of you shall haveH1961 the SabbathH7676 produce of the landH776 as foodH402; for yourself, your maleH5650 and femaleH519 slavesH519H5650, and your hiredH7916 workerH7916 and your foreignH8453 residentH8453, those who liveH1481 asH1481 strangersH1481 among you. 7Even your cattleH929 and the animalsH2421 that are in your landH776 shall haveH1961 allH3605 its produceH8393 to eatH398.
8‘You are also to countH5608 off sevenH7651 SabbathsH7676 of yearsH8141 for yourself, sevenH7651 timesH6471 sevenH7651 yearsH8141, so that you haveH1961 the timeH3117 of the sevenH7651 SabbathsH7676 of yearsH8141, that is, forty-nineH705H8672 yearsH8141. 9You shall then soundH5674 a ram’sH7782 hornH7782 5abroadH8643 on 6the tenthH6218 day of the seventhH7637 monthH2320; on the DayH3117 of AtonementH3725 you shall soundH5674 a hornH7782 allH3605 through your landH776. 10So you shall consecrateH6942 the fiftiethH2572 yearH8141 and 7proclaimH7121 8a releaseH1865 throughout the landH776 to allH3605 its inhabitantsH3427. It shall be a jubileeH3104 for you, 9and 10eachH376 of you shall returnH7725 to his own propertyH272, 11and eachH376 of you shall returnH7725 to his familyH4940. 11You shall haveH1961 the fiftiethH2572 yearH8141 as a jubileeH3104; you shall not sowH2232, norH3808 harvestH7114 its aftergrowthH5599, norH3808 gatherH1219 grapesH1219 from its untrimmedH5139 vinesH5139. 12For it is a jubileeH3104; it shall be holyH6944 to you. You shall eatH398 its produceH8393 from the fieldH7704.
13‘12On thisH2088 yearH8141 of jubileeH3104 eachH376 of you shall returnH7725 to his own propertyH272. 14Furthermore, ifH3588 you makeH4376 a saleH4465 to your friendH5997, orH176 buyH7069 from your friend’sH5997 handH3027, 13you shall not 14wrongH3238 oneH376 anotherH251. 15Corresponding to the numberH4557 of yearsH8141 afterH310 the jubileeH3104, you shall buyH7069 from your 15friendH5997; he is to sellH4376 to you according to the numberH4557 of yearsH8141 of cropsH8393. 1616In proportionH6310 to 17a greaterH7230 numberH7230 of yearsH8141 you shall increaseH7235 its priceH4736, and in proportionH6310 to 18fewerH4591 yearsH8141 you shall decreaseH4591 its priceH4736, because it is the numberH4557 of cropsH8393 that he is sellingH4376 to you. 17So 19you shall not 20wrongH3238 oneH376 anotherH5997, but you shall 21fearH3372 your GodH430; for I am the LordH3068 your GodH430.
18‘You shall therefore 22followH6213 My statutesH2708 and keepH8104 My judgmentsH4941 so as to carryH6213 them outH6213, so that 23you may liveH3427 securelyH983 on the landH776. 19Then the landH776 will yieldH5414 its produceH6529, so that you can eatH398 your fillH7648 and liveH3427 securelyH983 on it. 20But ifH3588 you sayH559, “24WhatH4100 are we going to eatH398 in the seventhH7637 yearH8141 ifH2005 we do not sowH2232 nor gatherH622 inH622 our produceH8393?” 21then 25I will so orderH6680 My blessingH1293 for you in the sixthH8345 yearH8141 that it will bringH6213 forthH6213 the produceH8393 for threeH7969 yearsH8141. 22When you are sowingH2232 the eighthH8066 yearH8141, you can still eatH398 26oldH3465 thingsH3465 from the produceH8393, eatingH398 the old untilH5704 the ninthH8671 yearH8141 whenH5704 its produceH8393 comesH935 inH935.
The Law of Redemption
23‘The landH776, moreover, shall not be soldH4376 permanentlyH6783, becauseH3588 27the landH776 is Mine; for 28you are only strangersH1616 and residentsH8453 with Me. 24So for everyH3605 29pieceH776 of your propertyH272, you are to provideH5414 for the redemptionH1353 of the landH776.
25‘30IfH3588 a fellowH251 countrymanH251 of yours becomesH4134 so poorH4134 that he sellsH4376 part of his propertyH272, then his closestH7138 31redeemerH1350 is to comeH935 and buyH1350 backH1350 whatH4465 his relativeH251 has soldH4465. 26Or inH3588 caseH3588 someoneH376 hasH1961 noH3808 redeemerH1350, but 32recoversH3027H5381 to findH4672 sufficientH1767 meansH1767 for its redemptionH1353, 2733then he shall calculateH2803 the yearsH8141 since its saleH4465 and refundH7725 the balanceH5736 to the manH376 to whomH834 he soldH4376 it, and so returnH7725 to his propertyH272. 28But ifH518 34he has not foundH4672 sufficientH1767 meansH3027 to getH7725 it backH7725 for himself, then whatH4465 he has soldH4465 shall remainH1961 in the handsH3027 of its purchaserH7069 untilH5704 the yearH8141 of jubileeH3104; but at the jubileeH3104 it shall 35revertH3318, so that 36he may returnH7725 to his propertyH272.
29‘Likewise, ifH3588 a manH376 sellsH4376 a dwellingH4186 houseH1004 in a walledH2346 cityH5892, then his redemptionH1353 rightH1353 remainsH1961 valid untilH5704 a fullH8552 yearH8141 afterH4480 its saleH4465; his rightH1353 ofH1353 redemptionH1353 lastsH1961 a fullH3117 yearH3117. 30But ifH518 it is not boughtH1350 backH1350 for him withinH5704 the spaceH4390 of a fullH8549 yearH8141, then the houseH1004 that is in the walledH2346 cityH5892 passesH6965 permanentlyH6783 to its purchaserH7069 throughout his generationsH1755; it does not 37revertH3318 in the jubileeH3104. 31The housesH1004 of the villagesH2691, however, whichH834 haveH369 noH369 surroundingH5439 wallH2346, shall be regardedH2803 38as openH776 fieldsH7704; they haveH1961 redemptionH1353 rightsH1353 and 39revertH3318 in the jubileeH3104. 32As for the 40citiesH5892 of the LevitesH3881, the LevitesH3881 haveH1961 a permanentH5769 rightH1353 ofH1353 redemptionH1353 for the housesH1004 of the citiesH5892 which are their possessionH272. 33WhatH834, therefore, 41belongsH4480 to the LevitesH3881 may be redeemedH1350, and a houseH1004 saleH4465 42in the cityH5892 of this possessionH272 43revertsH3318 in the jubileeH3104, becauseH3588 the housesH1004 of the citiesH5892 of the LevitesH3881 are their possessionH272 amongH8432 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478. 3444But pastureH4054 fieldsH7704 of their citiesH5892 shall not be soldH4376, for that is their permanentH5769 possessionH272.
Of Poor Countrymen
35‘45Now inH3588 caseH3588 a countrymanH251 of yours becomesH4134 poorH4134 and his 46meansH3027 amongH5973 you falterH4131, then you are to sustainH2388 him, like a strangerH1616 or a residentH8453, so that he may liveH2421 with you. 3647Do not takeH3947 48any kind of interestH5392H8636 from him, but 49fearH3372 your GodH430, so that your countrymanH251 may liveH2421 with you. 37You shall not giveH5414 him your silverH3701 at interestH5392, norH3808 your foodH400 50for profitH4768. 3851I am the LordH3068 your GodH430, whoH834 broughtH3318 you outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 to giveH5414 you the landH776 of CanaanH3667, and 52to be your GodH430.
39‘Now 53ifH3588 a countrymanH251 of yours becomesH4134 so poorH4134 withH5973 regardH5973 toH5973 you that he sellsH4376 himself to you, you shall not subjectH5647 him to a slave’sH5650 serviceH5656. 40He shall be with you as a hiredH7916 workerH7916, 54as if he were a foreignH8453 residentH8453; he shall serveH5647 with you up to the yearH8141 of jubileeH3104. 41He shall then leaveH3318 you, he and his sonsH1121 with him, and shall goH7725 backH7725 to his familyH4940, so that he may returnH7725 to the propertyH272 of his forefathersH1. 42For they are My servantsH5650 whomH834 I broughtH3318 outH3318 from the landH776 of EgyptH4714; they are not to be soldH4376 in a slaveH5650 saleH4466. 4355You shall not ruleH7287 over him with 56severityH6531, but are to revereH3372 your GodH430. 44As for your maleH5650 and femaleH519 slavesH519H5650 whomH834 you may haveH1961--you may acquireH7069 maleH5650 and femaleH519 slavesH519H5650 from the pagan nationsH1471 that are aroundH5439 you. 45You may alsoH1571 acquireH7069 them from the sonsH1121 of the foreignH8453 residentsH8453 who resideH1481 amongH5973 you, and from their familiesH4940 whoH834 are with you, whomH834 they will have producedH3205 in your landH776; they also may becomeH1961 your possessionH272. 46You may also passH5157 them onH5157 asH5157 anH5157 inheritanceH5157 to your sonsH1121 afterH310 you, to receiveH3423 as a possessionH272; you can useH5647 them asH5647 permanentH5769 slavesH5647. 57But in respect to your countrymenH251, the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478, you shall not ruleH7287 with 58severityH6531 over oneH376 anotherH251.
Of Redeeming a Person Who Is Poor
47‘Now ifH3588 the 59meansH3027 of a strangerH1616 or of a foreignH8453 residentH8453 with you becomesH5381 sufficientH5381, and a countrymanH251 of yours becomesH4134 poorH4134 inH5973 relationH5973 toH5973 him and sellsH4376 himself to a strangerH1616 whoH8453 isH8453 residingH8453 with you, orH176 to the descendantsH6133 of a stranger’sH1616 familyH4940, 48then he shall haveH1961 redemptionH1353 rightH1353 afterH310 he has been soldH4376. OneH259 of his brothersH251 may redeemH1350 him, 49orH176 his uncleH1730, orH176 his uncle’sH1730 sonH1121 may redeemH1350 him, orH176 one of his bloodH7607 relativesH7607H1320 from his familyH4940 may redeemH1350 him; orH176 6061if he prospersH5381, he may redeemH1350 himself. 50He then, with his purchaserH7069, shall calculateH2803 from the yearH8141 when he soldH4376 himself to him up to the yearH8141 of jubileeH3104; and the priceH3701 of his saleH4465 shall correspondH1961 to the numberH4557 of yearsH8141 calculated. It is like the daysH3117 of a hiredH7916 workerH7916 that he will be with him. 51IfH518 there are stillH5750 manyH7227 yearsH8141 remaining, 62he shall refundH7725 part of his purchaseH4736 priceH3701 in proportionH6310 to them for his own redemptionH1353; 52but ifH518 fewH4592 yearsH8141 remainH7604 untilH5704 the yearH8141 of jubileeH3104, he shall so calculateH2803 with him. In proportionH6310 to his yearsH8141 he is to refundH7725 the amount for his redemptionH1353. 53He shall be with him like a workerH7916 hiredH7916 yearH8141 by yearH8141; 63he shall not ruleH7287 over him with 64severityH6531 in your sightH5869. 54Even ifH518 he is not redeemedH1350 by 65theseH428 meansH428, 66he shall still leaveH3318 in the yearH8141 of jubileeH3104, he and his sonsH1121 with him. 55For the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 are My servantsH5650; they are My servantsH5650 whomH834 I broughtH3318 outH3318 from the landH776 of EgyptH4714. I am the LordH3068 your GodH430.
