Exodus 1:11-22
11So they appointedH7760 1taskmastersH8269H4522 overH5921 them to oppressH6031 them with 23hardH5450 laborH5450. And they builtH1129 for PharaohH6547 4storageH4543 citiesH5892, PithomH6619 and 5RaamsesH7486. 12But the moreH3512 they oppressedH6031 them, 6the moreH3651 they multipliedH7235 and the moreH3651 they 7spreadH6555 outH6555, so that they dreadedH6973 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478. 13The EgyptiansH4714 8used violenceH6531 to compel the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 9to laborH5647; 14and they madeH4843 10their livesH2425 bitterH4843 with hardH7186 laborH5656 in mortarH2563 and bricksH3843 and at allH3605 kinds of laborH5656 in the fieldH7704, allH3605 their laborsH5656 whichH834 they violentlyH6531 had them performH5647 asH5647 slavesH5647.
15Then the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 spokeH559 to the HebrewH5680 midwivesH3205, oneH259 of whomH834 11was namedH8034 ShiphrahH8236, and the otherH8145 12was namedH8034 PuahH6326; 16and he saidH559, “When you are helping the HebrewH5680 womenH5680 to giveH3205 birthH3205 and seeH7200 them upon the birthstoolH70, 13ifH518 it is a sonH1121, then you shall putH4191 him toH4191 deathH4191; but ifH518 it is a daughterH1323, then she shall liveH2421.” 17But the midwivesH3205 1415fearedH3372 GodH430, and 16did not doH6213 as the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 had 17commandedH1696 them, but let the boysH3206 liveH2421. 18So the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 calledH7121 for the midwivesH3205 and saidH559 to them, “WhyH4069 have you doneH6213 thisH2088 thingH1697, and let the boysH3206 liveH2421?” 19The midwivesH3205 saidH559 to PharaohH6547, “BecauseH3588 the HebrewH5680 womenH5680 are not like the EgyptianH4713 womenH802; for they are vigorousH2422 and giveH3205 birthH3205 beforeH2962 the midwifeH3205 18canH935 getH935 to them.” 20So 19GodH430 wasH3190 goodH3190 to the midwivesH3205, and 20the peopleH5971 multipliedH7235, and becameH6105 veryH3966 21mightyH6105. 21And becauseH3588 the midwivesH3205 2223fearedH3372 GodH430, He 2425establishedH6213 26householdsH1004 for them. 22Then PharaohH6547 commandedH6680 allH3605 his peopleH5971, sayingH559, “27EveryH3605 sonH1121 who is bornH3209, 28you are to throwH7993 into 29the NileH2975, but everyH3605 daughterH1323, you are to keepH2421 aliveH2421.”
