Daniel 2

The King’s Dream

1Now in the secondH8147 yearH8141 of the reignH4438 of NebuchadnezzarH5019, NebuchadnezzarH5019 12hadH2492 dreamsH2472; and his spiritH7307 was troubledH6470 and his 3sleepH8142 4leftH1961 him. 2Then the kingH4428 5gaveH559 ordersH559 to callH7121 in the 6soothsayerH2748 priestsH2748, the conjurersH825, the sorcerersH3784, and the 7ChaldeansH3778, to 8tellH5046 the kingH4428 his dreamsH2472. So they cameH935 inH935 and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 the kingH4428. 3The kingH4428 saidH559 to them, “I 910hadH2492 a dreamH2472, and my spiritH7307 11is anxiousH6470 to 12understandH3045 the dreamH2472.”

4Then the ChaldeansH3778 spokeH1696 to the kingH4428 in 1314AramaicH762: “15O kingH4430, liveH2418 foreverH5957! 16TellH560 the dreamH2493 to your servantsH5649, and we will declareH2331 the interpretationH6591.” 5The kingH4430 repliedH6032 to the ChaldeansH3779, “The commandH4406 17from me is firmH230: ifH2006 you do not makeH3046 knownH3046 to me the dreamH2493 and its interpretationH6591, you will be 1819tornH5648 limbH1917 from limb and your housesH1005 will be turnedH7761 into a rubbishH5122 heapH5122. 6But ifH2006 you declareH2331 the dreamH2493 and its interpretationH6591, you will receiveH6902 from me 20giftsH4978 and a rewardH5023 and greatH7690 honorH3367; thereforeH3861 declareH2331 to me the dreamH2493 and its interpretationH6591.” 7They answeredH6032 a secondH8579 timeH8579 and saidH560, “Let the kingH4430 21tellH560 the dreamH2493 to his servantsH5649, and we will declareH2331 the interpretationH6591.” 8The kingH4430 repliedH6032, “I knowH3046 for certainH3330 that you are tryingH2084 toH2084 buyH2084 timeH5732, becauseH6903H1768 you have perceivedH2370 that the commandH4406 22from me is firmH230, 9that ifH2006 you do not makeH3046 the dreamH2493 knownH3046 to me, there is only 23oneH2298 24decreeH1882 for you. For you have agreedH2164 togetherH2164 to speakH560 lyingH3538 and corruptH7844 25wordsH4406 beforeH6925 me untilH5705H1768 the 26situationH5732 is changedH8133; thereforeH3861 tellH560 me the dreamH2493, so that I may 27knowH3046 that you can declareH2331 to me its interpretationH6591.” 10The ChaldeansH3779 answeredH6032 28the kingH4430 and saidH560, “ThereH383 isH383 noH3809 personH606 on earthH3007 whoH1768 couldH3202 declareH2331 the matterH4406 29to the kingH4430, becauseH6903H1768 noH3606H3809 greatH7229 kingH4430 or rulerH7990 has ever askedH7593 anythingH4406 like thisH1836 of anyH3606 30soothsayerH2749 priestH2749, sorcererH826, or ChaldeanH3779. 11Moreover, the thingH4406 whichH1768 the kingH4430 demandsH7593 is difficultH3358, and thereH383 isH383 noH3809 oneH321 elseH321 whoH1768 could declareH2331 it 31to the kingH4430 exceptH3861 32godsH426, whoseH1768 33dwellingH4070 placeH4094 is not with mortal fleshH1321.”

12BecauseH6903 of thisH1836, the kingH4430 becameH1149 34angryH1149 and extremelyH7690 furiousH7108, and he gaveH560 ordersH560 to killH7 allH3606 the wiseH2445 menH2445 of BabylonH895. 13So the 35decreeH1882 was issuedH5312 that the wiseH2445 menH2445 be killedH6992; and they lookedH1156 forH1156 36DanielH1841 and his friendsH2269, to 37killH6992 them.

14ThenH116 DanielH1841 repliedH8421 with discretionH5843 and discernmentH2942 to 38AriochH746, the captainH7229 of the king’sH4430 39bodyguardH2877, whoH1768 had goneH5312 outH5312 to killH6992 the wiseH2445 menH2445 of BabylonH895; 15he saidH560 to AriochH746, the king’sH4430 officerH7990, “For whatH4101 reasonH5922H4101 is the decreeH1882 from the kingH4430 so harshH2685?” ThenH116 AriochH746 informedH3046 DanielH1841 of the matterH4406. 16So DanielH1841 wentH5954 inH5954 and requestedH1156 of the kingH4430 that he would giveH5415 him a graceH2166 periodH2166, so that he might declareH2331 the interpretationH6591 to the kingH4430.

17ThenH116 DanielH1841 wentH236 to his houseH1005 and informedH3046 his friendsH2269, 40HananiahH2608, MishaelH4331 and AzariahH5839, about the matterH4406, 18so that they might 41requestH1156 compassionH7359 from the GodH426 of heavenH8065 concerningH5922 thisH1836 secretH7328, soH1768 thatH1768 DanielH1841 and his friendsH2269 would not be 42killedH7 with the restH7606 of the wiseH2445 menH2445 of BabylonH895.

The Secret Is Revealed to Daniel

19ThenH116 the secretH7328 was revealedH1541 to DanielH1841 in a nightH3916 43visionH2376. ThenH116 DanielH1841 blessedH1289 the GodH426 of heavenH8065; 20DanielH1841 saidH560, “May the nameH8036 of GodH426 be 44blessedH1289 foreverH5957 and everH5957, For 45wisdomH2452 and powerH1370 belong to Him.21It is He who 46changesH8133 the timesH5732 and the periodsH2166; He 47removesH5709 kingsH4430 and appointsH6966 kingsH4430; He givesH3052 48wisdomH2452 to wiseH2445 menH2445, And knowledgeH4486 to 49people of understandingH999.22It is He who 50revealsH1541 the profoundH5994 and hiddenH5642 thingsH5642; 51He knowsH3046 whatH4101 is in the darknessH2816, And the 52lightH5094 dwellsH8271 with Him.23To You, 53GodH426 of my fathersH2, I giveH3029 thanksH3029 and praiseH7624, For You have givenH3052 me 54wisdomH2452 and powerH1370; Even nowH3705 You have madeH3046 knownH3046 to me whatH1768 we 55requestedH1156 of You, For You have madeH3046 knownH3046 to us the king’sH4430 matterH4406.”

24ThereuponH6903H1836, DanielH1841 wentH5954 to AriochH746, whomH1768 the kingH4430 had appointedH4483 to killH7 the wiseH2445 menH2445 of BabylonH895; he wentH236 and saidH560 thisH3652 to him: “56Do not killH7 the wiseH2445 menH2445 of BabylonH895! TakeH5954 me 57into the king’sH4430 presenceH6925, and I will declareH2331 the interpretationH6591 to the kingH4430.”

25ThenH116 AriochH746 hurriedlyH927 58broughtH5954 DanielH1841 59into the king’sH4430 presenceH6925 and spokeH560 to him asH3652 followsH3652: “I have foundH7912 a manH1400 amongH4481 the 6061exilesH1123H1547 from JudahH3061 whoH1768 can makeH3046 the interpretationH6591 knownH3046 to the kingH4430!” 26The kingH4430 saidH560 to DanielH1841, whoseH1768 nameH8036 was 62BelteshazzarH1096, “Are you ableH3546 to makeH3046 knownH3046 to me the dreamH2493 whichH1768 I have seenH2370 and its interpretationH6591?” 27DanielH1841 answeredH6032 beforeH6925 the kingH4430 and saidH560, “As for the secretH7328 about whichH1768 the kingH4430 has inquiredH7593, neitherH3809 63wiseH2445 menH2445, sorcerersH826, soothsayerH2749 priestsH2749, nor divinersH1505 are ableH3202 to declareH2331 it to the kingH4430. 28HoweverH1297, thereH383 isH383 a 64GodH426 in heavenH8065 whoH1768 revealsH1541 secretsH7328, and He has madeH3046 knownH3046 to KingH4430 NebuchadnezzarH5020 whatH4101 will takeH1934 placeH1934 in the 6566latterH320 daysH3118. ThisH1836 was your dreamH2493 and the 67visionsH2376 68in your mindH7217 while on your bedH4903. 29As for you, O kingH4430, while on your bedH4903 your thoughtsH7476 69turnedH5559 to whatH4101 would takeH1934 placeH1934 70in the futureH311; and 71He who revealsH1541 secretsH7328 has madeH3046 knownH3046 to you whatH4101 will takeH1934 placeH1934. 30But as for me, thisH1836 secretH7328 has not been revealedH1541 to me 72for any 73wisdomH2452 74residingH383 in me moreH4481 thanH4481 in anyH3606 other livingH2417 personH2417, but for the purposeH1701 of makingH3046 the interpretationH6591 knownH3046 to the kingH4430, and that you may understandH3046 the 75thoughtsH7476 of your 76mindH3825.

The King’s Dream

31“You, O kingH4430, were watchingH2370 and beholdH431, there was a singleH2298 greatH7690 statueH6755; that statueH6755, which was largeH7229 and 77of extraordinaryH3493 radianceH2122, was standingH6966 in frontH6903 of you, and its appearanceH7299 was 7879awesomeH1763. 32The 80headH7217 of that statueH6755 was made of fineH2869 goldH1722, its chestH2306 and its armsH1872 of silverH3702, its bellyH4577 and its thighsH3410 of bronzeH5174, 33its legsH8243 of ironH6523, and its feetH7271 partlyH4481 of ironH6523 and partlyH4481 of clayH2635. 34You 81continuedH1934 watchingH2370 untilH5705H1768 a 82stoneH69 was brokenH1505 off 83withoutH3809 handsH3028, and it struckH4223 the statueH6755 on its feetH7271 of ironH6523 and clayH2635, and 84crushedH1855 them. 35ThenH116 the ironH6523, the clayH2635, the bronzeH5174, the silverH3702, and the goldH1722 were crushedH1855 toH1855 piecesH1855 85allH3606 at the sameH2298 timeH2298, and they were 86like chaffH5784 from the summerH7007 threshingH147 floorsH147; and the windH7308 carriedH5376 them away so that 87not a traceH870 of them was foundH7912. But the stoneH69 that struckH4223 the statueH6755 becameH1934 a greatH7229 88mountainH2906 and filledH4391 the entireH3606 earthH772.

The Interpretation--Babylon the First Kingdom

36“ThisH1836 was the dreamH2493; and now we will tellH560 89its interpretationH6591 beforeH6925 the kingH4430. 37You, O kingH4430, are the 90kingH4430 of kingsH4430, to whomH1768 the GodH426 of heavenH8065 has givenH3052 the 91kingdomH4437, the 92powerH2632, the strengthH8632, and the honorH3367; 38and whereverH3606H1768 the sonsH1123 of mankindH606 liveH1753, or the 93animalsH2423 of the fieldH1251, or the birdsH5776 of the skyH8065, He has handedH3052H3028 them overH3052 to you and has made you rulerH7981 over them allH3606. You are the headH7217 of goldH1722.

Medo-Persia and Greece

39And afterH870 you anotherH321 kingdomH4437 will ariseH6966 inferiorH772 to you, then anotherH321 thirdH8523 kingdomH4437 of bronzeH5174, whichH1768 will ruleH7981 over allH3606 the earthH772.

Rome

40Then there will be a 94fourthH7244 kingdomH4437 as strongH8624 as ironH6523; justH6903H1768 as ironH6523 smashesH1855 and crushesH2827 everythingH3606, so, like ironH6523 that crushesH7490, it will smashH1855 and crushH7490 allH3606 theseH459 things. 41And in that you sawH2370 the feetH7271 and toesH677, partlyH4481 of potter’sH6353 clayH2635 and partlyH4481 of ironH6523, it will be a dividedH6386 kingdomH4437; but it will haveH1934 within it someH4481 of the toughnessH5326 of ironH6523, sinceH6903H1768 you sawH2370 the ironH6523 mixedH6151 with 95commonH2917 clayH2635. 42And just as the toesH677 of the feetH7271 were partlyH4481 of ironH6523 and partlyH4481 of potteryH2635, so someH4481H7118 of the kingdomH4437 will be strongH8624, and partH4481 of it will be fragileH8406. 43In that you sawH2370 the ironH6523 mixedH6151 with 96commonH2917 clayH2635, they will combineH6151 with one another 97in 98their descendantsH2234; but they will not adhereH1693 to oneH1836H5974 anotherH1836H5974, justH1888 as ironH6523 does not combineH6151 with potteryH2635.

The Divine Kingdom

44And in the daysH3118 of thoseH581 kingsH4430 the 99GodH426 of heavenH8065 will 100setH6966 upH6966 a 101kingdomH4437 whichH1768 will neverH5957H3809 be destroyedH2255, and that kingdomH4437 will not beH7662 102leftH7662 for anotherH312 peopleH5972; it will 103crushH1855 and putH5487 anH5487 endH5487 toH5487 allH3606 theseH459 kingdomsH4437, but it will itselfH1932 endureH6966 foreverH5957. 45JustH6903H1768 as you sawH2370 that a 104stoneH69 was brokenH1505 off from the mountainH2906 withoutH3809 handsH3028, and that it crushedH1855 the ironH6523, the bronzeH5174, the clayH2635, the silverH3702, and the goldH1722, the 105greatH7229 GodH426 has madeH3046 knownH3046 to the kingH4430 whatH4101 106will takeH1934 placeH1934 107in the futureH311; so the dreamH2493 is certainH3330 and its interpretationH6591 is trustworthyH540.”

Daniel Promoted

46ThenH116 KingH4430 NebuchadnezzarH5020 fellH5308 on his faceH600 and paidH5457 108humbleH5457 respectH5457 to DanielH1841, and gaveH560 ordersH560 to presentH5260 to him an offeringH4504 and 109incenseH5208. 47The kingH4430 respondedH6032 to DanielH1841 and saidH560, “110Your GodH426 trulyH4481H7187H1768 is a 111GodH426 of godsH426 and a LordH4756 of kingsH4430 and a 112revealerH1541 of secretsH7328, sinceH1768 you have beenH3202 ableH3202 to revealH1541 thisH1836 secretH7328.” 48ThenH116 the kingH4430 113114promotedH7236 DanielH1841 and gaveH3052 him manyH7690 greatH7229 giftsH4978, and he madeH7981 him rulerH7981 overH5922 the entireH3606 115provinceH4083 of BabylonH895, and chiefH7229 116prefectH5460 overH5922 allH3606 the wiseH2445 menH2445 of BabylonH895. 49And DanielH1841 madeH1156 aH1156 requestH1156 of the kingH4430, and he 117appointedH4483 118ShadrachH7715, MeshachH4336, and Abed-negoH5665 overH5922 the administrationH5673 of the provinceH4083 of BabylonH895, while DanielH1841 was at the king’sH4430 119120courtH8651.
