2 Kings 3:1-19
1Now JehoramH3088 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 becameH4427 kingH4427 overH5921 IsraelH3478 at SamariaH8111 1in the eighteenthH8083H6240 yearH8141 of JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and he reignedH4427 for twelveH8147H6240 yearsH8141. 2He didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068, thoughH7534 not like his fatherH1 and his motherH517; for 2he removedH5493 the memorialH4676 stoneH4676 of BaalH1168 3whichH834 his fatherH1 had madeH6213. 3NeverthelessH7534, 4he clungH1692 to the sinsH2403 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, into 5whichH834 he misledH2398 IsraelH3478; he did not abandonH5493 them.
4Now MeshaH4338 the kingH4428 of MoabH4124 was a sheepH5349 breederH5349, and he 6used to makeH7725 tribute paymentsH7725 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 of a hundredH3967 thousandH505 lambsH3733, and the woolH6785 of a hundredH3967 thousandH505 ramsH352. 5However, 7when King AhabH256 diedH4194, the kingH4428 of MoabH4124 brokeH6586 withH6586 the 8kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 6So KingH4428 JehoramH3088 leftH3318 SamariaH8111 for battle 9at that timeH3117 and musteredH6485 allH3605 IsraelH3478. 7Then he wentH1980 and sentH7971 word to JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, sayingH559, “The kingH4428 of MoabH4124 has brokenH6586 awayH6586 fromH6586 me. Will you goH1980 with me to fightH4421 againstH413 MoabH4124?” And he saidH559, “I will goH5927 upH5927. 1011Consider me yours, my peopleH5971 as your peopleH5971, my horsesH5483 as your horsesH5483.” 8Then he saidH559, “WhichH335H2088 wayH1870 shall we goH5927 upH5927?” And he 12answeredH559, “The wayH1870 of the wildernessH4057 of EdomH112.”
9So 13the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 wentH1980 with 14the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 and 15the kingH4428 of EdomH112, and they madeH5437 aH5437 circuitH5437 of sevenH7651 days’H3117 journeyH1870. But there was noH3808 waterH4325 for the armyH4264 or for the cattleH929 that 16followedH7272 them. 10Then the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559, “It is hopelessH162! For the LordH3068 has calledH7121 theseH428 threeH7969 kingsH4428 to handH5414H3027 them overH5414 to MoabH4124!” 11But JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, “17IsH369 thereH369 noH369 prophetH5030 of the LordH3068 hereH6311, that we may inquireH1875 of the LordH3068 by him?” And oneH259 of the kingH4428 of Israel’sH3478 servantsH5650 answeredH6030 and saidH559, “18ElishaH477 the sonH1121 of ShaphatH8202 is hereH6311, 19whoH834 used to pourH3332 waterH4325 on the handsH3027 of ElijahH452.” 12And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, “The wordH1697 of the LordH3068 is with him.” So the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 and the kingH4428 of EdomH112 wentH3381 downH3381 to him.
13Now ElishaH477 saidH559 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, “20WhatH4100 business do you have with me? 21GoH1980 to your father’sH1 prophetsH5030 and your mother’sH517 prophetsH5030.” But the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 to him, “NoH408, for the LordH3068 has calledH7121 theseH428 threeH7969 kingsH4428 together to handH5414H3027 them overH5414 to MoabH4124.” 14ElishaH477 saidH559, “22As surely as the LordH3068 of armiesH6635 livesH2416, beforeH6440 whomH834 I standH5975, if I did not respectH5375H6440 JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, I would not lookH5027 at you norH518 seeH7200 you. 15But nowH6258 23bringH3947 me a 24musicianH5059.” And it cameH1961 aboutH1961, when the 25musicianH5059 playedH5059, that 26the handH3027 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 upon him. 16And he saidH559, “ThisH3541 isH3541 whatH3541 the LordH3068 saysH559: ‘MakeH6213 thisH2088 valleyH5158 27fullH1356 of trenchesH1356.’ 17For the LordH3068 saysH559 thisH3541: ‘You will not seeH7200 windH7307, norH3808 will you seeH7200 rainH1653; yet that valleyH5158 28shall be filledH4390 with waterH4325, so that you will drinkH8354, you, your livestockH4735, and your other animalsH929. 18And thisH2088 isH7043 anH7043 29insignificantH7043 thingH7043 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068; He will also giveH5414 the MoabitesH4124 into your handH3027. 1930Then you shall strikeH5221 everyH3605 fortifiedH4013 cityH5892 and everyH3605 choiceH4004 cityH5892, and 31cutH5307 downH5307 everyH3605 goodH2896 treeH6086 and stopH5640 upH5640 allH3605 the springsH4599 of waterH4325, and spoilH3510 everyH3605 goodH2896 plotH2513 ofH2513 landH2513 with stonesH68.’”
